如是我聞。一時佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。與千二百五十比丘。皆阿羅漢諸漏已盡。身心澄靜六通無礙。其名曰大智舍利弗摩訶目揵連。摩訶迦葉摩訶迦旃延須菩提等。復有菩薩摩訶薩八千人俱。文殊師利菩薩導師菩薩。虛空藏菩薩觀世音菩薩救脫菩薩。如是等菩薩摩訶薩威德自在。復有比丘比丘尼優婆塞優婆夷。天龍夜叉八部鬼神共相圍繞說微妙法。時有離車長者子五十人俱。身坌塵土懷憂愁戚。猶如有人生失父母所愛妻子。來至佛所頭面作禮卻住一面。

爾時世尊知而故問。諸長者子以何因緣而有惱色。憂愁不樂失於常容。時諸長者子同聲俱白佛言。世尊未審人居世間。頗有家宅吉兇以不。佛即答言如是。諸事皆由眾生心行。夢想所造不得都無。諸離車等白佛言。世尊弟子等蒙宿緣一毫之福。得睹如來慈化無遺。開甘露門潤以法雨。復有何罪生此五濁極惡之世。懷憂抱苦怖懼萬端不捨須臾。所以言者自惟弟子德淺福薄。所居舍宅災怪頻疊。惡魔日夜競共侵陵。坐臥不安如懷湯火。自頃已來失去善心無所恃怙。唯愿世尊受弟子請臨降所居賜為安宅。敕諸守宅諸神及

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks the Dhāraṇī Sutra for Pacifying the Household

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapindika』s Park in Śrāvastī, with twelve hundred and fifty bhikkhus (monks), all of whom were arhats (enlightened beings) who had exhausted all outflows, their bodies and minds were clear and tranquil, and they possessed the six supernormal powers without obstruction. Their names were: Great Wisdom Śāriputra, Mahāmaudgalyāyana, Mahākāśyapa, Mahākātyāyana, Subhūti, and others. Furthermore, there were eight thousand bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (great enlightened beings) together, including Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva, the Guide Bodhisattva, Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, Deliverance Bodhisattva. These bodhisattva-mahāsattvas possessed majestic virtue and were at ease. There were also bhikkhunīs (nuns), upāsakas (male lay practitioners), upāsikās (female lay practitioners), as well as devas (gods), nāgas (dragons), yakṣas (demons), and the eight classes of ghosts and spirits, all surrounding and expounding the subtle Dharma. At that time, there were fifty sons of Licchavi (name of a clan) elders, their bodies covered in dust, harboring worry and sorrow, as if they had lost their parents or beloved wives. They came to where the Buddha was, bowed their heads to the ground in reverence, and stood to one side.

Then, the World-Honored One, knowing the situation, deliberately asked: 'Why do you, sons of elders, have such troubled expressions, filled with worry and unhappiness, having lost your usual countenance?' The sons of the elders replied in unison to the Buddha, saying: 'World-Honored One, we do not know whether the homes of people living in the world are subject to good or ill fortune.' The Buddha replied: 'It is so. All matters arise from the minds and actions of sentient beings, and dreams are not entirely without cause.' The Licchavis and others said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One, we disciples are fortunate to have received a trace of merit from past lives, enabling us to witness the Tathāgata』s (Buddha's) compassionate teachings without omission, opening the gate of nectar and moistening us with the rain of Dharma. But what offense have we committed to be born in this world of the five turbidities, filled with worry and suffering, constantly fearing and never finding respite? The reason we say this is because we disciples consider ourselves to have shallow virtue and meager blessings. The homes where we live are frequently plagued by disasters and strange occurrences. Evil demons constantly invade us day and night, making it impossible to sit or lie down in peace, as if we were immersed in boiling water. Since these events began, we have lost our good intentions and have nothing to rely on. We only wish that the World-Honored One would accept our invitation to descend upon our dwellings, bestow the blessing of pacifying our homes, and command the gods who guard our homes and'


