如是我聞。一時佛在舍衛城祇樹給孤獨園。與大比丘眾千二百五十人俱。復有無量百千菩薩眾。復有無量天人眾等。所謂大梵天王帝釋天王。四大天王。所謂提頭賴吒天王毗婁勒叉天王。毗婁博叉天王毗沙門天王。功德大天為首等。有八萬四千諸天眾。那耶耶大將為首。八部鬼神大將。復有五百鬼子母及諸眷屬。如是等無量天人世眾左右圍繞。爾時去此佛剎百千億佛剎過已。東方有一佛剎名無邊華世界。彼世界中有一佛。名最勝燈如來多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀。現在逍遙說法。彼如來於彼世界遣二菩薩。來此娑婆世界。一名大光菩薩二名甘露光菩薩言。汝等二菩薩往向娑婆世界。彼有一佛名釋迦牟尼多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀。為彼釋迦牟尼多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀。將此陀羅尼章句說。為諸眾生故安樂故。功德故增益故。名聞故生力故。隨所意行故受安樂故。不擾亂故不殺眾生故擁護故。而說咒曰。

【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Tathāgata King of the Most Excellent Lamp of the East, One Scroll

Translated by Jnanagupta (阇那崛多), a Tripitaka master from India during the Sui Dynasty, and others

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove (Jetavana) in Śrāvastī (舍衛城), in the Garden of Anāthapindika (祇樹給孤獨園), together with a gathering of twelve hundred and fifty great Bhikshus. There were also immeasurable hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas, and immeasurable hosts of Devas and humans, including Mahābrahmā (大梵天王), Śakra devānām Indra (帝釋天王), the Four Great Kings, namely Dhṛtarāṣṭra (提頭賴吒天王), Virūḍhaka (毗婁勒叉天王), Virūpākṣa (毗婁博叉天王), and Vaiśravaṇa (毗沙門天王), as well as eighty-four thousand Devas with the Great Deva of Merit as their leader, the eight classes of great Yaksha generals with Nayaya as their leader, and five hundred Hāritīs (鬼子母) with their retinues. Thus, immeasurable hosts of Devas, humans, and worldly beings surrounded him on all sides.

At that time, beyond hundreds of thousands of billions of Buddha-lands from this Buddha-land, in the east, there was a Buddha-land named the World of Boundless Flowers. In that world, there was a Buddha named Ratna-śikhin tathāgata arhat samyak-saṃbuddha (最勝燈如來多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀), who was now freely expounding the Dharma. That Tathāgata sent two Bodhisattvas to this Sahā world (娑婆世界). One was named Great Light Bodhisattva, and the other was named Ambrosia Light Bodhisattva, saying: 『You two Bodhisattvas, go to the Sahā world, where there is a Buddha named Śākyamuni tathāgata arhat samyak-saṃbuddha (釋迦牟尼多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀). For that Śākyamuni tathāgata arhat samyak-saṃbuddha, take this Dharani chapter and verse, for the sake of all sentient beings, for the sake of peace and happiness, for the sake of merit, for the sake of increase, for the sake of fame, for the sake of generating strength, for the sake of following one's own will, for the sake of receiving peace and happiness, for the sake of non-disturbance, for the sake of not killing sentient beings, and for the sake of protection.』 And then he spoke the mantra:

爾時彼二菩薩受持此陀羅尼已。譬如壯士屈伸臂頃。如是如是菩薩沒身從彼無邊華世界。至舍衛城祇樹給孤獨園中。現時菩薩至釋迦牟尼多他阿迦度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀邊。到已頂禮佛足。圍繞三匝即住一面。住已彼菩薩白佛言世尊。去此佛剎過八千億佛剎。東方有一世界名無邊華。彼世界中有一佛。名最勝燈多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀。現在逍遙為他說法。彼婆伽婆最勝燈如來多他阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀。遣我等至此娑婆世界。彼最勝燈佛問訊世尊。少病少惱起居輕利氣力安不。復作是言。世尊無有擾亂徒眾。或比丘眾比丘尼眾。優婆塞眾優婆夷眾。或有人或非人。或天或龍

