爾時世尊,在舍衛國給孤獨精舍之內,敷座而坐。有諸苾芻及天龍八部人非人等,圍繞世尊,默然合掌聽佛所說。
爾時,世尊告諸苾芻:「我今稱讚諸大聲聞,能于佛法清凈修持,而於自果皆具己德。汝等諦聽,善思念之,吾當為汝次第宣說。
「諸苾芻!我弟子中有大聲聞,棄捨王位久為出家,最初悟道梵行第一,憍陳如苾芻是。
「復有聲聞少貪常喜持頭陀行,大迦葉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞具大辯才智慧第一,舍利弗苾芻是。
「復有聲聞修持精進具大神通,目乾連苾芻是。
「復有聲聞有所觀矚得大天眼,阿你嚕馱苾芻是。
「復有聲聞具足定慧多聞第一,阿難苾芻是。
「復有聲聞善解軌儀能持律藏,優波離苾芻是。
「復有聲聞于大眾中能說妙法,富樓那彌多羅尼子苾芻是。
「復有聲聞坐臥等物悉皆具足,捺羅摩*余末羅子苾芻是。
「復有聲聞說法之音如師子吼,賓度羅跋啰墮舍苾芻是。
「復有聲聞善解經律而能論義,迦旃延苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能于佛法信解第一,末朅哩苾芻是。
「復有聲聞修持得果光顯氏族,迦留陀夷苾芻是。
「復有聲聞有所演說具大妙音,跋捺哩哥苾芻是

當時,世尊在舍衛國的給孤獨精舍內,鋪設座位而坐。有眾多比丘以及天龍八部、人非人等,圍繞在世尊周圍,默默合掌聽佛說法。
這時,世尊告訴眾比丘:『我今天要稱讚各位大聲聞,他們能在佛法中清凈修行,並且在各自的果位上都具備了自身的德行。你們仔細聽,好好思考,我將為你們依次宣說。』
『各位比丘!我的弟子中有大聲聞,他們捨棄王位很久而出家,最初悟道,梵行第一,是憍陳如比丘。
『又有聲聞,少欲知足,常喜好修持頭陀行,是大迦葉比丘。
『又有聲聞,具備大辯才,智慧第一,是舍利弗比丘。
『又有聲聞,修持精進,具備大神通,是目犍連比丘。
『又有聲聞,有所觀察,能得大天眼,是阿那律陀比丘。
『又有聲聞,具足定慧,多聞第一,是阿難比丘。
『又有聲聞,善解儀軌,能持律藏,是優波離比丘。
『又有聲聞,在大眾中能說微妙之法,是富樓那彌多羅尼子比丘。
『又有聲聞,坐臥等物都完全具備,是捺羅摩*余末羅子比丘。
『又有聲聞,說法之音如獅子吼,是賓度羅跋啰墮舍比丘。
『又有聲聞,善解經律,並且能論議,是迦旃延比丘。
『又有聲聞,能于佛法信解第一,是末朅哩比丘。
『又有聲聞,修持得果,光顯氏族,是迦留陀夷比丘。
『又有聲聞,有所演說,具備大妙音,是跋捺哩哥比丘。』

