如是我聞。一時佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。與大苾芻眾千二百五十人俱。及百千無央數人天菩薩之眾。恭敬圍繞而為說法。爾時百千俱胝佛剎皆往詣。彼無邊花世界。最上燈明如來應正等覺。現身住止經行說法。彼有二菩薩。一名大光明二名無量光。爾時彼佛遣二菩薩。往娑訶世界祇樹給孤獨園。詣釋迦如來正遍知覺所。到已頭面禮世尊足而坐一面。彼二菩薩白世尊言。去此佛土經行百千俱胝佛剎。有世界名無邊花。彼土有佛。名最上燈明如來應供正遍知。現住其中恒說妙法。彼世尊最上燈明如來正遍知覺故。遣我等詣娑訶世界。問訊世尊少病少惱。云何氣力輕利安住快樂。彼如是說。又此所有人非人。部多毗舍佐藥叉羅剎。供盤茶供盤茶軍主。王法盜賊。蛇蝎惡瘡蟲蟻羯拏怖嚩蟲。如是等類擾亂煩惱故。彼世尊最上燈明如來應供正遍知。說此陀羅尼真言章句。名聞十方故遣來此。為利益安樂一切眾生。顏貌怡悅色相具足身意泰然。以此秘密功德力故擁護

【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Dhāraṇī of the Holy Supreme Lamp Light Tathāgata Spoken by the Buddha
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Dharma Master Śramaṇa Śīlapāla, bestowed with the Purple Robe, from the Uḍḍiyāna country of North India, at the Emperor's Palace Temple.
Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park in Śrāvastī (Śrāvastī). He was with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty Bhikṣus, and hundreds of thousands of countless humans, devas, and Bodhisattvas. They respectfully surrounded him as he expounded the Dharma. At that time, hundreds of thousands of koṭis (koṭi, a unit of measurement in India, meaning ten million) of Buddha-lands (buddhakṣetra, the land where a Buddha teaches) went to the world of Limitless Flowers (Anantapuṣpa-loka). The Supreme Lamp Light Tathāgata (Śreṣṭhatama-pradīpa-prabhāsa-tathāgata), the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One (arhat samyak-saṃbuddha), manifested, resided, walked, and taught the Dharma there. There were two Bodhisattvas there, one named Great Light (Mahāprabha) and the other named Limitless Light (Aprameyaprabha). At that time, that Buddha sent these two Bodhisattvas to the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park in the Sahā world (Sahā-lokadhātu), to visit Śākyamuni Tathāgata (Śākyamuni-tathāgata), the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened One (samyak-saṃbuddha). Having arrived, they bowed their heads to the feet of the World-Honored One and sat to one side. These two Bodhisattvas said to the World-Honored One: 'Passing through hundreds of thousands of koṭis of Buddha-lands from our Buddha-land, there is a world called Limitless Flowers. The Buddha there is named the Supreme Lamp Light Tathāgata, Worthy of Offerings, the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened One, who now resides there, constantly expounding the wonderful Dharma. That World-Honored One, the Supreme Lamp Light Tathāgata, the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened One, has sent us to the Sahā world to inquire whether the World-Honored One has few illnesses and afflictions, whether your strength is light and agile, and whether you dwell in happiness. He said this. Furthermore, for those who are disturbed and afflicted by non-humans (amanuṣya), bhūtas (bhūta, ghosts), piśācas (piśāca, flesh-eating demons), yakṣas (yakṣa, night demons), rākṣasas (rākṣasa, demons), kumbhāṇḍas (kumbhāṇḍa, pot-shaped ghosts), kumbhāṇḍa generals (kumbhāṇḍa-senāpati), royal laws, thieves, snakes, scorpions, malignant sores, insects, ants, karṇabūpava-kṛmis, and so on, that World-Honored One, the Supreme Lamp Light Tathāgata, Worthy of Offerings, the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened One, has spoken this Dhāraṇī mantra chapter and verse, which is renowned in the ten directions, and has therefore sent us here to benefit and bring happiness to all sentient beings, to make their faces joyful, their appearances complete, and their bodies and minds peaceful, and to protect them with the power of this secret merit.'
有情。即說陀羅尼曰。

