如是我聞:

一時佛住摩伽提國,寂滅道場,彌加女村,自在天祠精舍。

時有迦波利婆羅門子,名彌勒,軀體金色,三十二相,八十種好,放銀光明,黃金校飾,如白銀山,威光無量,來至佛所。

爾時世尊,與千二百五十比丘,經行林中;又有結髮梵志五百人等,遙見彌勒,威儀庠序、相好清凈,五體投地如銀山崩,成金花聚眾寶間廁。金花金臺,七寶為果,于臺閣中,有妙音聲,而說偈言:

「我見牟尼尊,  面貌常清凈, 百福相奇特,  世間無倫匹; 煩惱垢永盡,  智慧悉成滿, 一向常歸命,  身心無疲倦。 故我以五體,  欲得勝安樂, 脫苦無所畏,  敬禮釋迦文。」

時諸梵志,見聞此事,白佛言:「世尊!如此童子,威儀庠序,光明無量,與佛無異;於何佛所,初發道心,受持誰經?唯愿天尊!為我解說

一時,佛住在摩伽提國,寂滅道場,彌加女村的自在天祠精舍。

當時,有一位名叫彌勒的迦波利婆羅門之子,身體呈金色,具足三十二相、八十種好,放出銀色光明,以黃金裝飾,如同白銀山一般,威光無量,來到佛陀所在之處。

那時,世尊正與一千二百五十位比丘在林中經行;又有五百位結髮梵志等人,遠遠看見彌勒,威儀莊重、相好清凈,五體投地,如同銀山崩塌,形成金花聚集,眾寶交錯。金花金臺,以七寶為果,在臺閣之中,有美妙的聲音,吟誦偈語:

『我見牟尼尊,面貌常清凈,百福相奇特,世間無倫匹;煩惱垢永盡,智慧悉成滿,一向常歸命,身心無疲倦。故我以五體,欲得勝安樂,脫苦無所畏,敬禮釋迦文。』

當時,眾梵志見聞此事,對佛說:『世尊!這位童子,威儀莊重,光明無量,與佛無異;他在哪位佛所,初發道心,受持的是哪部經典?唯愿天尊,為我們解說。』

Thus have I heard:

At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Magadha country, at the Bodhi-tree site, in the Jizaitian Shrine Monastery in the village of Migia.

At that time, there was a son of a Kapila Brahmin named Maitreya, whose body was golden, possessing the thirty-two marks and eighty minor characteristics, emitting silver light, adorned with gold, like a silver mountain, with immeasurable majestic light, who came to where the Buddha was.

At that time, the World Honored One was walking in the forest with twelve hundred and fifty monks; and there were also five hundred braided-hair Brahmins and others, who saw Maitreya from afar, with dignified deportment and pure marks, prostrating themselves with their five limbs to the ground, like a silver mountain collapsing, forming a gathering of golden flowers, interspersed with various treasures. The golden flowers and golden platforms, with seven treasures as fruits, within the pavilions, there were wonderful sounds, reciting verses:

'I see the Muni Honored One, whose face is always pure, with hundreds of blessings and unique marks, unparalleled in the world; the defilements of afflictions are forever exhausted, wisdom is completely fulfilled, I always take refuge, with body and mind without weariness. Therefore, I with my five limbs, wish to obtain supreme peace and joy, free from suffering and fear, I respectfully bow to Shakyamuni.'

At that time, the Brahmins, having seen and heard this, said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! This youth, with dignified deportment and immeasurable light, is no different from the Buddha; in which Buddha's presence did he first generate the aspiration for enlightenment, and which sutra did he uphold? We beseech the Heavenly Honored One to explain it to us.'

佛告式干梵志:「汝今諦聽!善思念之!吾當為汝,分別解說,令汝歡喜!

