如是我聞。一時世尊。在迦毗羅城無憂樹園。與阿難陀等大比丘眾。及慈氏菩薩摩訶薩俱會一處。是時復有天眾龍眾夜叉眾。羅剎眾阿修羅眾。迦樓羅眾乾闥婆眾。緊曩羅眾毗舍遮眾。畢哩多眾鳩槃茶眾。布單曩眾執魅眾。二十八大藥叉軍主眾。四大藥叉軍主眾。一切星曜眾。乃至雪山苦行諸仙眾。如是等眾皆來集會。
復有他方一切羅剎等眾。所謂護迦你隸布寫那哩枳吒迦啰拏穌摩娜摩賀賀哩摩怛哩眾。如是等眾亦來集會。
復有四方四大羅剎。所謂東方賀哩羅剎。南方虞拏羅剎。西方枳設哩羅剎。北方摩尼袒哆羅剎。此四羅剎性極暴惡。各有六十眷屬。是等羅剎亦來在會。
爾時凈飯王宮羅睺羅童子。于夜臥時為惡羅剎而來嬈亂。數數驚怖不得安隱。時羅睺羅母耶輸陀羅及諸眷屬。悉知世尊與諸聖眾。在無憂樹園去宮城不遠。于夜後分令羅睺羅。與眾童子及諸侍人。前後導從往詣佛所。時羅睺羅童子至佛會已頂禮佛足。獨于佛前涕泣而住。
爾時世尊告阿難言。阿難汝見羅睺羅童子。

如是我聞。一時,世尊在迦毗羅城(Kapilavastu)無憂樹園。與阿難陀(Ananda)等大比丘眾,及慈氏菩薩(Maitreya Bodhisattva)摩訶薩俱會一處。是時復有天眾、龍眾、夜叉(Yaksa)眾、羅剎(Rakshasa)眾、阿修羅(Asura)眾、迦樓羅(Garuda)眾、乾闥婆(Gandharva)眾、緊曩羅(Kinnara)眾、毗舍遮(Pisaca)眾、畢哩多(Preta)眾、鳩槃茶(Kumbhanda)眾、布單曩(Putana)眾、執魅眾、二十八大藥叉軍主眾、四大藥叉軍主眾、一切星曜眾,乃至雪山苦行諸仙眾,如是等眾皆來**。
復有他方一切羅剎等眾,所謂護迦你隸(Hukani)布寫那哩(Pucanari)枳吒迦啰拏(Krtakarana)穌摩娜摩賀賀哩摩怛哩(Sumanamahaharimatari)眾,如是等眾亦來**。
復有四方四大羅剎,所謂東方賀哩羅剎(Harirakshasa),南方虞拏羅剎(Gunarakshasa),西方枳設哩羅剎(Kisalarakshasa),北方摩尼袒哆羅剎(Manitantarakshasa)。此四羅剎性極暴惡,各有六十眷屬。是等羅剎亦來在會。
爾時,凈飯王(Suddhodana)宮羅睺羅(Rahula)童子,于夜臥時為惡羅剎而來嬈亂,數數驚怖不得安隱。時羅睺羅母耶輸陀羅(Yasodhara)及諸眷屬,悉知世尊與諸聖眾在無憂樹園,去宮城不遠,于夜後分令羅睺羅與眾童子及諸侍人,前後導從往詣佛所。時羅睺羅童子至佛會已,頂禮佛足,獨于佛前涕泣而住。
爾時,世尊告阿難言:『阿難,汝見羅睺羅童子?』

