聞如是。一時佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。時與摩訶比丘僧。說摩尼羅亶經。佛問阿難言。天下人民得不安隱用何等故。用天下萬民多有疾病者病痛者用何等故。用出母腹痛用傷心痛頭痛目眩不能飲食。魔皆所為。今諸比丘大懼怖如是。便前白佛言。痛從何所來去至何所。人民大愁憂不樂。佛會諸比丘摩訶迦葉惟阿那律離越摩訶目犍連舍利弗阿難因持羅。

The Sutra of Mani Ratna Spoken by the Buddha

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Jetavana Anathapindika-arama (釋迦牟尼佛接受信徒佈施的園林) in Sravasti (舍衛國). At that time, he was with a large assembly of Bhikkhus (比丘僧, monks), speaking the 'Mani Ratna Sutra'. The Buddha asked Ananda (阿難, one of the Buddha's ten principal disciples): 'Why are the people of the world not at peace? Why do the people of the world have so many illnesses and pains? Because of the pain of emerging from the mother's womb, because of heartbreak, headaches, dizziness, and inability to eat, all of these are caused by Mara (魔). Now, all the Bhikkhus are greatly fearful of this.' Then (Ananda) stepped forward and said to the Buddha: 'Where do these pains come from, and where do they go? The people are greatly worried and unhappy.' The Buddha gathered the Bhikkhus, including Mahakasyapa (摩訶迦葉, the first patriarch of Zen Buddhism), Aniruddha (阿那律, one of the Buddha's ten principal disciples, known for his divine eye), Revata (離越, a disciple of the Buddha), Mahamudgalyayana (摩訶目犍連, one of the Buddha's ten principal disciples, known for his supernatural powers), Sariputra (舍利弗, one of the Buddha's ten principal disciples, known for his wisdom), Ananda (阿難), and Indra (因持羅, a deity in Hinduism and Buddhism).
The Buddha then spoke the 'Mani Ratna Sutra'. The Buddha listed the names of the Buddhas: the first was Vipassi Buddha (惟衛佛, one of the past seven Buddhas), the second was Sikhi Buddha (式佛, one of the past seven Buddhas), the third was Vessabhu Buddha (隨葉佛, one of the past seven Buddhas), the fourth was Kakusandha Buddha (拘留秦佛, one of the past seven Buddhas), the fifth was Konagamana Buddha (拘那含牟尼佛, one of the past seven Buddhas), the sixth was Kasyapa Buddha (迦葉佛, one of the past seven Buddhas), and the seventh was Sakyamuni Buddha (釋迦文佛, the present Buddha). This sutra all came from the mouths of the Buddhas. The first is Sikshara (式叉羅), the second is Gandhara (揵陀羅), the third is Gandhura (揵頭羅), the fourth is Mikhara (彌佉羅), the fifth is Kanjura (干朱羅), the sixth is Mayura (摩油羅), the seventh is Asura (阿須輪, meaning 'non-heaven', one of the six realms), the eighth is Sramana (隨沙門, meaning 'ascetic', referring to a renunciate), the ninth is Susun (隨孫), and the tenth is [阿-可+曼]提 (Amandi). All people, great and small, who have contracted illnesses, now the Buddha commands all Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis (比丘尼, nuns), Upasakas (優婆塞, lay male devotees), and Upasikas (優婆夷, lay female devotees) to recite this sutra. Whether it is a ghost in the country, a ghost in the mountains, a ghost in the forest, a ghost in the grass, a ghost between tombs, a ghost in the tomb, a ghost on the ground, a ghost in the water, a ghost by the water, a ghost in the fire, a ghost by the fire, a ghost of the Big Dipper, a ghost in the void, a ghost in the marketplace, a ghost of the dead, a ghost of the living, a hungry ghost, a ghost outside the path, a ghost in the path, a ghost outside the hall, a ghost inside the hall, a ghost inside the body, a ghost outside the body.

