如是我聞。一時佛在釋種住處迦毗羅城尼拘律陀樹園。與大眾俱。是時羅睺羅童子居止異處。于夜分中忽為大惡羅剎所怖。時羅睺羅即於是夜。與諸童子眾前後圍繞。出迦毗羅城往詣佛所。到已頭面禮佛雙足。乃于佛前涕泣而住。

爾時世尊知是事已。即告尊者阿難言。阿難當知我有大明。名曰寶帶有大功德。能為羅睺羅童子而作擁護。我今宣說汝當受持。而此大明若諸天眾龍眾。夜叉眾羅剎眾。阿修羅眾迦樓羅眾。乾闥婆眾緊那羅眾。必舍左眾必隸多眾。鳩盤茶眾布單那眾。羯吒布單那眾諸宿曜眾。二十八大夜叉將。四大夜叉主四大天王。諸離欲仙眾雪山住者。乃至十方一切諸部多眾並羅剎女眾。迦你里布寫那哩計吒羯蘭拏蘇摩那摩賀訶哩等諸母鬼眾。三母訥誐彌羯臘波大羅剎。及東方訶哩大羅剎女。南方虞拏西大羅剎女。西方計舍哩大羅剎女。北方珠髻大羅剎女。此四大羅剎女各與六十眷屬俱。如是等眾若聞宣說寶帶大明。於一切處能為一切眾生而作擁護。

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks of the Jewel Belt Dharani Sutra

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shi Hu, Great Master of Spreading the Dharma, Minister of the Court with Honors, Acting Vice President of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, under Imperial Decree, from the Western Regions.

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Nigrodha Park in Kapilavastu (Kapilavastu), the place where the Shakya clan resided. He was with a great assembly. At that time, the boy Rahula (Rahula) was staying elsewhere, and in the middle of the night, he was suddenly frightened by a great evil Rakshasa (Rakshasa). That very night, Rahula, surrounded by many boys, left Kapilavastu and went to where the Buddha was. Having arrived, he bowed his head to the Buddha's feet and stood before the Buddha weeping.

At that time, the World Honored One, knowing this matter, said to the Venerable Ananda (Ananda): 'Ananda, you should know that I have a great mantra called the Jewel Belt, which has great merit and virtue, and can protect the boy Rahula. I will now proclaim it, and you should receive and uphold it. This great mantra, whether it be the assembly of Devas (Devas), the assembly of Nagas (Nagas), the assembly of Yakshas (Yakshas), the assembly of Rakshasas (Rakshasas), the assembly of Asuras (Asuras), the assembly of Garudas (Garudas), the assembly of Gandharvas (Gandharvas), the assembly of Kinnaras (Kinnaras), the assembly of Pisacas (Pisacas), the assembly of Pretas (Pretas), the assembly of Kumbhandas (Kumbhandas), the assembly of Putanas (Putanas), the assembly of Katakapatanas (Katakaputanas), the assembly of all constellations, the twenty-eight great Yaksha generals, the four great Yaksha lords, the four great heavenly kings, all the immortals who are free from desire, those who dwell in the snowy mountains, and even all the assemblies of Bhutas (Bhutas) in the ten directions, as well as the assemblies of Rakshasa women, the assemblies of mother ghosts such as Kani Lipushana Riketa Karana Sumana Mahahari, the three mothers Nadgamika Lapaba great Rakshasa, and the eastern Hari great Rakshasa woman, the southern Gunaxi great Rakshasa woman, the western Kesari great Rakshasa woman, the northern Jewel-Crested great Rakshasa woman, these four great Rakshasa women each with sixty attendants. The Buddha said to Ananda, 'This Great Brightness of the Jeweled Belt that I proclaim has great merit. If there are those who hold this mantra, then whatever they seek will be fulfilled. All the hosts of Vidyadharas (Vidya-dhara, knowledge holders), the hosts of Bhutas (Bhuta, spirits), the hosts of Vetalas (Vetala, vampires), the hosts of powerful deities, and those ascetics with supernatural powers and diligence, will not be able to create obstacles for those who hold the mantra. Ananda, you should know that this Great Brightness of the Jeweled Belt is proclaimed jointly by all the Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, universally for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, and even secretly provides protection in all places. Ananda, all those great evil and untamable people on the earth, those with majestic radiance, those who commit extremely evil deeds, in whatever direction, in whatever corner, and even in any place, when they hear this Great Brightness of the Jeweled Belt, they will all be greatly terrified. Moreover, this Great Brightness, within a radius of ten yojanas (Yojana, ancient Indian unit of distance), can provide protection for all sentient beings, rescue them from all kinds of difficult situations, and receive, guard, and remember them, causing them to...'


