於時尊者羅睺羅往詣佛所。到已頭面著地。禮世尊足圍繞三匝。涕淚悲泣立世尊前。
爾時世尊告羅睺羅言。汝今云何涕淚悲泣住立我前。羅睺羅言如是世尊。我先住于王舍城孕欺迦耶怛曩地寒林之中。于大冢間。彼時有諸天魅龍魅藥叉羅剎緊捺啰㜸嚕荼摩護啰誐。及餘一切人非人。餓鬼部多比舍佐供畔拏等。皆來魅我。亦有多種異類鳥鵲獯狐豺狼諸蟲蟻等。極擾惱我。
爾時世尊告尊者羅睺羅。言羅睺羅汝今諦聽此有大明秘密難拏陀羅尼。為擁護聽眾。若苾芻苾芻尼鄔播索俱鄔播斯迦。長夜利益得安樂故。說此陀羅尼曰。

如是我聞。一時,薄伽梵(Bhagavan,世尊)在王舍城中。當時,尊者羅睺羅(Rāhula,佛陀之子)在孕欺迦耶怛曩地寒林中游歷,于大冢間。那時,有諸天魅、龍魅、藥叉(Yaksa,夜叉)羅剎(Rakshasa,羅剎)、緊捺啰(Kinnara,緊那羅)、㜸嚕荼(Garuda,迦樓羅)、摩護啰誐(Mahoraga,摩睺羅伽),以及其他一切人非人、餓鬼、部多(Bhuta, भूत,鬼)、比舍佐(Pisaca,畢舍遮)、供畔拏等前來魅惑。也有多種異類烏鴉、喜鵲、獯狐、豺狼、蟲蟻等,極大地擾惱他。
當時,尊者羅睺羅前往佛陀處,到達後頭面著地,禮拜世尊的足,圍繞三匝,涕淚悲泣地站在世尊面前。
這時,世尊告訴羅睺羅說:『你現在為何涕淚悲泣地站在這裡?』羅睺羅回答說:『如是,世尊。我先前住在王舍城孕欺迦耶怛曩地寒林之中,于大冢間。那時,有諸天魅、龍魅、藥叉、羅剎、緊捺啰、㜸嚕荼、摩護啰誐,以及其他一切人非人、餓鬼、部多、比舍佐、供畔拏等,都來魅惑我。也有多種異類鳥鵲、獯狐、豺狼、各種蟲蟻等,極大地擾惱我。』

The Great Cold Forest Sacred Nanda Dharani Sutra
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Preaching Master of Nālandā Monastery in Magadha, Central India, the Purple-Robed Śrāmaṇa, Chen Fatian, under Imperial Decree.
Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, The World-Honored One) was in the city of Rajagriha. At that time, the Venerable Rāhula (Rāhula, son of the Buddha) was wandering in the Cold Forest of Garbhagayatanadi, among the great burial mounds. At that time, there were various Deva-maras, Naga-maras, Yaksha (Yaksa, night spirit) Rakshasa (Rakshasa, demon) Kinnara (Kinnara, celestial musician), Garuda (Garuda, mythical bird), Mahoraga (Mahoraga, great serpent), and all other human and non-human beings, hungry ghosts, Bhuta (Bhuta, भूत, ghost), Pisaca (Pisaca, demon), Kumbhanda, etc., who came to bewitch him. There were also various kinds of strange crows, magpies, Xun foxes, jackals, wolves, insects, ants, etc., which greatly disturbed him.
At that time, the Venerable Rāhula went to the Buddha's place. Having arrived, he prostrated himself with his head to the ground, paid homage to the World-Honored One's feet, circumambulated three times, and stood before the World-Honored One, weeping with tears of sorrow.
At that time, the World-Honored One said to Rāhula, 'Why are you now weeping with tears of sorrow, standing before me?' Rāhula replied, 'Thus it is, World-Honored One. I was previously dwelling in the Cold Forest of Garbhagayatanadi in the city of Rajagriha, among the great burial mounds. At that time, there were various Deva-maras, Naga-maras, Yakshas, Rakshasas, Kinnaras, Garudas, Mahoragas, and all other human and non-human beings, hungry ghosts, Bhutas, Pisacas, Kumbhandas, etc., who all came to bewitch me. There were also various kinds of strange birds, magpies, Xun foxes, jackals, various insects, ants, etc., which greatly disturbed me.'
At that time, the World-Honored One said to the Venerable Rāhula, 'Rāhula, listen carefully now. Here is the Great Bright Secret Nanda Dharani (Nanda Dharani), for the protection of the audience, whether they are Bhikshus (Bhiksu, ordained monks), Bhikshunis (Bhiksuni, ordained nuns), Upasakas (Upasaka, laymen), or Upasikas (Upasika, laywomen), for their long-night benefit and happiness, I now speak this Dharani:'