At that time, the two Bodhisattvas, having received and upheld this Dharani, were as swift as a strong man bending and stretching his arm. Thus, thus, the Bodhisattvas disappeared from that Boundless Flower World and arrived at the Jetavana Anathapindika Garden in Shravasti. At that time, the Bodhisattvas arrived at the side of Shakyamuni Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha (Shakyamuni Thus Come One, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One). Having arrived, they prostrated at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him three times, and then stood to one side. Having stood, that Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, passing eight billion Buddha-lands to the east from this Buddha-land, there is a world called Boundless Flower. In that world, there is a Buddha named Supreme Lamp Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha (Supreme Lamp Thus Come One, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One), who is now freely expounding the Dharma for beings. That Bhagavan (World Honored One) Supreme Lamp Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha (Supreme Lamp Thus Come One, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One) sent us to this Saha world. That Supreme Lamp Buddha inquires after the World Honored One, wishing the World Honored One is free from illness and affliction, that your daily life is peaceful and easy, and that your strength is robust.' He further said: 'World Honored One, are your disciples at peace? Whether they are Bhikshu Sangha, Bhikshuni Sangha, Upasaka Sangha, Upasika Sangha, or humans or non-humans, devas or nagas, is there no disturbance?'


或夜叉羅剎。或大鬼將或鳩盤茶。或鳩盤神將或富單那。或毗舍阇或餓鬼或虛妄鬼。或蜈蚣或毒蛇。或蝮蝎或雜毒蟲等。或阿修羅羅睺羅伽。或娑乾陀鬼或痟渴鬼。或悶絕鬼或病鬼。或蠱道或死屍。或一日熱病二日三日四日熱病。或自餘種種所擾亂鬼病。不為擾亂也。而最勝燈如來遣我等。將此陀羅尼咒來。為諸眾生利益故為養育眾生故。為增長功德故增長威德故。增色故出名聞故。增力故隨意所受樂故。隨所受安樂故。不擾亂故為擁護故。而說前咒。

爾時世尊告長老阿難言。阿難汝受持此陀羅尼章句。受已為他解說宣通流佈。阿難佛出世難聞難值。此陀羅尼章句復甚難聞。若有善男子善女人。能受持此陀羅尼者。或讀或誦或為他說顯揚。彼人火不能燒刀仗不能傷。諸毒不能害縣官不能殺。梵天不恚。彼人七世恒知宿命。阿難此陀羅尼章句。過去七十七億諸佛所說。若有人譭謗此咒者。即時譭謗彼等諸佛。若有鬼神不敬重此咒者。或與我奪某甲威力者。或已咒奪不還者。彼鬼神頭破作七分。

爾時阿逸多菩薩。從座而起整衣服。偏袒右肩右膝著地。而白佛言世尊。我亦說陀羅尼章句。為眾生受利故。得增益故增功德故。增威力增色增名聞故。增力故隨行受樂故。隨所行受助樂故不擾亂故。不殺害故擁護

這時,世尊告訴長老阿難(Ananda,佛陀的十大弟子之一)說:『阿難,你受持此陀羅尼章句,受持后為他人解說,宣揚流通。阿難,佛出世很難遇到,此陀羅尼章句更加難以聽聞。如果有善男子善女人,能夠受持此陀羅尼,或者讀,或者誦,或者為他人解說顯揚,那人火不能燒,刀劍不能傷,各種毒物不能傷害,官府不能殺害,梵天(Brahma,印度教的創造之神)不會嗔怒。那人七世都能知道自己的宿命。阿難,此陀羅尼章句,是過去七十七億諸佛所說。如果有人譭謗此咒,即時就是譭謗那些諸佛。如果有鬼神不敬重此咒,或者與我爭奪某甲的威力,或者已經用咒奪取了卻不歸還,那鬼神的頭就會破裂成七份。』

這時,阿逸多菩薩(Ajita Bodhisattva,彌勒菩薩的別名)從座位上站起來,整理衣服,袒露右肩,右膝著地,對佛說:『世尊,我也要說陀羅尼章句,爲了眾生受益,爲了得到增益,增加功德,增加威力,增加光彩,增加名聲,增加力量,隨順修行享受快樂,隨所修行得到助力和快樂,不被擾亂,不被殺害,爲了擁護。』

