如是我聞。一時薄伽梵。在王舍城羯闌鐸迦池竹林園中。與大苾芻眾五百人俱。菩薩摩訶薩千二百人。皆得陀羅尼辯才無滯。獲無染智游無礙境。善權方便攝引眾生。觀察世間。心行平等。饒益慈悲意樂純凈。于諸佛所甚深妙法悉能咨問。其名曰慈氏菩薩摩訶薩。常勤勇菩薩摩訶薩。平等住菩薩摩訶薩。大慧菩薩摩訶薩。無邊辯菩薩摩訶薩。勇慧菩薩摩訶薩。觀自在菩薩摩訶薩。除疑菩薩摩訶薩。如是等諸大菩薩摩訶薩而為上首。並諸釋梵護世四天王龍神八部。及諸外道數有六千。各將眷屬悉皆雲集。此等大眾咸至佛所。禮佛足已右繞三匝。雨妙天花奏天音樂。燒眾名香而為供養。爾時大眾咸作是語。善哉善哉如來教法具大威德。有歸信者能斷煩惱。作是語已各坐一面。爾時世尊入能斷惑離垢三摩地。入此定時大地即便六種震動。雨天細末微妙栴檀。及妙天花在處彌布。放大光明周遍世界。若諸有情墮惡趣者蒙光得脫。亦至一切天龍藥叉八部之眾。所居宮殿無不明照。聞天音樂及天妙香。彼諸天神見不思議希有事已。皆生是念誰作如是殊勝神力

【English Translation】 English version: Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was in the Bamboo Grove Monastery, at the Kalandaka Fishpond in Rājagṛha (Royal City), together with five hundred great bhikṣus (monks). There were also twelve hundred bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (great bodhisattvas), all of whom had attained dhāraṇī (retentive memory) eloquence without obstruction, acquired undefiled wisdom, roamed in unobstructed realms, were skilled in expedient means to guide sentient beings, observed the world with equanimity, possessed pure intentions of beneficence and compassion, and were able to inquire about the profound and subtle Dharma of all the Buddhas. Their names were: Maitreya bodhisattva-mahāsattva (the bodhisattva Maitreya), the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Constant Diligence, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Equal Abiding, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Great Wisdom, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Boundless Eloquence, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Courageous Wisdom, Avalokiteśvara bodhisattva-mahāsattva (the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara), the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Remover of Doubts, and so on, these great bodhisattva-mahāsattvas being the foremost. Also present were the Śakra (Lord Śakra), Brahmā (Lord Brahmā), the Four Guardian Kings of the World (Lokapālas), the nāgas (dragons) and other beings of the eight classes, as well as six thousand non-Buddhist practitioners, each with their retinues, all gathered together. These assemblies all came to the Buddha's abode, bowed at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated the Buddha three times to the right, and rained down wondrous celestial flowers, played celestial music, and burned various precious incenses as offerings. At that time, the assemblies all said: 'Excellent! Excellent! The Tathāgata's teachings possess great power and virtue, and those who take refuge in them can cut off afflictions.' After saying these words, they each sat to one side. At this time, the World-Honored One entered the samādhi (meditative absorption) of cutting off delusion and being free from defilement. Upon entering this samādhi, the earth immediately quaked in six ways, and fine, subtle sandalwood (candana) powder and wondrous celestial flowers rained down, spreading everywhere. Great light was emitted, illuminating the entire world. Those sentient beings who had fallen into evil destinies were liberated by the light. The light also illuminated all the palaces inhabited by the nāgas (dragons), yakṣas (demons), and other beings of the eight classes, leaving none unilluminated. They heard celestial music and smelled celestial fragrances. Upon seeing these inconceivable and rare events, the gods all had this thought: 'Who has created such extraordinary divine power?'


。令地大動雨天香花。放大光明照耀宮室。作是念已互相告曰。此是如來現大威德。非余天等能有斯瑞。我等今者應往竹園。詣世尊所禮拜供養聽聞妙法。彼各持大嗢缽羅花拘物頭花分陀利花蘇健提花。曼陀羅華摩訶曼陀羅華。至世尊所頂禮雙足。而為供養雨眾天華。彌滿大地積至於膝。瞻仰尊顏合掌恭敬復有他方無量菩薩。及執金剛菩薩莊嚴王菩薩。並萬億諸天持咒神王。見大光明各以威力。作妙莊嚴香華音樂。來至佛所。並諸眷屬皆繞三匝。虔誠合掌禮佛雙足為供養已。皆具威儀退坐一面。

爾時慈氏等諸大菩薩。見諸大眾皆雲集已。作如是念我觀大眾咸至佛所。必當演說不可思議殊妙之法。咸皆寂慮佇聽微言。是時世尊知諸菩薩一切大眾心之所念。即從定起告莊嚴王菩薩言。善男子汝今宜去觀此大地。何所見耶。時莊嚴王菩薩承佛教已。從座而起即觀大地。既遍觀已還至佛所。禮佛雙足在一面立。白佛言世尊。我奉佛教觀此大地。所有人天一切大眾普皆雲集唯愿慈悲為諸眾生作饒益事。

爾時佛告莊嚴王菩薩言。汝當一心聽我所說我今當與六十四億有緣眾生。授無上菩提記。爾時執金剛菩薩即從座起。合掌向佛白言世尊。今有無量億數天龍藥叉及諸羅剎乾闥婆阿蘇羅揭嚕荼緊那羅莫呼洛伽人。及非

