爾時世尊告阿難言。有大陀羅尼具大威力功德無量。能滅眾生五逆重罪。若復有人聞是陀羅尼。發至誠心盡此身命。常能頂戴受持讀誦。是人所獲功德。如持千佛無異。即說陀羅尼曰。

這時，世尊告訴阿難（Ananda，佛陀的十大弟子之一）說：『有一個大陀羅尼（dharani，總持、真言），具有巨大的威力和無量的功德，能夠滅除眾生所造的五逆重罪。如果有人聽聞這個陀羅尼，以至誠之心，盡此一生，常常能夠頂戴、受持、讀誦，這個人所獲得的功德，就如同持誦千佛一樣沒有差別。』於是世尊就說了這個陀羅尼：

【English Translation】 English version The Great Dharani Sutra for Eradicating the Five Heinous Offenses, Spoken by the Buddha

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Fa Xian of the Mingjiao Monastery, Grand Master of Court of Imperial Sacrifices with the title of Chao San Da Fu, commissioned by imperial decree, from the Western Regions.

At that time, the World Honored One told Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha): 'There is a great dharani (a type of mantra or incantation) that possesses great power and immeasurable merit. It can eradicate the five heinous offenses committed by sentient beings. If someone hears this dharani and, with utmost sincerity, dedicates their entire life to upholding, reciting, and embracing it, the merit they obtain will be no different from that of holding the names of a thousand Buddhas.' Then, the World Honored One spoke the dharani:

At that time, Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), having heard the Tathagata (one of the titles of the Buddha) proclaim the great dharani (a type of mantra or incantation) for eradicating the five heinous offenses, rejoiced, danced with joy, prostrated to the Buddha (respectfully bowed to the Buddha), and withdrew.
