聞如是:
一時,佛在毗羅勒國,與千二百五十比丘,及眾菩薩、國王、大臣、長者、居士、清信、士女不可稱計,一時來會。
佛告諸比丘:「皆悉寂靜定意聽!我念前世,初得菩薩道時,戒行普慈,精進一心,修集智慧、善權方便,功德累積不可稱記,諸天龍、鬼神、帝王、人民無能行者。」
阿難聞佛言,更正衣服,長跪叉手,白佛言:「愿欲所聞。」
佛告阿難:「乃往過去無數世時,有菩薩名曰一切妙行,慈仁惠施,救濟群生,常行四等心,度世危難,育養苦人。在兜率天上教授天人,常以晝夜各三時定意,思惟三界,照觀十方天下、人民善惡之道。知有父子,相養父母,奉事三尊,恭順師長修諸功德者,常以天眼遍觀五道。
「時,有迦夷國,中有一長者孤無兒子,夫婦兩目皆盲,心願入山求無上慧,修清凈志,信樂空閑。菩薩念言:『此人發意欲學妙道,而兩目皆盲,目無所睹,若入山中或墮溝坑,或逢毒蟲所見危害;若我壽終為其作子,供養父母終其壽。』即便往生盲父母家,為其作子
現代漢語譯本 佛說睒子經 我聽聞是這樣的: 一時,佛在毗羅勒國,與一千二百五十位比丘,以及眾菩薩、國王、大臣、長者、居士、清信士女等不可計數的人,一同來集會。 佛告訴眾比丘:『你們都安靜下來,專心聽!我回憶前世,剛開始修菩薩道時,戒行清凈,普施慈愛,精進一心,修習智慧、善巧方便,積累的功德不可計數,諸天龍、鬼神、帝王、人民沒有能像我這樣修行的。』 阿難聽聞佛的教誨,整理衣物,長跪合掌,對佛說:『我願意聽聞。』 佛告訴阿難:『在過去無數世時,有一位菩薩名叫一切妙行,他慈悲仁愛,樂於佈施,救濟眾生,常行四種平等心,度脫世間的危難,養育困苦的人。他在兜率天上教導天人,常常在白天和夜晚各三次入定,思惟三界,觀察十方天下人民的善惡行為。他知道有父子互相贍養父母,奉事三寶,恭敬順從師長,修習各種功德的人,他常常用天眼遍觀五道。』 『當時,在迦夷國中,有一位長者,孤獨無子,夫婦二人雙目失明,他們心中希望入山求取無上智慧,修習清凈的志向,喜歡空閑。菩薩心想:『此人發願想要學習妙道,但是雙目失明,什麼都看不見,如果入山,可能會掉入溝壑,或者遇到毒蟲危害;如果我壽命終結,就為他們做兒子,供養父母直到他們去世。』於是,他就投生到盲人父母的家中,做他們的兒子。
English version The Buddha Speaks of the Śyāma Jātaka Sutra Translated by Tripiṭaka Master Śhì Shèngjiān of Qifu Qin Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the country of Virala, with twelve hundred and fifty monks, as well as numerous Bodhisattvas, kings, ministers, elders, laymen, devout men and women, an immeasurable gathering. The Buddha told the monks, 'All of you be quiet and listen attentively! I recall in my past lives, when I first attained the Bodhisattva path, my precepts were pure, I universally practiced loving-kindness, I was diligent and single-minded, cultivating wisdom and skillful means. The merits I accumulated were immeasurable. No gods, dragons, ghosts, spirits, emperors, or people were able to practice like I did.' Ananda, hearing the Buddha's words, adjusted his robes, knelt with his palms together, and said to the Buddha, 'I wish to hear what you have to say.' The Buddha told Ananda, 'In the past, countless eons ago, there was a Bodhisattva named All-Wonderful-Conduct. He was compassionate and benevolent, generous in giving, and rescued all beings. He constantly practiced the four immeasurable minds, delivered the world from dangers, and nurtured the suffering. In the Tusita Heaven, he taught the gods and humans, and he would enter samadhi three times each day and night, contemplating the three realms, observing the good and evil ways of the people in the ten directions. He knew of those who had children who supported their parents, who served the Three Jewels, who were respectful to their teachers, and who cultivated various merits. He would constantly use his heavenly eye to observe the five paths.' 'At that time, in the country of Kashi, there was an elder who was childless. Both he and his wife were blind. They wished to enter the mountains to seek supreme wisdom, cultivate pure aspirations, and enjoy solitude. The Bodhisattva thought, 『This person has resolved to learn the wonderful path, but both his eyes are blind, and he cannot see anything. If he enters the mountains, he might fall into a ditch or encounter poisonous insects. If my life ends, I will be born as their son and support my parents until their death.』 Then, he was born into the home of the blind parents and became their son.
