西秦沙門聖堅奉 詔譯
聞如是:
一時,佛在比羅勒國,與千二百五十比丘俱,及眾菩薩、國王、大臣、人民,長者、居士、清信、士女不可稱計,一時來會。
佛告諸比丘:「皆悉寂靜定意聽!我念前世,初求得菩薩道時,戒行普慈,精進一心,智慧善權方便不可稱說,諸天、龍神、帝王、人民無能行者。」
阿難聞佛所言,更整衣服,長跪白佛:「愿欲聞之。」
佛告阿難:「乃往過去無央數世,時有一菩薩名曰慈慧,救濟群生,常行四等心,度世危厄,愍育苦人。於是,處在兜率天上教授天人。常以晝夜各三時三昧定意,思惟三界,照觀十方天下、人民善惡之道。孝養父母,敬奉三尊,供侍師長,修諸功德,皆悉明見,五道分明。
「時,迦夷國中有一長者,孤無兒子,夫妻兩目皆盲,心願入山求無上慧,修清凈志信樂虛閑。菩薩念言:『此人發意欲學妙道,而兩目盲無所視見,若入山者或墮溝坑,或逢毒蟲所見危害,若我壽終當爲作子,供養父母終其年壽。』即便往生盲父母家,為其作子。父母歡喜愛之甚重,本發道意欲行入山,以生子故,便樂世間
現代漢語譯本 西秦沙門聖堅奉詔譯 我聽聞是這樣的: 一時,佛在比羅勒國,與一千二百五十位比丘在一起,還有眾多的菩薩、國王、大臣、人民,長者、居士、清信士女,人數多得無法計算,一時都來集會。 佛告訴各位比丘:『你們都安靜下來,集中精神聽!我回憶前世,剛開始尋求菩薩道的時候,戒行普遍慈悲,精進一心,智慧善巧方便,無法用言語來形容,諸天、龍神、帝王、人民沒有誰能做到。』 阿難聽了佛說的話,整理了一下衣服,長跪著對佛說:『希望能夠聽聞此事。』 佛告訴阿難:『在過去無量無數世的時候,有一位菩薩名叫慈慧,救濟眾生,常常實行四種平等心,度過世間的危難,憐憫養育受苦的人。當時,他住在兜率天上教導天人。常常在白天和夜晚各三次進入三昧禪定,思考三界,觀察十方天下、人民的善惡之道。孝養父母,尊敬供奉三寶,侍奉師長,修習各種功德,都清楚明白,五道分明。』 『當時,在迦夷國中有一位長者,孤獨沒有兒子,夫妻倆眼睛都瞎了,心裡希望入山尋求無上智慧,修習清凈的志向,喜歡清靜閒適。菩薩心想:『這個人發願想要學習妙道,但是兩眼失明,什麼都看不見,如果入山,可能會掉進溝里,或者遇到毒蟲受到傷害,如果我壽命終了,應當做他的兒子,供養父母直到他們去世。』於是,就投生到盲人父母的家中,做他們的兒子。父母非常喜歡他,愛他很深,原本發願想要入山修行,因為有了兒子,就留戀世俗了。
English version The Śyāma Jātaka Sutra Spoken by the Buddha Translated by the Śramaṇa Sage Firm of Western Qin by Imperial Decree Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the country of Pirolaka, together with twelve hundred and fifty monks, as well as numerous Bodhisattvas, kings, ministers, people, elders, lay practitioners, and devout men and women, an uncountable number, who had all gathered together. The Buddha told the monks, 'All of you be quiet and listen attentively! I recall in my past lives, when I first sought the Bodhisattva path, my precepts and practices were universally compassionate, my diligence was single-minded, my wisdom and skillful means were ineffable, and no gods, dragons, emperors, or people could match them.' Ānanda, hearing the Buddha's words, adjusted his robes, knelt down, and said to the Buddha, 'I wish to hear about this.' The Buddha told Ānanda, 'In the immeasurable past, there was a Bodhisattva named Compassionate Wisdom, who rescued all beings, constantly practiced the four immeasurable minds, overcame the dangers of the world, and compassionately nurtured those who suffered. At that time, he was in the Tuṣita Heaven, teaching the gods and humans. He would enter samadhi three times each day and night, contemplating the three realms, and observing the paths of good and evil of all people in the ten directions. He was filial to his parents, revered the Three Jewels, served his teachers, cultivated all virtues, and clearly understood the five paths of existence.' 'At that time, in the country of Kāyī, there was an elder who was childless, and both he and his wife were blind. They wished to enter the mountains to seek supreme wisdom, cultivate pure aspirations, and enjoy tranquility. The Bodhisattva thought, 『This person has resolved to learn the wondrous path, but is blind and cannot see. If he enters the mountains, he may fall into a ditch or encounter poisonous insects and be harmed. If my life ends, I should become his son, and support my parents until their death.』 Thus, he was born into the home of the blind parents, becoming their son. The parents were very fond of him and loved him deeply. They had originally intended to enter the mountains to practice, but because they had a son, they became attached to the world.'