「乃往過去,無量無邊,阿僧祇劫時,有世界名勝花敷,佛號彌勒!恒以慈心,四無量法,教化一切。

「彼佛說經,名『慈三昧光大悲海云』,若有聞者,即得超越,百億萬劫,生死之罪,必得成佛,無有疑慮。

「時彼國中,有大婆羅門,名一切智光明,聰慧多智,廣博眾經;世間技藝,六十四能,無不綜練。

「聞佛出世,說《慈三昧光大悲海云經》,即以世間一切義論,難詰彼佛,盡其辭辯,而不能屈。

「即便信伏為佛弟子,尋發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,而作是言:『我今于佛法中,誦持《大慈三昧光大悲海云經》,以此功德,愿于未來過算數劫,必得成佛而號彌勒。』

「於是舍家即入深山,長髮為相,修行梵行;八千歲中,少欲無事,乞食自活,誦持是經,一心除亂。

「彼時世間,有雨星現,國王淫荒,彗星橫流,連雨不止;洪水暴漲,仙人端坐,不得乞食,經歷七日

佛陀告訴式干梵志:『你現在仔細聽!好好思考!我將為你分別解說,讓你歡喜!』 『在過去無量無邊的阿僧祇劫時,有一個世界名叫勝花敷,那裡的佛號為彌勒!他總是以慈悲之心,用四無量法教化一切眾生。』 『那位佛所說的經,名為《慈三昧光大悲海云》,如果有眾生聽聞此經,就能超越百億萬劫的生死罪業,必定能夠成佛,毫無疑問。』 『當時那個國家中,有一位大婆羅門,名叫一切智光明,他聰明睿智,博覽群經;世間的各種技藝,六十四種才能,沒有不精通的。』 『他聽說佛陀出世,宣講《慈三昧光大悲海云經》,就用世間一切的義理來詰難佛陀,用盡他的辯才,卻不能使佛陀屈服。』 『他隨即信服,成為佛陀的弟子,並立刻發起了無上正等正覺之心,說道:『我今在佛法中,誦持《大慈三昧光大悲海云經》,以此功德,愿在未來經過無數劫后,必定成佛,佛號也叫彌勒。』 『於是他捨棄家庭,進入深山,留長髮作為標誌,修行梵行;在八千年中,他少欲無求,靠乞食為生,誦持這部經,一心排除雜念。』 『那時世間出現了雨星,國王淫亂荒唐,彗星橫流,連綿不斷地下雨;洪水暴漲,仙人端坐,無法乞食,經歷了七天。』

The Buddha said to the Brahmin Śikṣaka: 'Now listen carefully! Think well! I will explain it to you separately, so that you may rejoice!' 'In the immeasurable, boundless asamkhya kalpas of the past, there was a world named Victorious Flower Bloom, and the Buddha there was named Maitreya! He always used a compassionate heart and the Four Immeasurables to teach all beings.' 'The sutra spoken by that Buddha was named 'Compassionate Samadhi Light Great Compassion Cloud Sea'. If any being hears this sutra, they will transcend the sins of birth and death for hundreds of millions of kalpas, and they will surely become a Buddha, without any doubt.' 'At that time, in that country, there was a great Brahmin named All-Knowing Light, who was intelligent and wise, and well-versed in many scriptures; he was proficient in all worldly arts, the sixty-four skills, without exception.' 'When he heard that the Buddha had appeared in the world and was preaching the 'Compassionate Samadhi Light Great Compassion Cloud Sea Sutra', he used all worldly doctrines to challenge the Buddha, exhausting his eloquence, but he could not subdue the Buddha.' 'He immediately submitted and became a disciple of the Buddha, and immediately aroused the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, saying: 'Now, in the Buddha's Dharma, I will recite and uphold the 'Great Compassionate Samadhi Light Great Compassion Cloud Sea Sutra'. With this merit, I vow that in the future, after countless kalpas, I will surely become a Buddha, and my Buddha name will also be Maitreya.' 'Then he abandoned his family and entered the deep mountains, keeping his hair long as a sign, practicing pure conduct; for eight thousand years, he had few desires and no concerns, living by begging for food, reciting and upholding this sutra, and focusing his mind to eliminate distractions.' 'At that time, rain stars appeared in the world, the king was licentious and dissolute, comets streaked across the sky, and it rained continuously; the floods rose violently, the ascetic sat still, unable to beg for food, and this lasted for seven days.'