。父母歡喜愛之甚重,布發道意欲行入山,以生子故,便樂世聞。子年十歲號曰睒子,至孝仁慈,奉行十善:不殺、不盜、不淫、不欺、不飲酒、不妄言、不綺語、不嫉妒、通道不疑、晝夜精進,奉事父母如人事天,言常含笑不傷人意,行則應法不望傾邪,於是父母即大喜悅,無復憂愁。
「睒年過十歲,睒自長跪,白父母言:『本發大意欲入深山,志求空寂無上之道,豈以子故而絕本願。人居世間無常百變,命非金石對至無期,愿如本意宜本先志,自隨父母俱共入山,侍養之宜不失時節。』父母報睒子言:『孝順天自知之,不違本誓,便當入山。』睒即以家中所有之物,皆施國中諸貧窮者,便與父母俱共入山。
「睒子至山中,以柴草為父母作屋,施置床褥,不寒不熱恒得其宜。適入山一年眾果豐美,食之香甘,泉水涌出清而且涼;池中蓮華五色精明,栴檀雜香,樹木豐茂,香倍于常。風雨以時,不寒不熱,樹葉相接,以障雨露,蔭覆日光其下常涼。飛鳥翔集,皆作伎樂之音,以娛樂盲父母;師子、熊羆、虎狼、毒獸,皆自慈心相向,無驚害之心,皆飲水、啖果無復驚怖之心,獐鹿、眾鳥皆來附近,與睒音聲相和,以娛樂盲父母
現代漢語譯本:父母非常喜愛他,布發道想要入山修行,因為有了兒子,便樂於世俗的名聲。兒子十歲時,名叫睒子,他非常孝順仁慈,奉行十善:不殺生、不偷盜、不邪淫、不欺騙、不飲酒、不妄語、不花言巧語、不嫉妒、信仰正道不懷疑、晝夜精進,侍奉父母如同侍奉上天,說話時常面帶微笑不傷害別人的心意,行為舉止合乎法度不偏離正道。因此,父母非常高興,不再憂愁。 睒子十歲過後,他自己跪著,對父母說:『我本來就發願要進入深山,立志尋求空寂無上的道,難道因為有了兒子就放棄本來的願望嗎?人活在世上,無常變化,生命並非金石,面對死亡沒有期限,希望能夠按照本來的意願,先實現本來的志向,自己跟隨父母一同入山,侍奉供養他們,不耽誤時節。』父母告訴睒子說:『你的孝順上天自然知道,不違揹你本來的誓言,就應當入山。』睒子就把家中所有的東西,都施捨給國內的貧窮之人,然後就和父母一同入山。 睒子到了山中,用柴草為父母蓋了房子,鋪設床褥,不冷不熱,總是很舒適。剛入山一年,各種果實豐美,吃起來香甜可口,泉水涌出,清澈而且涼爽;池塘中蓮花五彩繽紛,光彩奪目,栴檀散發著各種香味,樹木茂盛,香氣比平時更濃。風雨適時,不冷不熱,樹葉相互交錯,遮擋雨露,遮蔽陽光,樹下總是涼爽。飛鳥聚集,都發出美妙的樂音,用來娛樂盲眼的父母;獅子、熊、虎、狼、毒獸,都以慈悲之心相待,沒有驚嚇傷害的心,都喝水、吃果子,不再有驚恐之心,獐鹿、各種鳥類都來附近,與睒子的聲音相和,用來娛樂盲眼的父母。
English version: His parents loved him very much. Bu Fa Dao, wanting to practice in the mountains, was content with worldly fame because of his son. When the son was ten years old, he was named Shanzi. He was very filial and kind, practicing the ten virtues: not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery, not deceiving, not drinking alcohol, not lying, not using flowery language, not being jealous, believing in the right path without doubt, and diligently practicing day and night. He served his parents as if serving heaven, always speaking with a smile, never hurting others' feelings, and acting in accordance with the law without deviating from the right path. Therefore, his parents were very happy and no longer worried. When Shanzi was over ten years old, he knelt down and said to his parents: 'I originally vowed to enter the deep mountains, determined to seek the empty and supreme path. Should I abandon my original wish because of having a son? People live in this world with constant changes, life is not like gold or stone, and death has no set time. I hope to follow my original intention, first fulfilling my original aspiration, and then accompany my parents into the mountains, serving and caring for them without delay.' His parents told Shanzi: 'Heaven knows your filial piety. Do not violate your original vow, you should enter the mountains.' Shanzi then gave all the possessions in his home to the poor people in the country, and then went into the mountains with his parents. When Shanzi arrived in the mountains, he built a house for his parents with firewood and grass, and laid out bedding. It was neither cold nor hot, always comfortable. Just one year after entering the mountains, various fruits were abundant, delicious and sweet. Spring water gushed out, clear and cool. The lotus flowers in the pond were colorful and bright, and the sandalwood emitted various fragrances. The trees were lush, and the fragrance was stronger than usual. The wind and rain were timely, neither cold nor hot. The leaves intertwined, blocking the rain and dew, and shading the sunlight, so it was always cool underneath. Birds gathered, all making beautiful music to entertain his blind parents. Lions, bears, tigers, wolves, and venomous beasts all treated each other with compassion, without any intention to frighten or harm. They all drank water and ate fruit, no longer having any fear. Deer and various birds came nearby, harmonizing their voices with Shanzi's to entertain his blind parents.