。子年七歲號字曰睒,睒至孝仁慈,奉行十善:不殺、不盜、不淫、不欺誑、不飲酒、不妄語、不嫉妒、通道不疑、晝夜精進,奉侍父母如人侍天,言常含笑不傷人意,行則應法不妄傾邪,於是父母即大歡悅,無復憂愁。
「睒年過十歲,睒自長跪,白父母言:『本發大意欲入深山,求志虛寂無上之道,豈以子故而絕本願。人居世間無常百變,命非金石對至無期,愿如本意宜本先志,自隨父母俱共入山,侍養之宜不失時節。』父母報睒:『子之孝順天自知之,不違本誓,便即入山。』睒以家中所有財寶,皆大布施諸貧窮者,便與父母俱共入山。
「睒到山中,以柴草作屋,施置床蓐,不寒不熱恒得其宜。入山一年眾果豐實,食之甘美,泉水涌出清而且涼;池中蓮華五色精明,栴檀雜香,樹木豐盛,香氣倍常。飛鳥常集,奇妙異類,皆作種種音樂之聲,娛樂父母;師子、熊羆、虎狼、毒蟲,慈心相向無相傷害。食草飲水無復恐懼,獐鹿、眾鳥皆來附近,與睒音聲共相哀和娛樂之音。睒至孝慈,蹈地常恐地痛,天、神、人、鬼皆來擁護此三道人;三道人者,一心定意,無復憂愁。
「睒常與父母取百種果以食父母,泉水無乏
現代漢語譯本:睒在七歲時,有了字號叫睒。睒非常孝順仁慈,奉行十善:不殺生、不偷盜、不邪淫、不欺騙、不飲酒、不妄語、不嫉妒、堅信佛道不懷疑、日夜精進修行。他侍奉父母如同侍奉上天,說話總是面帶微笑,不傷害別人的心意,行為舉止都符合法度,不偏斜不正。因此,他的父母非常高興,不再有憂愁。 睒年過十歲時,他自己長跪在父母面前,對他們說:『我本來發下宏願,想要進入深山,尋求虛無寂靜的無上之道,難道能因為我而斷絕我原本的願望嗎?人活在世上,無常變化,生命並非金石般堅固,終有盡時。我希望能夠按照我最初的意願,先實現我原本的志向,然後和父母一起進入山中,侍奉供養你們,不耽誤時節。』他的父母對睒說:『你的孝順,上天自然知曉,不違揹你原本的誓言,就進入山中吧。』睒把他家中所有的財寶,都大量佈施給貧窮的人,然後就和父母一起進入山中。 睒到了山中,用柴草搭建房屋,鋪設床鋪,不冷不熱,非常舒適。入山一年,各種果實豐收,吃起來甘甜美味,泉水涌出,清澈涼爽;池塘中蓮花五彩繽紛,光彩奪目,栴檀散發著各種香味,樹木茂盛,香氣比平時更加濃郁。飛鳥經常聚集,各種奇特的鳥類,都發出各種美妙的音樂聲,來娛樂他的父母;獅子、熊、虎、狼、毒蟲,都慈心相向,不互相傷害。它們吃草喝水,不再感到恐懼,獐鹿、各種鳥類都來到附近,和睒的聲音一起,發出和諧悅耳的娛樂之聲。睒非常孝順慈愛,走路時總是擔心踩痛地面,天神、人、鬼都來擁護這三位修行人;這三位修行人,一心專注,不再有憂愁。 睒經常和父母一起採摘各種水果來供養父母,泉水也從不匱乏。
English version: When Shan was seven years old, he was given the name Shan. Shan was extremely filial and kind, practicing the ten virtues: not killing, not stealing, not engaging in sexual misconduct, not deceiving, not drinking alcohol, not lying, not being jealous, believing in the Buddhist path without doubt, and diligently practicing day and night. He served his parents as if serving heaven, always speaking with a smile, never hurting others' feelings, and behaving in accordance with the law, without being biased or improper. Therefore, his parents were very happy and no longer had any worries. When Shan was over ten years old, he knelt before his parents and said to them, 'I originally made a great vow to enter the deep mountains and seek the supreme path of emptiness and tranquility. How can I abandon my original wish because of myself? People live in this world with constant changes, and life is not as solid as gold or stone, and will eventually end. I hope to fulfill my original intention first, and then enter the mountains with my parents, serving and supporting you without delay.' His parents said to Shan, 'Your filial piety is known by heaven. Do not violate your original vow, and enter the mountains.' Shan gave all the treasures in his home to the poor, and then entered the mountains with his parents. When Shan arrived in the mountains, he built a house with firewood and grass, and