The Holy Adornment Dharani Sutra Spoken by the Buddha, Volume 1
Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shi Hu, Minister of the Honglu Temple and Great Master of Spreading the Dharma, under Imperial Decree, from the Western Regions
Thus have I heard. At one time, the World Honored One was in the Garden of Sorrowless Trees in Kapilavastu (Kapilavastu). He was assembled together with a great gathering of Bhikshus, including Ananda (Ananda), and the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya (Maitreya Bodhisattva). At that time, there were also assembled gods, dragons, Yakshas (Yaksa), Rakshasas (Rakshasa), Asuras (Asura), Garudas (Garuda), Gandharvas (Gandharva), Kinnaras (Kinnara), Pisacas (Pisaca), Pretas (Preta), Kumbhandas (Kumbhanda), Putanas (Putana), those who seize and bewitch, the twenty-eight great Yaksha generals, the four great Yaksha generals, all the constellations, and even the ascetics and immortals practicing austerities in the Snowy Mountains. Such beings all came to the assembly.
Furthermore, there were Rakshasas and other beings from other realms, namely Hukani (Hukani), Pucanari (Pucanari), Krtakarana (Krtakarana), Sumanamahaharimatari (Sumanamahaharimatari), and others. Such beings also came to the assembly.
Furthermore, there were the four great Rakshasas of the four directions, namely the Rakshasa Hari (Harirakshasa) of the East, the Rakshasa Guna (Gunarakshasa) of the South, the Rakshasa Kisala (Kisalarakshasa) of the West, and the Rakshasa Manitantara (Manitantarakshasa) of the North. These four Rakshasas were extremely violent and wicked, each with sixty attendants. These Rakshasas also came to the assembly.
At that time, the prince Rahula (Rahula) of King Suddhodana's (Suddhodana) palace was disturbed and harassed by evil Rakshasas while sleeping at night, and was repeatedly frightened and unable to find peace. Yasodhara (Yasodhara), the mother of Rahula, and all her relatives knew that the World Honored One and the holy assembly were in the Garden of Sorrowless Trees, not far from the palace city. In the latter part of the night, she instructed Rahula to go to the Buddha's place, accompanied by other children and attendants, leading and following him. When Rahula arrived at the Buddha's assembly, he prostrated himself at the Buddha's feet and stood before the Buddha, weeping.
At that time, the World Honored One said to Ananda: 'Ananda, do you see the prince Rahula?'
來詣我所涕泣已否。阿難言唯然已見。佛言阿難。羅睺羅童子于夜臥時。為惡羅剎及種種鬼神。而來嬈亂不得安隱。故來我所而求擁護。阿難非獨今日羅睺羅童子。彼此嬈亂不得安隱。我滅度后末世之時。一切眾生福力微劣。于不善業增益熾盛。由是諸惡羅剎。及鬼神等遊行世間。恒與眾生作不饒益。種種嬈亂使無安隱。我觀是事深可憐愍。阿難我今為擁護羅睺羅童子。及愍念未來眾生。說大莊嚴陀羅尼。汝當諦聽。是時阿難及會大眾。咸各默然愿佛宣說。
爾時世尊即說大莊嚴陀羅尼曰。