。睒至孝仁慈無有過,蹈地常恐地痛,天神、山神皆作人形,晝夜慰勞三道人,一心定意無復憂愁。
「睒常與父母取百種果蓏以食父母,父母時渴欲飲,睒著鹿皮衣提瓶行取水,麋鹿、飛鳥亦復往飲,不相畏難。時,迦夷國王入山射獵,王見水邊有麋鹿、飛鳥,引弓射之,箭誤中睒。睒被毒箭甚痛,便大呼言:『誰持一毒箭,射殺三道人?』王聞人聲,下馬往到睒前,睒謂王言:『象坐牙死,犀坐角死,翠坐毛死,麋鹿坐皮死,今我死無牙、無角、無皮肉、不可啖,今有何罪橫見射殺?』王言:『卿是何人?被鹿皮之衣與禽獸無異。』睒言:『我是王國中人,與盲父母俱來學道二十餘年,未曾為虎狼毒蟲所害,今便為王箭所射殺之。』
「當爾之時,山中大風暴起,吹折樹木,飛鳥、禽獸、師子、熊羆、虎狼、毒獸皆㘁呼動一山中;日無精光,流泉為竭,眾花萎死,雷電動地。時,盲父母即自驚起曰:『是何變異?睒行取水經久不還,將無為毒蟲之所害耶?禽獸悲鳴,音聲號呼不如常時,風起四面樹木摧折,必有災異。』王時怖懼大自悔責:『我本射鹿,箭誤傷中射殺道人,其罪甚重,坐貪少肉而受重殃,我今以一國財寶、宮殿、妓女、丘郭、城邑,以救子命
現代漢語譯本:睒的孝順仁慈無人能比,他走路時常常擔心踩痛地面。天神和山神都化作人形,日夜慰勞這三位修行人,使他們一心安定,不再憂愁。 睒常常為父母採摘各種水果蔬菜供他們食用。父母有時口渴想喝水,睒就穿著鹿皮衣,提著瓶子去取水。麋鹿和飛鳥也來這裡喝水,彼此之間互不畏懼。當時,迦夷國王入山打獵,國王看到水邊有麋鹿和飛鳥,就拉弓射箭,結果箭誤中了睒。睒被毒箭射中,非常疼痛,便大聲呼喊道:『是誰拿著毒箭,射殺我們這三個修行人?』國王聽到人聲,下馬走到睒的面前。睒對國王說:『大象因為象牙而死,犀牛因為角而死,翠鳥因為羽毛而死,麋鹿因為皮而死。我沒有牙、沒有角、沒有皮肉,不能吃,現在有什麼罪過要被你射殺?』國王說:『你是什麼人?穿著鹿皮衣服,和禽獸沒什麼區別。』睒說:『我是王國中的人,和盲眼的父母一起來這裡修行二十多年了,從未被虎狼毒蟲所傷害,現在卻被你的箭射殺了。』 當時,山中突然颳起大風,吹斷樹木,飛鳥、禽獸、獅子、熊、虎狼、毒獸都在山中哀嚎;太陽失去了光輝,泉水乾涸,花朵枯萎,雷聲震動大地。這時,盲眼的父母驚醒,說道:『這是怎麼回事?睒去取水很久沒回來,難道是被毒蟲傷害了嗎?禽獸的悲鳴聲和往常不一樣,風從四面刮來,樹木被摧折,一定是有災禍發生了。』國王這時感到恐懼,非常後悔自責:『我本來是射鹿的,結果箭誤傷射殺了修行人,罪過太大了,因為貪圖一點肉而要遭受如此重大的災難。我現在願意用我整個國家的財寶、宮殿、妃子、城郭、城邑,來救他的性命。』
English version: Shǎn's filial piety and kindness were unmatched. He always worried about hurting the ground when he walked. The gods of heaven and the mountains transformed into human forms, comforting the three ascetics day and night, allowing them to focus their minds without worry. Shǎn often gathered various fruits and vegetables for his parents to eat. When his parents were thirsty, Shǎn would wear his deerskin clothes and take a bottle to fetch water. Deer and birds would also come to drink, without fear of each other. At that time, King Jiāyí entered the mountains to hunt. The king saw deer and birds by the water and drew his bow, but the arrow mistakenly hit Shǎn. Shǎn was in great pain from the poisoned arrow and cried out, 'Who is it that holds a poisoned arrow, killing three ascetics?' The king heard the voice and dismounted, going to Shǎn. Shǎn said to the king, 'Elephants die for their tusks, rhinoceroses for their horns, kingfishers for their feathers, and deer for their hides. I have no tusks, no horns, no hide, and no flesh to eat. What crime have I committed to be shot and killed?' The king said, 'Who are you? You wear deerskin clothes, no different from beasts.' Shǎn said, 'I am a person