「時彼林中,有五百白兔,有一兔王母子二獸;見於仙人,七日不食,而作是言:『今此仙人,為佛道故,不食多日,命不云遠;法幢將崩,法海將竭,我今當爲無上大法,令得久住,不惜身命。』

「即告諸兔:『一切諸行,皆悉無常,眾生愛身,空生空死,未曾為法;我今欲為一切眾生,作大橋樑,令法久住,供養法師。』

「爾時,兔王即為群兔,而說偈言:

「『若有畜生類,  得聞諸佛名, 永離三惡道,  不生八難處。 若聞法奉行,  生處常值佛, 信法無疑惑,  歸依賢聖僧。 隨順諸戒行,  如是疾得佛, 必至大涅槃,  常受無上樂。』

「爾時,兔王說此偈已,告諸兔言:『我今以身欲供養法,汝等宜當各各隨喜。所以者何?我從多劫喪身無數,三毒所使為鳥獸形,唐生唐死未曾為法;吾今欲為無上法故,棄捨身命供養法師。』

「時,山樹神即積香薪以火然之,兔王母子,圍繞仙人足滿七匝,白言:『大師!我今為法供養尊者。』仙人告言:『汝是畜生,雖有慈心何緣能辦?』兔白仙人:『我自以身供養仁者,為法久住,令諸眾生得饒益故。』作此語已,即語其子:『汝可隨意求覓水草,繫心思惟正念三寶

當時,在那片樹林中,有五百隻白兔,其中有一隻兔王和它的幼崽。它們看見那位仙人,七天沒有進食,於是說道:『這位仙人爲了追求佛道,已經多日不食,生命岌岌可危;佛法的旗幟將要倒塌,佛法的海洋將要枯竭,我今天應當爲了無上的佛法,讓它長久住世,不惜犧牲自己的生命。』 它隨即告訴眾兔子:『一切事物都是無常的,眾生愛惜自己的身體,卻空生空死,從未爲了佛法做過什麼;我今天想要為一切眾生,做一座大橋樑,讓佛法長久住世,供養這位法師。』 當時,兔王就為眾兔子,說了這首偈語: 『如果畜生之類,能夠聽聞諸佛的名號,就能永遠脫離三惡道,不再出生在八難之處。 如果聽聞佛法並奉行,出生之處常常能遇到佛,對佛法深信不疑,歸依賢聖僧。 隨順各種戒律修行,這樣就能迅速成佛,必定到達大涅槃,永遠享受無上的快樂。』 當時,兔王說完這首偈語后,告訴眾兔子說:『我今天想用自己的身體來供養佛法,你們都應當各自隨喜。這是為什麼呢?我從多劫以來喪失身體無數次,被貪嗔癡三毒驅使,淪為鳥獸之形,徒然生生死死,從未爲了佛法做過什麼;我今天想要爲了無上的佛法,捨棄自己的生命來供養法師。』 這時,山神就堆積香木柴並點燃了火,兔王母子,圍繞仙人的腳走了七圈,說道:『大師!我們今天爲了佛法供養您。』仙人說道:『你們是畜生,雖然有慈悲心,又怎麼能做到呢?』兔子告訴仙人:『我用自己的身體供養您,爲了佛法長久住世,讓一切眾生得到利益。』說完這話,就對它的孩子說:『你可以隨意去尋找水草,專心思考正念三寶。』