阿難此大莊嚴陀羅尼。乃是過去諸佛之所宣說

阿難,這個大莊嚴陀羅尼,乃是過去諸佛所宣說的。
【English Translation】 English version: Has he come to me weeping? Ānanda (Buddha's disciple) replied, 'Yes, I have seen him.' The Buddha said, 'Ānanda, the boy Rāhula (Buddha's son) is disturbed and cannot find peace when he sleeps at night because evil rākṣasas (demons) and various ghosts and spirits come to harass him. That is why he comes to me seeking protection. Ānanda, it is not only Rāhula who is disturbed and cannot find peace today. After my parinirvana (death), in the future age, all sentient beings will have weak merit and will increase and intensify their non-virtuous actions. Because of this, various evil rākṣasas and ghosts and spirits will fill the world, constantly harming sentient beings, causing all kinds of disturbances, and preventing them from having peace. I see these things and feel deep compassion. Ānanda, I will now speak the Great Adornment Dhāraṇī to protect Rāhula and to have compassion for future sentient beings. You should listen carefully.' At that time, Ānanda and the assembly were all silent, hoping that the Buddha would speak.
Then, the World-Honored One spoke the Great Adornment Dhāraṇī, which is as follows:
Tadyathā gaṇi gara gaṇa pati gumi gara guma pati ṣpuri kāgariṇi gara pati sāra pati dhana pati sura pati āle panāle pati ma pati ā pati vā hu pati huro hara hili gara huru utiri pu hili oṃ cilicili pata paci ṭa ṭa ve hara oṃ rave mani sari huma ha hili huhu samanta sāsari asamanta sari pare kha sari ā varṇita mahā varṇite gaṇi mi khale hara svāhā
Ānanda, this Great Adornment Dhāraṇī was spoken by all the Buddhas of the past.
。我今為擁護羅睺羅童子。亦複利益末世眾生。今復宣說。阿難若有眾生。被諸羅剎及惡鬼神種種嬈亂者。當以此莊嚴陀羅尼書于紙素。作彼隨求戴于身臂。當令諸惡羅剎。乃至世間一切食膏血者。惡鬼神類不敢侵近悉皆奔走。四方四維十由旬外遠避而去。當令眾生得安隱樂。
阿難若有眾生。恒常讀誦此大莊嚴陀羅尼者。所有一切刀杖毒藥不能為害。乃至邪明咒術罥索繫縛。人及非人一切惡事悉皆解脫。乃至十由旬內。一切眾生皆蒙擁護。一切災沴咸皆殄滅。
阿難若有眾生。欲持念此大莊嚴陀羅尼擁護自身。及為饒益一切眾生者。先當擇取清凈勝地。預立幖幟。然自齋戒香水澡浴。當令身心內外清凈。以線結界香泥塗地作曼拏羅。于曼拏羅中備諸名花。涂香燒香然燈種種供養。面北端坐正念想佛世尊。來降曼拏羅已。然後奉獻種種供養。歸命讚歎。發堅固心勇猛不退。為欲饒益擁護諸眾生故。及求現前所作成就故。先當持誦結界莊嚴陀羅尼。警覺召請梵王帝釋及一切天龍夜叉羅剎諸鬼神等皆來集會。當令世間一切惱害眾生。諸惡夜叉羅剎部多等。聞此陀羅尼已。驚怖退散無諸障難得愿圓滿。即說結界陀羅尼曰。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本:我現在爲了擁護羅睺羅(Rāhula,佛陀的兒子)童子,也爲了利益末世的眾生,現在再次宣說。阿難(Ānanda,佛陀的十大弟子之一),如果有眾生被各種羅剎(Rakshasa,惡鬼)以及惡鬼神種種侵擾,應當將此莊嚴陀羅尼書寫在紙上,做成隨身佩戴的飾物戴在手臂上。這能使一切惡羅剎,乃至世間一切以膏血為食的惡鬼神類不敢靠近,全部奔走逃散,遠遠地避開到四方四維十由旬(Yojana,古印度長度單位)之外,使眾生得到安穩快樂。 阿難,如果有眾生,恒常讀誦此大莊嚴陀羅尼,所有一切刀杖毒藥都不能造成傷害,乃至邪惡的明咒術、罥索(一種捕捉工具)的束縛,人和非人的一切惡事都能解脫。乃至十由旬內的一切眾生都能蒙受擁護,一切災禍都能消滅。 阿難,如果有眾生,想要持念此大莊嚴陀羅尼來擁護自身,以及爲了饒益一切眾生,首先應當選擇清凈殊勝的地方,預先設立標誌。然後自己齋戒,用香水沐浴,使身心內外清凈。用線結界,用香泥塗地,製作曼拏羅(Mandala,壇場)。在曼拏羅中準備各種名貴的花,涂香、燒香、點燈種種供養。面向北方端坐,以正念憶念佛世尊,祈請佛世尊降臨曼拏羅。然後奉獻種種供養,歸命讚歎,發起堅固的心,勇猛不退,爲了饒益擁護諸眾生,以及求得現前所作之事成就,首先應當持誦結界莊嚴陀羅尼,警覺召請梵王(Brahmā,色界天之主)、帝釋(Indra,忉利天之主)以及一切天龍夜叉(Yaksa,一種鬼神)羅剎諸鬼神等都來集會。使世間一切惱害眾生的諸惡夜叉羅剎部多(Bhuta,鬼)等,聽到此陀羅尼后,驚怖退散,沒有各種障礙,願望圓滿。即說結界陀羅尼曰: 怛你也(二合引)他你隸你隸尾摩隸(引)怛摩隸(引)護唧護唧悉哩底哩怛哩
【English Translation】 English version: Now, for the sake of protecting the boy Rāhula (son of the Buddha), and also for the benefit of sentient beings in the future age, I will proclaim this again. Ānanda (one of the ten major disciples of the Buddha), if there are sentient beings who are disturbed by various Rakshasas (demons) and evil spirits, they should write this Great Adornment Dharani on paper and wear it on their arms as an amulet. This will cause all evil Rakshasas, and even all evil spirits in the world that feed on fat and blood, to not dare to approach, and they will all flee and run away, avoiding it from a distance of ten yojanas (an ancient Indian unit of distance) in all directions, thus enabling sentient beings to obtain peace and happiness. Ānanda, if there are sentient beings who constantly recite this Great Adornment Dharani, all swords, staves, poisons will not be able to harm them, and even evil bright mantra spells, snares, and bonds, all evil deeds of humans and non-humans will be liberated. Even all sentient beings within ten yojanas will be protected, and all calamities will be extinguished. Ānanda, if there are sentient beings who wish to uphold and recite this Great Adornment Dharani to protect themselves and to benefit all sentient beings, they should first choose a pure and auspicious place and set up markers in advance. Then they should fast and bathe with fragrant water, so that their body and mind are pure inside and out. They should use thread to create boundaries, use fragrant mud to paint the ground, and create a Mandala (sacred space). In the Mandala, they should prepare various precious flowers, incense, burning incense, lamps, and various offerings. They should sit facing north, with upright mindfulness, contemplating the World Honored One Buddha, inviting the World Honored One Buddha to descend upon the Mandala. Then they should offer various offerings, take refuge, praise, and generate a firm and courageous mind, without retreating, for the sake of benefiting and protecting all sentient beings, and for seeking the accomplishment of the tasks they are currently undertaking. First, they should uphold and recite the boundary-establishing Adornment Dharani, alerting and summoning Brahma (lord of the Form Realm), Indra (lord of the Trayastrimsa Heaven), and all the Nagas (dragons), Yakshas (a type of spirit), Rakshasas, and all the ghosts and spirits to gather. This will cause all the evil Yakshas, Rakshasas, Bhutas (ghosts), etc., in the world who harm sentient beings, to be frightened and scattered upon hearing this Dharani, without any obstacles, and their wishes will be fulfilled. Then the boundary-establishing Dharani is spoken: Tadyatha nili nili vimali tāmali huji huji silidhili tadili