from the kingdom, and I have come here with my blind parents to practice asceticism for over twenty years. I have never been harmed by tigers, wolves, or poisonous insects, but now I am killed by your arrow.' At that time, a great storm arose in the mountains, breaking trees. Birds, beasts, lions, bears, tigers, wolves, and poisonous creatures all wailed in the mountains. The sun lost its light, the streams dried up, the flowers withered, and thunder shook the earth. At this time, the blind parents awoke in alarm, saying, 'What is happening? Shǎn has been gone for a long time to fetch water. Could he have been harmed by poisonous insects? The cries of the beasts are different from usual. The wind is blowing from all directions, and the trees are being broken. There must be a disaster.' The king was terrified and full of remorse, saying, 'I was originally shooting at deer, but the arrow mistakenly hit and killed an ascetic. My sin is great. I have suffered such a great calamity for the sake of a little meat. I am now willing to use all the treasures of my kingdom, palaces, concubines, cities, and towns to save his life.'

「時,王便前以手拔睒胸箭,箭深不可得出,飛鳥禽獸四面雲集,悲鳴呼喚動一山中。王益怖懅,支節皆動,睒言:『非王之過!我自宿罪所致,我不惜身命,但憐我盲父母,年既衰老,目無所見,一旦無我,亦當終歿,以此懊惱酷毒耳。』當爾之時,諸天、龍神皆為肅動。王便重言:『我寧入泥犁中,百劫受罪,使睒身活。』長跪向睒悔過:『若睒命終,我當不復還國,便住山中,供養卿盲父母,如卿在時,勿得爲念,天龍、鬼神皆當證知,我不負此誓。』
「睒聞王此誓:『雖被毒箭,心喜意悅,雖死不恨,以我父母累王供養,王當罪滅,得福無量。』王言:『卿語我父母處,及子未絕吾欲知之。』睒即指示:『從此步徑去是不遠,自當見草屋,父母在其中止。王徐徐往,勿令我父母驚動怖懅,以善方便解語其意,王當爲我上白父母。我無常今至,當就後世。我不惜身命,但憐我盲父母年以衰老,目無所見,一旦無我無所依仰,以此懊惱自酷毒耳。我死自分宿罪所致,無可得脫,今自懺悔,從無數劫有身以來,所行眾惡,於此罪滅,愿與父母世世相值,不相遠離,當令父母終保年壽,勿有憂患,天龍、鬼神常隨護助,災害消滅,所欲應意,無為自然
現代漢語譯本:當時,國王走上前,用手拔出睒胸前的箭,箭射得很深,無法拔出。飛鳥禽獸從四面八方聚集過來,悲鳴呼喚,響徹整個山中。國王更加恐懼,四肢都在顫抖。睒說:『這不是國王的過錯!這是我前世的罪孽所致。我並不愛惜自己的性命,只是可憐我那雙目失明的父母,他們年紀已經衰老,眼睛什麼也看不見,一旦沒有了我,他們也會死去,我為此感到懊惱痛苦。』當時,諸天、龍神都被感動。國王再次說道:『我寧願下地獄,受百劫的罪,也要讓睒活過來。』他長跪在睒面前懺悔:『如果睒死了,我就不再回國,就住在山中,像你活著時一樣供養你的盲父母,不要為他們擔心,天龍、鬼神都可以作證,我不會違背這個誓言。』 睒聽到國王的誓言,『雖然身中劇毒的箭,心中卻感到歡喜,即使死去也沒有怨恨,因為我的父母託付給國王供養,國王的罪過也會消除,得到無量的福報。』國王說:『你告訴我你父母住的地方,以及你臨終前的心願,我想知道。』睒就指著說:『從這條小路走不遠,就會看到草屋,我的父母就在那裡。國王請慢慢地走,不要讓我父母驚慌害怕,用善巧方便的話語向他們解釋,國王要替我向父母稟告。我無常的時刻到了,將要前往後世。我並不愛惜自己的性命,只是可憐我那雙目失明的父母,他們年紀已經衰老,眼睛什麼也看不見,一旦沒有了我,他們就無所依靠,我為此感到懊惱痛苦。我死是自己前世的罪孽所致,無法逃脫,現在我懺悔,從無數劫以來所造的種種惡業,希望這些罪過能夠消除,愿我與父母世世代代相遇,永不分離,愿我的父母能夠安享晚年,沒有憂愁,天龍、鬼神常常護佑他們,災禍消除,所求如願,無為自然。』