眾生息災安樂。不為杖打不為刀傷不為毒中。一切惡毒自然消滅。惡友遠離一切惡者。作禁縛事自然解脫。若人及非人。欲於一切眾生作惱害者。應當依法建立壇場。以諸香華供養如來。依法結界沐浴清凈。誦是寶帶大明。彼諸惡者自然攝伏不能為害。乃至一切病苦亦得息除。復說大明曰。

爾時慈氏菩薩摩訶薩。白佛言世尊。我亦為羅睺羅童子及一切眾生。作擁護法救諸難事。攝持護念息災安樂。刀杖諸毒不能為害。惡友禁縛自然遠離。以是利益故隨喜宣說寶帶大明曰。

【English Translation】 English version: May all beings be free from suffering and enjoy happiness. May they not be harmed by sticks or swords, nor poisoned. May all evil poisons naturally disappear. May evil friends be kept at bay, and may all bonds be naturally released. If any human or non-human being intends to cause harm to all living beings, a mandala should be established according to the Dharma, and offerings of various incense and flowers should be made to the Tathagata (如來, Thus Gone One). After consecrating the boundaries according to the Dharma, and purifying oneself through bathing, one should recite this Great Bright Mantra of the Jewel Belt. Those evil beings will naturally be subdued and unable to cause harm, and even all suffering from illness will be eliminated. The Buddha then spoke the Great Bright Mantra: 'Tadyatha nǐ yě tā ni ni wěi mó lí duō mó lí hǔ jī hǔ jī xī lī dǐ lī sà lí rā' Furthermore, Ananda (阿難, one of the principal disciples of the Buddha), this Great Bright Mantra has great merit. When this Great Bright Mantra is spoken, if the hosts of ghosts hear it, they will be terrified and tremble; if the hosts of gods hear it, they will all come and gather; if the Dragon Kings or the Kings of the Bhutas hear it, they will also all come and gather; if Brahma (梵天王, the creator god), Indra (帝釋天, the king of the gods), Maheshvara (大自在天, the great sovereign god), the Devas of Kumara, and others hear this Great Bright Mantra, they will all come together from different places, praising and rejoicing in the Great Bright Mantra of the Jewel Belt. 爾時,四方四大羅剎女(Rakshasi,羅剎女),也隨喜宣說寶帶大明咒,內容如下:

薩拽替唐(Satyatitaṃ),阿泥播泥(Anipani),渴𡁠(Khadye),渴嚩𡁠(Khadve),枯枯哩(Kukuri)。

【English Translation】 English version: The many Kumbhanda (a type of Yaksha, meaning pot-shaped ghost) will surely abandon the left path, and also joyfully proclaim the Great Bright Mantra of the Treasure Belt, which is as follows:

Satyatitaṃ, Vibhuti, Samvarthanavibhuti, Shanti Svastyayana, Mama sarva sattvanam ca, Yavasimamam tang karomi svaha.

At that time, the Putana (foul hungry ghost) and Kataputana (extremely foul hungry ghost) assembly also joyfully proclaimed the Great Bright Mantra of the Treasure Belt, which is as follows:

Satyatitaṃ, Padme, Karani, Uddeta, Culanāsamirani, Cucuupati, Shanti Svastyayanakaromi, Mama sarva sattva sica, Yavasimamam tang karomi svaha.

At that time, the assembly of mother ghosts also joyfully proclaimed the Great Bright Mantra of the Treasure Belt, which is as follows:

At that time, the four great Rakshasi (female Rakshasa) of the four directions also joyfully proclaimed the Great Bright Mantra of the Treasure Belt, which is as follows:

At that time, in the assembly, there was a great Rakshasi (Rākṣasī, female demon) named Rāmiṇā. She also rejoiced and proclaimed the Great Brightness Mantra of the Jewel Belt, saying:

Then, after the Rakshasi spoke this Great Brightness Mantra, she came forward and said to the Buddha: 'This Great Brightness Mantra of the Jewel Belt that I have spoken is the Great Brightness Mantra of the retinue, and it can well provide protection for all sentient beings.'


息災安樂。刀杖惡毒不能侵害。一切惡友自然遠離。過一由旬二由旬乃至十二由旬。若天若龍若夜叉若羅剎。若乾闥婆若阿修羅。若迦樓羅若緊那羅。若摩睺羅伽若鳩盤茶。若必舍左若必隸多。若布單那若羯吒布單那。若塞健馱若阿波三摩啰。若吠多拏。若一日瘧若二日瘧。乃至人非人等。伺求其便欲惱害者皆不得便。若得便者無有是處。除宿業障不可制止。又此大明能令一切眾生。於一切處息一切怖。遠離一切嬈亂等事。

爾時世尊告尊者阿難言。如我所說寶帶大明。及此羅剎女等所說諸寶帶大明眷屬明句。有大功德汝當受持宣通流佈。又此大明亦能禁止諸惡風云。若持是明者善自作護復能護他。若城邑聚落乃至一切處悉能擁護。又此大明於一切天龍鬼神。乃至沙門婆羅門外道梵志。尼乾陀等中。若有惡毒心者不調伏者。作惱害者不吉祥者。悉能調伏不為惱害。乃至一切大惡宿曜悉能制止。