【English Translation】 English version: Or Yaksha (a type of spirit) Rakshasa (a demon). Or a great demon general, or Kumbhanda (a guardian deity), or a Kumbhanda general, or Putana (a foul-smelling hungry ghost). Or Pisacha (a flesh-eating ghost) or a hungry ghost, or a false ghost. Or a centipede or a poisonous snake. Or a viper or various poisonous insects, etc. Or Asura (a demigod) Rahula (an obstruction). Or Sakandha ghost or a thirst ghost. Or a fainting ghost or a sick ghost. Or witchcraft or a corpse. Or a one-day fever, two-day, three-day, four-day fever. Or ghost sicknesses disturbed by various other things, will not be disturbed. Because the Most Victorious Lamp Tathagata sent us to bring this Dharani mantra, for the benefit of sentient beings, for nurturing sentient beings, for increasing merit, increasing power, increasing radiance, spreading fame, increasing strength, freely enjoying happiness, enjoying the happiness received, not being disturbed, for protection, and speaks the preceding mantra.

At that time, the World Honored One told Elder Ananda (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples): 'Ananda, you should uphold this Dharani chapter and verse, and after upholding it, explain it to others, propagate and circulate it. Ananda, it is difficult to encounter a Buddha appearing in the world, and this Dharani chapter and verse is even more difficult to hear. If there are good men and good women who can uphold this Dharani, whether they read it, recite it, or explain and proclaim it to others, that person will not be burned by fire, will not be harmed by swords, will not be harmed by various poisons, will not be killed by officials, and Brahma (the Hindu god of creation) will not be angry. That person will know their past lives for seven lifetimes. Ananda, this Dharani chapter and verse was spoken by seventy-seven billion Buddhas in the past. If someone slanders this mantra, they are immediately slandering those Buddhas. If there are ghosts and spirits who do not respect this mantra, or who contend with me for someone's power, or who have already taken it away with a mantra and do not return it, that ghost's head will be broken into seven pieces.'

At that time, Ajita Bodhisattva (another name for Maitreya Bodhisattva) arose from his seat, arranged his clothes, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I will also speak a Dharani chapter and verse, for the benefit of sentient beings, to gain increase, increase merit, increase power, increase radiance, increase fame, increase strength, to follow practice and enjoy happiness, to follow practice and receive assistance and happiness, not to be disturbed, not to be harmed, for protection.'

多(上)绖他 頞帝 跋帝 那(上)帝俱(上)那(上) 帝阿迦跋帝 波啰毗跋帝 兜婁迷 侯留留迷 安那迦細 波(上)那(上)迦(上)細迦(上)細摩訶細迦阿㝹多 波(上)啰細毗 佉祇 摩訶佉祇 斯茶比 多茶比 奚離(上) 弭離(上)底離(上) 尸離(上)覆施摩訶覆施 覆覆施 覆奢跋帝 莎婆呵

爾時佛告長老阿難言。汝受此陀羅尼章句。恒常受持讀誦。為他解說宣通流佈。阿難佛出於世難可值遇。聞此陀羅尼復倍甚難。若有善男子善女人。亦能受持此陀羅尼。受已能持讀誦。能為他人宣通解說。彼人能知未來十四世事。阿難此陀羅尼章句。過去八萬四千億諸佛所說。若有人譭謗此陀羅尼不信行者。彼人則為譭謗過去諸佛。是人則為背舍諸佛。若有眾類奪我某甲精氣。或奪已不還。是人亦得如是罪過。

爾時文殊師利童子。即從座起整衣服。偏袒右肩右膝著地而白佛言世尊。我亦說陀羅尼章句。為眾生利益故。安樂故增長功德故。增長威德故增長色故。增長名聞故增長力故。隨意受樂故隨行受安樂故。不擾亂故不殺害故守護故。而說咒曰。

這時,文殊師利(Manjusri)童子即從座位上站起,整理衣服,偏袒右肩,右膝著地,對佛說:『世尊,我也要說陀羅尼(Dharani)章句,爲了眾生的利益,爲了安樂,爲了增長功德,爲了增長威德,爲了增長色相,爲了增長名聞,爲了增長力量,爲了隨意享受快樂,爲了隨順修行享受安樂,爲了不擾亂,爲了不殺害,爲了守護,』因此宣說咒語如下:

Tadyatha Adi Bhadri Nati Kuna Ti Akabhadri Parabhibhadri Touloumi Houruloumi Annakasi Panakasi Kasi Mahakasi Anuta Parasibhi Khagi Mahakhagi Styabhi Tadhabi Hili Mili Tili Sili Vrisi Maha Vrisi Vri Vrisi Vrisabhadri Svaha.

