八名普密陀羅尼經

大唐三藏法師玄奘奉　詔譯

如是我聞。一時薄伽梵。在室羅筏住誓多林給孤獨園。與大苾芻眾千二百五十人俱。及無量無數菩薩摩訶薩。並諸天人阿素洛等。異類大眾前後圍繞。

爾時世尊告金剛手菩薩言。善男子汝所受持諸上明。咒神用威猛功業難成。雖后為益或初暫損。今有八名普密神咒。威德廣大事業易成。神用秘密始終無損。能受持者必獲利樂。當爲汝說汝樂聞不。時金剛手歡喜踴躍。頂禮佛足右跪合掌。請言世尊唯愿為說。

佛言諦聽極善思惟。吾今為汝分別演說。何謂八名普密神咒。一名功德寶藏。二名莊嚴象耳。三名善勇猛。四名勝諦云。五名成熾然。六名微妙色。七名嚴飾。八名金剛。若有得聞此八名咒。于當來世經七俱胝那庾多百千大劫。不墮地獄傍生餓鬼。將命終時身心安隱。見有諸佛及諸菩薩來現其前。為說大乘甚深法要。既聞法已。必得往生睹史多天奉事彌勒。后隨彌勒下贍部洲。行愿漸增乃至究竟。陀羅尼曰。

【現代漢語翻譯】現代漢語譯本如是我聞。一時，薄伽梵（Bhagavan，世尊）在室羅筏（Śrāvastī）城的誓多林（Jetavana）給孤獨園（Anāthapiṇḍika-ārāma）中，與一千二百五十位大比丘眾，以及無量無數的菩薩摩訶薩（Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas），還有諸天、人和阿修羅（Asura）等不同種類的大眾前後圍繞。這時，世尊告訴金剛手菩薩（Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva）說：『善男子，你所受持的各種殊勝明咒，雖然神力威猛，但功業難以成就，即使後來有益處，起初也可能造成暫時的損害。現在有八名普密神咒，威德廣大，事業容易成就，神用秘密，始終沒有損害。能夠受持這些神咒的人，必定獲得利益和快樂。我將為你宣說，你樂意聽聞嗎？』當時，金剛手菩薩歡喜踴躍，頂禮佛足，右膝跪地，合掌說道：『世尊，唯愿您為我們宣說。』佛說：『仔細聽，好好思考。我現在為你分別演說。什麼叫做八名普密神咒？一名功德寶藏，二名莊嚴象耳，三名善勇猛，四名勝諦云，五名成熾然，六名微妙色，七名嚴飾，八名金剛。如果有人聽聞這八名咒語，在未來的七俱胝那庾多百千大劫中，不會墮入地獄、傍生、餓鬼道。臨命終時，身心安穩，會見到諸佛和諸菩薩顯現在他面前，為他說大乘甚深法要。聽聞佛法后，必定能夠往生到兜率天（Tuṣita Heaven）侍奉彌勒菩薩（Maitreya）。將來跟隨彌勒菩薩下生到贍部洲（Jambudvīpa），行愿逐漸增長，直至究竟。』陀羅尼曰：頞𪘨(à dá 筏𪘨伐 dá 捺𪘨nà dá 朅剌𪘨qiè là 蘇謎sū mí 蘇摩sū mó 蘇契sū qì 薩縛sà pó 迦摩jiā mó 娑達泥suō dá ní 呬梨xì lí 寐梨mèi lí 薜薜梨bì bì lí 悉殿都謎xī diàn dū mí 薩縛sà pó