【English Translation】 English version: (Two combined) Sa ni (elongated sound) ra pu sa he (elongated sound).
Ananda, if you recite this Boundary-Establishing Adornment Dharani, and then recite that Great Holy Adornment Dharani, everything you do will be accomplished.
At that time, Maitreya Bodhisattva Mahasattva rose from his seat and stood before the Buddha, saying, 'World Honored One, I also wish to protect Rāhula Kumāra, so that he may obtain peace and security. I also wish to benefit all sentient beings in the future, so that all those who are afflicted by various disturbances, and by the swords, staves, poisons of all evil people, and all evil spells, snares, and bonds, may be liberated from such things, and be peaceful and happy day and night. I will also speak an Adornment Dharani. May the World Honored One allow me to proclaim it.' The Buddha said, 'You may do as you wish.' At that time, Maitreya Bodhisattva then spoke the Adornment Dharani, which is:

At that time, the Great Brahma King (Mahābrahmā), the lord of the Sahā World, stepped forward and said to the Buddha, 'I also wish to protect Rāhula Kumāra, and to protect all sentient beings in the future, so I will speak a Adornment Mantra. May the Tathagata allow me to proclaim it.' The Buddha said, 'Excellent, excellent, you may do as you wish.' At that time, the Great Brahma King then spoke the Adornment Mantra, which is:

爾時世尊。知彼天眾龍眾夜叉等眾及諸鬼神。各各為欲擁護羅睺羅童子及未來眾生。皆悉欲說自明。佛言汝等天眾龍眾及諸鬼神等。欲說自明為擁護諸眾生者。隨汝等意各各說之。爾時善時分天。即于佛前說自明曰。

'Sanyati nanda panumi karati odhaya datsurana samirani tsubanti shanti yam svaha siddhaya nanda karomi mama sarva sattva shchaya vachimo mandam karomi svaha.'
At that time, all the Matr assembly (Matr, female deities/spirits), with one voice, spoke the Adornment Mantra, saying:
'Sanyati nanda kare make tare tamare shanti yam svaha siddhaya nanda karomi mama sarva sattvanam yava chema mandam karomi svaha.'
At that time, the four Rakshasas (Rakshasa, demons) from the four directions, with one voice, spoke the Adornment Mantra, saying:
'Sanyati nanda ani pani khaji khavaji kukurili pe parihara ri shanti svaha siddhaya nanda karomi mama sarva sattvanam chaya vachimo mandam karomi svaha.'
At that time, the Dramida Rakshasi (Dramiḍa Rakshasi, name of a Rakshasi), spoke the Adornment Mantra, saying:
'Sanyati nanda nanari nanari haha haha hihi hihi huhu huhu shiki kiki chiki chiki vimukhe makha jakha katha mithi anta anta tata rata tata kra.'