laid out bedding, which was neither cold nor hot, and very comfortable. After a year in the mountains, various fruits were abundant, sweet and delicious to eat, and spring water gushed out, clear and cool. In the pond, lotuses were colorful and dazzling, sandalwood emitted various fragrances, and the trees were lush, with a fragrance that was even stronger than usual. Birds often gathered, and various strange birds made all kinds of beautiful music to entertain his parents. Lions, bears, tigers, wolves, and poisonous insects were all kind to each other and did not harm each other. They ate grass and drank water, no longer feeling fear. Deer and various birds came nearby, and together with Shan's voice, they made harmonious and pleasant sounds of entertainment. Shan was very filial and loving, always afraid of hurting the ground when he walked. Gods, humans, and ghosts all came to protect these three practitioners. These three practitioners were focused and no longer had any worries. Shan often picked various fruits with his parents to offer to them, and the spring water was never lacking.
。時,父母渴欲得飲水,睒被鹿皮衣提瓶行汲水,獐鹿、眾鳥亦往飲水,不相畏難。時,有迦夷國王入山射獵,王見水邊有諸群鹿,放弓射之。箭誤中睒,正射其胸。被毒箭已,舉身皆痛,便大呼言:『誰持一箭殺三道人?』王聞人聲,即便下馬往到睒前,睒謂王言:『象坐牙死,犀坐其角死,翠坐其毛,獐鹿坐皮肉,我無牙角、無毛、無皮肉不可啖,今有何罪橫見射殺?』王問睒言:『卿是何人?被鹿皮衣與禽獸無異。』睒言:『我是王國中人,與盲父母俱來學道二十餘年,未曾而為虎狼毒蟲所見枉害,今我便為王所射殺。』
「當爾之時,大風暴起,吹折樹木,百鳥悲鳴,師子、熊羆、走獸之輩皆大號呼,動一山中;日無精光,流泉為竭,眾華萎死,雷電動地。時,盲父母即自驚起曰:『是何變異?睒行取水經久不還,將無為毒蟲之所害耶。禽獸悲鳴,音聲號呼不如常時,風起四面樹木摧折,必有災異。』時,王怖懅大自悔責:『本射眾鹿誤相中傷,射殺道人其罪甚重,坐貪少肉而受此殃,愿以珍寶以救子命。』
「時,王便前欲拔出箭,箭深不出,百鳥禽獸四面雲集,皆大號呼動一山中

English version: At that time, when his parents were thirsty and wanted to drink water, Sham, wearing a deerskin garment, carried a bottle to fetch water. Deer, various birds also went there to drink, not fearing each other. At that time, a king of Kashi entered the mountains to hunt. The king saw many deer by the water and shot arrows at them. An arrow mistakenly hit Sham, right in his chest. Having been struck by the poisoned arrow, his whole body was in pain, and he cried out loudly, 'Who is it that has killed three ascetics with one arrow?' The king heard the human voice and immediately dismounted and went to Sham. Sham said to the king, 'Elephants die for their tusks, rhinoceroses die for their horns, kingfishers die for their feathers, and deer die for their skin and flesh. I have no tusks, horns, feathers, or skin and flesh to be eaten. What crime have I committed to be shot and killed by you?' The king asked Sham, 'Who are you? You wear a deerskin