若有鬼魅來作嬈亂不退散者。但專志心誦此真言。彼等鬼神見持誦人。如執金剛大藥叉主純一金剛。威猛熾盛炎烈火焰。四大天王各執鐵輪。鋒利刀劍逐令馳散。頭破七分身體劈裂。
若彼鬼魅還本住處。彼諸同類不容入眾。亦不令住阿吒迦嚩底大王都城。複次羅睺羅此難拏大明陀羅尼志心誦持。即得遠離王賊水火毒氣刀杖。曠野山林險難惡道。往來之者一切無畏。
複次羅睺羅。此難拏大明陀羅尼。九十一殑伽沙數諸佛。已說今說當說。具足神通。大神通者諸天龍藥叉犍闥婆阿素洛㜸魯荼摩護啰誐。一切群生圍繞禮拜。彼諸眾生離一切怖皆得安樂。

【English Translation】 English version: By obtaining and reciting this Dharani, one can receive protection extending over a hundred Yojanas (Yojana, an ancient Indian unit of distance), keeping one far from the disturbances of non-humans (referring to beings like Devas, Nagas, etc.). One will also not suffer from being burned or swept away by water or fire, nor be harmed by swords, staves, poisons, malaria, or other illnesses. One will not meet with premature death, Vetala (Vetala, a type of evil spirit) disease, or the harm of bright mantra techniques. Reciting this true mantra brings peace and happiness. If one is bound, one will be freed, and all calamities and afflictions will be eliminated, and verbal disputes will also cease.
If there are ghosts or demons that come to cause disturbance and do not retreat, simply focus your mind and recite this true mantra. When those ghosts and spirits see the person reciting, it will be as if they see the great Yaksha chief (Yaksa, a type of guardian deity) holding a Vajra, a pure Vajra, with fierce and blazing flames. The Four Great Heavenly Kings, each holding an iron wheel and sharp swords, will chase them away, causing their heads to break into seven pieces and their bodies to be split apart.
If those ghosts and demons return to their original dwelling place, their kind will not allow them to enter the group, nor will they allow them to reside in the capital city of King Atakavati. Furthermore, Rahula (Rahula, Buddha's son), sincerely reciting and upholding this Nanda (Nanda) Great Bright Dharani, one will be able to stay away from kings and thieves, water and fire, poisonous gases, swords and staves, and in dangerous and evil paths in wilderness mountains and forests, those who come and go will have no fear.
Furthermore, Rahula (Rahula, Buddha's son), this Nanda (Nanda) Great Bright Dharani has been spoken, is being spoken, and will be spoken by ninety-one Ganges sand number of Buddhas. Possessing supernatural powers, great supernatural powers, Devas, Nagas, Yakshas (Yaksa, a type of guardian deity), Gandharvas (Gandharva, a type of celestial musician), Asuras (Asura, a type of demon), Garudas (Garuda, a mythical bird), and Mahoragas (Mahoraga, a type of serpent deity), all beings surround and pay homage.