English version: At that time, the king stepped forward and tried to pull the arrow from Shǎn's chest, but the arrow was lodged so deeply that it could not be removed. Birds and beasts gathered from all directions, their cries of sorrow echoing throughout the mountain. The king grew even more terrified, his limbs trembling. Shǎn said, 'It is not the king's fault! It is due to my own past sins. I do not cherish my own life, but I pity my blind parents, who are already old and cannot see. Once I am gone, they too will die, and this is what causes me such distress.' At that moment, the gods and dragons were all moved. The king spoke again, 'I would rather go to hell and suffer for a hundred kalpas, just to bring Shǎn back to life.' He knelt before Shǎn and repented, 'If Shǎn dies, I will not return to my kingdom. I will stay in the mountains and care for your blind parents as if you were still alive. Do not worry about them. The gods, dragons, and spirits will all bear witness that I will not break this vow.' Shǎn heard the king's vow and, 'Though struck by a poisoned arrow, his heart was filled with joy. Even in death, he held no resentment, for his parents were entrusted to the king's care. The king's sins would be absolved, and he would gain immeasurable merit.' The king said, 'Tell me where your parents live, and what your final wish is. I want to know.' Shǎn pointed and said, 'Go along this path, and it is not far. You will see a thatched hut, and my parents are there. Please go slowly, so as not to startle or frighten them. Use kind and skillful words to explain the situation to them. The king must tell my parents on my behalf. My time of impermanence has come, and I will go to the next life. I do not cherish my own life, but I pity my blind parents, who are already old and cannot see. Once I am gone, they will have no one to rely on, and this is what causes me such distress. My death is due to my own past sins, from which there is no escape. Now I repent for all the evil deeds I have committed since countless kalpas ago. I hope these sins can be erased. May I meet my parents in every lifetime, never to be separated. May my parents live out their years in peace, without worry. May the gods, dragons, and spirits always protect them, may disasters be eliminated, may their wishes be fulfilled, and may they live in effortless ease.'
