佛說四泥犁經

聞如是:
一時婆伽婆,在舍衛城祇樹給孤獨園。爾時,世尊告諸比丘:「有四大泥犁。云何為四?諸比丘!提舍大泥犁,瞿波離比丘大泥犁,禘婆達兜大泥犁,末佉梨大泥犁。
「諸比丘!彼提舍大泥犁,身出火焰長二十肘;諸比丘!瞿波犁大泥梨,身出火焰長三十肘;諸比丘!調達大泥犁,身出火焰長四十肘;末佉梨大泥梨身出火焰長六十肘。諸有人民,欲求安隱獲其義者,若三十大海水灌彼身上,彼海水盡火不滅,猶如融銅。若有人以二十渧水著彼融銅中,彼水渧速疾滅,彼提舍比丘亦復如是,火焰不滅。若復有人慾求安隱獲其義者,復以二十大海水灌其身上,彼水速盡。所以然者?彼提舍比丘愚人,遮比丘僧使一日不食,以此因緣,使提舍比丘入大地獄。諸有比丘,于瞿波離比丘,有一人起欲使安隱獲其義者,以三十大海水灌其身上,彼海水速盡。譬如二日所融銅;或有一人以三十渧水著融銅中,消盡無餘此亦如是。瞿波離比丘愚人,或有人起欲使獲安隱義者,以三十大海水灌其身上,彼大海水速盡。所以然者?彼瞿波離比丘愚人,謗舍利弗、目乾連比丘,身壞命終生三惡道,墮缽頭摩地獄。以此因緣,瞿波離比丘入大泥梨。彼調達大泥梨,若復有人慾使獲安隱義者,復以四十大海水灌其身上,彼大海速盡彼火不滅
現代漢語譯本 我聽聞是這樣的: 一時,佛陀在舍衛城的祇樹給孤獨園。當時,世尊告訴眾比丘:『有四大泥犁。哪四個呢?諸比丘!提舍大泥犁,瞿波離比丘大泥犁,禘婆達兜大泥犁,末佉梨大泥犁。』 『諸比丘!那提舍大泥犁,身上出的火焰長二十肘;諸比丘!瞿波離大泥犁,身上出的火焰長三十肘;諸比丘!調達大泥犁,身上出的火焰長四十肘;末佉梨大泥犁身上出的火焰長六十肘。諸位人民,如果想求得安穩獲得利益,即使以三十個大海的水灌到他們身上,那些海水也會耗盡而火焰不滅,就像融化的銅一樣。如果有人把二十滴水滴到那融化的銅中,那些水滴會迅速消失,那提舍比丘也是這樣,火焰不會熄滅。如果有人想求得安穩獲得利益,再用二十個大海的水灌到他身上,那些水也會迅速耗盡。為什麼呢?因為那提舍比丘愚蠢,阻止比丘僧團一天不吃飯,因為這個因緣,使提舍比丘墮入大地獄。諸位比丘,對於瞿波離比丘,如果有人想讓他安穩獲得利益,用三十個大海的水灌到他身上,那些海水也會迅速耗盡。譬如兩個太陽所融化的銅;如果有人把三十滴水滴到融化的銅中,也會消盡無餘,這情況也是如此。瞿波離比丘愚蠢,如果有人想讓他獲得安穩利益,用三十個大海的水灌到他身上,那些海水也會迅速耗盡。為什麼呢?因為那瞿波離比丘愚蠢,誹謗舍利弗、目犍連比丘,身壞命終后墮入三惡道,墮入缽頭摩地獄。因為這個因緣,瞿波離比丘墮入大泥犁。那調達大泥犁,如果有人想讓他獲得安穩利益,再用四十個大海的水灌到他身上,那些大海的水也會迅速耗盡,他的火焰不會熄滅。
English version The Buddha Speaks of the Four Naraka Sutra Translated by the Śramaṇa Zhutannulan of the Western Regions of the Eastern Jin Dynasty Thus have I heard: At one time, the Bhagavan was in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika in Shravasti. At that time, the World Honored One told the bhikshus: 'There are four great narakas. What are the four? Bhikshus! The Tishya great naraka, the Gopaali bhikshu great naraka, the Devadatta great naraka, and the Makharali great naraka.' 'Bhikshus! The Tishya great naraka, flames emanate from his body, twenty cubits long; Bhikshus! The Gopaali great naraka, flames emanate from his body, thirty cubits long; Bhikshus! The Devadatta great naraka, flames emanate from his body, forty cubits long; The Makharali great naraka, flames emanate from his body, sixty cubits long. If people wish to seek peace and obtain benefit, even if thirty great oceans of water were poured on their bodies, the water would be exhausted and the fire would not be extinguished, like molten copper. If someone were to put twenty drops of water into that molten copper, those drops of water would quickly disappear, and so it is with the Tishya bhikshu, the flames would not be extinguished. If someone wishes to seek peace and obtain benefit, and pours another twenty great oceans of water on his body, that water would quickly be exhausted. Why is that? Because that Tishya bhikshu was foolish, preventing the bhikshu sangha from eating for one day, and because of this cause, the Tishya bhikshu fell into the great hell. Bhikshus, regarding the Gopaali bhikshu, if someone wished to bring him peace and obtain benefit, and poured thirty great oceans of water on his body, that water would quickly be exhausted. It is like copper melted by two suns; if someone were to put thirty drops of water into the molten copper, it would be completely consumed, and so it is. The Gopaali bhikshu was foolish, if someone wished to bring him peace and obtain benefit, and poured thirty great oceans of water on his body, that water would quickly be exhausted. Why is that? Because that Gopaali bhikshu was foolish, slandering the bhikshus Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, and after his body was destroyed and his life ended, he fell into the three evil paths, falling into the Paduma hell. Because of this cause, the Gopaali bhikshu fell into the great naraka. That Devadatta great naraka, if someone wished to bring him peace and obtain benefit, and poured another forty great oceans of water on his body, that water would quickly be exhausted, and his flames would not be extinguished.'
