English version: The Sutra of Saptasūryodaya Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove, the Anathapindika's monastery in the country of Vaishali. At that time, the World Honored One said to the Bhikshus, 'Listen carefully! All conditioned things are impermanent, subject to arising and ceasing, without firmness or reality, not ultimate, not reliable, and not enjoyable. You should know this and diligently strive for liberation. Bhikshus! Time does not stay, it changes from moment to moment. After a long time, when the end of the kalpa approaches, the sky will not rain, and the human world will be arid. All the trees, forests, grains, crops, flowers, and fruits on the earth will wither and fail to grow. Bhikshus should know that all conditioned things are impermanent, subject to arising and ceasing, without firmness or reality, not ultimate, not reliable, and not enjoyable. You should diligently strive for liberation. Bhikshus! When the end of the kalpa approaches, two suns will appear, illuminating the world, and the heat will increase. All the trees, forests, roots, stems, and leaves on the earth will be destroyed. Bhikshus! Such impermanence cannot be maintained for long. You should now practice diligently and quickly seek liberation.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! When the end of the kalpa approaches, three suns will appear, illuminating the world, and the heat will be even more intense than before, causing even greater damage to all things. All the small rivers and streams, and all the springs on the earth will dry up completely, leaving not a drop of water. Bhikshus should know that such impermanence cannot be avoided by anyone. Therefore, I now earnestly advise you to quickly seek liberation. Furthermore, Bhikshus! When the end of the kalpa approaches, four suns will appear, illuminating the world, and the heat will be even more intense than before. All the Anavatapta Lake and the four great rivers, the Ganges, the Indus, the Sita, and the Vakshu, will dry up completely, leaving not a drop of water. Bhikshus should know that such impermanence cannot be avoided by anyone. You should reflect on this yourselves, do not be lazy, and quickly seek liberation.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! When the end of the kalpa approaches, five suns will appear, illuminating the world, and the heat will be even more intense than before. All the water in the great oceans will gradually decrease, by one hundred yojanas, two hundred yojanas, three hundred yojanas, up to one thousand yojanas. The heat of the sun will become even more intense, and the rain from the sky will become even more scarce. The sea will then decrease to two thousand yojanas, three thousand yojanas, and even seven thousand yojanas. After such a decrease, the remaining water in the sea will be seven thousand yojanas.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! The seawater of seven thousand yojanas will gradually decrease to six thousand yojanas, five thousand yojanas, four thousand yojanas, and even seven hundred yojanas.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! The seawater of seven hundred yojanas will gradually decrease to six hundred yojanas, five hundred yojanas, four hundred yojanas, and even seven yojanas.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! The seawater of seven yojanas will gradually decrease to six yojanas, five yojanas, four yojanas, and even seven krosas.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! The seawater of seven krosas will gradually decrease to six krosas, five krosas, four krosas, and even seven tala trees.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! The seawater of seven tala trees will gradually decrease to six tala trees, five tala trees, four tala trees, and even seven human heights.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! The seawater of seven human heights will gradually decrease to six human heights, five human heights, four human heights, and even one human height, to the neck, to the ribs, to the navel, to the waist, to the knees, to the ankles, to the width of a finger, and then it will immediately dry up. At this time, only the earth, mountains, and rivers will remain in the world, and nothing else.' The Buddha said, 'Bhikshus! All conditioned things are impermanent, subject to arising and ceasing, without reality or firmness. You should quickly seek liberation from this.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! When the end of the kalpa approaches, six suns will appear, the earth will be hot, the mountains and rocks will melt, and Mount Sumeru will emit a slight smoke, like the black smoke rising from a burning brick kiln. At this time, there will be nothing in the world worth observing. Bhikshus! Such impermanence, subject to arising and ceasing, does not stay. You should diligently strive, abandon your attachment and desire, and quickly seek liberation.' 'Furthermore, Bhikshus! When the end of the kalpa approaches, seven suns will appear, the heat will reach its extreme, and suddenly a great fire will arise, like the burning of ten bundles of firewood, a hundred bundles, a thousand bundles, ten thousand bundles, a hundred million bundles, and even the small chiliocosm and the six heavens of desire will all become a sea of fire. After burning the desire realm, the first dhyana of the Brahma world will also ignite, burning all the palaces of the container world, one hundred yojanas high, or two hundred yojanas, three hundred yojanas, and even seven thousand yojanas high. All these palaces will become a sea of fire. The newly born Brahmas in the neighboring second dhyana, seeing the flames below, will be greatly frightened and seek to escape the fire disaster.'