爾時世尊告尊者阿難言。汝今諦聽。此陀羅尼章句甚為難得。受持讀誦為他解說。此阿牟尼陀羅尼。佛出世時亦難得遇。若有族姓男族姓女。聽聞受持為他解說。得宿命通見彼七生之中宿命之事。一切煩惱皆悉消除。一切宿業而皆不受。
複次阿難陀。此陀羅尼真言章句。七十七俱胝佛同共宣說。若一切有情。聞此陀羅尼章句不信譭謗者。即同譭謗七十七俱胝佛。
爾時無能勝菩薩摩訶薩。即從坐起偏袒右肩右膝著地。合掌向佛白佛言。世尊我亦宣說陀羅尼真言章句。為利益安樂諸眾生故。以此秘密擁護有情。增長殊勝福力色相怡悅故。即說陀羅尼曰。
怛你也(二合)他(去引)阿跓(摘固反)嚩跓(準上切一)曩跓(亦準上)么賀(引)矩曩跓(亦準上二)阿乞嚩(二合)枲迦

【English Translation】 English version: For sentient beings, the Buddha speaks the following Dharani: 'Tadyatha jvala jvaladite huka mukha samati maha samati maha jvala jvalame sarisare maha jvala uke suke tame samati maha samati maha same svaha' At that time, the World Honored One told the Venerable Ananda: 'Listen carefully now. This Dharani verse is very rare. Receive, uphold, recite, and explain it to others. This Amuni Dharani is difficult to encounter even when a Buddha appears in the world. If there are virtuous men and virtuous women who hear, receive, uphold, and explain it to others, they will attain the power of remembering past lives (Purva-nivasasmrti), seeing the events of their past seven lives. All afflictions will be eliminated, and all past karma will not be suffered.' 'Furthermore, Ananda, this Dharani mantra verse is jointly proclaimed by seventy-seven koti Buddhas. If all sentient beings hear this Dharani verse but do not believe in it and even slander it, they are equivalent to slandering seventy-seven koti Buddhas.' At that time, Ajita Bodhisattva-Mahasattva immediately rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, addressed the Buddha, saying: 'World Honored One, I also wish to proclaim a Dharani mantra verse for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings. I will use this secret mantra to protect sentient beings, increase their supreme merit, and enhance their pleasing appearance.' Then he spoke the following Dharani: 'Tadyatha adhuvadhu nadhu maha kunadhu akshvaksika'

爾時世尊告尊者阿難陀言。汝今諦聽。此摩尼陀羅尼章句甚為希有。汝當受持讀誦為他解說。佛出於世亦甚希有。複次阿難陀。若族姓男族姓女。如是聞此陀羅尼章句。若受持諷念讀誦解說。得宿命通見彼十二生中宿命之事。一切宿業而不復受。
複次阿難陀。此陀羅尼章句。八十俱胝諸佛同共宣說。若有譭謗此陀羅尼者。即為譭謗八十俱胝佛而無有異。
爾時文殊師利童子。即從坐起偏袒右肩右膝著地。合掌恭敬白佛言。世尊我亦說此陀羅尼章句為利益安樂一切眾生。以此秘密殊勝大力擁護有情。增長色相身心怡悅故。即說陀羅尼曰。

