爾時世尊告阿難陀及諸大眾言。我觀此南閻浮提末世之時。一切眾生由薄福故。有諸惡鬼神起諸災難。惱亂眾生使不安隱。有陀羅尼能為息滅及增吉祥。我今宣說汝等諦聽。時阿難陀及諸大眾。奉佛教敕默然而聽。

The Sutra of the Supreme Meaning Dharani Spoken by the Buddha
Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shi Hu, Great Master of Spreading the Dharma, Minister of the Honglu Temple Trial, and Grand Master of the Chao San Da Fu, by Imperial Order from the Western Heaven.
Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Nyagrodha Park of the City of Saving Pigeons, together with a large assembly of Bhikkhus (monks). Also present were the Eight Classes of Gods and Dragons, respectfully surrounding, gazing, and abiding.
At that time, the World Honored One (Bhagavan, the Buddha) said to Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha, known for his excellent memory) and the great assembly: 'I observe that in this Jambudvipa (one of the four continents in Buddhist cosmology, the world we live in) during the degenerate age, all sentient beings, due to their meager blessings, will suffer calamities caused by various evil ghosts and spirits, who will disturb sentient beings and make them uneasy. There is a Dharani (a concise mantra containing profound Buddhist teachings) that can pacify these calamities and increase auspiciousness. I will now proclaim it; listen attentively.' At that time, Ananda and the great assembly, receiving the Buddha's instructions, listened in silence.
The Buddha said: 'Ananda, in a past life, in this Jambudvipa, there was a Bhikkhu named Chuan Jiao (Spreading Teachings). On the fifteenth day of the dark month of September, not far from the country of China in the northern direction, about four Yojanas (an ancient Indian unit of distance) away, he suddenly saw a divine being standing far away on the road. This divine being was thirty cubits tall and had a face four cubits in diameter. The Bhikkhu Chuan Jiao saw this divine being, whose body was majestic and whose countenance was joyful. Upon careful observation, he realized that this was none other than the true Manjushri Kumara (the youthful form of Manjushri Bodhisattva). Thereupon, the Bhikkhu Chuan Jiao approached the divine being, prostrated with his five limbs touching the ground, and paid his respects. After rising from his prostration, he joined his palms and gazed upward, saying to the divine being: 'Why does Manjushri Kumara appear in such a form? I now know for certain that you are no ordinary sage.' At that time, the divine being said to the Bhikkhu: 'Indeed, as you say, I am Manjushri.' At that time, the Bhikkhu Chuan Jiao again said to the divine being: 'Why do you appear in this form today?' At that time, the divine being said to the Bhikkhu Chuan Jiao: 'Do you know? Now, in this Jambudvipa, there will be calamities. Sentient beings with meager blessings will contract various diseases and suffer various afflictions.' 【English Translation】 English version: To the south of Mount Sumeru (Sumeru) dwell the Asuras (Asura, meaning non-gods). They harbor evil intentions and lead their retinues to wage war against the Devas (gods). At this time, the Asuras obscure the sun, moon, and stars, preventing their light from shining. Furthermore, there are countless extremely malevolent Yakshas (Yaksa, meaning flesh-eating demons), Gandharvas (Gandharva, meaning celestial musicians), Garudas (Garuda, meaning mythical bird-like beings), and others dwelling on the south side of Mount Meru (Mount Meru). Upon seeing the Asuras manifesting such signs, they also collude and assist them. At this time, the Devas are defeated, and the Asuras are victorious. Suddenly, in Jambudvipa (Jambudvipa, meaning the continent where we live), the light of the sun, moon, and stars is obscured, and various inauspicious omens appear everywhere. Winds and rains are untimely, droughts and floods occur alternately, and the five grains blossom but do not bear fruit. Even if they bear fruit, they are tasteless. This will cause all beings to diminish in complexion, strength, power, and radiance. Furthermore, various evil spirits such as the Pisacas (Pisaca, meaning flesh-eating demons) dwelling on the earth transform their original forms and manifest strange appearances, some transforming into lions, tigers, wolves, or dogs, and some manifesting as women to harass beings, causing them to contract various diseases and suffer. These include goiter, wind disorders, phlegm-vomiting diseases, eye diseases, headaches, abdominal pain, and even hemorrhoids and fistulas. Moreover, there are malarial fevers, occurring daily, every other day, momentarily, or continuously for months. Or they suffer from sores and scabies, and various evil diseases spread throughout Jambudvipa, causing all beings to suffer extreme pain. Those with meager blessings are unable to escape, whether they are elderly, middle-aged, young, or infants, and many die prematurely due to this epidemic. Bhikkhus (Bhikkhu, meaning monks), I am saddened and compassionate about this matter, so I manifest this appearance to inform people. Bhikkhus, I now tell you, if there are beings who wish to eliminate disasters and increase blessings for themselves and their families, even for villages and countries, they must first have deep faith in the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), and then prepare precious flowers, rare fruits, burning incense, and fragrant ointments as offerings. They should wholeheartedly abstain from food for seven consecutive days, four times during the day and four times during the night, and vigorously and attentively recite the Supreme Meaning Dharani (Dharani, meaning mantra), then these disasters will surely be eliminated, and all blessings will be increased. Bhikkhus, if you wish to recite this Supreme Meaning Dharani, you must first bow your head (Qishou, meaning touching the head to the ground to show extreme respect) and recite the name of Namo Great Vast Profound Wisdom Roaring King Tathagata (Namo Great Vast Profound Wisdom Roaring King Tathagata), and then recite the Dharani. At that time, that deity proclaimed the Supreme Meaning Dharani to the Bhikkhu who was transmitting the teachings.