四時禁忌。常來榮衛使日夜安吉災禍消滅。佛言善哉善哉。當如汝說吾自知時。

爾時世尊明旦敕諸弟子。可各整衣服當入聚落。各持應器往至長者子舍。飯食既畢敷轉輪座。為諸長者說微妙法。令離怖畏身心悅樂。時諸離車各生歡喜。猶如比丘入第三禪。爾時世尊即呼守宅諸神。來到佛所而告之言。自今已后是諸神鬼。不得妄作恐動。令某等不安恒懷憂怖。吾當使大力鬼神。碎滅汝身令如微塵。

爾時世尊復告大眾。諸善男子善女人等。吾涅槃后五百歲中。眾生垢重邪見轉熾 魔道競興妖魅妄作。𨶳人門戶各伺人便。覓人長短為作不祥種種留難。當爾之時是諸弟子。應當一心念佛念法念比丘僧。齋戒清凈奉持三歸五戒十善八關齋戒。日夕六時禮拜懺悔勤心精進。請清凈僧設安宅齋。燒眾名香然燈續明。露出中庭讀是經典。某等安居立宅已來。建立南庌北堂東西之廂。碓磨倉庫井灶門墻。園林池沼六畜之欄。或復移房動土穿鑿非時。或犯觸伏龍騰蛇青龍白虎朱雀玄武。六甲禁忌十二時神門庭戶陌井灶精露。堂上戶中溷邊之神。我今持諸佛神力菩薩威光般若波羅蜜力。敕宅前宅后宅左宅右宅中守神神子神母。伏龍騰蛇六甲禁忌。十二時神飛尸邪忤魍魎鬼神。因托形聲寄名附著。自今已后不得妄嬈我弟子等。

【English Translation】 English version: The prohibitions of the four seasons. May it constantly bring the arrival of flourishing and protective energies, ensuring peace and auspiciousness day and night, and eliminating disasters. The Buddha said, 'Excellent, excellent. It should be as you say; I myself know the seasons.'

At that time, the World Honored One, in the early morning, instructed the disciples: 'You may each tidy your robes and should enter the villages. Each holding your alms bowls, go to the residence of the son of the elder. After the meal is finished, set up the Dharma wheel seat and expound the subtle Dharma for the elders, enabling them to be free from fear and their bodies and minds to be joyful.' At that time, the Licchavis each felt joy, like a Bhikshu entering the third Dhyana. At that time, the World Honored One immediately summoned the various deities guarding the residence, who came to the Buddha's abode, and He admonished them, saying: 'From now on, these gods and ghosts must not act recklessly, creating panic, causing so-and-so to be uneasy, constantly harboring worry and fear. I will cause powerful ghost-spirits to crush your bodies, making them like fine dust.'

At that time, the World Honored One further addressed the assembly: 'All good men and good women. In the five hundred years after my Nirvana, beings' defilements will be heavy, and wrong views will become increasingly intense. Demonic paths will compete to arise, and妖魅 (yāomèi,妖魅 means goblins and demons) will act recklessly, spying on others' households, seeking opportunities to find others' weaknesses, looking for others' shortcomings, creating inauspicious events, and setting up various obstacles. At that time, these disciples should single-mindedly recite the Buddha, recite the Dharma, and recite the Bhikshu Sangha. Maintain purity through fasting and observing precepts, uphold the Three Refuges, the Five Precepts, the Ten Virtuous Actions, and the Eight Precepts. Morning and evening, at the six times of the day, prostrate, repent, and diligently advance. Invite pure monks to set up a 'Dwelling Pacification Feast' (安宅齋, Ānzhái zhāi). Burn various precious incenses, light lamps to continue the illumination. Expose it in the courtyard and recite this scripture. Since so-and-so have settled and established this residence, establishing the southern wing, the northern hall, the eastern and western wings, as well as the mortars, mills, storehouses, wells, stoves, gates, walls, gardens, ponds, and livestock pens. Or perhaps moving houses, disturbing the earth, digging and drilling at inappropriate times. Or offending and disturbing the伏龍 (fúlóng, hidden dragons), 騰蛇 (téngshé, soaring serpents), 青龍 (qīnglóng, Azure Dragon), 白虎 (báihǔ, White Tiger), 朱雀 (zhūquè, Vermilion Bird), 玄武 (xuánwǔ, Black Tortoise), as well as the 六甲禁忌 (liùjiǎ jìnjì, Six Jia Taboos), the 十二時神 (shí'èr shíshén, Twelve Hour Deities), the 門庭戶陌 (méntíng hùmò, paths before the gate), the 井灶精露 (jǐngzào jīnglù, essence of wells and stoves). 神子神母宅中諸神邪魅蠱道魍魎弊魔各安所在不得妄相侵陵為作衰惱。令某甲等驚動怖畏。當如我教。若不順我語令汝等頭。破作七分如多羅樹枝。