garment and are no different from beasts.' Sham said, 'I am a person from the kingdom, and I came here with my blind parents to practice the Way for more than twenty years. I have never been harmed by tigers, wolves, or poisonous insects. Now I have been shot and killed by you.' At that time, a great wind arose, breaking trees, hundreds of birds cried sadly, lions, bears, and other beasts all roared loudly, shaking the entire mountain; the sun lost its light, the springs dried up, the flowers withered, and thunder shook the earth. At that time, the blind parents immediately woke up in alarm and said, 'What is this change? Sham has been gone for a long time to fetch water, could he have been harmed by poisonous insects? The beasts are crying sadly, their voices are different from usual, the wind is blowing from all directions, and the trees are being broken. There must be a disaster.' At that time, the king was terrified and full of remorse, blaming himself: 'I originally shot at the deer, but mistakenly injured a person, killing an ascetic. The sin is too great. For the sake of a little meat, I have suffered such a disaster. I am willing to use treasures to save his life.' At that time, the king went forward to pull out the arrow, but the arrow was deeply embedded and could not be pulled out. Various birds and beasts gathered from all directions, all crying loudly, shaking the entire mountain.
。王益怖懅,支節皆動,睒語王言:『非王之過!自我宿罪緣對所致,我不惜身,但念我盲父母耳,年既衰老,兩目復盲,一旦無我,亦當終沒,無瞻視者,以是之故,自懊惱耳。』當爾之時,諸天、龍、神皆為肅動。王又重言:『我寧自入地獄之中,自受此罪,使睒身活。』長跪向睒悔過陳言:『若子終沒,我不還國,便住山中,供養卿盲父母,如卿在時,勿以為憂,諸天、龍、神皆當證知,不負此誓。』
「睒聞王誓:『雖被毒箭,心喜意悅雖死不恨,以我父母累王供養,王當罪滅,得福無量。』王曰:『卿當語我父母之處,及子未死吾欲知之。』睒即指示:『從是徑去,去此不遠當見草屋,我之父母在其中止。王徐徐往,勿令父母驚動怖懅,以善方便解語其意,王當爲我上白父母,無常今至,當就後世。我不惜命,念盲父母年既衰老、兩目復盲,一旦無我無所依仰,以是懊惱自酷毒耳。我死自分宿罪所致,無可得脫,今自懺悔,從無數劫有身以來,所行眾惡,於此罪滅,愿與父母世世相值,不相遠離,當令父母終保年壽,勿有憂患,天龍、鬼神常隨護助,災害消滅,所欲應意,無為自然。』
「王將數人詣父母所,王去之後,睒奄死矣。百鳥、禽獸四面雲集,皆大號呼,繞睒尸,上舐是胸血
現代漢語譯本:王益感到恐懼,四肢都在顫抖,他結結巴巴地對睒說:『這不是您的過錯!這是我前世的罪孽所致,我不愛惜自己的生命,只是想到我那雙目失明的父母,他們年事已高,雙眼又都看不見,一旦沒有了我,他們也就會終結生命,沒有人照顧他們,因此我才感到懊惱。』當時,諸天、龍、神都為之動容。國王又重複說道:『我寧願自己下地獄,承受這罪過,也要讓睒活過來。』他長跪向睒懺悔,陳述道:『如果孩子你最終去世,我就不回國了,就住在山中,像你活著時一樣供養你的盲父母,不要為此擔憂,諸天、龍、神都可以作證,我不會違背這個誓言。』 現代漢語譯本:睒聽到國王的誓言,說道:『即使被毒箭射中,我心中也感到高興,即使死去也不怨恨,因為我的父母要勞煩您來供養,您的罪過將會消除,得到無量的福報。』國王說:『您應當告訴我您父母的住處,以及您未死之前我想知道的事情。』睒就指引說:『從這條路一直走,離這裡不遠就會看到草屋,我的父母就住在那裡。您慢慢地走過去,不要讓我的父母驚慌害怕,用好的方法向他們解釋清楚,您要替我告訴我的父母,無常已經到來,我將要前往後世。我不愛惜自己的生命,只是想到我那雙目失明的父母年事已高,一旦沒有了我,他們就無所依靠,因此我才感到懊惱,自我折磨。我的死是自己前世的罪孽所致,無法逃脫,現在我懺悔,從無數劫以來有身體以來,所做的一切惡事,希望這些罪過能夠消除,愿與父母世世代代相遇,不相分離,讓父母能夠安享晚年,沒有憂患,天龍、鬼神常常隨身護佑,災禍消除,所想的都能如願,無為而自然。』 現代漢語譯本:國王帶著幾個人前往睒的父母住的地方,國王離開之後,睒就去世了。百鳥、禽獸從四面八方聚集過來,都大聲號叫,圍繞著睒的屍體,舔舐他胸前的血跡。