The Sutra of the Merits of the Arhats Spoken by the Buddha
Translated by the Tripitaka Master, Chao San Da Fu, Shi Guang Lu Qing, Ming Jiao Da Shi, Minister Fa Xian, by Imperial Decree from the Western Heaven
At that time, the World Honored One was in the Jeta Grove of Sravasti, seated on a prepared seat. There were many Bhikshus, as well as Devas, Nagas, and the Eight Classes of beings, both human and non-human, surrounding the World Honored One, silently joining their palms and listening to the Buddha's teachings.
Then, the World Honored One addressed the Bhikshus: 'Today, I will praise the great Sravakas, who are able to cultivate purely in the Dharma and possess their own merits in their respective attainments. Listen carefully and contemplate well, and I will explain them to you in order.'
'Bhikshus! Among my disciples, there are great Sravakas who renounced their royal positions long ago to become monks. The first to attain enlightenment and the foremost in pure conduct is Bhikshu Ajnatakaundinya.'
'There is another Sravaka who is content with little, always joyful, and practices the ascetic dhuta, this is Bhikshu Mahakasyapa.'
'There is another Sravaka who possesses great eloquence and is foremost in wisdom, this is Bhikshu Sariputra.'
'There is another Sravaka who cultivates diligently and possesses great supernatural powers, this is Bhikshu Maudgalyayana.'
'There is another Sravaka who, through observation, has attained the great divine eye, this is Bhikshu Anuruddha.'
'There is another Sravaka who is complete in samadhi and wisdom, and is foremost in learning, this is Bhikshu Ananda.'
'There is another Sravaka who is skilled in monastic rules and can uphold the Vinaya, this is Bhikshu Upali.'
'There is another Sravaka who can expound the wonderful Dharma in the assembly, this is Bhikshu Purna Maitrayaniputra.'
'There is another Sravaka who has all the necessary requisites for sitting and lying down, this is Bhikshu Nala (Marayaputra).'
'There is another Sravaka whose voice in teaching the Dharma is like a lion's roar, this is Bhikshu Pindola Bharadvaja.'
'There is another Sravaka who is skilled in the Sutras and Vinaya and can debate, this is Bhikshu Katyayana.'
'There is another Sravaka who is foremost in faith and understanding of the Dharma, this is Bhikshu Makakila.'
'There is another Sravaka who, through cultivation, has attained the fruit and glorified his clan, this is Bhikshu Kaludayi.'
'There is another Sravaka who, in his expositions, possesses a great and wonderful voice, this is Bhikshu Bhadrika.'

「復有聲聞善解美語而能談論,童子迦葉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞四威儀中具大精進,率嚕拏酤胝嚩蹉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞於一切處能具速通,嚩哩呬哥苾芻是。
「復有聲聞善能進趣悟道得果,唧哩野哥苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能具火界神通,修伽陀苾芻是。
「復有聲聞舍于上族而樂出家,賢苾芻是。
「復有聲聞釋氏王族而捨出家,優樓頻螺迦葉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞于靈塔處而先受請,布蘭那苾芻是。
「復有聲聞隨所敷演而有大智,俱絺羅苾芻是。
「復有聲聞威儀端謹身貌圓滿,烏波細那末朅梨子苾芻是。
「復有聲聞唯于佛法解義第一,半托迦苾芻是。
「復有聲聞於四諦理能斷疑惑,大半托迦苾芻是。
「復有聲聞言直無隱警誡諸苾芻,劫賓那苾芻是。
「復有聲聞常行警誡諸苾芻尼,難那哥苾芻是。
「復有聲聞人多歸仰恒得財利,細嚩羅苾芻是。
「復有聲聞諸根隱密人所莫測,難努苾芻是。
「復有聲聞善持戒律清凈無缺,羅睺羅苾芻是。
「復有聲聞于所受身少病少惱,未酤羅苾芻是。
「復有聲聞常行佈施而能不滅解空第一,須菩提苾芻是。
「復有聲聞於一切時而能少語,昂誐帝哩野苾芻是。
「復有聲聞于宿命智具足,獲得所有往昔種種之事悉能解說,輸毗多苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能修凈行善住山巖,護國苾芻是。