At that time, in that forest, there were five hundred white rabbits, and among them was a rabbit king and its offspring. They saw the ascetic, who had not eaten for seven days, and said: 'This ascetic, for the sake of seeking the Buddha's path, has not eaten for many days, and his life is in danger; the banner of the Dharma is about to fall, and the ocean of the Dharma is about to dry up. Today, I should, for the sake of the supreme Dharma, make it abide for a long time, without sparing my own life.' It then told the rabbits: 'All things are impermanent, sentient beings cherish their bodies, yet they are born and die in vain, never having done anything for the Dharma; today I want to be a great bridge for all sentient beings, to make the Dharma abide for a long time, and to make offerings to this Dharma master.' At that time, the rabbit king spoke this verse for the rabbits: 'If beings of the animal realm, can hear the names of all Buddhas, they will forever be free from the three evil paths, and will not be born in the eight difficulties. If they hear the Dharma and practice it, they will often encounter Buddhas in their place of birth, have unwavering faith in the Dharma, and take refuge in the noble Sangha. By following the precepts and practicing, they will quickly attain Buddhahood, surely reach great Nirvana, and forever enjoy supreme bliss.' At that time, after the rabbit king finished speaking this verse, it told the rabbits: 'Today I want to use my body to make offerings to the Dharma, you should all rejoice accordingly. Why is this? I have lost my body countless times in many kalpas, driven by the three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance, becoming a bird or beast, living and dying in vain, never having done anything for the Dharma; today I want to, for the sake of the supreme Dharma, give up my life to make offerings to the Dharma master.' At this time, the mountain god piled up fragrant firewood and lit it, and the rabbit king and its offspring walked around the ascetic's feet seven times, saying: 'Master! Today we offer ourselves to you for the sake of the Dharma.' The ascetic said: 'You are animals, although you have compassion, how can you do this?' The rabbit told the ascetic: 'I offer my body to you, for the sake of the Dharma abiding for a long time, so that all sentient beings may benefit.' After saying this, it said to its child: 'You can freely go and find water and grass, and focus your mind on contemplating the Three Jewels.'

「爾時,兔子聞母所說,跪白母言:『如尊所說,無上大法,欲供養者,我亦愿樂。』作此語已,自投火中,母隨後入。

「當於菩薩捨身之時,天地大動,乃至色界及以諸天,皆雨天華持用供養。

「肉熟之後,時山樹神白仙人言:『兔王母子,為供養故,投身火中,今肉已熟,汝可食之。』

「時彼仙人,聞樹神語,悲不能言,以所誦經書置樹葉,又說偈曰:

「『寧當然身破眼目,  不忍行殺食眾生。 諸佛所說慈悲經,  彼經中說行慈者, 寧破骨髓出頭腦,  不忍啖肉食眾生。 如佛所說食肉者,  此人行慈不滿足, 常受短命多病身,  迷沒生死不成佛。』

「時彼仙人,說此偈已,因發誓言:『愿我世世不起殺想,恒不啖肉,入白光明慈三昧,乃至成佛制斷肉戒。』作此語已,自投火坑與兔並命。

「是時,天地六種震動,天神力故,樹放光明,金色晃曜照千國土。

「時彼國中諸人民等,見金色光從山樹出,尋光來至,既見仙人及以二兔死在火中,見所說偈並得佛經,持還上王。

「王聞此法傳告共宣,令聞此者皆發無上正真道心

『那時,兔子聽到母親說的話,跪下對母親說:『如您所說,無上的大法,想要供養的話,我也願意。』說完這話,就自己跳入火中,母親也隨後跳入。 『當菩薩捨身的時候,天地大震動,甚至**以及諸天,都降下天花來供養。 『肉熟了之後,當時的山樹神告訴仙人說:『兔王母子,爲了供養的緣故,投身火中,現在肉已經熟了,您可以吃了。』 『當時的仙人,聽到樹神的話,悲傷得說不出話來,把所誦的經書放在樹葉上,又說了偈語: 『寧願讓身體燃燒,眼睛破裂,也不忍心殺害食用眾生。 諸佛所說的慈悲經,那經中說行慈悲的人,寧願粉碎骨髓,取出頭腦,也不忍心吃肉食用眾生。 如佛所說吃肉的人,這個人行慈悲是不圓滿的,常常遭受短命多病的身體,迷失在生死輪迴中不能成佛。』 『當時的仙人,說完這偈語后,就發誓說:『愿我生生世世不起殺念,永遠不吃肉,進入白光明慈三昧,乃至成佛制定斷肉戒。』說完這話,就自己跳入火坑與兔子一同死去。 『這時,天地發生六種震動,因為天神的力量,樹木放出光明,金色的光芒照耀著千個國土。 『當時那個國家的人民等,看到金色的光芒從山樹中發出,就循著光芒來到這裡,看到仙人以及兩隻兔子死在火中,看到所說的偈語並得到佛經,就帶回去獻給國王。 『國王聽到這個佛法,就傳告大家宣揚,讓聽到的人都發起無上正真的道心。』