English version: King Yi was terrified, his limbs trembling. He stammered to Shan, 'It's not your fault! It's due to my past sins. I don't cherish my own life, but I'm thinking of my blind parents. They are old, and both their eyes are blind. Once I'm gone, they will also end their lives, with no one to care for them. That's why I'm so distressed.' At that time, the heavens, dragons, and gods were all moved. The king repeated, 'I would rather go to hell myself and suffer this punishment, just to let Shan live.' He knelt down to Shan, repenting and stating, 'If you, my child, ultimately die, I will not return to my kingdom. I will stay in the mountains and care for your blind parents as if you were alive. Don't worry about it. The heavens, dragons, and gods will bear witness, and I will not break this vow.' English version: Shan heard the king's vow and said, 'Even though I'm struck by a poisoned arrow, my heart is happy, and even if I die, I won't resent it. Because my parents will trouble you to care for them, your sins will be eliminated, and you will receive immeasurable blessings.' The king said, 'You should tell me where your parents live, and what you want me to know before you die.' Shan then pointed the way, 'Go straight along this path, and not far from here, you will see a thatched hut. My parents live there. Please go slowly, don't let my parents be alarmed or frightened. Explain it to them in a good way. You should tell my parents for me that impermanence has arrived, and I will go to the next life. I don't cherish my own life, but I'm thinking of my blind parents. They are old, and once I'm gone, they will have no one to rely on. That's why I'm distressed and tormenting myself. My death is due to my past sins, and there is no escape. Now I repent, from countless eons since I had a body, all the evil deeds I have done. I hope these sins can be eliminated. I wish to meet my parents in every life, never to be separated, so that my parents can enjoy their old age without worry. May the heavens, dragons, and gods always protect them, may disasters be eliminated, may all their wishes be fulfilled, and may they be free and natural.' English version: The king took several people to where Shan's parents lived. After the king left, Shan died. Hundreds of birds and beasts gathered from all directions, all crying loudly, circling Shan's body, and licking the blood on his chest.