【English Translation】 Then, the earth shook greatly, and fragrant flowers rained down from the sky. Great light was emitted, illuminating palaces and houses. Having thought thus, they told each other, 'This is the Tathagata (one of the titles of the Buddha) manifesting great power and virtue; no other gods or beings could have such auspicious signs. We should now go to the Bamboo Grove, to the World Honored One (Lokasenna, one of the titles of the Buddha) to pay homage, make offerings, and listen to the wonderful Dharma.' They each held large utpala flowers (utpala, blue lotus), kumuda flowers (kumuda, white water lily), pundarika flowers (pundarika, white lotus), sugandhika flowers (sugandhika, fragrant flower), mandarava flowers (mandarava, celestial red flower), and mahamandarava flowers (mahamandarava, great mandarava flower), and went to the World Honored One, prostrated at his feet, and made offerings, raining down various celestial flowers, filling the earth and piling up to the knees. They gazed upon the Venerable One's face, joined their palms respectfully. Moreover, countless Bodhisattvas from other directions, as well as Vajrapani Bodhisattva (Vajrapani, Bodhisattva holding a vajra), Vyuharaja Bodhisattva (Vyuharaja, Bodhisattva known for adornment), and billions of gods and mantra-holding spirit kings, seeing the great light, each used their power to create wonderful adornments, fragrant flowers, and music, and came to the Buddha's place. Together with their retinues, they all circumambulated the Buddha three times, sincerely joined their palms, prostrated at the Buddha's feet as offerings, and then respectfully withdrew and sat to one side. At that time, Maitreya Bodhisattva (Maitreya, the future Buddha) and other great Bodhisattvas, seeing that the assembly had all gathered, thought thus: 'I observe that the assembly has all come to the Buddha's place, the Buddha will surely expound the inconceivable and wonderful Dharma.' Everyone silently contemplated, waiting to hear the Buddha's subtle words. At that time, the World Honored One, knowing the thoughts in the minds of all the Bodhisattvas and the entire assembly, arose from samadhi and said to Vyuharaja Bodhisattva: 'Good man, you should now go and observe this earth. What do you see?' At that time, Vyuharaja Bodhisattva, having received the Buddha's teaching, arose from his seat and immediately observed the earth. Having completed the universal observation, he returned to the Buddha's place, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and stood to one side. He reported to the Buddha, saying: 'World Honored One, I have observed this earth according to the Buddha's teaching. All the humans, gods, and the entire assembly have universally gathered. May you be compassionate and do beneficial things for all beings.' At that time, the Buddha said to Vyuharaja Bodhisattva: 'You should listen attentively to what I say. I will now bestow predictions of unsurpassed Bodhi (vyakarana, prediction of future Buddhahood) upon sixty-four billion sentient beings who have affinities.' At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva immediately arose from his seat, joined his palms towards the Buddha, and reported, saying: 'World Honored One, there are now countless billions of nagas (naga, deities protecting the Dharma), yakshas (yaksa, a type of spirit), as well as rakshasas (raksasa, a type of demon), gandharvas (gandharva, celestial musicians), asuras (asura, a type of warring deity), garudas (garuda, a large bird), kinnaras (kinnara, celestial musicians), mahoragas (mahoraga, serpent deities), humans, and non-humans (amanussa, non-human beings).'


人並諸外道。悉皆來集世尊今正是時。唯愿為說一切法功德莊嚴王經能銷一切業障。能滅一切罪苦。能斷一切魔業。未信有情令生敬信。除去饑饉常得豐樂。銷諸疾病遠離抂死。亦令有情永除追悔。悉得安隱常受快樂。世尊我往昔時曾於電光佛所聽受此經。才得聞已一切妙法皆得現前。一切惡道悉皆關閉所有業障鹹得銷除。唯愿慈悲為眾演說。作是語已世尊默然。

爾時執金剛菩薩。亦復如是再三慇勤勸請為說。佛告執金剛菩薩言。善男子汝勿請我說一切法功德莊嚴王經。何以故我若說者。於後惡世當有眾生。不能信受作如是語。此經非是如來所說。亦非贊毀此經。能招善惡二種之業然彼眾生為慳貪故。不能恭敬供養是經。于說法師亦不親近。謗毀是經廣興不信。于現世中造眾惡業。未來之世墮地獄中受燒然苦。善男子如此經王。深可尊重猶如父母。復能滅除諸惡業障。然於五濁惡世。非是說時亦非聽時。何以故勿當令彼一切外道及諸有情。墮于地獄餓鬼傍生長受諸苦。然此眾生信心闕少。樂著諸欲勤營俗務販賣諍訟。於此經典必起謗心。此等眾生命終之後。墮八大地獄當受極苦。

爾時眾中有八萬人。俱從坐起頂禮佛足。白佛言世尊。我等深心信是經典。尊重供養書寫讀誦廣為他說。若有愚人不信此法

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本:人和所有外道都聚集到世尊這裡,現在正是時候。 唯愿世尊為我們宣說《一切法功德莊嚴王經》,此經能夠消除一切業障,滅除一切罪苦,斷除一切魔業,使未生信仰的有情生起敬信,除去饑饉,常得豐樂,消除各種疾病,遠離橫死,也能使有情永遠消除追悔,都得到安穩,常受快樂。 世尊,我往昔曾在電光佛(Dian Guang Fo)處聽聞過此經,才一聽聞,一切妙法都得以顯現,一切惡道都得以關閉,所有業障都得以消除。 唯愿世尊慈悲,為大眾演說此經。 說完這些話后,世尊保持沉默。

