聞如是:

一時,婆伽婆在舍衛祇樹給孤獨園。爾時,阿那邠邸有七子,無篤信于佛法眾,彼不歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,亦不改殺生,亦不改不與取,亦不改他淫,亦不改妄語,亦不改飲酒。爾時,阿那邠邸長者告彼七子言:「汝等今可自歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,亦莫殺生,莫不與取,莫他妻淫,莫妄語,莫飲酒,皆悉莫犯。」彼子作是語:「我不堪任歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,莫殺、亦不與取、他淫、妄語、飲酒,皆不堪任。」阿那邠邸長者言:「我當賜汝千兩金,汝等可歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,改莫殺生、不與取、他淫、妄語、飲酒,皆悉改之。」爾時,七子已得千兩金,便歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,改不殺生、不盜、不他淫、不妄語、不飲酒。

時阿那邠邸長者,與彼七子各賜千兩金已,授三自歸、受五戒,便往園至世尊所,頭面禮足在一面坐。時阿那邠邸白世尊言:「我於此間有七子,無篤信意,亦無歡喜心於佛法眾,不自歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,亦不改殺生,不改盜,不改他淫,不改妄語,不改飲酒。世尊!時七子各各賜千兩金,便使歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,而授五戒。云何世尊?彼七子頗有福善諸功德,使後有所獲不?」

世尊告曰:「善哉善哉!長者!多饒益眾生,欲安隱眾生天人得安

現代漢語譯本 如是我聞: 一時,佛陀在舍衛城的祇樹給孤獨園。當時,給孤獨長者有七個兒子,他們對佛法僧三寶沒有堅定的信仰,不皈依佛、不皈依法、不皈依僧,也不改變殺生、偷盜、邪淫、妄語、飲酒的惡習。當時,給孤獨長者告誡他的七個兒子說:『你們現在應當皈依佛、皈依法、皈依僧,也不要殺生、不要偷盜、不要邪淫、不要妄語、不要飲酒,都不要犯這些戒律。』他的兒子們回答說:『我們不能皈依佛、皈依法、皈依僧,也不能不殺生、不偷盜、不邪淫、不妄語、不飲酒,這些我們都做不到。』給孤獨長者說:『我將賜給你們每人一千兩黃金,你們可以皈依佛、皈依法、皈依僧,改變殺生、偷盜、邪淫、妄語、飲酒的惡習,都改掉它們。』當時,七個兒子得到了一千兩黃金,便皈依了佛、皈依了法、皈依了僧,改變了不殺生、不偷盜、不邪淫、不妄語、不飲酒的惡習。 當時,給孤獨長者給他的七個兒子每人賜予一千兩黃金后,為他們授了三皈依、受了五戒,然後前往祇園,來到世尊的住所,頂禮佛足,在一旁坐下。當時,給孤獨長者對世尊說:『我這裡有七個兒子,他們沒有堅定的信仰,對佛法僧三寶也沒有歡喜心,不皈依佛、不皈依法、不皈依僧,也不改變殺生、偷盜、邪淫、妄語、飲酒的惡習。世尊!我給這七個兒子每人賜予一千兩黃金,才使他們皈依了佛、皈依了法、皈依了僧,並受了五戒。世尊,這七個兒子是否會有福德善功,使他們將來有所收穫呢?』 世尊回答說:『善哉善哉!長者!你做了很多饒益眾生的事情,想要讓眾生和天人都得到安穩。'

English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the Bhagavan was in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park, in Shravasti. At that time, Anathapindika had seven sons who had no firm faith in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. They did not take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, or the Sangha, nor did they refrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, or drinking alcohol. Then, Anathapindika the elder told his seven sons, 'You should now take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and also refrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and drinking alcohol. Do not commit any of these transgressions.' His sons replied, 'We are unable to take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, nor can we refrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, or drinking alcohol. We cannot do any of these things.' Anathapindika the elder said, 'I will give each of you a thousand pieces of gold. You can then take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and change your ways by refraining from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and drinking alcohol. Change all of them.' At that time, the seven sons received a thousand pieces of gold, and they took refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and changed their ways by refraining from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and drinking alcohol. Then, Anathapindika the elder, after giving each of his seven sons a thousand pieces of gold, had them take the Three Refuges and receive the Five Precepts. He then went to the Jeta Grove to where the World Honored One was, bowed his head to the ground at his feet, and sat to one side. At that time, Anathapindika said to the World Honored One, 'I have seven sons here who have no firm faith, nor do they have any joy in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. They do not take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, or the Sangha, nor do they refrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, or drinking alcohol. World Honored One! I gave each of these seven sons a thousand pieces of gold, and only then did they take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and receive the Five Precepts. World Honored One, will these seven sons have any merit and good deeds, so that they may gain something in the future?' The World Honored One replied, 'Excellent, excellent! Elder! You have done much to benefit sentient beings, desiring to bring peace and security to sentient beings and devas.'