『此外,阿難陀,如果善男子、善女人,像這樣聽聞此陀羅尼章句,如果受持、諷誦、讀誦、解說,就能得到宿命通(Purva-nivasasmrti-jnana,回憶前世的能力),見到過去十二生中的宿命之事,一切宿業都不再承受。』
『此外,阿難陀,此陀羅尼章句,八十俱胝(koti,印度計數單位,一俱胝等於一千萬)諸佛共同宣說。如果有人譭謗此陀羅尼,就等於譭謗八十俱胝佛,沒有差別。』
這時,文殊師利(Manjusri,智慧的象徵)童子,即從座位站起,偏袒右肩,右膝著地,合掌恭敬地對佛說:『世尊,我也要宣說此陀羅尼章句,爲了利益安樂一切眾生,用這秘密殊勝的大力來擁護有情,增長他們的色相,使他們身心愉悅。』
隨即宣說陀羅尼曰:
怛你也替能,阿罽么罽,曩爾𩕳,曩誐啰枲,曩醯禮,曩醯禮,惹醯攞讚你,贊拏禮,贊拏攞嚩帝,娑嚩賀。
這時,世尊告訴尊者阿難陀說:『你現在仔細聽。阿難陀,此陀羅尼章句難以獲得,非常稀有。你應該受持、讀誦,併爲他人解說。』
【English Translation】 English version Hri A-na-ka-hri, Ma-na-ka-hri, A-na-da, Kha-jo Ma-ha-kha-jo, Sa-nai-qi-da-nai-qi, Da-lu-ming, Du-lu-ming, Hi-li Mi-li Di-li, Svaha.
At that time, the World-Honored One told the Venerable Ananda (one of the ten major disciples of the Buddha): 'Listen carefully now. This Mani Dharani (Jewel Dharani) verse is extremely rare. You should receive, uphold, recite, and explain it to others. It is also very rare for a Buddha to appear in the world.'
'Furthermore, Ananda, if a son or daughter of a good family hears this Dharani verse, and if they receive, uphold, chant, recite, and explain it, they will attain the power of remembering past lives (Purva-nivasasmrti-jnana), seeing the events of their past lives in the twelve realms of existence, and all past karmas will no longer be endured.'
'Furthermore, Ananda, this Dharani verse is proclaimed together by eighty kotis (koti, an Indian unit of counting, one koti equals ten million) of Buddhas. If anyone slanders this Dharani, it is the same as slandering eighty kotis of Buddhas, without any difference.'
At that time, Manjusri (symbol of wisdom) Bodhisattva, arose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and with palms joined respectfully said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One, I will also speak this Dharani verse for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, using this secret, supremely powerful force to protect sentient beings, increase their radiance, and make their bodies and minds joyful.'
Then he spoke the Dharani, saying:
Tadyatha, A-gei-me-gei, Na-er-ni, Na-ga-la-si, Na-hi-li, Na-hi-li, Re-hi-la-zan-ni, Zan-na-li, Zan-na-la-wa-di, Svaha.
At that time, the World-Honored One told the Venerable Ananda: 'Listen carefully now. Ananda, this Dharani verse is difficult to obtain and extremely rare. You should receive, uphold, recite, and explain it to others.'
阿難陀此陀羅尼章句。佛出世時亦復希有。阿難陀此陀羅尼章句。若有族姓男族姓女。聽聞受持讀誦諷念為他解說。得宿命通見彼十三生宿命之事。一切煩惱皆悉消除。一切宿業而皆不受。
複次阿難陀。此陀羅尼章句。八十二俱胝菩薩同共宣說。若有譭謗此陀羅尼者。即為譭謗八十二俱胝菩薩而無有異。
爾時世尊告諸苾芻言。我亦說此陀羅尼章句。為利益安樂一切眾生。令諸有情福德增長。身心怡悅名稱普聞。有大勢力顏貌端正。以此秘密擁護故。即說陀羅尼曰。

這時,世尊告訴尊者阿難陀說:『你現在仔細聽著,阿難陀,受持這個陀羅尼章句,讀誦、背誦併爲他人解說。阿難陀,這個陀羅尼章句非常稀有。阿難陀,這個阿牟尼陀羅尼章句,即使在佛陀出世時也是非常稀有的。阿難陀,如果某個家族的男子或女子,聽聞、受持併爲他人解說,就能獲得宿命。』
【English Translation】 English version: Ananda, this Dharani (a type of mantra) verse is rare even when a Buddha appears in the world. Ananda, if a man or woman of good family hears, upholds, recites, chants, and explains this Dharani verse to others, they will gain knowledge of their past lives and see the events of their past thirteen existences. All afflictions will be eliminated, and they will not have to suffer any past karma.
Furthermore, Ananda, this Dharani verse is jointly proclaimed by eighty-two kotis (koti: an ancient Indian unit of counting, equivalent to ten million) of Bodhisattvas. If anyone slanders this Dharani, it is the same as slandering eighty-two kotis of Bodhisattvas, without any difference.
At that time, the World Honored One told the Bhikshus (Buddhist monks), 'I will also speak this Dharani verse for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, so that the merits of all sentient beings may increase, their bodies and minds may be joyful, their names may be widely known, and they may have great power and a dignified appearance. Because of this secret protection.' Then he spoke the Dharani, which is as follows:
Tad-ya-ta te-ne a-ju va-ju na-ju ku-na-ju cha-ke cha-ra-ke ta-ru-ve tu-ru-ve ra-ta-ve dhu-le ru-le ha-le mi-le ti-le shi-le shi-ri ham-le a-pu va-pu na-pu ku-na-chi a-na-pa-ti va-na-pa-ti ke-si ke-si ke-si cha-si cha-si cha-si ma-ha cha-si sva-ha.
At that time, the World Honored One said to the Venerable Ananda, 'Now listen carefully, Ananda, uphold this Dharani verse, recite, chant, and explain it to others. Ananda, this Dharani verse is very rare. Ananda, this Amuni Dharani verse is very rare even when a Buddha appears in the world. Ananda, if a man or woman of good family hears, upholds, and explains it to others, they will gain knowledge of their past lives.'
通見彼十四生中宿命之事。一切煩惱皆悉消除。一切宿業而皆不受。複次阿難陀此陀羅尼章句。八十四俱胝佛同共宣說。若有譭謗此陀羅尼者。即為譭謗八十四俱胝佛而無有異。阿難陀若有族姓男族姓女。于枯朽樹下以此陀羅尼章句若讀若誦。潛護救濟火不能燒。令彼枯樹重生枝葉花果敷榮。何況受持之人。爾時世尊復告諸苾芻言。我今重說陀羅尼章句。為利益安樂一切眾生。顏貌怡悅名稱普聞。福德增長色相端嚴。以此秘密擁護故。即說陀羅尼曰。