At that time, the deva of the Second Dhyana Heaven said, 'You have come to my palace because of your past good deeds. Just be at ease and do not be alarmed. The fire below will soon be extinguished.' After saying this, a great wind suddenly arose and blew away the smoke and flames, and all the ashes were gone. It was like someone lighting a lamp with ghee in the empty space. After the flame goes out, there is no trace of black smoke or ash. It was the same after that fire was extinguished.」 The Buddha said, 'Bhikkhus! The conditioned dharmas are impermanent, they are inverted dharmas, not firm or real, not ultimate, not enjoyable. One should be far from greed and love, and quickly seek liberation. If there is no greed and love, how could the earth and the heavens be destroyed and disappear for any reason?' 'Furthermore, bhikkhus! Just like in the past, a Buddha appeared named Wonderful Eye Tathagata, who had countless disciples of the Sravaka and many Brahma devas with supernatural powers who were free from desire. That Wonderful Eye Tathagata taught the Sravakas the profound and clear Dharma of pure Brahma conduct. At that time, the bhikkhus, having perfected all the precepts, practiced as they wished. Some practiced the Four Immeasurables, cut off the defilements of the lower realm of desire, and were born in the Brahma world. Some were born in the Paranirmitavasavartin Heaven, some in the Nirmanarati Heaven, some in the Tusita Heaven, some in the Yama Heaven, some in the Trayastrimsa Heaven, some in the Four Heavenly Kings Heaven, some in the families of Kshatriyas, some in the families of Brahmins, and some in the families of elders and householders. At that time, Wonderful Eye Tathagata thought, 'Now I will cause these Sravaka disciples to practice together, be born together, and have the same power, entering the Second Dhyana of Maitreya.' After thinking this, he entered the Second Dhyana of Maitreya. At that time, countless hundreds and thousands of Sravakas and non-Buddhists all practiced this samadhi and were born together in the Brahma Heaven above.' The Buddha said, 'Bhikkhus! The Wonderful Eye Tathagata of the past was not a different Buddha, but my own past self. Although those beings were born in the Second Dhyana Heaven and avoided the fire disaster of the lower realm, they had not left the seeds of greed, hatred, and delusion, and could not be liberated from birth, old age, sickness, and death. Bhikkhus! The Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, is the teacher of gods and humans, free from all afflictions such as greed, hatred, and delusion, liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, and suffering. He also teaches the pure practice of Dharma to the Brahma devas and Sravaka disciples according to their capacities. After hearing this, some completely cut off the afflictions of discrimination and those born with desire, and attained the Anagami fruit; some completely cut off the afflictions of discrimination and the six categories of those born with desire, and attained the Sakadagami fruit; some, although they have cut off discrimination, have not cut off the afflictions born with desire, and attained the Srotapanna fruit, and after receiving the rewards of gods and humans for seven lives, they become Arhats.' The Buddha said, 'Bhikkhus! It is through such renunciation, such Brahma conduct, and such attainment of fruition that one can be liberated from the sea of suffering and achieve liberation. Now you must set your minds, abandon greed and love, and seek the path of enlightenment.' At that time, after the World Honored One had spoken this Dharma, the bhikkhus who heard what the Buddha had said were very happy in their hearts, and they believed and practiced accordingly.