這時,執金剛菩薩(Zhi Jingang Pusa)也同樣再三慇勤地勸請世尊宣說此經。 佛告訴執金剛菩薩說:『善男子,你不要請我說《一切法功德莊嚴王經》。 為什麼呢? 如果我宣說此經,在後世的惡世中,當有眾生不能信受,會說這樣的話:這部經不是如來說的。 讚揚或詆譭此經,都能招致善惡兩種業報。 然而那些眾生因為慳吝貪婪的緣故,不能恭敬供養這部經,對於說法師也不親近,誹謗這部經,廣泛地興起不信。 在現世中造作各種惡業,未來之世會墮入地獄中,遭受燒燃的痛苦。 善男子,這部經王,非常值得尊重,猶如父母一般,又能滅除各種惡業和業障。 然而在五濁惡世中,現在不是宣說此經的時候,也不是聽聞此經的時候。 為什麼呢? 不要讓那些外道和有情,墮入地獄、餓鬼、畜生道中,長久地遭受各種痛苦。 然而這些眾生缺少信心,喜歡執著于各種慾望,勤奮地經營世俗事務,販賣貨物,爭論訴訟,對於這部經典必定會生起誹謗之心。 這些眾生命終之後,會墮入八大地獄,遭受極大的痛苦。』

這時,大眾中有八萬人,都從座位上站起來,頂禮佛足,對佛說:『世尊,我們深深地相信這部經典,尊重供養,書寫讀誦,廣泛地為他人宣說。 如果有愚人不相信此法,

【English Translation】 English version: People and all non-Buddhist practitioners gathered before the World Honored One, now is the opportune time. We beseech the World Honored One to expound on the 『King of the Sutra of the Merit and Adornment of All Dharmas,』 which can eliminate all karmic obstacles, extinguish all sinful sufferings, sever all demonic activities, cause those sentient beings who have not yet developed faith to generate reverence and belief, remove famine and constantly attain abundance and joy, eliminate all diseases, avoid untimely death, and also enable sentient beings to forever eliminate remorse, all attain peace and constantly experience happiness. World Honored One, in the past, I heard this sutra at the place of Dian Guang Buddha (Buddha of Electric Light), and as soon as I heard it, all wonderful dharmas manifested before me, all evil paths were closed, and all karmic obstacles were eliminated. We beseech the World Honored One to compassionately expound on this sutra for the assembly.』 After saying these words, the World Honored One remained silent.

At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva Holding the Vajra) also earnestly requested the World Honored One to expound on this sutra in the same manner, again and again. The Buddha told Vajrapani Bodhisattva: 『Good man, do not ask me to speak about the 『King of the Sutra of the Merit and Adornment of All Dharmas.』 Why? If I were to speak it, in the evil age of the future, there would be sentient beings who would not be able to believe and accept it, and would say such words: 『This sutra was not spoken by the Tathagata.』 Praising or defaming this sutra can bring about both good and evil karmic retributions. However, those sentient beings, due to their stinginess and greed, would not be able to respectfully make offerings to this sutra, nor would they be close to the Dharma teachers, defaming this sutra and widely promoting disbelief. In this present life, they would create all kinds of evil karma, and in the future life, they would fall into hell and suffer the pain of burning. Good man, this King of Sutras is deeply worthy of respect, like parents, and can also eliminate all evil karma and karmic obstacles. However, in the evil age of the five defilements, now is not the time to speak this sutra, nor is it the time to listen to it. Why? Lest those non-Buddhists and sentient beings fall into hell, the realm of hungry ghosts, and the animal realm, and endure all kinds of suffering for a long time. However, these sentient beings lack faith, are fond of clinging to various desires, diligently engage in worldly affairs, trading and litigation, and will surely give rise to slanderous thoughts towards this sutra. After these sentient beings die, they will fall into the eight great hells and suffer extreme pain.』

At that time, there were eighty thousand people in the assembly who all rose from their seats, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and said to the Buddha: 『World Honored One, we deeply believe in this sutra, respect and make offerings to it, write, recite, and widely proclaim it to others. If there are foolish people who do not believe in this Dharma,


。由慢法故亦當毀罵輕𣣋於我。我于爾時悉皆忍受。報此經恩終無恨忿。唯愿為說殊勝經典。所以者何此妙經王。于當來世利益眾生如佛無異。作是語已退坐一面。執金剛菩薩白佛言。世尊云何菩薩摩訶薩求善知識。佛言善男子。求善知識應當如是成就四法。一者數往請問。二者起精勤心。三者意樂清凈。四者尊重愛法。執金剛菩薩白佛言。世尊云何菩薩住阿蘭若。佛言善男子成就四法住阿蘭若。一者舍離俗家。二者遠惡知識。三者盡舍財物。四者常攝自心。

爾時觀自在菩薩白佛言。世尊我不見有聞此經人墮惡趣者。世尊此經有大威德難可思量。世尊若有暫聞此經禮拜讚歎供養恭敬獲無量福。何況書寫讀誦受持。種種香花而為供養。及說法師以衣食等而為供養。如是之人一切諸佛。共所護念為其授記。當得往生安樂世界。如是法師與佛無異。佛言善哉善哉善男子。我亦供養如是法師亦為授記。當得生於安樂世界速趣菩提。若復有人于諸佛所及此經典。尊重恭敬已。妙香花涂香末香。衣服瓔珞種種音樂。幢蓋繒幡而供養者。此人終無非時橫死。無有怨賊兵戰之怖。亦無父母妻子眷屬朋友知識憂戚之苦。有所希求無不遂意。善男子諸佛出世。其事甚難。得聞是經更難於彼。若斯經典所在之處。城邑聚落蘭若林中及