。盲父母聞此音聲,益怖彷徉而住。王行駛疾,觸動草木,肅肅有聲,父母驚言:『此是何人?非我子行。』王言:『我是迦夷國王,聞盲道人在山學道,故來供養。』盲父母言:『枉屈大王來相慰勞,遠臨草野,王當疲極體安隱不?宮殿夫人、太子、官屬皆安善不?風雨和調五穀豐不?鄰國人民不相侵害耶?』王答道人:『得蒙尊恩,常自平安。』又更問訊盲父母:『在此山中勞大勤苦,樹木之間,甚難為止,自安隱不?』盲父母言:『蒙大王恩,常自安隱,我有孝子,字名曰睒,常取果蓏泉水無乏;我有草蓆,王可就坐,果蓏可食。睒行取水,正爾來還。』
「王聞盲父母言,又大傷心,涕泣其言:『我罪實重,入山射獵,遙見水邊有諸群鹿,引弓射之,箭誤中睒;道人子睒已被毒箭,其痛甚酷,今故自來語道人耳。』父母聞之,舉身自撲,如太山崩地為大動,號哭仰天,自陳訴言:『我子睒者,天下至孝,無有能過,蹈地常恐地痛,有何罪故而射殺之?曏者,大風卒起,吹折樹木,百鳥悲鳴,皆大號呼動一山中。我在山中二十餘年,未曾有此災異之變,而我子睒取水不還,恐當有故,諸神皆驚,肅肅而動。』母便涕哭,不肯復止,父言:『且止!人生世間,無有不死?無常對至,不可得卻
現代漢語譯本:盲人父母聽到這個聲音,更加害怕,徘徊不前。國王快速行駛,觸動草木,發出簌簌的聲音,父母驚恐地說:『這是什麼人?不是我兒子走路的聲音。』國王說:『我是迦夷國王,聽說盲道人在山裡修道,所以前來供養。』盲人父母說:『委屈大王前來慰問,遠道來到這荒野,大王您一定很疲憊吧?身體安康嗎?宮殿里的夫人、太子、官員們都安好嗎?風調雨順,五穀豐登嗎?鄰國人民沒有互相侵犯嗎?』國王回答道人:『托您的福,我一直平安。』又問候盲人父母:『在這山中勞累辛苦,樹木之間,很難停留,你們自己安好嗎?』盲人父母說:『蒙大王恩惠,我們一直安好,我有個孝順的兒子,名字叫睒,經常取來水果和泉水,從不缺乏;我們有草蓆,大王可以坐下,水果可以食用。睒去取水,馬上就回來了。』 國王聽到盲人父母的話,更加傷心,哭著說:『我的罪過實在太重了,進山打獵,遠遠看見水邊有許多鹿,拉弓射箭,箭誤中了睒;道人的兒子睒已經被毒箭射中,疼痛難忍,現在特地來告訴道人。』父母聽了,全身撲倒在地,像泰山崩塌一樣,大地劇烈震動,他們號啕大哭,仰天訴說:『我的兒子睒,是天下最孝順的人,沒有人能超過他,他走路都怕踩痛地面,有什麼罪過要被射殺?剛才,突然颳起大風,吹斷樹木,百鳥悲鳴,都在大聲呼號,震動了整座山。我在這山裡二十多年,從未有過這樣的災異變故,而我的兒子睒去取水不回來,恐怕是出事了,諸神都驚恐,紛紛騷動。』母親便哭泣不止,父親說:『先別哭了!人生在世,沒有不死的?無常到來,是無法避免的。』
English version: The blind parents, hearing this sound, became even more frightened and hesitated. The king, moving quickly, disturbed the plants and trees, creating rustling noises. The parents exclaimed in alarm, 'Who is this? It's not the sound of my son walking.' The king said, 'I am the King of Kashi, and I heard that a blind ascetic is practicing in the mountains, so I came to offer my respects.' The blind parents said, 'It is a great honor for the king to come and comfort us, traveling so far to this wilderness. You must be very tired. Is your body well? Are the ladies, the prince, and the officials in the palace all well? Is the weather favorable, and are the five grains abundant? Are the people of neighboring countries not harming each other?' The king replied to the ascetics, 'Thanks to your blessings, I am always at peace.' He then inquired of the blind parents, 'You are toiling hard in these mountains, among the trees, which is difficult to endure. Are you yourselves well?' The blind parents said, 'Thanks to the king's kindness, we are always well. We have a filial son named Shan, who always brings us fruits and spring water, and we never lack anything. We have a grass mat, and the king can sit down, and the fruits are available to eat. Shan has gone to fetch water and will be back soon.' Upon hearing the blind parents' words, the king was even more heartbroken and wept, saying, 'My sins are truly heavy. I entered the mountains to hunt, and from afar, I saw many deer by the water's edge. I drew my bow and shot, and the arrow mistakenly struck Shan. The ascetic's son, Shan, has been struck by a poisoned arrow, and his pain is severe. I have come to tell the ascetics myself.' Upon hearing this, the parents threw themselves to the ground, like Mount Tai collapsing, causing the earth to shake violently. They wailed and cried out to the heavens, saying, 'My son Shan is the most filial person in the world, and no one can surpass him. He always fears hurting the ground when he walks. What crime did he commit to be shot and killed? Just now, a sudden strong wind arose, breaking trees, and hundreds of birds cried out in sorrow, shaking the entire mountain. I have been in these mountains for over twenty years, and I have never seen such a calamitous event. And now my son Shan has gone to fetch water and has not returned. I fear something has happened. The gods are all alarmed and restless.' The mother wept uncontrollably, and the father said, 'Stop crying! In this world, no one can escape death. When impermanence arrives, it cannot be avoided.'