At that time, the Buddha told the elder Ananda: 'Receive this Dharani verses, constantly uphold, recite, explain, propagate, and circulate it for others. Ananda, it is difficult to encounter a Buddha appearing in the world, and it is even more difficult to hear this Dharani. If there are good men and good women who can also receive and uphold this Dharani, and after receiving it, can recite it, and can explain and propagate it for others, that person will be able to know the events of the next fourteen lifetimes. Ananda, these Dharani verses were spoken by eighty-four trillion Buddhas in the past. If someone slanders this Dharani and does not believe in practicing it, that person is slandering the Buddhas of the past. That person is abandoning and forsaking all the Buddhas. If there are beings who steal my, so-and-so's, essence and energy, or steal it and do not return it, that person will also receive such a transgression.'

At that time, Manjusri Bodhisattva immediately rose from his seat, arranged his clothes, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I will also speak Dharani verses for the benefit of sentient beings, for their peace and happiness, for increasing merit, for increasing majesty, for increasing beauty, for increasing fame, for increasing strength, for freely enjoying happiness, for following practice and enjoying peace and happiness, for non-disturbance, for non-harming, for protection.' Therefore, the mantra is spoken as follows:

At that time, the Buddha told the elder Ānanda: 'Ānanda, receive this dhāraṇī (a mnemonic device, incantation). Constantly uphold, recite, explain, and spread it for others. Ānanda, it is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world, and it is even more difficult to hear this dhāraṇī. If someone can uphold this dhāraṇī, it is even more difficult. Ānanda, if there is a good man or good woman who can receive this dhāraṇī, and after receiving it, can uphold, recite, explain, and spread it for others, that person will know the events of the next seven lives. Ānanda, these verses of the dhāraṇī were spoken by ninety billion Buddhas in the past. If someone slanders this dhāraṇī and does not believe and practice it, that person is slandering those Buddhas of the past. That person is abandoning those Buddhas. If there are beings who steal the essence and energy of so-and-so (mǒu jiǎ) (a placeholder for a name) and do not return it, that person will also incur such offenses.'

At that time, Śākyamuni (the sage of the Shakya clan) Tathāgatā Arhat Samyak-saṃbuddha (the thus-come, worthy, completely enlightened one), told the bhikshus (monks): 'Bhikshus, I will now also speak the verses of the dhāraṇī, for the benefit of sentient beings, for their peace and happiness, for increasing merit, for increasing power and virtue, for increasing beauty, for increasing fame, for increasing strength, for freely enjoying happiness, for peacefully practicing, for non-disturbance, for non-harming, and for protection.' And then he spoke the mantra:

At that time, the Buddha told the elder Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha): 'Ananda, you should receive this dharani (a type of mantra or incantation). Constantly uphold, recite, explain, propagate, and spread it for others. Ananda, it is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world, and it is even more difficult to hear this dharani. If someone can uphold this dharani, it is even more difficult. Ananda, if there is a good man or a good woman who can receive and uphold this dharani, and after receiving it, can recite it and explain it to others, that person will be able to know the events of the next twenty-one lifetimes. Ananda, these verses of the dharani were spoken by ninety-nine billion Buddhas in the past. If someone slanders this dharani and does not believe and practice it, that person is slandering those Buddhas of the past. That person is abandoning those Buddhas. If there are beings who steal the essence and energy of so-and-so (referring to the mantra recipient), and do not return it after stealing it, that person will also incur such offenses. Ananda, if there is a good man or a good woman who upholds these verses of the dharani, even if they take a dry tree, establish a boundary for protection, perform rituals, and recite the mantra, they can still cause that dry tree to grow branches, flowers, leaves, and fruits. How much more so for sentient beings who uphold this mantra, and not receive benefits? There is no such reason. Take refuge in all Buddhas, may I accomplish this mantra, svaha (may it be accomplished).'