爾時世尊而說咒曰。

南無佛陀四野  南無達摩四野  南無僧伽四野

今為弟子某甲承佛威力而說神咒。

一足眾生莫惱我  二足眾生莫惱我  三足眾生莫惱我  四足眾生莫惱我

我有一切大慈大悲愍念一切眾生。汝等惡魔各還所屬。不得橫忓擾亂我弟子等。復說咒曰。

白黑龍王 善子龍王 漚缽羅龍王 阿耨大龍王

結界咒文

伽婆致 伽婆致 悉波呵 東方大神龍王 七里結界 金剛宅 南方大神龍王 七里結界 金剛宅 西方大神龍王 七里結界 金剛宅 北方大神龍王 七里結界 金剛宅 如是三說

東方婆鳩深山娑羅伽叉汝百鬼頸著枷 南方婆鳩深山娑羅伽叉汝百鬼頸著枷 西方婆鳩深山娑羅伽叉汝百鬼頸著枷 北方婆鳩深山娑羅伽叉汝百鬼頸著枷 如是三說

主疾病者主頭痛者。主人舍宅門戶者。當斂諸毒不得擾我諸弟子。若不順我咒頭破作七分。爾時世尊而說偈言。

造宅立堂宇  安育諸群生  園林並池沼  門墻及與圊  起心興舍室  動靜應聖靈  稽首歸命佛

【English Translation】 English version: In the homes of divine sons and divine mothers, may all spirits, demons, sorceries, goblins, harmful devils, each abide in their place, and not wantonly invade or disturb, causing decline and distress, making so-and-so (referring to a specific person) and others terrified and fearful. You should obey my teachings. If you do not obey my words, may your heads be shattered into seven pieces, like branches of the Tala tree.

At that time, the World Honored One spoke this mantra:

Namo Buddhaya Sivaya, Namo Dharmaya Sivaya, Namo Sanghaya Sivaya.

Now, for the sake of my disciple so-and-so, relying on the power of the Buddha, I speak this divine mantra.

One-legged beings, do not trouble me. Two-legged beings, do not trouble me. Three-legged beings, do not trouble me. Four-legged beings, do not trouble me.

I possess all-encompassing great compassion, pitying all living beings. You evil demons, each return to your respective domains, and do not interfere or disturb my disciples. Again, he spoke the mantra:

White Black Dragon King, Good Son Dragon King, Utpala-dragon king (Utpala-dragon king), Anavatapta-dragon king (Anavatapta-dragon king).

Boundary-Binding Mantra:

Gabbaci, Gabbaci, Siddha Poha. Great Divine Dragon King of the East, establish a boundary of seven li, Diamond Abode. Great Divine Dragon King of the South, establish a boundary of seven li, Diamond Abode. Great Divine Dragon King of the West, establish a boundary of seven li, Diamond Abode. Great Divine Dragon King of the North, establish a boundary of seven li, Diamond Abode. Repeat this three times.

Bhagushim-mountain Salakaksha (Bhagushim-mountain Salakaksha) of the East, you hundred ghosts, wear yokes around your necks. Bhagushim-mountain Salakaksha of the South, you hundred ghosts, wear yokes around your necks. Bhagushim-mountain Salakaksha of the West, you hundred ghosts, wear yokes around your necks. Those who control diseases, those who control headaches, those who control the doors of people's homes, should restrain your poisons and not disturb my disciples. If you do not obey my mantra, may your heads be shattered into seven pieces. At that time, the World Honored One spoke this verse:

Building houses and establishing halls, providing shelter and nurturing all living beings, creating gardens and ponds, constructing walls and latrines, initiating the intention to build dwellings, every action should accord with the sacred spirits. Bowing and taking refuge in the Buddha.