『At that time, the rabbit, hearing what his mother said, knelt and said to his mother: 『As you say, the supreme Dharma, if one wishes to make offerings, I am also willing.』 Having said this, he threw himself into the fire, and his mother followed him in. 『When the Bodhisattva gave up his body, the heavens and earth shook greatly, and even the ** and the various heavens rained down heavenly flowers as offerings. 『After the flesh was cooked, the mountain tree spirit then said to the hermit: 『The rabbit king and his mother, for the sake of making offerings, threw themselves into the fire. Now the flesh is cooked, you may eat it.』 『At that time, the hermit, hearing the tree spirit』s words, was so grieved that he could not speak. He placed the scriptures he had been reciting on a tree leaf and then spoke a verse: 『I would rather burn my body and break my eyes than bear to kill and eat living beings. The compassionate sutras spoken by all Buddhas, in those sutras it is said that those who practice compassion would rather crush their marrow and extract their brains than bear to eat the flesh of living beings. As the Buddha said, those who eat meat, their practice of compassion is not complete, they will often suffer short lives and sickly bodies, and be lost in the cycle of birth and death, unable to become a Buddha.』 『At that time, the hermit, having spoken this verse, then made a vow: 『May I in all my lives not have thoughts of killing, never eat meat, enter the Samadhi of White Light Compassion, and even become a Buddha and establish the precept of abstaining from meat.』 Having said this, he threw himself into the fire pit and died with the rabbits. 『At this time, the heavens and earth shook in six ways. Because of the power of the heavenly gods, the trees emitted light, and golden rays illuminated a thousand lands. 『At that time, the people of that country, seeing the golden light emanating from the mountain trees, followed the light to this place. They saw the hermit and the two rabbits dead in the fire, saw the verse that had been spoken, and obtained the Buddhist scriptures, which they took back and presented to the king. 『The king, hearing this Dharma, proclaimed it to all, so that those who heard it would all develop the supreme and true mind of the Way.』

佛告式干:「汝今當知,爾時白兔王者,今現我身釋迦文尼佛是;時兔兒者,今羅睺羅是;時誦經仙人者,今此眾中,婆羅門子,彌勒菩薩摩訶薩是。我涅槃后五十六億萬歲,當於穰佉轉輪聖王國土,華林園中金剛座處,龍華菩提樹下,得成佛道,轉妙法輪。

「時五百群兔者,今摩訶迦葉等五百比丘是;時二百五十山樹神者,舍利弗、目犍連等二百五十比丘是;時千國王,跋陀婆羅等千菩薩是。彼王國土諸人民等得聞經者,從我出世乃至樓至,于其中間受法弟子得道者是。」

佛告式干:「菩薩求法,勤苦歷劫,不惜身命;雖復從報,受畜生身,常能為法,不惜軀命,投於火坑,以身供養;便得超越,九百萬億劫,生死之罪;於是得在恒河沙等無量諸佛先,先彌勒前得成佛道。汝等云何不勤為法?」

佛說是語時,式乾等五百梵志求佛出家。佛言:「善來!」鬚髮自落,即成沙門。佛為說法,豁然意解成阿羅漢;八萬諸天亦發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。