At that time, the World Honored One further told the bhikkus (ordained male Buddhist monastics): 'Bhikkus, I will now further speak the verses of the dharani, for the sake of benefiting, bringing peace and happiness, increasing merit, power, majesty, appearance, strength, fame, freedom, peace and happiness, preventing harm, and constant protection.' And he spoke the mantra:

Ananda, it is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world, and it is even more difficult to hear this Dharani. If someone recites this Dharani and upholds it, it is even more difficult. If there are beings who steal the essence of so-and-so (a placeholder for a name), and do not return it after stealing it, that person will also receive the same offense. If there is a mantra master who curses others with mantras, all the curses of that person will not be able to harm the one who upholds this Dharani. 或渴病佯病作者或佯癲作者。或宿作諸病不能為害。若患眼若患耳。若口唇患齒患舌。阿難我今略說一切所有苦逼者。唯除宿殃耳所造業受報。爾時世尊復告諸比丘言。我今復說陀羅尼章句。

【English Translation】 English version: Or those who feign illness due to thirst, or those who feign madness. Or past karmic diseases cannot cause harm. If one suffers from eye disease, or ear disease, or diseases of the lips, teeth, or tongue. Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), I will now briefly say that all those who are oppressed by suffering are excluded only from receiving the retribution of evil deeds committed in the past. At that time, the World Honored One again told the bhiksus (Buddhist monks): I will now speak again of the dharani (a type of mantra or incantation) verses.

Na(up) ze ju(up) na(up) ze na(up) mie(pronounce mi) bo(up) la(up) na(up) duo qie(up) xi(flat) bo(up) la(up) qie(up) xi suo po he

Past Buddhas, arhats (one who has attained Nirvana), samyaksambuddhas (a fully enlightened Buddha). Have already spoken this dharani verse. Ananda, if someone receives and upholds this dharani, recites it, explains it to others, propagates it without forgetting, that person will not be harmed by knives or staves, poisons and all diseases cannot harm him. He will not suffer from headaches, all humans and non-humans will not do evil. If he eats poison, it will turn into delicious food.

Again, the World Honored One spoke the dharani, saying:

Duo(up) die ta zha(up) zhi me zha(up) zhi he lu lu mu(up) lu(up) lu qi(up) li mei di la mei suo po he

Ananda, if someone recites this verse, receives and upholds it, and explains it to others, that person will not be harmed by knives or staves, and will not be bound or drowned in all calamities. If this mantra is chanted over a knotted thread or belt and worn, all cold and heat diseases cannot harm. All poisons can be cured immediately with this mantra.

Again, Ananda, I will speak more dharani verses, for the benefit of all beings, for peace and happiness, for increasing merit, for increasing majesty, for increasing beauty, for increasing fame, for increasing strength, for enjoying happiness at will, for enjoying peace and happiness by following practice, for not disturbing, for not killing, for protection, and speak this mantra:

【English Translation】 English version: Can be harmed. Water cannot drown, poison cannot kill, and witchcraft cannot harm. Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), I will briefly tell you, in the world of gods and humans, I have not seen, or in the world of Brahma (the Hindu god of creation), or in the world of Śrāmaṇas (wandering ascetics) and Brahmanas (Hindu priests), or in the world of Mara (the demon in Buddhism) and Asuras (a type of deity or demon in Hinduism), that someone using this Dharani (a type of mantra or incantation) verse as a protector, if creating a boundary (Sima-bandha, demarcation of territory), if performing exorcism, and experiencing mental disturbance or fear, such a thing does not exist. Why? Because the Buddhas (enlightened beings) uphold this Dharani, they can overcome all calamities. Ananda, if someone recites this Dharani, and there is a tree about to wither, chanting for it or creating a boundary for it, then that tree will grow branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, etc., and return to its original state. How much more so for a sentient person who cannot be healed? There is no such thing. Unless it is a past life's calamity, bearing the karmic retribution.

At that time, the Four Heavenly Kings (guardian deities in Buddhism), finally rose from their seats, arranged their robes, bared their right shoulders, knelt on their right knees, and with palms joined, addressed the Buddha (enlightened being) saying: 'Bhagavan (an epithet for the Buddha), I will now also speak a Dharani verse. Bhagavan, if someone upholds and remembers it, explains and proclaims it to others, revealing that we are protecting that person, out of compassion and loving-kindness, speaking the Dharani verse for that Dharma Master (teacher of Buddhist teachings), and also for the sake of protecting this Dharma text, may this Dharma text long endure in the world, subdue all demons, and block all heretics (Tirthika, non-Buddhist ascetics). Those Dharma Masters wish for longevity, physical strength, eloquence, and fearlessness to increase. Bhagavan, if you permit, we shall speak.'

