爾時世尊告阿難言。有陀羅尼名宿命智。若有眾生聞是陀羅尼。能志心受持者。所有千劫之中極重罪業皆悉消滅。若能終身不間斷者。是人於七俱胝生常知宿命。即說陀羅尼曰。
那謨(引)啰怛那(二合)室詰泥(去聲呼下同一)怛他(引)誐多(引)野(二)阿啰曷(二合)帝(引)三藐訖三(二合)沒馱(引)野(三)怛[寧*也]他(引四)唵(引)啰怛泥(二合)啰怛泥(二合五)蘇啰怛泥(二合六)啰怛努(二合引)訥婆(二合)味(引七)摩賀(引)啰怛那(二合)枳啰尼(去聲八)啰怛那(二合)三婆味(引)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引九)
爾時阿難聞佛宣說。令諸眾生得宿命智陀羅尼已。嘆未曾有歡喜無量。即以頭頂禮佛而退。

那時，世尊告訴阿難（Ananda，佛陀的十大弟子之一）說：『有一種陀羅尼，名為宿命智。如果眾生聽聞此陀羅尼，能夠專心受持，所有千劫以來的極重罪業都將消滅。如果能夠終身不間斷地持誦，這個人將在七俱胝（koti，印度數字，意為千萬）生中常知宿命。』 佛即說陀羅尼曰：

當時，阿難聽聞佛宣說此能令眾生獲得宿命智的陀羅尼后，讚歎前所未有，歡喜無量，即以頭頂禮佛而退。
《佛說宿命智陀羅尼經》
【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Dharani of the Knowledge of Former Lives Spoken by the Buddha
Translated by Dharma賢 (Fa Xian), Minister of the 光祿卿 (Guangluqing) with the title of 朝散大夫 (Chaosan Daifu), and Great Master 明教 (Mingjiao) of the Western Heaven Translation Scripture 三藏 (Sanzang), under Imperial Decree
At that time, the World Honored One told Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha): 'There is a Dharani named the Knowledge of Former Lives. If sentient beings hear this Dharani and can wholeheartedly receive and uphold it, all extremely heavy karmic offenses from thousands of kalpas will be extinguished. If one can recite it without interruption throughout their life, that person will constantly know their former lives for seven kotis (an Indian numerical unit meaning ten million) of lifetimes.' Then the Buddha spoke the Dharani, saying:
Na mo ratna śi khi ne ta thā ga tā yā rha te sa mya kmaṃ bu ddhā ya ta dya thā oṃ ratne ratne su ratne ratna udbhava ve ma hā ratna ki raṇi ratna sambhava svā hā
At that time, upon hearing the Buddha proclaim this Dharani that enables sentient beings to obtain the Knowledge of Former Lives, Ananda praised it as unprecedented, experiencing immeasurable joy. He then bowed to the Buddha with his head and withdrew.

【English Translation】 English version: 'Su ra tne ra tno dbha ve ma hā ra tna ki ra ṇi ra tna saṃ bha ve svā hā' This is a mantra. 'Ratna' means jewel, 'Maha' means great, 'Kirani' means ray or light, and 'Sambhave' means origin or arising. 'Svāhā' is a common auspicious ending to mantras, meaning accomplishment or fulfillment. The mantra can be understood as: A prayer to the jewel, the great jewel, the jewel light, the origin of the jewel, may it be accomplished.