English version 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is good at understanding beautiful language and can discuss it, that is the Bhikṣu Kumāra Kāśyapa. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who has great diligence in the four kinds of deportment, that is the Bhikṣu Ruruṇākoṭivatsa. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who can quickly understand everything, that is the Bhikṣu Varīhika. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is good at advancing and realizing the path, attaining the fruit, that is the Bhikṣu Jīriyaka. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who possesses the supernatural power of the fire element, that is the Bhikṣu Śugata. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who abandons his noble birth and delights in leaving home, that is the Bhikṣu Bhadra. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is a prince of the Śākya clan, abandoning his royal family to leave home, that is the Bhikṣu Uruvilvā Kāśyapa. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is first invited at the stupa, that is the Bhikṣu Pūrṇa. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who has great wisdom according to what he expounds, that is the Bhikṣu Kauṣṭhila. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka whose deportment is dignified and whose appearance is complete, that is the Bhikṣu Upasena Makhaliputra. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is the foremost in understanding the meaning of the Buddha's teachings, that is the Bhikṣu Cūḍapanthaka. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who can dispel doubts about the Four Noble Truths, that is the Bhikṣu Mahāpanthaka. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka whose words are straightforward and without concealment, who admonishes the Bhikṣus, that is the Bhikṣu Kapiṇna. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who constantly admonishes the Bhikṣuṇīs, that is the Bhikṣu Nandaka. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka to whom many people turn and admire, and who therefore often receives material benefits, that is the Bhikṣu Śīvala. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka whose senses are hidden and unfathomable, that is the Bhikṣu Nanda. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is good at upholding the precepts, pure and without flaw, that is the Bhikṣu Rāhula. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who has few illnesses and afflictions in his body, that is the Bhikṣu Nakula. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who constantly practices giving and is able to not be attached to emptiness, and is the foremost in understanding emptiness, that is the Bhikṣu Subhūti. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who is able to speak little at all times, that is the Bhikṣu Aṅgatīrya. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who has full knowledge of past lives, who can obtain and explain all kinds of past events, that is the Bhikṣu Śubhita. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka who can cultivate pure conduct and dwell in the mountains, that is the Bhikṣu Guṇarakṣa. 『Again, there is a Śrāvaka whose sitting and sleeping items are all sufficient, that is the Bhikṣu Gavāṃpati.

「復有聲聞修行能斷已生煩惱,那羅陀苾芻是。
「復有聲聞而能止息未生煩惱,彌企哥苾芻是。」

「復有聲聞能于苦中善行悲行,畢陵伽婆蹉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞具大舍行,婆那梨苾芻是。
「復有聲聞具大舍力,得勝苾芻是。
「復有聲聞于善惡法悉能了達,羯諾迦嚩蹉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞於世貪慾悉能速斷,難陀苾芻是。
「復有聲聞于所瞋恚便能速除,彌𡁠羅苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能修勝果速斷我慢,摩那嚩苾芻是。

「復有聲聞得妙法義能次第說,誐嚩捺多苾芻是。
「復有聲聞於一切時說法無倦,割閉怛計苾芻是。
「復有聲聞恒肅容儀常懷歡喜,無能勝苾芻是。
「復有聲聞常具多喜,正覺苾芻是。
「復有聲聞唯于智慧而得解脫,善生苾芻是。
「復有聲聞而能獲得定慧解脫,嚩澀波苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能斷其貪,昝(惹敢切)謨哥苾芻是。
「復有聲聞具善解脫,吠啰吒星賀苾芻是。
「復有聲聞清凈修持知已信解,叉摩哥苾芻是。
「復有聲聞於世間中最得殊勝,摩呬哥苾芻是。
「復有聲聞智解高深能破外論,最勝苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能具正見善破魔軍,奶訖啰咩𡁠苾芻是。
「復有聲聞能于智慧善破愚迷,惹伽迦葉苾芻是。
「復有聲聞常行平等,仆虞哥苾芻是。

爾時,世尊說是頌已,復告諸苾芻曰:「於此眾中而有十大聲聞,我今稱說,汝應善聽。
「所謂憍陳如苾芻、迦旃延苾芻、富樓那苾芻、薄拘羅苾芻、離婆多苾芻、盎堀摩羅苾芻、耶輸那苾芻、蘇惹多苾芻、酤胝羯蘭拏苾芻吠舍羅苾芻,如是十大聲聞,於此眾中而為上首。」