。』但問王:『睒為射何許,今為死活?』王以睒語向父母說,其盲父母聞王此語,又大感絕:『一旦無子,俱亦當死。大王!今者牽我二人往子尸上。』
「王即牽盲父母往到尸上,父抱其頭,母抱兩腳著其膝上,各以兩手捫摸睒箭,仰天呼言:『諸天、龍神、山神、樹神,我子睒者,天下至孝,是諸天龍、鬼神所知。我年已老,目無所見,身代子死,睒活不恨。』於是,父母俱共誓言:『若睒至孝天地所知,箭當拔出,毒痛當除,睒應更生。』
「於是,第二忉利天帝座即為動,以眼見此二盲道人抱子號呼,乃聞第四兜率天上,釋梵四王從天上來,如人屈伸之頃,來住睒前,以神妙藥灌睒口中,藥入睒口,箭拔毒出,更生如故。父母聞睒以死更生,兩目皆開,飛鳥、走獸皆大歡樂之音,風息云消日為重光,流泉涌出清而且涼,池中蓮華五色精明,栴檀雜香,樹木光榮香倍于常。時王歡喜不能自勝,禮天帝釋,還禮父母及子睒者:『愿以一國所有財寶,俱上道人自相供養,令我罪滅永無有餘。』
「睒語王言:『欲興福者,王但還國,安慰人民,當令奉戒,王勿射獵橫殺無辜,身不安隱,壽終當入泥犁之中。人居世間恩愛暫有,別離久長不得常在

'But ask the king: 'Where was Shǎn shot, and is he now dead or alive?' The king told Shǎn's words to his parents, and his blind parents, hearing this from the king, felt even more desperate: 'Once we have no son, we should all die. Great King! Now please take us two to our son's corpse.' 'The king then led the blind parents to the corpse. The father held his head, and the mother held his feet on her knees. Each used both hands to feel the arrow on Shǎn, and they cried out to the sky: 'All gods, dragons, mountain gods, and tree gods, my son Shǎn is the most filial person in the world, as all the heavenly dragons and ghosts know. I am old and cannot see, I am willing to die in place of my son, and I will not have any resentment if Shǎn can live.' Then, the parents together swore: 'If Shǎn's filial piety is known to heaven and earth, the arrow should be pulled out, the poison and pain should be removed, and Shǎn should be revived.' 'At this moment, the seat of the second Trayastrimsa Heaven shook, and the heavenly emperor saw these two blind ascetics weeping over their son. Then, he heard that the four kings of the fourth Tusita Heaven came down from the sky, and in the time it takes for a person to stretch their arm, they arrived before Shǎn. They poured a miraculous medicine into Shǎn's mouth. As soon as the medicine entered his mouth, the arrow was pulled out, the poison was gone, and Shǎn was revived as before. When the parents heard that Shǎn had come back to life, both their eyes opened. Birds and beasts all made joyful sounds. The wind stopped, the clouds dispersed, and the sun shone again. Clear and cool springs gushed forth, and the lotuses in the pond were colorful and bright. Sandalwood emitted various fragrances, and the trees became radiant, with a fragrance more intense than usual. At this time, the king was overjoyed and could not contain himself. He bowed to the heavenly emperor, and then bowed to the parents and their son Shǎn: 'I am willing to offer all the treasures of the entire kingdom to the ascetics for their own use, so that my sins may be eliminated and never remain.' 'Shǎn said to the king: 'If you wish to do good and accumulate blessings, you should return to your kingdom, comfort the people, and make them observe the precepts. You should not hunt and kill innocent lives, for then you will not be at peace, and after your life ends, you will fall into hell. In this world, love and affection are temporary, but separation is long-lasting, and we cannot be together forever.'