時會大眾,聞佛所說,各各稱讚,菩薩所行

佛陀告訴式干:『你現在應當知道,當時的白兔王,就是現在我釋迦牟尼佛;當時的兔兒,就是現在的羅睺羅;當時誦經的仙人,就是現在此眾中的婆羅門子,彌勒菩薩摩訶薩。我涅槃后五十六億萬歲,將會在穰佉轉輪聖王的國土,華林園中的金剛座處,龍華菩提樹下,成就佛道,轉動微妙的法輪。 『當時的五百群兔,就是現在的大迦葉等五百比丘;當時的二百五十山樹神,就是舍利弗、目犍連等二百五十比丘;當時的千位國王,就是跋陀婆羅等千位菩薩。那些國王國土中的人民,凡是聽聞過佛經的,從我出世到樓至佛出世之間,接受佛法教導而得道的弟子都是。』 佛陀告訴式干:『菩薩爲了求法,勤奮刻苦地經歷無數劫,不惜生命;即使因為業報而投生為畜生,也常常爲了佛法,不惜自己的身體和生命,投身於火坑,以身體供養;這樣便能超越九百萬億劫的生死罪業;因此得以在恒河沙數般無量的諸佛之前,在彌勒菩薩之前成就佛道。你們為什麼不勤奮地爲了佛法修行呢?』 佛陀說完這些話時,式乾等五百梵志請求跟隨佛陀出家。佛陀說:『善來!』他們的鬚髮自然脫落,立刻成為沙門。佛陀為他們說法,他們豁然開悟,成為阿羅漢;八萬諸天也發起了無上正等正覺之心。 當時在法會的大眾,聽聞佛陀所說,各自稱讚菩薩的修行。

The Buddha told Shikkan: 'You should know now that the white rabbit king at that time is now me, Shakyamuni Buddha; the rabbit child at that time is now Rahula; the reciting ascetic at that time is now the Brahmin son, Maitreya Bodhisattva Mahasattva, in this assembly. After my Nirvana, in fifty-six billion years, I will attain Buddhahood at the Vajra seat in the Flower Grove Garden in the land of King Rangkha, under the Dragon Flower Bodhi tree, and turn the wonderful Dharma wheel.' 'The five hundred groups of rabbits at that time are now the five hundred Bhikkhus such as Mahakasyapa; the two hundred and fifty mountain tree gods at that time are the two hundred and fifty Bhikkhus such as Sariputra and Maudgalyayana; the thousand kings at that time are the thousand Bodhisattvas such as Bhadrapara. The people of those kings' lands who have heard the scriptures, from my birth to the birth of the Buddha Louzhi, are the disciples who have received the Dharma and attained enlightenment in between.' The Buddha told Shikkan: 'Bodhisattvas, in seeking the Dharma, diligently and painstakingly go through countless kalpas, not cherishing their lives; even if they are reborn as animals due to karmic retribution, they always, for the sake of the Dharma, do not cherish their bodies and lives, throwing themselves into fire pits, offering their bodies; thus they can transcend the sins of nine million billion kalpas of birth and death; therefore, they are able to attain Buddhahood before countless Buddhas like the sands of the Ganges, before Maitreya. Why do you not diligently practice for the Dharma?' When the Buddha finished speaking these words, Shikkan and the five hundred Brahmins requested to leave home with the Buddha. The Buddha said: 'Welcome!' Their beards and hair naturally fell off, and they immediately became Shramanas. The Buddha preached the Dharma to them, and they suddenly understood and became Arhats; eighty thousand devas also aroused the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. The assembly at that time, hearing what the Buddha said, each praised the practice of the Bodhisattva.