爾時娑婆世界主大梵天王。前白佛言世尊我等天眾龍眾夜叉眾。乃至捺啰彌帝如是等眾。悉於此時對世尊前。各說自明為欲擁護羅睺羅童子。不令一切惡鬼神類。侵近惱亂。得晝安隱得夜安隱。及一切時獲住快樂。
世尊我等所說自明。不唯擁護羅睺羅童子。亦與未來一切眾生而作擁護。世尊若有眾生。得聞我等如是諸明。當須志心憶念受持。當令彼等一切行不饒益種種之類或一由旬或二由旬或三四由旬乃至十由旬內。不敢侵近驚怖退散遠避而去。能令如是十由旬內。諸惡消滅疾沴不行。刀兵毒藥皆悉遠離。亦復不為一切天龍夜叉羅剎乾闥婆阿修羅迦樓羅緊曩羅摩睺羅伽等而為障礙。亦復不為一切部多非人之類而為障礙。
世尊如是等眾。若有違逆不隨順者。彼眾不容斥令離族。

At that time, the lord of the Saha World, the Great Brahma King (Mahābrahmā), stepped forward and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, we, the Devas, Nāgas, Yakshas, and even the Nādramite and other assemblies, are now before the World Honored One, each reciting our own mantras, in order to protect the boy Rāhula, preventing all evil ghosts and spirits from approaching and disturbing him, so that he may have peace during the day, peace during the night, and happiness at all times.'
'World Honored One, the mantras we recite not only protect the boy Rāhula, but also provide protection for all beings in the future. World Honored One, if there are beings who hear these mantras we recite, they should wholeheartedly remember and uphold them. This will cause all those beings who act unbeneficially, within one Yojana, two Yojanas, three or four Yojanas, or even ten Yojanas, to not dare to approach, to be terrified and scattered, and to avoid going far away. It can cause all evils within these ten Yojanas to be extinguished, diseases and calamities to not occur, and swords, weapons, and poisons to be kept far away. Furthermore, they will not be obstructed by all Devas, Nāgas, Yakshas, Rakshasas, Gandharvas, Asuras, Garudas, Kinnaras, Mahoragas, etc., nor will they be obstructed by all Bhūtas and non-human beings (Amanushya).'
'World Honored One, if there are any among these beings who disobey or do not comply with these mantras, may the World Honored One not tolerate them, rebuke them, and cause them to leave their communities.'
At that time, the World Honored One said to Ānanda: 'This Great Brahma King has spoken these truthful words before me, and I have already known them. 佛復謂阿難言。佛真實法真實僧真實。天真實仙真實。如是五者不可違逆。阿難如我所說汝善受持。使于未來流行世間。與諸眾生為大饒益。佛說是經已時。羅睺羅童子得聞世尊說大莊嚴陀羅尼。及承一切明而擁護故。不離是會得安隱樂。心意快然歡喜踴躍。以頭著地禮如來足。與諸侍人還復王宮。慈氏菩薩阿難陀。乃至天龍夜叉及一切人非人等。聞佛所說歡喜信受禮佛而退。

【English Translation】 English version: Beings are attached and bound by various afflictions and disturbances. Whether on the ground, in the sky, on the mountainside, or on the mountaintop, and in all places, they are all destroyed by the majestic power of my Ārya-alaṃkāra-dhāraṇī (Holy Adornment Dharani), and cannot harm sentient beings. The Buddha then said to Ānanda: 'The Buddha's true Dharma, the true Saṃgha (community), the true Devas (gods), and the true Ṛṣis (sages) – these five are irreversible. Ānanda, you should receive and uphold well what I have said, so that it may circulate in the world in the future and bring great benefit to all beings.'