。王宿有福今得為王,莫憍自在,以自在故,造無量惡,后入惡道,悔之何益。』王答:『如教。』隨王獵者,見睒死已,得天神藥死而更生,父母眼開神變如是,悉奉五戒、修行十善,死得生天,無入惡道。」
佛告阿難:「諸來會者,宿命睒者,吾身是耶;盲父者,閱頭檀王是;盲母者,今王夫人摩耶是也;迦夷國王者,阿難是;天帝釋者,彌勒佛是。」
佛告阿難:「吾前世時,為子仁孝、為君慈育、為民奉敬,自致得成為三界尊。」
佛說經已,時諸菩薩、比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷莫不歡喜,作禮而去
現代漢語譯本:『大王您宿世有福,今生才能成為國王,切不可驕傲自大,恣意妄為。如果因為放縱自己而造下無數惡業,將來墮入惡道,那時後悔又有什麼用呢?』國王回答說:『我一定遵從您的教誨。』那些跟隨國王打獵的人,看到睒子死後,又因得到天神的藥物而死而復生,他的父母眼睛也因此復明,並顯現出如此神奇的變化,都紛紛奉行五戒,修持十善,死後得以升入天界,不再墮入惡道。 佛陀告訴阿難:『今天來參加法會的人,前世的睒子就是我的前身;盲眼的父親,就是閱頭檀王;盲眼的母親,就是現在的王后摩耶;迦夷國王,就是你阿難;天帝釋,就是未來的彌勒佛。』 佛陀告訴阿難:『我前世的時候,作為兒子,仁愛孝順;作為君王,慈悲養育百姓;作為人民,奉行恭敬,因此才成就了今日的三界至尊。』 佛陀說完這部經后,當時在場的所有菩薩、比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷無不歡喜,行禮后離去。
English version: 'Your Majesty, you have accumulated blessings in past lives, and that is why you are a king now. Do not be arrogant and self-indulgent. If you create countless evils because of your self-indulgence, you will fall into evil realms in the future. What good will regret do then?' The king replied, 'I will follow your teachings.' Those who followed the king on the hunt saw that after Sham died, he was revived by a celestial medicine, and his parents' eyes were restored. Seeing such miraculous changes, they all observed the five precepts and practiced the ten virtues. After death, they were reborn in heaven and no longer fell into evil realms. The Buddha told Ananda, 'Those who have come to this gathering, Sham in his past life was my past self; the blind father was King Yuedoutan; the blind mother was the current Queen Maya; King Jiayi was you, Ananda; and the celestial Emperor Sakra was the future Maitreya Buddha.' The Buddha told Ananda, 'In my past lives, as a son, I was benevolent and filial; as a king, I compassionately nurtured the people; and as a commoner, I practiced reverence. That is why I have achieved the status of the honored one of the three realms today.' After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, all the Bodhisattvas, Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis, Upasakas, and Upasikas present were filled with joy, paid their respects, and departed.