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park in Śrāvastī (city). He was with a great assembly of monks, twelve hundred and fifty in all, and immeasurable, countless Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (Great Bodhisattvas), as well as various kinds of beings such as gods, humans, and Asuras (demi-gods), surrounded Him from all sides. At that time, the World-Honored One said to Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva holding the vajra): 'Good son, the various supreme mantras you uphold, though powerful and fierce, are difficult to accomplish. Although they may be beneficial later, they may cause temporary harm at first. Now, there are eight secret mantras with pervasive names, whose power and virtue are vast, and whose activities are easy to accomplish. Their divine function is secret, and they cause no harm from beginning to end. Those who can uphold these mantras will surely obtain benefit and joy. I will speak them for you; are you willing to hear them?' At that time, Vajrapāṇi rejoiced and leaped with joy, prostrated himself at the Buddha's feet, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, said: 'World-Honored One, we beseech you to speak them for us.' The Buddha said: 'Listen carefully and contemplate well. I will now explain and expound them for you. What are these eight secret mantras with pervasive names? The first is 'Treasure of Merit,' the second is 'Adorned Elephant Ear,' the third is 'Good Courage,' the fourth is 'Victorious Truth Cloud,' the fifth is 'Accomplished Blaze,' the sixth is 'Subtle Color,' the seventh is 'Adornment,' and the eighth is 'Vajra.' If anyone hears these eight mantras, in the future, for seven kotis of nayutas of hundreds of thousands of great kalpas, they will not fall into the hells, the realm of animals, or the realm of hungry ghosts. When their life is about to end, their body and mind will be peaceful and secure. They will see Buddhas and Bodhisattvas appear before them, speaking the profound essentials of the Great Vehicle. Having heard the Dharma, they will surely be reborn in the Tuṣita Heaven (Joyful realm) to serve Maitreya (the future Buddha). Later, they will follow Maitreya down to Jambudvīpa (the continent where we live), and their vows and practices will gradually increase until they are perfected.' The Dharani says: Ar-da Va-da Na-da Ka-la Su-me Su-mo Su-qi Sarva-kama Sa-da-ni Hi-li Mi-li Bi-bi-li Siddham-tu-me Sarva

迦摩娑馱室遮縵怛羅般陀莎呵

佛說如是普密咒時。八千俱胝諸惡神鬼。皆生歡喜舍離毒心。歸佛法僧斷惡修善。俱詣佛所發誠諦言。愿常護持此大神咒。令受持者身心安樂。佛言善哉如汝所愿若有善男子善女人。歸佛法僧及金剛手。能處閑靜堅修梵行。親近制多受持讀誦。所求善愿無不皆得。乃至無上正等菩提。恒憶宿命無有忘失。

時薄伽梵說是經已。金剛手等一切菩薩。及諸天人阿素洛等。一切眾會聞佛所說。皆大歡喜。信受奉行。

佛陀宣說如此普遍秘密的咒語時，八千俱胝 (koṭi，印度計數單位，意為千萬) 諸惡神鬼，都心生歡喜，捨棄毒害之心，歸依佛、法、僧三寶，斷除惡行，修習善法，一同來到佛陀處所，發出真誠誓言，『愿常時護持此大神咒，令受持此咒者身心安樂。』佛陀說：『善哉！如你們所愿。若有善男子、善女人，歸依佛、法、僧三寶及金剛手 (Vajrapāṇi，佛教護法神)，能處於閑靜之處，堅定地修習梵行 (brahmacarya，清凈的行為)，親近佛塔 (caitya，佛教建築物)，受持讀誦此咒，所求一切善愿沒有不能得到的，乃至證得無上正等菩提 (anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi，最高的覺悟)，恒常憶念宿命，沒有忘失。』

當時，薄伽梵 (Bhagavān，世尊) 宣說此經完畢，金剛手等一切菩薩，以及諸天、人、阿修羅 (Asura，一種神道) 等一切大眾，聽聞佛陀所說，都非常歡喜，深信並奉行。

《八名普密陀羅尼經》

【English Translation】 English version: Kāma-sādha-śca-mān-tara-bandha-svāhā (迦摩娑馱室遮縵怛羅般陀莎呵)

When the Buddha spoke this universally secret mantra, eighty million koṭis (俱胝, a unit of measurement in India, meaning ten million) of evil gods and demons all rejoiced, abandoned their poisonous hearts, took refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, ceased evil deeds, cultivated good deeds, and together went to the Buddha's place, making sincere vows, 'May we always protect and uphold this great divine mantra, so that those who receive and hold it may have peace and happiness in body and mind.' The Buddha said, 'Excellent! As you wish. If there are good men and good women who take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and Vajrapāṇi (金剛手, a Dharma protector in Buddhism), who can dwell in quiet places, firmly cultivate brahmacarya (梵行, pure conduct), be close to caityas (制多, Buddhist structures), receive, hold, and recite this mantra, all good wishes sought will be obtained, even to attaining Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (無上正等菩提, the highest enlightenment), constantly remembering past lives without forgetting.'

At that time, the Bhagavān (薄伽梵, the World-Honored One) finished speaking this sutra, and all the Bodhisattvas, such as Vajrapāṇi, and all the devas, humans, Asuras (阿修羅, a type of deity), and all the assemblies, hearing what the Buddha said, were all very happy, deeply believed, and practiced accordingly.