At that time, the Bhagavan (an epithet for the Buddha) silently permitted. The Heavenly Kings (deities who rule over the heavens), seeing the Buddha's silence, understood his permission, and spoke the Dharani verse:

'Tad-yathā taṭhita taṭhita taṭhita taṭhita bhe taṭhita cakri bhe taṭhita bhe tandhi mahā tandhi tanda gambhani ṭaṭhi ṭaṭhaṇi mahā ṭaṭhaṇi kuṭaṇi kuṭaṇi mahā kuṭaṇi camale camale camale svāhā'

陀羅尼。誦以複誦或為解說者。悉無恐怖無處加害。一切眾類隨從彼人不能為障礙。攝護諸法故。爾時世尊嘆四天王言。汝等人輩善哉善哉。能為多人作大利益。能為多人作于安樂。能為多人守護天人。世內汝等護持正法。亦為彼等諸法師輩大作利益。擁護安樂增長正念。增長智慧增長辯才。汝等發心。

爾時世尊說此偈言。

於此陀羅尼  往昔諸佛說  我今現亦說  利益諸眾生  若有正信者  受持此章句  二十八世中  常得知宿命  若有正信者  聞此陀羅尼  在在處處中  得脫一切怖  有人非人等  夜叉鳩盤荼  富單那鬼等  不能為障礙  若誦此咒者  刀杖不能害  惡毒不能殺  大火不能燒  一切蠱道等  水淵不能溺  若誦此章句  惡魔若魔鬼  欲界天神等  不能為障礙  誦此陀羅尼  父母及兄弟  一切眷屬等  不見遠離別  讀誦此章句  一切事吉祥  百千億劫中  若造惡罪者  七日誦此咒  悉能消滅除  百千億劫中  諸菩薩造福  於七日內中  等分無有異  四大天王者  從四方來此  毗沙提頭賴  毗婁及博叉  並諸眷屬等  妙色大威德  以此咒威力  守護彼法師

At that time, the World Honored One praised the Four Heavenly Kings, saying: 'You are very good! Very good! You can bring great benefits to many people, bring peace and happiness to many people, and protect gods, humans, and the world. You protect the Dharma and also bring great benefits to those Dharma masters, supporting them, giving them peace and happiness, increasing their right mindfulness, increasing their wisdom, and increasing their eloquence. Your aspiration is very good.' At that time, the World Honored One spoke this verse: 'Regarding this Dharani, the Buddhas of the past have all spoken of it, and I also speak of it now, for the benefit of all beings. If someone truly believes and upholds this chapter and verse, then in twenty-eight lifetimes, they will often know their past lives. If someone truly believes and hears this Dharani, then in any place, they can escape all fears. Whether it is a human or a non-human, a Yaksa (Yaksa, a type of ghost), a Kumbhanda (Kumbhanda, a type of evil ghost), a Putana ghost (Putana, a type of foul hungry ghost), etc., they cannot become an obstacle to him. If one recites this mantra, swords and staffs cannot harm him, poison cannot kill him, great fire cannot burn him, all evil spells, water and abyss cannot drown him. If one recites this chapter and verse, demons, devils, gods of the desire realm, etc., cannot become an obstacle to him. Reciting this Dharani, parents, brothers, and all relatives, etc., will not suffer the pain of separation. Reading and reciting this chapter and verse, everything will be auspicious. If one has committed evil deeds in hundreds of thousands of kalpas, then by reciting this mantra for seven days, all of them can be eliminated. If in hundreds of thousands of kalpas, the merits created by the Bodhisattvas, by reciting this mantra within seven days, the merits obtained are equal, without any difference. The Four Great Heavenly Kings come here from the four directions, they are Vaisravana (Vaisravana), Dhritarashtra (Dhritarashtra), Virudhaka (Virudhaka) and Virupaksa (Virupaksa), and their retinues, they have beautiful appearances and great power, and by the power of this mantra, they protect those Dharma masters.' 難汝受持此陀羅尼法本章句。阿難此法本當作大利益。大有功能大有威力。阿難白佛言世尊。我以受持章句永不忘失。佛說此陀羅尼章句。時長老阿難。及彼一千二百五十比丘眾。及彼他方來二菩薩。帝釋天王大梵天王四天大王。並及大眾天人阿修羅乾闥婆摩睺羅伽等。聞佛所說歡喜奉行。