爾時世尊告尊者阿難陀言。汝今諦聽。此陀羅尼章句甚為希有。汝等受持讀誦為他解說。阿難陀此阿牟尼陀羅尼佛出於世亦甚希有。阿難陀若族姓男族姓女。聞此陀羅尼章句。受持讀誦為他解說。得宿命通見彼二十一生宿命之事。一切煩惱皆悉消除。一切宿業而皆不受。又復擁護所有一切部多。一切天龍藥叉犍闥嚩阿蘇啰㜸嚕茶緊那羅么護啰誐人非人不能侵害。乃至一切惡瘡蛇蟲羯拏婆蟲亦不能為害。又復無彼一切瘧病風黃痰癊。如是

【English Translation】 English version: One can understand the events of past lives within those fourteen existences. All afflictions are eliminated, and no karmic debts are received. Furthermore, Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), these Dharani (a type of mantra or incantation) verses were jointly proclaimed by eighty-four koti (an Indian numerical unit equal to ten million) Buddhas. If anyone slanders this Dharani, it is equivalent to slandering eighty-four koti Buddhas, without any difference. Ananda, if there are virtuous men or virtuous women who, under a withered tree, recite or chant these Dharani verses, they will be secretly protected and rescued, so that fire cannot burn it, and the withered tree will regrow branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits in abundance, let alone those who uphold this Dharani. At that time, the World-Honored One (Shakyamuni Buddha) further told the bhiksus (Buddhist monks): 'I will now reiterate the Dharani verses for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, so that their faces are joyful, their names are widely known, their merits increase, and their appearances are dignified and beautiful, because of this secret protection.' 【English Translation】 English version: The disease will erupt in a very short time, lasting one day, two days, three days, four days, even seven days, half a month, a month, a year. It will not be harmed for a long time. Moreover, there will be no more troubles from those sores, carbuncles, paralysis, scabies, sores, and all kinds of diseases, all karmic obstacles, all curses, and all Vaitada (a type of evil spirit) cannot harm. 'This Dharani of the Sutra, past Buddhas have all spoken, I now also speak the meaning of these mantra verses, so that listeners may uphold it, benefiting all sentient beings, able to see the various past lives of twenty-one lifetimes.
No human or non-human, Yaksa (Yaksa), Kumbhanda (Kumbhanda), Raksa (Raksa), Putana (Putana), etc., will create various obstacles.
Proclaim this Dharani, and all desires will be freely fulfilled, the karmic obstacles of Mara (Mara) and others will naturally be eliminated.
Proclaiming this Dharani, parents and siblings, knowledge and relatives, evil deeds cannot harm them.
Upholding this Dharani, in the wilderness and on the road, lions, tigers, wolves, etc., cannot cause fear.
Reciting this Dharani, even after hundreds of thousands of kotis of kalpas, all the sins committed in the past will be completely eliminated within seven days.
Explaining this Dharani, within seven days, one can obtain all the merits of a Bodhisattva, which will not be exhausted even after kotis of kalpas.
To protect this Dharani, there are always the Four Heavenly Kings—Dhritarashtra (Dhritarashtra), Vaisravana (Vaisravana), Virudhaka (Virudhaka), and Virupaksa (Virupaksa)—leading all of their respective realms.'
