爾時佛告諸苾芻。汝等諦聽我今宣說無畏陀羅尼。是陀羅尼能與眾生息除諸難。苾芻若人得聞及受持者。是人所獲功德無量無邊。即說陀羅尼曰。

爾時,佛告訴諸位比丘(bhiksu,出家受具足戒的男性佛教徒)說:『你們仔細聽好,我現在宣說無畏陀羅尼(dhāraṇī,總持法門)。這個陀羅尼能夠幫助眾生息滅消除各種災難。比丘們,如果有人聽聞並且受持這個陀羅尼,這個人所獲得的功德無量無邊。』 於是佛就說了這個陀羅尼:

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks the Fearless Dhāraṇī Sūtra

The Buddha Speaks the Fearless Dhāraṇī Sūtra
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Fa Xian, Minister of the Guanglu Affairs and Great Officer of the Imperial Secretariat, under imperial order, from the Western Regions.
At that time, the Buddha told the bhikshus (monks): 'Listen carefully, I will now proclaim the Fearless Dhāraṇī (dhāraṇī, a mnemonic device). This dhāraṇī can help sentient beings extinguish and eliminate all kinds of calamities. Bhikshus, if someone hears and upholds this dhāraṇī, the merit they obtain will be immeasurable and boundless.' Then the Buddha spoke the dhāraṇī:

爾時世尊說是陀羅尼已。復告諸苾芻言。若善男子善女人。聞此陀羅尼發志誠心。恭信供養讀誦受持。若自手書若使人書。及為他說廣宣流佈。是人不為王難水火難。刀兵難冤賊難之所傷害。又復不為夜叉難禁縛難。雷雹難閃電難。大海漂沒難蟒蛇毒螫難。師子狂象難猛虎惡獸難饑饉疾疫難。如是諸難皆不為害乃至怖畏悉皆解脫。
爾時諸苾芻眾聞佛所說。歡喜信受作禮而退。

當時,各位比丘眾聽聞佛所說,歡喜信受,作禮後退下。

At that time, after the World Honored One finished speaking this Dharani, he further told the Bhikshus: 'If a good man or good woman, upon hearing this Dharani, generates a sincere mind, respectfully believes, makes offerings, recites, upholds it, or personally writes it by hand, or has someone else write it, and explains it to others, widely propagating and disseminating it, this person will not be harmed by the difficulties of kings, water and fire, weapons, enemies and thieves. Furthermore, they will not be harmed by the difficulties of yakshas, imprisonment, thunder and hail, lightning, being submerged in the great ocean, poisonous snakes, lions and mad elephants, fierce tigers and evil beasts, famine and pestilence. Such various calamities will not cause harm, and even all fears will be liberated.'
At that time, the assembly of Bhikshus, upon hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced, believed, accepted, paid homage, and withdrew.