「王將數人詣父母所,王去之後,睒奄死矣。百鳥、禽獸四面雲集,皆大號呼,繞睒尸,上舐是胸血。盲父母聞此音聲,益怖彷徉而行。王行使疾,觸動草木,肅肅有聲,父母驚言:『此是何人?非我子行。』王言:『我是迦夷國王,聞盲道人在山學道,故來供養。』盲父母言:『枉屈大王來相慰勞,遠臨草野,王當疲極體安隱不?宮殿夫人、太子、官屬皆安善不?風雨和調五穀豐不?鄰國人民不相侵害耶?』王答道人:『得蒙尊恩,常自平安。』又更問訊:『在此山中勞大勤苦,樹木之間,甚難為止,自安隱不?』盲父母言:『蒙大王恩,常自安隱,我有孝子,名字曰睒,常取果蓏泉水無乏;我有草蓆,王可就坐,果蓏可食。睒行取水,正爾來還。』
「王聞盲父母言,又大傷心,涕泣其言:『我罪實重,入山射獵,遙見水邊有諸群鹿,引弓射之,箭誤中睒;道人子睒已被毒箭,其痛甚酷,今故自來語道人耳。』父母聞之,舉身自撲,如太山崩地為大動,號哭仰天,自陳訴言:『我子睒者,天下至孝,無有能過,蹈地常恐地痛,有何罪故而射殺之?曏者,大風卒起,吹折樹木,百鳥悲鳴,皆大號呼動一山中
國王帶了幾個人到他父母那裡,國王離開后,睒就死了。各種鳥類、野獸從四面八方聚集過來,都大聲號叫,圍繞著睒的屍體,舔舐他胸前的血。盲人父母聽到這些聲音,更加害怕,徘徊著走動。國王走得很快,觸動草木,發出簌簌的聲音,父母驚恐地說:『這是什麼人?不是我兒子走路的聲音。』國王說:『我是迦夷國王,聽說盲人道人在山裡修道,所以前來供養。』盲人父母說:『委屈大王前來慰問,遠道來到這荒野,大王您身體安康嗎?宮殿里的夫人、太子、官員們都安好嗎?風調雨順,五穀豐登嗎?鄰國人民沒有互相侵犯嗎?』國王回答道人:『承蒙您的恩德,我一直平安。』又進一步問候:『在這山中勞累辛苦,樹木之間,很難停留,您自己安好嗎?』盲人父母說:『承蒙大王恩德,我們一直安好,我有一個孝順的兒子,名字叫睒,他經常取來水果和泉水,從不缺乏;我有草蓆,大王可以坐下,水果可以食用。睒去取水,馬上就回來了。』 國王聽到盲人父母的話,更加傷心,哭泣著說:『我的罪過實在太重了,進山打獵,遠遠看見水邊有一群鹿,拉弓射箭,箭誤中了睒;道人的兒子睒已經被毒箭射中,疼痛非常劇烈,現在特地來告訴道人。』父母聽到這話,全身撲倒在地,像泰山崩塌一樣,大聲哭喊,仰天訴說:『我的兒子睒,是天下最孝順的人,沒有人能超過他,走路都怕踩痛地面,有什麼罪過要被射殺?剛才,突然颳起大風,吹斷樹木,百鳥悲鳴,都大聲號叫,震動了整座山。』
The king took several people to his parents' place. After the king left, Sham died suddenly. Hundreds of birds and beasts gathered from all directions, all crying loudly, circling Sham's corpse, and licking the blood on his chest. The blind parents heard these sounds and became even more frightened, wandering around. The king walked quickly, disturbing the grass and trees, making rustling sounds. The parents said in alarm, 'Who is this? It's not the sound of my son walking.' The king said, 'I am King Kashi, I heard that a blind Taoist is practicing in the mountains, so I came to make offerings.' The blind parents said, 'It is a great pity that the king has come to comfort us, traveling far to this wilderness. Is the king's body well? Are the ladies, the prince, and the officials in the palace all well? Is the weather favorable, and are the five grains abundant? Are the people of neighboring countries not harming each other?' The king replied to the Taoist, 'Thanks to your grace, I am always safe.' He further inquired, 'It is hard and tiring to be in these mountains, among the trees, is it difficult to stay here, are you well?' The blind parents said, 'Thanks to the king's grace, we are always well. I have a filial son named Sham, who always brings fruits and spring water, and we never lack anything. I have a grass mat, the king can sit on it, and the fruits can be eaten. Sham has gone to fetch water and will be back soon.' When the king heard the blind parents' words, he was even more heartbroken and said, weeping, 'My sin is truly great. I went into the mountains to hunt, and from afar, I saw a herd of deer by the water. I drew my bow and shot an arrow, which mistakenly hit Sham. The Taoist's son Sham has been hit by a poisoned arrow, and his pain is severe. I have come to tell the Taoist.' Upon hearing this, the parents threw themselves to the ground, like Mount Tai collapsing, crying loudly and lamenting to the heavens, 'My son Sham is the most filial person in the world, no one can surpass him. He always feared hurting the ground when he walked. What crime did he commit to be shot and killed? Just now, a sudden strong wind arose, breaking trees, and hundreds of birds cried sadly, all wailing loudly, shaking the entire mountain.'