舍利弗白佛言:「時彼仙人,投火坑已,為生何處?」佛告舍利弗:「時彼仙人,投火坑已,生於梵世,普為一切說大梵法,乃至成佛轉大梵輪,所說經典亦名『慈三昧光大悲海云』。

「所制波羅提木叉,不行慈者名犯禁人;其食肉者犯于重禁,後身生處常飲熱銅,至彼仙人得作佛時,如《彌勒菩薩下生經》說。」

尊者阿難,聞佛所說,即從坐起,偏袒右肩,右膝著地,合掌向佛,叉手長跪,而白佛言:「世尊!彌勒成佛所說戒法,乃以慈心制不食肉,為犯重禁,甚奇甚特!」

時,會大眾,異口同音,皆共稱讚,彼國眾生不食肉戒:「愿生彼國!」世尊悉記,當得往生。

尊者阿難,復白佛言:「當何名此經?云何受持之?」

佛告阿難:「此法之要,名『白兔王菩薩不惜身命為無上道』,亦名『一切智光明仙人慈心因緣不食肉經』,如是受持。」尊者阿難及諸比丘,聞佛所說歡喜奉行

舍利弗問佛說:『那時那位仙人,投入火坑之後,會轉生到哪裡呢?』佛告訴舍利弗:『那時那位仙人,投入火坑之後,轉生到梵天世界,普遍為一切眾生宣說大梵天的法,乃至最終成佛,轉動大梵法輪,他所說的經典也名為『慈三昧光大悲海云』。 『他所制定的波羅提木叉戒律,不實行慈心的人就稱為犯戒之人;那些吃肉的人犯了重戒,後世轉生之處常常飲用熱銅汁,直到那位仙人成佛時,就像《彌勒菩薩下生經》所說的那樣。』 尊者阿難,聽聞佛所說,立即從座位上起身,袒露右肩,右膝跪地,合掌向佛,交叉雙手長跪,對佛說:『世尊!彌勒成佛時所說的戒律,竟然以慈心來制定不吃肉的戒律,並將其視為重罪,真是非常奇特!』 當時,在場的大眾,異口同聲,都共同稱讚那個國家眾生不吃肉的戒律:『愿能往生到那個國家!』世尊都為他們授記,將來必定能夠往生。 尊者阿難,又問佛說:『這部經應當叫什麼名字?應當如何受持呢?』 佛告訴阿難:『這部法的要義,名為『白兔王菩薩不惜身命為無上道』,也名為『一切智光明仙人慈心因緣不食肉經』,應當這樣受持。』尊者阿難以及各位比丘,聽聞佛所說,都歡喜地奉行。

Shariputra asked the Buddha, 'When that ascetic threw himself into the fire pit, where was he reborn?' The Buddha told Shariputra, 'When that ascetic threw himself into the fire pit, he was reborn in the Brahma world, universally teaching the great Brahma Dharma to all beings, and eventually becoming a Buddha, turning the great Brahma wheel. The scriptures he taught are also called 『Compassionate Samadhi Light, Great Compassion Sea Cloud.』 'The Pratimoksha he established states that those who do not practice compassion are considered violators of the precepts; those who eat meat commit a grave offense, and in their future lives, they will constantly drink hot molten copper, until that ascetic becomes a Buddha, as described in the 『Maitreya Bodhisattva』s Descent Sutra.』' Venerable Ananda, upon hearing what the Buddha said, immediately rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms towards the Buddha, crossed his hands, and knelt for a long time, saying to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! The precepts that Maitreya Buddha will establish, using compassion to prohibit the eating of meat and considering it a grave offense, are truly extraordinary and unique!' At that time, the assembly, with one voice, all praised the precept of not eating meat in that country: 'May we be reborn in that country!' The World Honored One predicted that they would all be reborn there. Venerable Ananda then asked the Buddha, 'What should this sutra be called? How should we uphold it?' The Buddha told Ananda, 'The essence of this Dharma is called 『The White Rabbit King Bodhisattva Sacrificing His Life for the Supreme Path,』 and also 『The Sutra of the All-Knowing Light Ascetic』s Compassionate Cause and Abstinence from Meat.』 You should uphold it in this way.' Venerable Ananda and all the monks, upon hearing what the Buddha said, joyfully practiced it.