。長者!彼七子緣是功德,諸善功德皆悉具足,諦聽彼七子所因功德諸善所獲果報,我今當說。此北方有國,城名石室,國土豐熟人民熾盛,彼有伊羅波多羅藏,無數百千金銀、珍寶、車𤦲、馬瑙、真珠、琥珀、水精、琉璃、及諸眾妙寶。彼揵陀賴國人,七歲中七月七日,或以裓盛抱戴,隨其所欲皆悉費用,然彼伊羅缽多羅藏無所減少。若復長者!彼七子及此伊羅缽多羅大寶藏,彼七千兩金,百倍、千倍、百千倍、無數倍,皆悉不及汝七子所獲功德。長者!復有國名迦陵𤦲,有城名蜜絺羅,穀米豐熟人民熾盛,彼有寶藏名般籌,無數珍寶金銀、車𤦲、馬瑙、真珠、水精、琉璃、珊瑚、琥珀,乃至迦陵𤦲國人民,七歲七月七日中,隨意所欲擔負多少,無所減少,然彼迦陵𤦲國有所減少。若復長者七子,所有七千兩金,及般籌大寶藏,于彼七千兩金,百倍、千倍、百千倍、無數倍,皆悉不及七子七千兩金,所獲功德而無與等。復有長者!鞞提師國,城名須賴吒,賓伽羅大寶藏,無數百千珍寶藏,金銀、車𤦲、馬瑙、真珠、琥珀、水精、琉璃,于彼鞞提師國,七歲七月七日中,隨其所欲擔負多少,皆負持去,于彼賓迦羅寶藏無所減少。若復長者七子七千兩金,及賓迦羅寶藏,此七子七千兩金,百倍、千倍、百千倍、無數倍,皆悉不及七子所獲功德,不可稱計。復有長者!加尸國波羅奈城,彼有藏名蠰伽(龍名),無數金銀、珍寶、車𤦲、馬瑙、水精、琉璃、真珠、琥珀,彼七子七千兩金,及此蠰伽大寶藏,彼七子七千兩金所獲功德,百倍、千倍、百千倍、無數倍不如也

English version: Elder! The merits of those seven children are the embodiment of all virtuous deeds, fully complete. Listen carefully to the good rewards these seven children have obtained due to their merits. There is a country in the north, with a city named Stone Chamber, where the land is fertile and the people are prosperous. There is a treasure called Iropadara, containing countless gold, silver, jewels, tridacna, agate, pearls, amber, crystal, lapis lazuli, and various other precious treasures. The people of Gandhara, on the seventh day of the seventh month for seven years, could use bags to carry or hold these treasures, taking whatever they desired, yet the Iropadara treasure would not diminish. Elder! The seven children and the great Iropadara treasure, even if it were seven thousand taels of gold, would not be comparable to the merits your seven children have obtained, not even by a hundredfold, a thousandfold, a hundred thousandfold, or countless times. Elder! There is another country called Kalinga, with a city named Mithila, where grains are abundant and the people are prosperous. There is a treasure called Pancha, containing countless treasures, gold, silver, tridacna, agate, pearls, crystal, lapis lazuli, coral, amber, and so on. The people of Kalinga, on the seventh day of the seventh month for seven years, could take whatever they desired, no matter how much they carried, the treasure would not diminish, but the treasure of Kalinga would eventually decrease. Elder, the seven thousand taels of gold that your seven children possess, and the great Pancha treasure, even if it were seven thousand taels of gold, would not be comparable to the merits your seven children have obtained, not even by a hundredfold, a thousandfold, a hundred thousandfold, or countless times; their merits are incomparable. Elder! There is another country called Bhedisa, with a city named Surashtra, where there is a great treasure called Pingala, containing countless treasures, including gold, silver, tridacna, agate, pearls, amber, crystal, and lapis lazuli. The people of Bhedisa, on the seventh day of the seventh month for seven years, could take whatever they desired, no matter how much they carried, the treasure would not diminish. Elder, the seven thousand taels of gold that your seven children possess, and the Pingala treasure, even if it were seven thousand taels of gold, would not be comparable to the merits your seven children have obtained, not even by a hundredfold, a thousandfold, a hundred thousandfold, or countless times; their merits are immeasurable. Elder! There is another country called Kashi, with a city named Varanasi, where there is a treasure called Rangga (a dragon's name), containing countless gold, silver, jewels, tridacna, agate, crystal, lapis lazuli, pearls, and amber. The seven thousand taels of gold that your seven children possess, and the great Rangga treasure, even if it were seven thousand taels of gold, would not be comparable to the merits your seven children have obtained, not even by a hundredfold, a thousandfold, a hundred thousandfold, or countless times.