To repay the kindness of this sutra, I will never have resentment or anger. I only hope that (you) will explain the supreme sutra for me. Why? Because this wonderful King of Sutras will benefit sentient beings in future generations, and there is no difference from the Buddha. After saying these words, (he) retreated to one side and sat down. Vajrapani Bodhisattva asked the Buddha: 'World Honored One, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva seek a good teacher (kalyāṇa-mitra)?' The Buddha said: 'Good man, seeking a good teacher should accomplish four dharmas. First, frequently go to ask questions. Second, generate a diligent mind. Third, have pure intention. Fourth, respect and cherish the Dharma.' Vajrapani Bodhisattva asked the Buddha: 'World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva dwell in an araṇya (quiet place)?' The Buddha said: 'Good man, accomplishing four dharmas can dwell in an araṇya. First, abandon the secular home. Second, stay away from bad company. Third, completely give up wealth. Fourth, constantly restrain one's own mind.' At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I have never seen anyone who hears this sutra fall into evil realms. World Honored One, this sutra has great power and virtue, which is difficult to fathom. World Honored One, if someone temporarily hears this sutra, bows, praises, makes offerings, and respects it, they will obtain immeasurable blessings, let alone writing, reciting, upholding it, and making offerings with various fragrant flowers, as well as making offerings to the Dharma teacher with clothing, food, and drink. Such a person will be protected and remembered by all Buddhas, and they will be prophesied to be reborn in the Land of Bliss (Sukhāvatī). Such a Dharma teacher is no different from the Buddha.' The Buddha said: 'Good, good, good man, I will also make offerings to such a Dharma teacher, and I will also prophesy that he will be reborn in the Land of Bliss and quickly attain bodhi (enlightenment). If someone respects and reveres the Buddhas and this sutra, and makes offerings with wonderful incense, flowers, scented paste, powdered incense, clothing, necklaces, various music, banners, canopies, and silken streamers, this person will never die an untimely or violent death, and there will be no fear of enemies, thieves, or war. At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, for what reason is Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva named Avalokiteśvara?' The World Honored One replied, '(Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva) constantly observes all beings in the world with pure eyes, comforts and matures them with compassionate words, bestows compassion and benefits upon them, and brings them peace. If someone calls upon his name, whatever they wish for will be fulfilled. For this reason, he is named Avalokiteśvara.' Vajrapani Bodhisattva further said to the Buddha, 'If beings merely call upon the name of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, they can still have their requests fulfilled. How much more so if someone makes offerings to the Tathagata (如來,another name for Buddha) and this scripture, writing, reciting, and widely explaining it to others, offering clothing, incense, and flowers? The merit of this person is immeasurable and boundless.' Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, this scripture has great power and virtue and can accomplish the work of the Buddhas. I only hope that the World Honored One, for the sake of compassion for all beings, will further explain the Dharani (陀羅尼,mantra) mantra.' The Buddha said, 'Good man, there is a Dharani named Supreme and Wonderful. When I was a Bodhisattva in the Supreme and Wonderful World, I heard this Dharani mantra with the great assembly from the Wonderful Sound Buddha (妙音如來). Having received and obtained it, I attained the Dharma of the Ten Grounds (十地法,the ten stages of a Bodhisattva's path). Countless beings all attained the forbearance of the non-arising of phenomena (無生法忍,understanding of the non-arising and non-ceasing of all dharmas).' At that time, all the Bodhisattvas in the assembly rose from their seats and said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, we only hope that you will have compassion and pity on us and allow us to recite this Dharani mantra.' At that time, the World Honored One, in a Brahma voice, spoke the mantra:

世尊若復有人慾入菩薩地愿見諸如來樂生

If there are good men and good women who, with faith, bow in reverence, respectfully make offerings, write, read, recite, and uphold this Sutra, and also make offerings to the Dharma masters who uphold the Sutra, all their karmic obstacles will be eliminated, they will not suffer untimely death, they will always experience joy in this life, their parents, wives, children, friends, and relatives will all be peaceful and secure, and all their wishes will be fulfilled. Vajrapani Bodhisattva again said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I also respectfully uphold this Sutra. If there are those who use wonderful incense, flowers, and various foods and drinks to make offerings to this Sutra and the Dharma masters, I will also rejoice and wholeheartedly make offerings to this Sutra. They can make offerings by writing, reciting, using incense, flowers, music, clothing, food, silk canopies, and banners. I (referring to the speaker in the scripture, generally considered to be a Buddha or Bodhisattva) will protect such people, fulfilling their wishes, and cherish them as if they were my own children. World Honored One, if there are people who are inherently dull and wish to become intelligent, or who wish to protect their country and keep it free from disease and epidemics, they should begin on the eighth day of the white month (referring to the first to fifteenth days of the lunar month), fasting for one day and reciting this mantra, until the fifteenth day and even until the end of the month. 複次有四種魔云何為四。一者貪著財物。二者觀近惡友。三者障礙法師。四者於法師說陳其罪過。是等眾生由此業故當受貧窮。不見善友遠離尊師。作邪見想說無因果。墮于地獄受諸劇苦。佛告大眾我今再三實言告汝。勿為放逸輕此經典。一心信受莫生誹謗。爾時世尊欲重宣此義。而說頌言。