。我在山中二十餘年,未曾有此災異之變,而我子睒取水不還,恐當有故,諸神皆驚,肅肅而動。』母便涕哭,不肯復止,父言:『且止!人生世間,無有不死?無常對至,不可得卻。』但問王:『睒為射何許,今為死活?』王以睒語向父母說,其盲父母聞王此語,又大感絕:『一旦無子,俱亦當死。大王!今者牽我二人往子尸上。』
「王即牽盲父母往到尸上,父抱其頭,母抱兩腳著與膝上,各以兩手捫模睒箭,仰天呼言:『諸天、龍神、山神、樹神,我子睒者,天下至孝,是諸天龍神所知。我年已老,目無所見,身代子死,睒活不恨。』於是,父母俱共誓言:『若睒至孝天地所知,箭當拔出,毒痛當除睒應更生。』
「於是,第二忉利天帝座即為動,以眼見此二盲道人抱子號呼,乃聞第四兜率天上,釋梵四王從天上來,如人屈伸之頃,來住睒前,以神妙藥灌睒口中,藥入睒口,箭拔毒出,更生如故。父母聞睒以死已生,兩目皆開,飛鳥、走獸皆大歡樂之音,風息云消日為重光,流泉涌出清而且涼,池中蓮華五色精明,栴檀雜香,樹木光榮香倍于常。時王歡喜不能自勝,禮天帝釋,還禮父母及子睒者:『愿以一國所有財寶,俱上道人自相供養,令我罪滅永無有餘
『我在山中住了二十多年,從未遇到過這樣的災異變故,而我的兒子睒去取水卻一去不回,恐怕是出了什麼事,眾神都感到驚恐,紛紛騷動。』母親便哭泣起來,止不住眼淚,父親說:『先別哭了!人生在世,哪有不死?無常到來,是無法避免的。』只是問國王:『睒是在哪裡被射傷的,現在是死是活?』國王把睒說的話告訴了他的父母,他那失明的父母聽到國王這樣說,更是感到絕望:『一旦失去了兒子,我們也都活不成了。大王!現在請您帶我們二人去兒子的屍體旁。』 國王便帶著失明的父母來到屍體旁,父親抱著兒子的頭,母親抱著兒子的雙腳放在膝蓋上,各自用雙手撫摸著睒身上的箭傷,仰天呼喊道:『諸天、龍神、山神、樹神,我的兒子睒是天下最孝順的人,這是諸天龍神都知道的。我年紀大了,眼睛看不見,我願意代替兒子去死,如果睒能活過來,我也沒有什麼遺憾。』於是,父母一同發誓說:『如果睒的孝心是天地都知道的,那麼箭就應該拔出來,毒痛應該消除,睒應該重新活過來。』 這時,第二忉利天的帝釋天王的寶座立刻震動起來,他看到這兩位失明的道人抱著兒子哭喊,又聽到第四兜率天的釋梵四天王從天而降,像人屈伸手臂那麼快,來到睒的面前,用神奇的藥物灌入睒的口中,藥物進入睒的口中,箭被拔出,毒素消除,睒像原來一樣復活了。父母聽到睒死而復生,兩眼都恢復了光明,飛鳥走獸都發出歡快的叫聲,風停了,雲散了,太陽重新發出光芒,泉水涌出,清澈而涼爽,池塘里的蓮花五彩繽紛,光彩奪目,栴檀散發出各種香味,樹木也變得光彩照人,香氣比平時更加濃郁。這時,國王高興得無法自持,向帝釋天王行禮,又向睒的父母和兒子行禮:『我願意把整個國家的所有財寶,都獻給道人,讓他們自己享用,使我的罪過消除,永遠不再有餘。』
'I have been in the mountains for more than twenty years, and have never encountered such a strange and disastrous change. But my son, Shan, went to fetch water and has not returned. I fear something has happened. All the gods are alarmed and restless.' The mother then wept, unable to stop her tears. The father said, 'Stop crying! In this world, who does not die? When impermanence arrives, it cannot be avoided.' He only asked the king, 'Where was Shan shot? Is he dead or alive?' The king told his parents what Shan had said. His blind parents, upon hearing the king's words, felt even more despair: 'Once we lose our son, we will not be able to live either. Great King! Please take us two to our son's corpse now.' The king then led the blind parents to the corpse. The father held his son's head, and the mother held his feet on her lap. Each used their hands to feel the arrow wound on Shan, and they cried out to the heavens, 'Gods, dragons, mountain gods, tree gods, my son Shan is the most filial person in the world, as all the gods and dragons know. I am old and blind, and I am willing to die in place of my son. If Shan can live, I will have no regrets.' Then, the parents together swore an oath: 'If Shan's filial piety is known to heaven and earth, then the arrow should be pulled out, the poison and pain should be removed, and Shan should be revived.' At that moment, the seat of the Emperor of the second Trayastrimsa Heaven immediately shook. He saw these two blind ascetics holding their son and crying, and he heard the four Brahma Kings of the fourth Tusita Heaven descending from the sky, as quickly as a person could stretch their arm, and arriving before Shan. They poured a miraculous medicine into Shan's mouth. As the medicine entered Shan's mouth, the arrow was pulled out, the poison was removed, and Shan was revived as before. When the parents heard that Shan had died and come back to life, both of their eyes regained their sight. Birds and beasts all made sounds of great joy. The wind stopped, the clouds dispersed, the sun shone brightly again, springs gushed forth, clear and cool, the lotuses in the pond were colorful and radiant, sandalwood emitted various fragrances, and the trees became radiant, their fragrance more intense than usual. At this time, the king was overjoyed and could not contain himself. He bowed to the Emperor of Heaven, and then bowed to Shan's parents and son: 'I am willing to offer all the treasures of the entire kingdom to the ascetics for their own use, so that my sins may be erased and never remain.'