。長者!置此乾陀越國人,舍此迦陵𤦲人,舍此鞞提施人,舍此迦尸人,猶如此閻浮提十六大國男女大小,彼盡隨其所欲擔負取此四大寶藏,金銀、珍寶、車𤦲、馬瑙、真珠、琥珀、水精、琉璃,彼於七歲七月七日中,隨其所欲皆悉擔負持去,彼四大藏無所減少。長者!彼七子七千兩金,及此四大寶藏,百倍、千倍、百千倍、無數倍皆悉不及。」

是時世尊,便說偈言:

「伊羅缽乾陀,  蜜絺及般籌, 賓伽及須賴,  蠰伽波羅奈。 如此四寶藏,  種種珍寶滿, 無數不相及,  所作功德果。」

爾時,世尊與阿那邠邸,說微妙法勸令歡喜。時阿那邠邸長者,已從如來聞微妙法,即從座起偏露右肩右膝著地,叉手向佛白世尊言:「愿世尊,當受我請及比丘僧,欲設甘露飲食,為彼七子故。」時世尊默然受阿那邠邸請。時阿那邠邸已見世尊默然受請,頭面禮足便退而去,還家即其日,施設甘露飲食,施設甘饌飲食已即敷坐具,為佛比丘僧故而白時到,「今正是時,愿世尊臨顧。」是時世尊知時已到,便著衣持缽,比丘僧前後圍繞,入舍衛城詣阿那邠邸家,即就座坐及比丘僧。時,阿那邠邸長者及七子便至世尊所,頭面禮足在一面坐,時,阿那邠邸長者白世尊言:「我有此七子,各賜千兩金,使自歸命佛、歸命法、歸命比丘僧,使受五戒。今愿世尊,與此等說法,使我等七子,于如來所使逮等見。」時,世尊告阿那邠邸長者言:「如是長者!如是長者!」時阿那邠邸長者,見佛比丘僧坐定,及七子以甘饌飲食而供養之

現代漢語譯本:長者啊!讓乾陀越國的人,捨棄迦陵伽國的人,捨棄鞞提施國的人,捨棄迦尸國的人,就像這閻浮提十六大國的男女老少,他們都隨心所欲地搬運這四大寶藏,金銀、珍寶、車渠、瑪瑙、珍珠、琥珀、水晶、琉璃,他們在七年七個月七天中,隨心所欲地搬運拿走,這四大寶藏也不會減少。長者啊!那七個兒子擁有的七千兩黃金,與這四大寶藏相比,百倍、千倍、百千倍、無數倍都比不上。 這時,世尊便說了偈語: 『伊羅缽乾陀,蜜絺及般籌,賓伽及須賴,蠰伽波羅奈。 這四大寶藏,充滿各種珍寶,無數倍都比不上,所作功德的果報。』 當時,世尊為阿那邠邸宣說微妙的佛法,勸導他歡喜。當時阿那邠邸長者,聽聞如來說的微妙佛法后,立即從座位上起身,袒露右肩,右膝著地,合掌向佛稟告世尊說:『愿世尊接受我的邀請,以及比丘僧眾,我想準備甘露飲食,爲了我的七個兒子。』當時世尊默然接受了阿那邠邸的邀請。當時阿那邠邸看到世尊默然接受邀請,便頂禮佛足後退下,回到家中當天,就準備了甘露飲食,準備好美味的食物后,就鋪設好座位,爲了佛陀和比丘僧眾,然後稟告時間已到,『現在正是時候,愿世尊光臨。』當時世尊知道時間已到,便穿上袈裟,拿著缽,比丘僧眾前後圍繞,進入舍衛城,來到阿那邠邸的家中,就坐下來,比丘僧眾也坐下。當時,阿那邠邸長者和他的七個兒子來到世尊面前,頂禮佛足后在一旁坐下,當時,阿那邠邸長者稟告世尊說:『我有這七個兒子,我給他們每人一千兩黃金,讓他們自己皈依佛、皈依法、皈依比丘僧,讓他們受持五戒。現在希望世尊,為他們說法,使我的七個兒子,在如來這裡能夠獲得正見。』當時,世尊告訴阿那邠邸長者說:『是這樣的,長者!是這樣的,長者!』當時阿那邠邸長者,看到佛陀和比丘僧眾都坐定,就用美味的食物供養他們。