我曾宣說眾經王  令諸眾生得正覺  今更說斯真妙典  汝聞恭敬善修行  勿受當來極苦痛  墮在地獄經多劫  能於此經生信心  世世常為我真子  又復供養此經者

【English Translation】 English version: Now manifesting excellent signs, causing (beings) to see good dreams and speak with them, fulfilling their desires, and eliminating those who do not believe. (The Buddha) said, 'Excellent, excellent! You are able to have compassion for all sentient beings and proclaim this mantra dharma.' At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva told Vajrapani Bodhisattva, 'This wonderful scripture is difficult to encounter. Beings with meager blessings, even if this scripture exists in their country, cannot see it, nor can they write, recite, hear, or uphold it. Why? Because there are evil demons acting as obstacles.' 'Furthermore, good man, if there are sentient beings who write and recite this scripture, there are four evil demons who will come to harass them. What are the four? First, generating laziness; second, giving rise to disbelief; third, not generating respect for the Dharma teacher; fourth, the mind cannot be stabilized. This person should know that this is the work of demons.' 'There are also four kinds of demonic actions. What are the four? First, distancing oneself from good spiritual friends (kalyāṇa-mitta); second, not engaging in appropriate attention (ayoniso manasikara); third, not understanding the written word; fourth, only seeing the present and saying there is no future, creating all kinds of evil karma, with no fear in their hearts, and saying there is no cause and effect.' '(They) say, 'What I say is right, and everything else is unlawful.' They enjoy managing worldly affairs and are entangled by greed. Such beings should fall into hell, experiencing immense suffering for countless kalpas.' 'Furthermore, there are four kinds of demons, what are the four? First, being attached to wealth; second, associating with bad friends; third, obstructing the Dharma teacher; fourth, recounting the Dharma teacher's faults. These beings, because of these karmas, should suffer poverty, not see good friends, distance themselves from respected teachers, generate wrong views, say there is no cause and effect, fall into hell, and suffer all kinds of intense pain.' The Buddha told the assembly, 'I now truthfully tell you again and again, do not be negligent and belittle this scripture, wholeheartedly believe and accept it, and do not generate slander.' At that time, the World Honored One, wanting to proclaim this meaning again, spoke the following verse: 'I once proclaimed the king of all scriptures, causing all beings to attain perfect enlightenment; now I proclaim this true and wonderful scripture again, after hearing it, respectfully cultivate it well; do not suffer the extreme pain of the future, falling into hell for many kalpas; those who can generate faith in this scripture, in lifetime after lifetime, will always be my true children; and those who make offerings to this scripture, ...'


當得生於凈土中  現無羅剎鬼神欺  亦無眾惡來侵擾  若此經王所住處  無諸災厄能害人  所有求愿悉隨心  安樂能至菩提岸

爾時四天王聞此頌已。悲泣流淚舉身戰掉。禮佛雙足白言世尊。我等四天王若見守持此經法師。我當供養彼說法時。及諸聽眾皆當覆護。若有國王於此經典。書寫讀誦受持供養者。我當擁衛及彼國人由如一子。亦以衣服瓔珞而供給之。令彼國界豐饒財寶無所闕乏。若戰陣時常令得勝。念報佛恩我無懈怠。世尊若復有人聞此經典。不生信心供養法師者。我於是人無有方便。能為救脫但生憂惱。佛言善哉善哉汝護正法。能生如是殷重之心。

爾時持國天王乾闥婆主。從坐而起頂禮佛足。合掌恭敬白佛言世尊。當來之世有諸眾生。常行不善不信如來。於此經典不能供養書寫讀誦。亦不行施不信佈施有現世樂報。世尊大慈為如是等不信人故。說此經典令彼受行。佛言善男子有二種事。令諸眾生墮大地獄生死輪迴。一者淫慾二者瞋恚。復有四法令諸眾生生人天中雲何為四。一者于諸眾生心行平等。二者於三寶所起殷重心。三者所有資生皆悉能施。四者堅持梵行無所有缺。爾時世尊欲重宣此義。而說頌言。

佈施能有大威神  於三惡趣拔眾苦  眾生慳貪癡所惑  種

If this 'King of Sutras' dwells in a place, there will be no disasters that can harm people, All wishes will be fulfilled as desired, and happiness will eventually reach the shore of Bodhi (enlightenment).

At that time, the Four Heavenly Kings, having heard this verse, wept with sorrow and trembled all over. They prostrated at the Buddha's feet and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, if we Four Heavenly Kings see a Dharma master who upholds this sutra, we should make offerings to him when he preaches the Dharma, and we should cover and protect all the listeners. If there is a king who writes, recites, receives, upholds, and makes offerings to this sutra, we should protect and defend him and the people of his country as if they were our own children. We will also provide them with clothes and necklaces, so that their country will be prosperous and have no lack of wealth. If there is a war, we will always ensure their victory. Remembering to repay the Buddha's kindness, we dare not be negligent. World Honored One, if someone hears this sutra but does not generate faith and does not make offerings to the Dharma master, we have no means to save him from suffering, but can only feel sorrow and distress.' The Buddha said: 'Excellent! Excellent! You protect the Dharma and are able to generate such a sincere heart.'

