七佛父母姓字經

聞如是:
一時,佛在舍衛國,國中有婦人,子字無延,因號無延母。佛將五百比丘,到無延母家,殿上坐飯。飯已,有數十比丘,于屏處相與共語言:「佛是我所尊事神無極,佛自在意變化,何等不作知已去佛及當來佛年紀、壽命、父母、姓字、弟子幾人?所施行志意教令?」
佛以天耳聞諸比丘共說是事。佛即到諸比丘所問言:「屬者若曹共議語何等?」諸比丘言:「我思念佛最神道德妙達所知高遠,無能過佛者。佛乃知前已去佛及當來佛年紀、壽命、父母、姓字、弟子幾人、所施行志意教令。」佛言:「善哉!善哉!當爾。若曹行沙門,但當念是諸善耳。」佛言:「若曹欲聞已去佛及父母諸弟子姓字不?」諸比丘言:「愿欲聞之。」
佛言:「皆聽!第一佛字維衛佛,般泥洹已來九十一劫。第二佛字式佛,般泥洹已來三十一劫。第三佛字隨葉佛,般泥洹已來同三十一劫。是披地羅劫中,當有兩五百佛。第一者拘樓秦佛,第二佛者拘那含牟尼佛,第三者迦葉佛,第四者我字釋迦文尼佛。
「維衛佛姓拘鄰,式佛亦姓拘鄰,隨葉佛亦姓拘鄰。拘樓秦佛姓迦葉,拘那含牟尼佛亦姓迦葉,迦葉佛亦姓迦葉。今我作釋迦文尼佛姓瞿曇。
「維衛佛剎利種,式佛亦剎利種,隨葉佛亦剎利種。拘樓秦佛婆羅門種,拘那含牟尼佛亦婆羅門種,迦葉佛亦婆羅門種。今我作釋迦文尼佛剎利種。
「維衛佛,父字槃裱剎利王,母字槃頭末陀,所治國名剎末提。式佛,父字阿輪拏剎利王,母字波羅呵越提,所治國名阿樓那和提。隨葉佛,父字須波羅提和剎利王,母字耶舍越提,所治國名阿耨憂摩。拘樓秦佛,父字阿枝違兜,婆羅門種,母字隨舍迦,所在國名輪訶唎提那,王字須訶提。拘那含牟尼佛,父字耶睒缽多,婆羅門種。母字郁多羅,所在國名差摩越提,王字差摩。迦葉佛,父字阿枝達耶婆羅門種,母字檀那越提耶,所在國名波羅私,其王名其甚墮。今我作釋迦文尼佛,父字閱頭檀剎利王,母字摩訶摩耶,所治國名迦維羅衛,先大王名槃提。
「維衛佛在世壽八萬歲,式佛在世壽七萬歲,隨葉佛在世壽六萬歲,拘樓秦佛在世壽四萬歲,拘那鋡牟尼佛在世壽三萬歲,迦葉佛在世壽二萬歲。今我作釋迦文佛裁壽百歲或長或短。
「維衛佛子字須曰多鞬陀,式佛子字阿兜羅,隨葉佛子字須波羅曰,拘樓秦佛子字郁多羅,拘那含牟尼佛子字墮夷陀先那,迦葉佛子字沙多和。今我作釋迦文尼佛子字羅云。
「維衛佛得道為佛時,于波陀羅樹下。式佛得道為佛時,于分涂利樹下。隨葉佛得道為佛時,于薩羅樹下。拘樓秦佛得道為佛時,於斯利樹下。拘那含牟尼佛得道為佛時,于烏暫樹下。迦葉佛得道為佛時,于尼拘類樹下。今我作釋迦文尼佛時,于阿沛多樹下。
「侍維衛佛者字阿輪,侍式佛者字差摩竭,侍隨葉佛者字復枝葉,侍拘樓秦佛者字浮提,侍拘那含牟尼佛者字薩質,侍迦葉佛者字薩波蜜。今我作釋迦文尼佛,侍者字阿難。
「維衛佛第一弟子字為塞,第二弟子字質含。式佛第一弟子字阿比務,第二弟子字三參。隨葉佛第一弟子字佛提,第二弟子字郁多

English version: Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the country of Shravasti. There was a woman in the country who had no son, so she was called Mother Wu Yan. The Buddha, with five hundred monks, went to Mother Wu Yan's house and sat in the hall for a meal. After the meal, several dozen monks were talking to each other behind a screen: 'The Buddha is our most revered deity, possessing boundless wisdom and supernatural powers. There is nothing he cannot do. Does he know the ages, lifespans, parents, surnames, number of disciples, and the doctrines and teachings practiced by past Buddhas and future Buddhas?' The Buddha heard the monks' conversation with his divine ear. The Buddha then went to where the monks were and asked, 'What were you discussing just now?' The monks replied, 'We were thinking about the Buddha's profound wisdom and morality, which no one can surpass. The Buddha should know the ages, lifespans, parents, surnames, number of disciples, and the doctrines and teachings practiced by past Buddhas and future Buddhas.' The Buddha said, 'Excellent! Excellent! It is indeed so. As practitioners, you should focus on these virtuous teachings.' The Buddha then asked, 'Do you want to hear about the surnames of past Buddhas, their parents, and disciples?' The monks replied, 'We would very much like to hear.' The Buddha said, 'Listen carefully! The first Buddha was named Vipashyin Buddha, and it has been ninety-one kalpas since his Nirvana. The second Buddha was named Sikhin Buddha, and it has been thirty-one kalpas since his Nirvana. The third Buddha was named Vishvabhu Buddha, and it has also been thirty-one kalpas since his Nirvana. In this Bhadrakalpa, there will be two thousand five hundred Buddhas. The first is Krakucchanda Buddha, the second is Kanakamuni Buddha, the third is Kashyapa Buddha, and the fourth is me, Shakyamuni Buddha.' 