聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。佛便告諸比丘：「善馬有三相，用入官可給御、中王意，得名為官馬。何等為三相？一者有善馬意自能走，二者有力，三者端正好色，是為三相，善馬中入官。善人亦有三相，自得善意名聞亦豪，舉人敬難之，可受人禮能福天下。何等為三相？有善人得意能走、有力、有端正色。何等為善人得意能走？有善人得意是苦如有知，為是習、為是盡敗、為是道識，如是善人得意為走。何等為善人得意為力？為有弊惡態當爲斷，盡力求之，精進求者意棄惡，未起弊惡態不復起，未起善意當爲起，已起善意當爲止不忘減稍稍增多，行意俱善行盡力求，制意棄惡，如是善人得力。何等為善人得意有色端正？是間有善人得意避五樂、避弊惡，能到四棄得行，如是善人得意有色。是為三因緣諦行，善人得意名聞為能主舉人難之，可取禮天下如是。」

現代漢語譯本 如是我聞： 一時，佛陀在舍衛國的祇樹給孤獨園。佛陀告訴眾比丘：『良馬有三種特徵，可以被選入官府供駕馭，符合君王的心意，被稱為官馬。哪三種特徵呢？第一，有良馬的意願，能夠自己奔跑；第二，有力量；第三，外形端正美好。這就是良馬的三種特徵，可以被選入官府。善人也有三種特徵，自己獲得善意，名聲顯赫，受人尊敬，可以接受別人的禮敬，能夠為天下帶來福祉。哪三種特徵呢？善人獲得善意，能夠奔跑，有力量，外形端正美好。什麼是善人獲得善意能夠奔跑呢？善人獲得善意，對於苦難有認知，知道這是習性，知道這是導致衰敗的原因，知道這是通往解脫的道路。這樣的善人獲得善意，就是能夠奔跑。什麼是善人獲得善意有力量呢？對於已經產生的惡劣行為，應當斷除，盡力去追求，精進地追求，意念上拋棄惡行，對於尚未產生的惡劣行為，不再讓它產生；對於尚未產生的善意，應當讓它產生；對於已經產生的善意，應當保持而不忘記，逐漸增多。行為和意念都向善，盡力去追求，控制意念，拋棄惡行。這樣的善人就獲得了力量。什麼是善人獲得善意外形端正美好呢？世間有善人獲得善意，避開五種享樂，避開惡劣的行為，能夠達到四種捨棄的境界，並付諸實踐。這樣的善人獲得善意，外形就端正美好。這就是三種因緣的真實修行，善人獲得善意，名聲顯赫，能夠成為人們的主導，受人尊敬，可以接受天下的禮敬，就是這樣。』 佛陀如是說。
English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park in Shravasti. The Buddha then told the monks, 'A good horse has three characteristics, which allow it to be selected for official use, to be ridden and to please the king, and thus it is called an official horse. What are the three characteristics? First, it has the will of a good horse and can run on its own; second, it has strength; third, it has a dignified and beautiful appearance. These are the three characteristics of a good horse, which allow it to be selected for official use. A good person also has three characteristics: they attain good intentions, their reputation is renowned, they are respected by others, they can receive the respect of others, and they can bring blessings to the world. What are the three characteristics? A good person attains good intentions, can run, has strength, and has a dignified and beautiful appearance. What does it mean for a good person to attain good intentions and be able to run? A good person who attains good intentions has knowledge of suffering, knows it is a habit, knows it is the cause of decline, and knows it is the path to liberation. Such a good person who attains good intentions is able to run. What does it mean for a good person to attain good intentions and have strength? For any evil behavior that has arisen, they should cut it off, strive to pursue good, diligently seek to abandon evil intentions, and for any evil behavior that has not yet arisen, they will not let it arise; for any good intention that has not yet arisen, they should make it arise; for any good intention that has already arisen, they should maintain it without forgetting, gradually increasing it. Both actions and intentions are directed towards good, striving to pursue it, controlling intentions, and abandoning evil. Such a good person attains strength. What does it mean for a good person to attain good intentions and have a dignified and beautiful appearance? In this world, a good person who attains good intentions avoids the five pleasures, avoids evil behavior, and is able to reach the four stages of abandonment and put them into practice. Such a good person who attains good intentions has a dignified appearance. These are the three causes of true practice. A good person who attains good intentions has a renowned reputation, is able to lead people, is respected by others, and can receive the respect of the world, and that is how it is.' The Buddha spoke thus.