At that time, Dhritarashtra (Eastern King, upholder of the country), the lord of the Gandharvas (celestial musicians), arose from his seat, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and respectfully said to the Buddha with palms joined: 'World Honored One, in the future, there will be many beings who constantly do unwholesome deeds, do not believe in the Tathagata, and cannot make offerings to, write, or recite this sutra. They also do not practice giving and do not believe that giving has present-life happiness as a result. World Honored One, with great compassion, for the sake of these unbelieving people, you preach this sutra so that they may accept and practice it.' The Buddha said: 'Good man, there are two things that cause beings to fall into the great hell and the cycle of birth and death. One is lust, and the other is anger. There are also four things that enable beings to be born in the human and heavenly realms. What are these four? First, to have equality in mind towards all beings; second, to generate a sincere heart towards the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha); third, to be able to give away all one's livelihood; fourth, to uphold pure conduct without any deficiency.' At that time, the World Honored One, wanting to proclaim this meaning again, spoke in verse:

種染欲惱其情  聞此經典不敬受  于佛法中無信施  捨身當墮于惡趣  當受無邊大劇苦  饒益國主及人民  我說斯經具威德  令離惡病眾邪惱  不被藥叉等所害  若有信經書寫人  供養能生無量福  一切眾生智如佛  多劫說福不能盡  若有經于多劫數  供養一切諸菩薩  不如於此妙經王  暫時信心書一字  持前功德比此福  此為億分不及一  是故智人於此經  一心奉行無懈怠

Upon abandoning the body, they will fall into evil realms, enduring boundless and immense suffering. I declare that this scripture possesses power, benefiting rulers and people, Enabling them to be free from evil diseases and various evil afflictions, unharmed by Yakshas (a type of spirit) and others. If someone believes in and writes this scripture, offering it will generate immeasurable blessings, The wisdom of all beings will be like the Buddha's, and speaking of this blessing for many kalpas (an immense period of time) will not exhaust it. If someone, over countless kalpas, makes offerings to all Bodhisattvas (beings who aspire to achieve Buddhahood), It is not comparable to having temporary faith and writing even one word of this wonderful King of Scriptures. Comparing the previous merit to this blessing, the former is not even one part in a billion of the latter. Therefore, wise people should wholeheartedly practice this scripture without laziness.

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (the Bodhisattva of compassion) said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, in the future, if there are good men and good women who deeply revere and believe in this scripture, and offer exquisite incense, flowers, various foods, clothing, and bedding to the teacher who expounds the Dharma, as well as to those who write and recite this scripture, these people will surely obtain immeasurable benefits in this life, benefiting themselves and being free from various illnesses and sufferings. Their six sense organs, such as the eyes, will be pure and free from affliction. They will not encounter calamities such as water, fire, or famine, nor will they be harmed by any venomous substances. All sentient beings will rejoice upon seeing them. At the time of death, they will see Akshobhya Buddha (the Buddha of unwavering resolve) coming to comfort them, saying: 'Good man, you have cultivated good roots, and your blessings are immeasurable. You may be reborn at will in the pure lands of the ten directions, including the Land of Ultimate Bliss (Sukhavati, the pure land of Amitabha Buddha).'

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, excellent, excellent, World Honored One! For the sake of compassion for all beings in Jambudvipa (the continent where we live), you have spoken this scripture. In the future, it will widely perform Buddha-deeds, benefiting sentient beings. This great bright mantra can eliminate all extremely heavy karmic obstacles.' The Buddha said: 'Good man, beings with evil karma have deep and heavy sins. They do not hear this scripture, nor can they write, uphold, recite, or chant it. If there are beings who hear this scripture, write, uphold, respect, and offer it, know that this is all due to the majestic spiritual power of the Buddha. Furthermore, if someone can speak even one word of this scripture for others, offering this scripture'


人與佛無異。何以故善男子。此經乃是過去七千諸佛之所宣說。一切菩薩悉皆隨喜。諸天擁護是菩薩母。

爾時執金剛菩薩。白佛言世尊。此之經典于未來世。當於何處具足流通。佛言善男子。此經當於海龍王宮及三十三天皆具足有。贍部洲中但有少分隨處流通。佛言善男子。我今以此經典付囑于汝。應當受持供養擁護與佛無異。在處流通勿令斷絕。利益眾生廣為佛事。執金剛菩薩白佛言。世尊我今受佛教敕流佈此經。亦復護彼持經法師。佛言善哉善哉善男子。此實是汝所作之事。

複次觀自在菩薩。白佛言世尊。我今至誠敬禮如是微妙經典。于說法者及書寫人悉皆供養。世尊若有薄福之國無道君王。設有此經不能供養。及以法師此經隱沒。彼國當有災難惡事禍變現前。如是當知正法欲滅。智者見已殷心供養。佛言善哉善哉善男子如汝所說。假使有人滿足千歲。以種種樂具。供養諸大菩薩及聲聞眾數若恒河沙。復以七寶同此沙數而為佈施后舍自身。善男子如是之福比于供養持經之福。乃至一句一字百千萬分彼不及一。何況盡能書寫讀誦。何以故此經及咒有大威力。若受持者了身無堅。如幻如夢知法無我。蒙佛授記得大菩提。

爾時大眾一切菩薩。及天龍藥叉阿蘇羅揭路茶人非人等。皆共一心同聲贊

Suppose someone spends a thousand years using various musical instruments to make offerings to the great Bodhisattvas (Mahāsattva) and Śrāvaka (Śrāvaka) assemblies, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and also uses seven treasures as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River for almsgiving, and finally gives up their own body. Good son, the merit of that is not even one hundred millionth of the merit of venerating and upholding this sutra, even just one phrase or one word. How much more so for those who can completely write, recite, and read it? Why is that? Because this sutra and mantra have great power. If those who uphold it realize that the body has no solid nature, like a phantom or a dream, and know that the Dharma has no self, they will receive the Buddha's prediction and attain great Bodhi (Mahābodhi).' At that time, the great assembly, all the Bodhisattvas, as well as Devas (Deva), Nāgas (Nāga), Yakṣas (Yakṣa), Asuras (Asura), Garudas (Garuda), Manussas (Manussa), Amanussas (Amanussa), and others, all with one mind and voice, praised.