。譬如三日融銅,若有人以四十渧水著融銅中,即時消盡無餘,此亦如是。調達愚人,若有人起欲使獲安隱義,以四十大海水灌其身上,彼大海水速盡,彼火不滅。所以然者?調達愚人慾害如來,殺阿羅漢比丘尼,壞亂比丘僧,身壞命終趣三惡道,生阿鼻地獄中,由此因緣,使彼調達比丘入大地獄,身出火焰長四十肘。諸有比丘,彼末佉梨大泥犁,若有一人起欲使獲安隱義,以六十大海水灌其身上,彼海水速盡,彼火不滅。譬如四日所融銅,若有人以六十渧水著融銅中,即時消盡無餘,彼末佉梨亦復如是。若有一人起欲使獲安隱義者,以六十大海水灌其身上,彼大海水速盡,此火不滅。所以然者?此末佉梨愚人,教受百拘梨人使行邪見,以此因緣,使末佉梨身出火焰長六十肘。如是,諸比丘!四大泥犁。」
時,諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行
現代漢語譯本:譬如熔鍊了三天的銅,如果有人用四十滴水滴入熔銅中,水會立刻消失得無影無蹤,這種情況也是如此。提婆達多這個愚人,如果有人想要讓他獲得安穩,用四十個大海的水澆在他身上,那些海水會迅速消失,他身上的火焰不會熄滅。這是為什麼呢?因為提婆達多這個愚人想要加害如來,殺害阿羅漢比丘尼,破壞比丘僧團,他身死之後會墮入三惡道,生於阿鼻地獄中。因為這個因緣,使得提婆達多比丘進入大地獄,身上冒出的火焰長達四十肘。各位比丘,那個末伽梨大地獄,如果有人想要讓他獲得安穩,用六十個大海的水澆在他身上,那些海水會迅速消失,他身上的火焰不會熄滅。譬如熔鍊了四天的銅,如果有人用六十滴水滴入熔銅中,水會立刻消失得無影無蹤,那個末伽梨也是如此。如果有人想要讓他獲得安穩,用六十個大海的水澆在他身上,那些海水會迅速消失,他身上的火焰不會熄滅。這是為什麼呢?因為這個末伽梨愚人,教唆一百個拘梨人讓他們行邪見,因為這個因緣,使得末伽梨身上冒出的火焰長達六十肘。各位比丘,這就是四大地獄。 當時,各位比丘聽聞佛陀所說,歡喜地奉行。
English version: For example, if copper has been melted for three days, and someone pours forty drops of water into the molten copper, the water will immediately vanish without a trace. This is similar. If someone wanted to bring peace to the foolish Devadatta and poured the water of forty great oceans on him, that ocean water would quickly disappear, and the fire on him would not be extinguished. Why is this so? Because the foolish Devadatta wanted to harm the Tathagata, kill the Arhat bhikkhuni, and disrupt the bhikkhu sangha. After his death, he will fall into the three evil realms and be born in Avici hell. Because of this cause, the bhikkhu Devadatta enters the great hell, and the flames coming from his body are forty cubits long. Bhikkhus, in that Makkhali great hell, if someone wanted to bring peace to him and poured the water of sixty great oceans on him, that ocean water would quickly disappear, and the fire on him would not be extinguished. For example, if copper has been melted for four days, and someone pours sixty drops of water into the molten copper, the water will immediately vanish without a trace. That is how it is with Makkhali. If someone wanted to bring peace to him and poured the water of sixty great oceans on him, that ocean water would quickly disappear, and the fire on him would not be extinguished. Why is this so? Because this foolish Makkhali taught one hundred Koliya people to follow wrong views. Because of this cause, the flames coming from Makkhali's body are sixty cubits long. Thus, bhikkhus, are the four great hells. At that time, the bhikkhus, having heard what the Buddha said, joyfully practiced it.