'Vipashyin Buddha's surname was Kondanna, Sikhin Buddha's surname was also Kondanna, and Vishvabhu Buddha's surname was also Kondanna. Krakucchanda Buddha's surname was Kashyapa, Kanakamuni Buddha's surname was also Kashyapa, and Kashyapa Buddha's surname was also Kashyapa. Now, my surname, Shakyamuni Buddha, is Gautama.' 'Vipashyin Buddha was of the Kshatriya caste, Sikhin Buddha was also of the Kshatriya caste, and Vishvabhu Buddha was also of the Kshatriya caste. Krakucchanda Buddha was of the Brahmin caste, Kanakamuni Buddha was also of the Brahmin caste, and Kashyapa Buddha was also of the Brahmin caste. Now, I, Shakyamuni Buddha, am of the Kshatriya caste.' 'Vipashyin Buddha's father was King Panbiao of the Kshatriya caste, his mother was Pan Tou Mo Tuo, and the country he ruled was named Chamo Ti. Sikhin Buddha's father was King Arunna of the Kshatriya caste, his mother was Po Luo He Yue Ti, and the country he ruled was named A Lou Na He Ti. Vishvabhu Buddha's father was King Su Po Luo Ti He of the Kshatriya caste, his mother was Ye She Yue Ti, and the country he ruled was named A Nou You Mo. Krakucchanda Buddha's father was A Zhi Wei Dou of the Brahmin caste, his mother was Sui She Jia, the country he was in was named Lun He Li Ti Na, and the king was Su He Ti. Kanakamuni Buddha's father was Ye Shan Bo Duo of the Brahmin caste, his mother was Yu Duo Luo, the country he was in was named Cha Mo Yue Ti, and the king was Cha Mo. Kashyapa Buddha's father was A Zhi Da Ye of the Brahmin caste, his mother was Tan Na Yue Ti Ye, the country he was in was named Po Luo Si, and the king was Qi Shen Duo. Now, my father, Shakyamuni Buddha, is King Yue Tou Tan of the Kshatriya caste, my mother is Maha Maya, the country I rule is named Kapilavastu, and the previous king was Pan Ti.' 'Vipashyin Buddha's lifespan was eighty thousand years, Sikhin Buddha's lifespan was seventy thousand years, Vishvabhu Buddha's lifespan was sixty thousand years, Krakucchanda Buddha's lifespan was forty thousand years, Kanakamuni Buddha's lifespan was thirty thousand years, and Kashyapa Buddha's lifespan was twenty thousand years. Now, my lifespan, Shakyamuni Buddha, is only one hundred years, more or less.' 'Vipashyin Buddha's son was named Su Yue Duo Jian Tuo, Sikhin Buddha's son was named A Tou Luo, Vishvabhu Buddha's son was named Su Po Luo Yue, Krakucchanda Buddha's son was named Yu Duo Luo, Kanakamuni Buddha's son was named Duo Yi Tuo Xian Na, and Kashyapa Buddha's son was named Sha Duo He. Now, my son, Shakyamuni Buddha, is named Rahula.' 'When Vipashyin Buddha attained enlightenment, it was under a Patala tree. When Sikhin Buddha attained enlightenment, it was under a Pundarika tree. When Vishvabhu Buddha attained enlightenment, it was under a Sala tree. When Krakucchanda Buddha attained enlightenment, it was under a Sirisa tree. When Kanakamuni Buddha attained enlightenment, it was under an Udumbara tree. When Kashyapa Buddha attained enlightenment, it was under a Nigrodha tree. Now, when I, Shakyamuni Buddha, attained enlightenment, it was under an Ashvattha tree.' 