爾時神人說此最上意陀羅尼已。告比丘傳教言。汝今以此陀羅尼于南閻浮提十方之內。國邑聚落處處傳說。使諸眾生鹹得聞知。當令此陀羅尼廣宣流佈。何以故。為與眾生能增長功德故。能與眾生除諸苦惱故。能於世間除諸災難故。能令諸惡鬼神息滅噁心故。能令所在國邑聚落王及臣民。一切皆得安隱快樂故。比丘若有善男子善女人。欲以此陀羅尼恭敬供養受持讀誦。息除災難增長功德者。應當發至誠心歸依三寶。於一七日中日別備諸香花飲食供養于佛。又日供七僧。又至中夜于自家庭。燃大炬火用為照燎持誦此陀羅尼。所有災難當得解脫。比丘若善男子善女人能如是作者。當得自身解脫。比丘若二七日如是備種種香花飲食。供養佛僧一倍於前。是人所有父母同得解脫。比丘若於三七日能如是于佛法僧倍前。以種種香花飲食恭敬供養者。彼人所有男女並一切眷屬同得解脫。比丘若四七日如是修持。倍倍於前精虔不懈者。彼人所住聚落一切人民鹹得解脫。比丘以要言之。乃至七

【English Translation】 English version: Om(combined) Ya sha he Sarwa(two combined) Buddha(extended vowel) Bhi sam sek ri(three combined) ta(extended vowel) ya sha he Ei ka xi ling(two combined) ga ya sha he A xi ling(two combined) ga ya sha he Bu duo(extended vowel) ya sha he A bu duo ya sha he Sarwa(two combined) nu ju bo san mo(extended vowel) ya sha he Mo mo sarwa(two combined extended vowel) nan(extended vowel) zuo sha he.
At that time, the divine being, having spoken this supreme 'intention' Dharani, told the Bhikshu (monk) who was spreading the teachings: 'You must now take this Dharani and transmit it within the ten directions of Jambudvipa (南閻浮提, the world we inhabit), in every city and village, so that all sentient beings may hear and know it. You should ensure that this Dharani is widely propagated.' Why? Because this Dharani can increase merit for sentient beings, can remove all suffering for sentient beings, can eliminate all disasters in the world, can cause all evil ghosts and spirits to cease their evil intentions, and can enable the kings, ministers, and people of the cities and villages where it is present to all obtain peace and happiness. Bhikshu, if there are good men and good women who wish to respectfully make offerings, uphold, recite, and chant this Dharani, to extinguish disasters and increase merit, they should generate a sincere heart and take refuge in the Three Jewels (三寶, Buddha, Dharma, Sangha). Within a period of seven days, they should daily prepare various incense, flowers, food, and drink to offer to the Buddha, and also make offerings to seven monks daily. Furthermore, at midnight in their own homes, they should light large torches to illuminate the area and recite this Dharani. All disasters will then be liberated. Bhikshu, if good men and good women can do this, they will attain personal liberation. Bhikshu, if for two periods of seven days they prepare various incense, flowers, food, and drink in this way, offering to the Buddha and Sangha, doubling the previous amount, then all their parents will attain liberation. Bhikshu, if for three periods of seven days they can increase their offerings to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, doubling the previous amount, and respectfully make offerings with various incense, flowers, food, and drink, then all their sons, daughters, and all relatives will attain liberation. 七日倍倍增勝於前供養奉佛法僧。彼人所獲功德。上及國王下及人民。國界之內普得解脫。比丘當知我今告汝。汝持此法於此界他方。速疾傳說使令流佈。何以故。為能與眾生消除種種苦惱。增長種種功德故。比丘若復有人得聞是法知其利益心不恭敬。又復不能廣為人說。亦復不能自專讀誦。比丘當知是人得匿法過同五逆罪。比丘若有眾生得聞是法。不違我教躬自依法。受持讀誦供養恭敬。復為他人依法修福。又能流佈廣利眾生。比丘我即遙知先為此人往妙高山。至天人阿修羅乾闥婆迦樓羅所。以利益心降伏勸喻。為其說法咸令歡喜。使彼天人阿修羅等。息彼諍心互相恭敬。即得閻浮提界災難息滅疫沴不生。諸惡鬼等各各潛隱。一切眾生鹹得安樂。時彼神人說是事已隱形不現。傳教比丘遵奉傳說。