佛善哉善哉。此是第二轉大法輪。我等悉皆恭敬供養。此經所在國土城邑。亦當擁護並說法者。若有眾生謗此經者。現身獲得無量重罪。命終之後當墮地獄。我舍是人不為擁護。佛言善男子。我今亦以經典付囑于汝。當來之世廣為宣揚勿令斷滅。此經有大利益安樂人天。增長福田離三惡趣。勿生疑惑常勸受持。佛說此經時。六萬四千人。皆得無生法忍。

觀自在菩薩復白佛言。世尊若有眾生。信心書寫受持讀誦供養此經者。此人命終當生何處得幾所福。佛言善男子。汝能問此殊勝福事。此人命終永離惡趣常生凈土。假使有人行菩薩行。舍頭目手足及以妻子。亦復不如持此經典。此經在處其地方所。則為是塔皆應供養。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本:佛說:『好啊,好啊!這是第二次轉大法輪。我們都應當恭敬供養。此經所在的國土城邑,也應當擁護並保護說法的人。若有眾生誹謗此經,現世就會獲得無量的重罪,命終之後應當墮入地獄。我將捨棄這個人,不為他提供任何保護。』佛說:『善男子,我現在也將這部經典託付給你,在未來的世代廣泛宣揚,不要讓它斷絕。這部經有很大的利益,能使人天安樂,增長福田,遠離三惡趣。不要產生疑惑,要常常勸人受持。』佛說這部經的時候,六萬四千人都獲得了無生法忍(證悟真理,不再輪迴)。

觀自在菩薩(Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva)又對佛說:『世尊,若有眾生,有信心書寫、受持、讀誦、供養這部經,這個人命終之後應當生到哪裡?能得到多少福報?』佛說:『善男子,你能夠問到這樣殊勝的福報之事。這個人命終之後,永遠脫離惡趣,常生於清凈的國土。假使有人行菩薩道,捨棄頭目手足以及妻子,也不如受持這部經典。這部經所在的地方,就是佛塔,都應當供養。』

【English Translation】 English version: The Buddha said, 'Excellent, excellent! This is the second turning of the great Dharma wheel. We should all respectfully make offerings. The country and cities where this sutra is located should also protect and support those who preach it. If there are beings who slander this sutra, they will receive immeasurable heavy sins in their present lives and will fall into hell after death. I will abandon these people and not provide them with any protection.' The Buddha said, 'Good man, I now entrust this sutra to you as well, to widely proclaim it in future generations and not let it be cut off. This sutra has great benefits, bringing peace and happiness to humans and devas (gods), increasing fields of merit, and keeping one away from the three evil realms. Do not have doubts, and always encourage others to receive and uphold it.' When the Buddha spoke this sutra, sixty-four thousand people all attained the Kshanti (patience, acceptance) of the non-arising of dharmas (phenomena).

Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (The Bodhisattva who perceives the Sounds of the World) then said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, if there are beings who, with faith, write, receive, uphold, recite, and make offerings to this sutra, where will these people be born after death? How much merit will they obtain?' The Buddha said, 'Good man, you are able to ask about such a supremely meritorious matter. After death, these people will forever be separated from the evil realms and will always be born in pure lands. Even if someone practices the Bodhisattva path, giving up their head, eyes, hands, feet, and even their wives and children, it is still not as good as upholding this sutra. Wherever this sutra is located, that place is a stupa (a mound-like or hemispherical structure containing relics), and all should make offerings.'

Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva then said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, in future generations, for those who uphold this sutra, I will bestow predictions of their future Buddhahood. It can eliminate the extremely heavy karmic obstacles of the five rebellious acts (matricide, patricide, killing an Arhat, injuring a Buddha, and creating schism in the Sangha), and they will constantly enjoy wealth and honor for ninety thousand kalpas (an aeon, or a very long period of time), and will be a Chakravartin King (an ideal universal ruler) for eighty thousand kalpas.' The Buddha said, 'So it is, so it is, good man. I recall in the past, countless kalpas ago, there was a Buddha, named Immeasurable Merit Dharma Wisdom Pure Constellation King Tathagata (Buddha). At that time, I was a Brahmin (a member of the highest Hindu caste), and I heard this sutra from that Buddha, received, upheld, and recited it, and obtained the purity of the Dharma Eye (the pure eye of wisdom). Those who listened together from then on have not fallen into the evil realms and will gradually attain Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi (unsurpassed, complete and perfect enlightenment). Good man, in countless vast kalpas, for the sake of this Dharma, I gave up all kinds of wealth, head, eyes, hands, feet, wives, children, and cities, cultivated pure Brahma-conduct (pure conduct), without regret or vexation. You should also cultivate in this way.' At that time, the assembly, hearing the Buddha speak of past ascetic practices, all wept and said to the Buddha, 'Rare is it, World Honored One! In future generations,'