English version: 'O elder! Let the people of the Gandhara country, forsake the people of Kalinga, forsake the people of Videha, forsake the people of Kashi, just like the men and women, young and old, of the sixteen great countries of Jambudvipa, they all freely carry these four great treasures, gold, silver, jewels, conch shells, agate, pearls, amber, crystal, and lapis lazuli. Within seven years, seven months, and seven days, they can carry them away as they wish, and these four great treasures will not diminish. O elder! The seven thousand taels of gold possessed by those seven sons cannot compare to these four great treasures, not even by a hundredfold, a thousandfold, a hundred thousandfold, or countless times.' At that time, the World Honored One spoke a verse: 'Iravata, Michi, and Pancha, Binga and Surai, and Sangha Parana. These four great treasures, filled with various jewels, cannot compare countless times to the fruits of meritorious deeds.' At that time, the World Honored One spoke the subtle Dharma to Anathapindika, encouraging him to rejoice. Then, the elder Anathapindika, having heard the subtle Dharma from the Tathagata, immediately rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and with his palms together, said to the World Honored One: 'May the World Honored One accept my invitation, along with the assembly of monks. I wish to prepare ambrosial food for the sake of my seven sons.' At that time, the World Honored One silently accepted Anathapindika's invitation. When Anathapindika saw that the World Honored One had silently accepted, he bowed at the feet of the Buddha and withdrew. Returning home that very day, he prepared ambrosial food. After preparing the delicious food, he laid out seats for the Buddha and the assembly of monks, and then announced that the time had come, 'Now is the right time, may the World Honored One come.' At that time, the World Honored One, knowing that the time had come, put on his robe, took his bowl, and surrounded by the assembly of monks, entered the city of Shravasti and went to Anathapindika's house. He sat down, and the assembly of monks also sat down. Then, the elder Anathapindika and his seven sons came to the World Honored One, bowed at his feet, and sat to one side. At that time, the elder Anathapindika said to the World Honored One: 'I have these seven sons, and I have given each of them a thousand taels of gold, so that they may take refuge in the Buddha, take refuge in the Dharma, and take refuge in the Sangha, and that they may receive the five precepts. Now, I wish that the World Honored One would preach the Dharma to them, so that my seven sons may attain right view in the presence of the Tathagata.' At that time, the World Honored One said to the elder Anathapindika: 'It is so, elder! It is so, elder!' Then, the elder Anathapindika, seeing that the Buddha and the assembly of monks were seated, offered them delicious food.

。時阿那邠邸長者及七子,甘饌飲食飯佛比丘僧,見世尊食竟除去缽,時,阿那邠邸長者便至世尊所,頭面禮足在一面坐。時彼七子,如來與說微妙法,而世尊知阿那邠邸七子至心聽法,諸佛世尊常應所說法苦習盡道,時世尊與彼阿那邠邸長者七子,說如是法,各于坐上諸塵垢盡,無有瑕穢得法眼生。彼已見法,逮得深法無有狐疑,亦無猶預想得無所畏,以解了如來深法,自歸命佛、歸命法、歸命眾,而受五戒。時世尊與阿那邠邸長者及七子,復重說法已,便從座起而去。

是時,阿那邠邸長者及彼七子,聞佛所說,歡喜奉行

English version: At that time, the elder Anathapindika and his seven sons offered delicious food to the Buddha and the monastic community. Seeing the Blessed One finish his meal and put away his bowl, Anathapindika approached the Blessed One, bowed at his feet, and sat down to one side. Then, the Tathagata expounded the subtle Dharma to his seven sons. The Blessed One, knowing that Anathapindika's seven sons were sincerely listening to the Dharma, as is the usual practice of all Buddhas, taught the Four Noble Truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path. Thus, the Blessed One taught such Dharma to Anathapindika and his seven sons, and each of them, while seated, had all defilements removed, without any blemish, and gained the Dharma eye. Having seen the truth, they attained the profound Dharma, without any doubt or hesitation, desiring to attain fearlessness. Because they understood the profound Dharma of the Tathagata, they took refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and received the five precepts. Then, the Blessed One, having again taught the Dharma to Anathapindika and his seven sons, rose from his seat and departed. At that time, Anathapindika and his seven sons, having heard what the Buddha had said, joyfully practiced it.