'The attendant of Vipashyin Buddha was named A Lun, the attendant of Sikhin Buddha was named Cha Mo Jie, the attendant of Vishvabhu Buddha was named Fu Zhi Ye, the attendant of Krakucchanda Buddha was named Fu Ti, the attendant of Kanakamuni Buddha was named Sa Zhi, and the attendant of Kashyapa Buddha was named Sa Po Mi. Now, my attendant, Shakyamuni Buddha, is named Ananda.' 'Vipashyin Buddha's first disciple was named Sai, and the second disciple was named Zhi Han. Sikhin Buddha's first disciple was named A Bi Wu, and the second disciple was named San Can. Vishvabhu Buddha's first disciple was named Fo Ti, and the second disciple was named Yu Duo'

佛告諸比丘言:「佛智不可計量亦不可稱,能知七佛本所生父母國王所施行。」
佛告諸比丘:「經不可不學,道不可不為。佛者譬如大海水中船師,數千萬人皆仰以得渡海,佛教天下皆使為善,得道度世亦如是。」
諸比丘聞經歡喜,作禮而退

English version: The first disciple of Krakucchanda Buddha was named Samghika, and the second disciple was named Bharadvaja. The first disciple of Kanakamuni Buddha was named Suratha, and the second disciple was named Uttara. The first disciple of Kashyapa Buddha was named Jitasena, and the second disciple was named Bharadvaja. Now, I, Shakyamuni Buddha, have my first disciple named Shariputra, and my second disciple named Maudgalyayana. Vipashyin Buddha held three assemblies to preach the Dharma to the monks. In the first assembly, 100,000 monks attained Arhatship; in the second assembly, 90,000 monks attained Arhatship; and in the third assembly, 80,000 monks attained Arhatship. Sikhin Buddha also held three assemblies to preach the Dharma. In the first assembly, 90,000 monks attained Arhatship; in the second assembly, 80,000 monks attained Arhatship; and in the third assembly, 70,000 monks attained Arhatship. Vishvabhu Buddha held two assemblies to preach the Dharma. In the first assembly, 70,000 monks attained Arhatship; and in the second assembly, 60,000 monks attained Arhatship. Krakucchanda Buddha held one assembly to preach the Dharma, and 40,000 monks attained Arhatship. Kanakamuni Buddha held one assembly to preach the Dharma, and 30,000 monks attained Arhatship. Kashyapa Buddha held one assembly to preach the Dharma, and 20,000 monks attained Arhatship. Now, I, Shakyamuni Buddha, held one assembly to preach the Dharma, and 1,250 monks attained Arhatship. The Buddha told the monks, 'The wisdom of the Buddha is immeasurable and cannot be weighed. It can know the birthplaces, parents, and the kingdoms ruled by the seven Buddhas of the past.' The Buddha told the monks, 'The scriptures must be studied, and the path must be practiced. The Buddha is like a captain of a ship in the vast ocean, upon whom millions of people rely to cross the sea. The Buddha's teachings cause all in the world to do good, and to attain enlightenment and liberation from the world, it is the same.' The monks, hearing the Buddha's teachings, were filled with joy, bowed to the Buddha, and withdrew.