佛告諸比丘。若有受是經者。若有病瘦當說是經。若有頭痛目眩寒熱傷心。常當讀是摩尼羅亶經。諸鬼神則頭破作七分。
若有縣官盜賊水火。則當讀是摩尼羅亶經。諸鬼神不得復嬈害人。今是經諸佛口中所出。若有國中鬼。一者名深沙二者名浮丘。是二鬼健行求人長短。若有頭痛目眩寒熱傷心。即當舉是二鬼名字。便當說摩尼羅亶經。是諸鬼神無不破碎者。

【English Translation】 English version Ghosts. There are ghosts that eat food, and ghosts that sleep. Now the Buddha says there are red ghosts, black ghosts. There are tall ghosts, short ghosts. There are big ghosts, small ghosts. There are medium ghosts, white ghosts. There are yellow ghosts, blue ghosts. There are black ghosts, ghosts that wake up in dreams. There are ghosts that rise early, ghosts that walk. There are flying ghosts, ghosts that ask about people's souls. There are ghosts of living people, ghosts of dead people.
The Buddha said, if someone is angry and picks up knives and sticks, they should recite this 'Manirodan Sutra' (Manirodan Sutra). All the ghosts and spirits will be shattered.
The Buddha told the Bhikkhus, if someone receives this Sutra, if they are sick and thin, they should speak this Sutra. If someone has a headache, dizziness, chills and fever, or a broken heart, they should always recite this 'Manirodan Sutra' (Manirodan Sutra). The heads of all the ghosts and spirits will be broken into seven pieces.
If there are lawsuits, thieves, floods, or fires, then you should recite this 'Manirodan Sutra' (Manirodan Sutra). The ghosts and spirits will not be able to harass or harm people again. Now this Sutra is spoken from the mouths of all the Buddhas. If there are ghosts in the country, one is named Shensha (Shensha), and the other is named Fuqiu (Fuqiu). These two ghosts are quick to act and look for people's shortcomings. If someone has a headache, dizziness, chills and fever, or a broken heart, then they should mention the names of these two ghosts, and then they should speak the 'Manirodan Sutra' (Manirodan Sutra). None of these ghosts and spirits will not be shattered.
If there are blue ghosts, yellow ghosts, black ghosts. Tall ghosts, short ghosts, wide and long ghosts. All kinds of ghosts and spirits, big and small, who like to harass the people of the world. Those ghosts are named Jinman ghost (Jinman ghost), Bili ghost (Bili ghost), Hungry ghost (Hungry ghost), Miserly ghost (Miserly ghost), Hardworking ghost (Hardworking ghost), Sickly ghost (Sickly ghost). 【English Translation】 English version: O, you dead ghosts with fishy stench. O, you fugitive dead ghosts, you fighting dead ghosts. O, you dead ghosts killed by clubs, you dead ghosts strangled to death. O, you dead ghosts who hanged yourselves, you dead ghosts who stabbed yourselves. O, you dead ghosts of enemies, you dead ghosts who died violently. O, you ghosts with rotting skin, you ghosts who cut off people's hair. O, you ghosts who drink human blood, you flying ghosts. O, you ghosts who ride on people, you ghosts who drive carriages. O, you walking ghosts, you ghosts who offend people upon encounter. O, you mountain gods who are ghosts, you stone gods who are ghosts. O, you earth gods who are ghosts, you ghosts by the sea. O, you ghosts in the sea, you ghosts on bridges. All you great and small ghosts and spirits, you must not harass or harm this body. If any ghost or spirit does not follow my words, may your head be shattered into seven pieces. If a person becomes ill and emaciated, you should recite the names of all the above-mentioned ghosts and spirits. By chanting this mantra for the sick person, the illness will be eliminated and cured. This sutra was spoken by the Sakyamuni Buddha himself. After hearing this sutra, all ghosts and spirits will have all their illnesses cured from now on. After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, all bhiksus, bhiksunis, upasakas, upasikas, as well as devas, nagas, ghosts, spirits, and people, all received the Buddha's grace, came before the Buddha, paid homage to the Buddha, and departed.