又復阿難寶帶大明最上最勝。所有沙門婆羅門。外道梵志尼乾陀。及梵王帝釋四大天王。欲自在天日月星宿天龍鬼神夜叉羅剎人與非人。山峰住者山下住者。虛空住者。乃至隨一切處住者。諸部多等。彼彼所有一切咒句。此悉能斷不為他咒之所斷故。

又復阿難寶帶大明。善作擁護善救善攝。能與眾生息災安

You should receive, uphold, proclaim, and circulate them. Moreover, this great Dharani can also restrain all evil winds and clouds. If those who hold this Dharani can protect themselves well, they can also protect others. Whether it be cities, villages, or even all places, it can protect them. Moreover, this great Dharani, towards all Devas, Nāgas, ghosts, and spirits, even Śrāmaṇas (Śrāmaṇa, wandering ascetics), Brāhmaṇas (Brāhmaṇa, priests), Tīrthikas (Tīrthika, non-Buddhist ascetics), Nirgranthas (Nirgrantha, Jain ascetics), etc., if there are those with malicious hearts, who are not tamed, who cause harm, who bring misfortune, it can tame them, so they cannot cause harm. Even all great evil constellations can be restrained.

'Furthermore, Ānanda, the Jewel Belt Great Dharani is the most supreme and most victorious. All Śrāmaṇas, Brāhmaṇas, Tīrthikas, Nirgranthas, as well as Brahmā (Brahmā, lord of the Form Realm), Indra (Indra, lord of the Trayastrimsa Heaven), the Four Great Kings (Caturmahārājakayikas, the Four Heavenly Kings who protect the world), Paranirmitavasavartin (Paranirmitavasavartin, the sixth heaven of the Desire Realm), the sun, moon, stars, Devas, Nāgas, ghosts, spirits, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, humans and non-humans, those who dwell on mountain peaks, those who dwell at the foot of mountains, those who dwell in the sky, even those who dwell in all places, all the Bhūtas (Bhūta, spirits), all their mantras, this Jewel Belt Great Dharani can cut them off, and it will not be cut off by other mantras.

'Furthermore, Ānanda, the Jewel Belt Great Dharani can protect well, rescue well, gather well, and can bring beings the pacification of calamities and happiness.'


樂。刀杖惡毒不能侵害。一切惡友自然遠離。過一由旬二由旬。乃至十二由旬。

又復阿難我不見彼一切世間天人魔梵等。有違越此寶帶大明者。若違越者無有是處。何以故阿難當知一切佛真實法真實僧真實實語真實一切哩尸眾真實。是故於此秘密法門無違越者。阿難此五種真實不可違越。佛真實不可違越。法真實不可違越。僧真實不可違越。實語真實不可違越。哩尸眾真實不可違越。是故阿難此寶帶大明。若有受持者。得離一切病。解脫一切縛。息除一切惡。得大安樂最上吉祥。

佛說此經已。羅睺羅童子得離怖畏。阿難等諸大眾。聞佛所說皆大歡喜信受奉行。

【English Translation】 English version: Happiness. Swords, staffs, and malicious harm cannot infringe upon them. All evil friends naturally stay away, even beyond one Yojana (Yojana, an ancient Indian unit of distance, approximately 11-16 kilometers), two Yojanas, or even twelve Yojanas.

Furthermore, Ananda (Ananda, one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), I have not seen any beings in all the worlds, including Devas (Deva, gods), Maras (Mara, demons), or Brahmas (Brahma, Brahma), who can transgress this great bright mantra of the Jewel Belt. If anyone could transgress it, it is impossible. Why is that, Ananda? You should know that the truth of all Buddhas (Buddha, the awakened one), the truth of the Dharma (Dharma, the teachings of the Buddha), the truth of the Sangha (Sangha, the monastic community), the truth of truthful speech, and the truth of all Rishis (Rishi, Hindu sages) are absolute. Therefore, no one can transgress this secret Dharma gate. Ananda, these five truths are inviolable: the truth of the Buddha is inviolable, the truth of the Dharma is inviolable, the truth of the Sangha is inviolable, the truth of truthful speech is inviolable, and the truth of the Rishis is inviolable. Therefore, Ananda, if anyone upholds this great bright mantra of the Jewel Belt, they will be free from all illnesses, liberated from all bonds, pacify all evils, and attain great happiness and supreme auspiciousness.

After the Buddha finished speaking this Sutra, the boy Rahula (Rahula, the Buddha's son) was freed from fear. All the assembly, including Ananda, hearing what the Buddha had said, were greatly delighted, believed, accepted, and practiced it respectfully.