'The one who aspires to the great fruit, having faith in renunciation, is the mother of Sekhara Bhikkhuni. 'The one who has planted good roots in past lives, possessing great merit, is Rahula's mother, Bhikkhuni Yasodhara. 'The one who constantly aspires to practice, possessing great diligence, is Bhikkhuni Kesini. 'The one who can quickly understand the fruits of her practice, is Bhikkhuni Bhadda Kundalakesa. 'The one with profound wisdom, skilled in understanding the sutras and vinaya, is Bhikkhuni Sundari Nanda.' These bhikkhunis are the leaders among the assembly. Then, the World Honored One again told the bhikkhus: 'Listen carefully! I will now speak of the upasakas, who also cultivate their own practices in faith. The ones who first developed faith and took refuge in the Three Jewels are Upasaka Pusa and Upasaka Bhadra, who reside in Uruvela. The one who fully practices the pure precepts is Upasaka Nakula's father, who resides in Bhaginisa. The one who constantly makes offerings to the Sangha is Anathapindika, who resides in Sravasti. The one who cultivated holy causes in the past, possessing great merit, is Sudatta, who resides in Sravasti. The one who constantly offers food to the Sangha is the foremost elder, who resides in Vaisali. The one who constantly makes various offerings to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha is Samvriddha, who resides in Rajagriha. The one who constantly offers medicine to the sick is Mahana, who resides in Kapilavastu. The one who constantly practices compassion in faith is Mitrak, who resides in Mahasena. The ones who are skilled in teaching the assembly with the four means of attraction are Citta and Atavaka, who both reside in the wilderness. The one who, from the first development of faith, possesses great wisdom is Upali, who resides in Nalanda. The one who can speak of the Dharma in the assembly like a lion's roar is Vira, who resides in Rajagriha. The one who possesses great wisdom and can refute the heretical teachers is Nirdhuma, who resides in Vaisali. The one who constantly expounds the wonderful Dharma in the assembly is Citra, who resides in Soparaka. The one whose speech is full of great eloquence is King Senajit, who resides in Sravasti. The one who is the sharpest in faith is King Kalu's brother, who resides in Sravasti. The one who possesses great wisdom in faith is Upasaka Devadatta, who resides in Sravasti. The one who can uphold the Brahmacarya in faith is Upasaka Purna, who resides in Sravasti. The one who is full of treasures, with abundant storehouses, gathering many people, and is the foremost in learning is King Bimbisara of Magadha, who resides in Rajagriha. The one who constantly generates the Bodhi mind towards the Three Jewels, and has many children in the world is Jivaka, who resides in Rajagriha. The one who is diligent in faith and can quickly understand is Prince Abhaya, who resides in Rajagriha. The one who has cut off the root of suffering and has faith and understanding is King Ajatasatru, the son of Vaidehi of Magadha, who resides in Rajagriha.' These upasakas are the leaders among the assembly.

爾時世尊復告諸苾芻:「汝等善聽!我今稱說烏波薩吉,于信心中亦修己行。所謂初發信心歸佛法僧,難那烏波薩吉,及難那力烏波薩吉是,住烏嚕尾螺。能起初心信解戒法,諾酤羅長者母是,住于婆擬數。恒于眾僧常行佈施,毗舍佉母烏波薩吉是,住于舍衛城。宿施因豐具大福德,哩提羅長者母是,住于舍衛城。修治湯藥施病苦者,大軍長者婦是,住波羅奈城。于疾病者而能承事,善愛長者婦是,住于波羅奈城。久已發信心常行於慈行,奢摩嚩帝烏波薩吉是,住憍睒彌國。而於眾會中多聞能第一,酤沒儒怛啰烏波薩吉是,住憍睒彌國。善能敷妙法而有大辯才,善意王女是,住于舍衛城。久發信心能具大智,尊那王女是,住于王舍城。而於色相中端嚴居第一,正覺王女是,住于王舍城。能生信解意善發菩提心,沒怛啰長者婦是,住于王舍城。于所住世多饒其子,𡁠嚩哥長者婦是,住于王舍城。恒善能修持而具大精進,率嚕拏長者婦是,住于瞻波城。恒于眾僧中能施住止處,難那長者女是,住于竹林中。久發信心深解禪定,哥路烏波薩吉是,住于竹林中。如是烏波薩吉,于大眾中而為上首。」