。』睒語王言:『欲興福者,王但還國,安慰人民,當令奉戒;王勿射獵,橫殺無辜,身不安隱,壽終當入泥犁之中。人居世間恩愛暫有,別離長久不得常在,王宿有福今得為王,莫憍自在,以自在故,造無量惡,后入惡道,悔之何益。』王答:『如教。』隨王獵者,見睒死已,得天神藥死而更生,父母眼開神變如是,悉奉五戒、修行十善,死得生天,無入惡道。」
佛告阿難:「諸來會者!宿命睒者,吾身是也;盲父者,閱頭檀王是;盲母者,今王夫人摩耶是也;迦夷國王者,阿難是;天帝釋者,彌勒佛是。」
佛告阿難:「吾前世,為子仁孝、為君慈育、為民奉敬,自致得成為三界尊。」
佛說經已,時諸菩薩、比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷莫不歡喜,作禮而去
現代漢語譯本:睒子對國王說:『想要興盛福德,大王只需返回國家,安撫人民,讓他們遵守戒律;大王不要打獵,無故殺害生靈,這樣自身不得安寧,壽命終結後會墮入地獄。人在世間,恩愛只是暫時的,離別卻是長久的,不能永遠在一起。大王前世有福,今生才能成為國王,不要驕傲自滿,因為自滿會造下無量的惡業,死後墮入惡道,那時後悔又有什麼用呢?』國王回答說:『遵從您的教誨。』跟隨國王打獵的人,看到睒子死後,又因得到天神的藥而復活,父母的眼睛也因此復明,看到這樣的神蹟,都奉行五戒,修行十善,死後得以昇天,不再墮入惡道。 佛陀告訴阿難:『各位來參加法會的人!前世的睒子,就是我的前身;盲眼的父親,就是閱頭檀王;盲眼的母親,就是現在的王后摩耶;迦夷國王,就是你阿難;天帝釋,就是彌勒佛。』 佛陀告訴阿難:『我前世,作為兒子仁慈孝順,作為君主慈愛養育百姓,作為人民受到尊敬,因此才成就了三界至尊的地位。』 佛陀說完這部經后,當時在場的菩薩、比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷無不歡喜,行禮后離去。
English version: 'Shǎn said to the king: 『If you wish to cultivate blessings, Your Majesty, simply return to your kingdom, comfort the people, and encourage them to observe the precepts. Your Majesty, do not hunt, do not kill innocent beings, for this will bring you no peace, and after your life ends, you will fall into hell. In this world, love and affection are temporary, while separation is long and cannot be avoided. Your Majesty has accumulated blessings in past lives, which is why you are a king now. Do not be arrogant and complacent, for arrogance leads to the creation of immeasurable evil, and after death, you will fall into evil realms. What good will regret do then?』 The king replied: 『As you instruct.』 Those who followed the king on the hunt, seeing that Shǎn had died and then been revived by a divine medicine, and that his parents』 eyes had been restored, all witnessed this miracle. They all began to observe the five precepts and practice the ten virtues, and after death, they were reborn in heaven, no longer falling into evil realms.』 The Buddha told Ananda: 『All those who have come to this gathering! The Shǎn of the past life was my former self; the blind father was King Yuetoutan; the blind mother was the current Queen Maya; King Jiayi was you, Ananda; and the Heavenly Emperor Shì was Maitreya Buddha.』 The Buddha told Ananda: 『In my past lives, as a son, I was benevolent and filial; as a ruler, I was compassionate and nurtured the people; as a member of the populace, I was respected. This is how I attained the position of the most honored one in the three realms.』 After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, all the Bodhisattvas, Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis, Upasakas, and Upasikas present were filled with joy, bowed in respect, and departed.