。有能受持讀誦供養此經典者。得無量福。若有苾芻苾芻尼鄔波索迦鄔波斯迦等。於此經王不能讀誦。陀羅尼咒不肯受持。亦復不能勤修六度。于苦惱者無憐愍心。如是之人于無量劫。墮生死海受諸苦惱。善男子譬如婦人身懷重孕乃至十月。時此婦人加諸病苦。支節痠疼猶如刀解不能飲食。欲產之時受大劇苦作如是念。我若免難永不淫慾常修梵行。才產之後還行惡法。便忘先時苦切之患。善男子當來之世愚癡眾生亦復如是。不信此經亦不讀誦佈施持戒忍辱精進修定修慧。貪著俗情樂世間事。不行三業清凈之因。此等眾生墮地獄已始生悔心。如懷孕婦人身遭極苦。受苦惱已從地獄出。既得人身耽五欲樂。其地獄苦不能記念還造惡業。善男子譬如有人多飲藥酒。飲已昏迷不知家處。佛法僧寶父母妻子。曾不憶念無恭敬心。由昏醉故遂往尸林險難之處。亦無怖畏惶懼之心。作如是念。豈有天龍藥叉之類能怖於我。如是醉人雖於此時。委臥荊棘便生樂想。醉醒之後必懷迫悔。自知非法言我從今乃至命盡。更不飲酒作眾過失。后遇惡緣還復耽飲同前造過。愚癡有情亦復如是。由貪染故多蓄珍財。作諸憍逸不念三寶。棄背尊親亦不修行施戒忍等。不欲希求凈佛國土。此等有情常處生死無涯海中。當墮地獄長受眾苦。設得為人處胎之

If there are bhiksus (bhiksu, monks), bhiksunis (bhiksuni, nuns), upasakas (upasaka, male lay devotees), upasikas (upasika, female lay devotees), etc., who cannot read and recite this King of Sutras, are unwilling to uphold the dharani mantras, and are also unable to diligently cultivate the Six Perfections (paramita, generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom), and have no compassion for those who are suffering, such people will, for immeasurable kalpas, fall into the sea of birth and death and suffer all kinds of afflictions.』 『Good man, it is like a woman who is heavily pregnant, even until the tenth month. At this time, this woman experiences various illnesses, her limbs ache as if they are being cut by knives, and she cannot eat or drink. When she is about to give birth, she suffers great pain and thinks like this: If I can avoid a difficult birth, I will never engage in sexual activity and will always cultivate pure conduct. But after giving birth, she returns to practicing evil deeds and forgets the suffering she endured earlier.』 『Good man, foolish beings in the future will also be like this. They do not believe in this scripture, nor do they read, recite, practice generosity, uphold precepts, practice patience, exert diligence, cultivate concentration, or cultivate wisdom. They are attached to worldly emotions, enjoy worldly affairs, and do not practice the pure causes of the three karmas (body, speech, and mind). These beings only begin to regret after falling into hell, just like a pregnant woman who suffers extreme pain. After suffering, they emerge from hell. Having obtained a human body, they indulge in the pleasures of the five desires, and cannot remember the suffering of hell, and return to creating evil karma.』 『Good man, it is like someone who drinks a lot of medicinal wine. After drinking, they become confused and do not know where their home is. They do not remember the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha (Three Jewels), parents, or spouse, and have no respect. Because of their intoxication, they go to dangerous places like corpse forests, and have no fear or trepidation. They think like this: Could there be nagas (naga, serpent deities), yakshas (yaksa, a type of spirit), or other beings who can frighten me?』 Even in this state, the drunken person lies down among thorns and feels happy. After sobering up, they will surely feel remorse, knowing that they have acted unlawfully, and say, 『From now until the end of my life, I will no longer drink alcohol or commit various transgressions.』 Later, when encountering evil conditions, they relapse into drinking and repeat the same mistakes as before. Foolish sentient beings are also like this. Because of greed and attachment, they accumulate vast amounts of precious wealth, engage in various arrogant and unrestrained behaviors, do not remember the Three Jewels, abandon and turn away from respected elders and relatives, and do not cultivate generosity, morality, patience, etc. They do not desire to seek a pure Buddha land. These sentient beings are constantly in the endless sea of birth and death, and should fall into hell and endure various sufferings for a long time. Even if they obtain a human body, being in the womb』


時。受眾苦惱被苦逼身。便作是念我若得免此厄難者。更不作罪受斯極苦。恒修善業愿生凈土。彼得人身由愚癡故。作眾罪業還墮惡道。是故汝等當善修行勿為放逸是我要略之所教誡。

【English Translation】 English version: At that time, sentient beings suffering from painful bodies would think: 'If I could be free from these calamities and no longer commit sins to endure such extreme suffering, I would constantly cultivate good deeds and wish to be reborn in the Pure Land.' However, after obtaining a human body, due to their ignorance, they commit various sins again and eventually fall into evil realms. Therefore, you should cultivate well and not be lax or negligent; this is the essence of what I teach you. Then, the Venerable Ānanda (Ānanda, one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha, known for his exceptional memory) said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, what should this sutra be called? How should we uphold it?' The Buddha said: 'This sutra has five names: the first name is 'Saving All Beings from Suffering and Calamities,' the second name is 'The Real Questions of the Bodhisattva,' the third name is 'The King Adorned with Supernatural Powers,' the fourth name is 'That Which Accomplishes the Perfect Enlightenment of All Buddhas,' and the fifth name is 'The King Adorned with the Merits of All Dharmas.'