眾魔莫能傾  明燈照無極  五眼因之生  法王大咒力  動破魔億千  如來慈普潤  威光徹無邊  莫等咸歸命  眾邪各自遷

佛告日月五星二十八宿天神龍鬼。皆來受教明聽 佛告言。不得前卻某甲之家。或作東廂西廂南[宋-木+牙]北堂。敕日遊月殺土府將軍。青龍白虎朱雀玄武。歲月劫殺六甲禁忌。土府伏龍莫妄東西。若有動靜燒香啟聞。某甲宅舍是佛金剛之地。面二百步佛有約言。諸疫鬼神不得妄。忤忤者頭破作七分。身不得全不得水漿。去離本宮宅舍。已成富貴吉遷田作大得所愿。光榮行來在軍。仕宦宜官門戶昌熾。百子千孫父慈子孝。男女忠貞兄良弟順。崇義仁賢所愿如意。十方證明行如菩薩得道如佛。佛告阿難若欲安宅。露出中庭然四十九燈。掃灑燒香一心懺悔。禮十方諸佛。阿難又白佛言。當何名斯經。佛語阿難。此經名如來大悲不可思議神力。亦名愍念眾生安宅破魔神咒佛說經竟大眾歡喜作禮奉行。

【English Translation】 English version The multitude of demons cannot subvert (the Dharma). The bright lamp illuminates the boundless, and the five eyes (flesh eye, heavenly eye, wisdom eye, Dharma eye, Buddha eye) are born from it. The great mantra power of the Dharma King (Buddha) shakes and destroys billions of demonic armies. The Tathagata's (Buddha's) compassion universally bestows and nourishes, and its majestic light penetrates without limit. Do not wait, all return to the Dharma, and various evils each migrate away.

The Buddha told the gods and spirits of the sun, moon, five planets, twenty-eight constellations (divisions of the sky in ancient Chinese astronomy), dragons, and ghosts: All come to receive instruction and listen carefully. The Buddha warned: Do not disturb the home of so-and-so (referring to the resident), whether it is the east wing, west wing, south room, or north hall. Warn the wandering gods of the day, the killing gods of the month, the generals of the earth palace, as well as the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise (the four directional deities), as well as Tai Sui, Yue Jian, Jie Sha, the Six Jia taboos, and the earth palace lurking dragons, do not act recklessly. If there is any movement, burn incense and report it. The home of so-and-so is the Vajra (diamond) ground of the Buddha. Facing two hundred steps, the Buddha has an agreement: Various epidemic ghosts and spirits must not act wildly. Those who disobey will have their heads split into seven pieces, their bodies will not be complete, they will not receive water or sustenance, and they will leave their original palace and home. Wealth and nobility have already been achieved, auspicious migrations, great harvests in farming, and wishes fulfilled. Glory and splendor, marching in the military, serving as officials, official careers are prosperous, and the household is flourishing. Hundreds of sons and thousands of grandsons, fathers are kind and sons are filial, men and women are loyal and chaste, brothers are friendly and siblings are obedient, upholding righteousness, benevolence, and virtue, and wishes are fulfilled as desired. The Buddhas of the ten directions testify, practice like Bodhisattvas, and attain enlightenment like Buddhas. The Buddha told Ananda (one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha): If you want to stabilize your home, light forty-nine lamps in the courtyard, clean it, burn incense, repent wholeheartedly, and prostrate to the Buddhas of the ten directions. Ananda then asked the Buddha: What should this sutra be called? The Buddha told Ananda: This sutra is called the 'Tathagata's Great Compassion Inconceivable Divine Power Sutra', and it is also called the 'Sutra of Compassion for Sentient Beings, Pacifying Homes, and Destroying Demonic Spells'. After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, the assembly rejoiced, paid homage, and practiced accordingly.
