佛說醫喻經

西天譯經三藏朝奉大夫試光祿卿傳法大師賜紫臣施護奉 詔譯

如是我聞:

一時世尊在舍衛國中,與苾芻眾俱。是時世尊,告諸苾芻言:「汝等當知,如世良醫,知病識藥,有其四種,若具足者,得名醫王。何等為四?一者識知某病,應用某藥;二者知病所起,隨起用藥;三者已生諸病,治令病出;四者斷除病源,令后不生;是為四種。

「云何名為識知某病,應用某藥?謂先識知如是病相,以如是藥,應可治療,令得安樂。

「云何名為知病所起,隨起用藥?謂知其病,或從風起、或從癀起、或從痰起、或從癊起、或從骨節起、或積實所起;知如是等病所起處,隨用藥治,令得安樂

現代漢語譯本 《醫喻經》 佛陀說《醫喻經》 西天譯經三藏朝奉大夫試光祿卿傳法大師賜紫臣施護奉詔譯 我是這樣聽說的: 一時,世尊在舍衛國,與眾比丘在一起。當時,世尊告訴眾比丘說:『你們應當知道,就像世間的良醫,知道疾病,認識藥物,有四種情況,如果具備這四種,就可以稱為醫王。是哪四種呢?第一種是知道某種疾病,應該用某種藥物;第二種是知道疾病的起因,根據起因用藥;第三種是已經產生的各種疾病,治療使病癥消除;第四種是斷除病根,使以後不再發生;這就是四種情況。』 『什麼叫做知道某種疾病,應該用某種藥物呢?就是先知道這樣的病癥,用這樣的藥物,應該可以治療,使人得到安樂。』 『什麼叫做知道疾病的起因,根據起因用藥呢?就是知道疾病,或者從風起,或者從癀起,或者從痰起,或者從癊起,或者從骨節起,或者從積食引起;知道這些疾病的起因,根據起因用藥治療,使人得到安樂。』

English version 'The Sutra of the Medical Analogy' The Buddha Speaks the Sutra of the Medical Analogy Translated by Shi Hu, the Tripitaka Master, Grand Master of the Dharma Transmission, and Minister of the Purple Robe, who was also the Attendant of the Imperial Court and the Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, under Imperial Decree. Thus have I heard: At one time, the World Honored One was in the country of Shravasti, together with a gathering of Bhikshus. At that time, the World Honored One told the Bhikshus, 'You should know that, like a good physician in the world, who knows diseases and recognizes medicines, there are four conditions. If one possesses these four, one can be called a King of Physicians. What are the four? The first is to know a certain disease and which medicine should be used; the second is to know the cause of the disease and use medicine according to the cause; the third is to treat all kinds of diseases that have already arisen, causing the symptoms to disappear; the fourth is to cut off the root of the disease, so that it will not arise again in the future; these are the four conditions.' 'What is meant by knowing a certain disease and which medicine should be used? It means first knowing the symptoms of the disease, and that such a medicine should be used to treat it, so that one may obtain peace and happiness.' 'What is meant by knowing the cause of the disease and using medicine according to the cause? It means knowing that the disease may arise from wind, or from jaundice, or from phlegm, or from hidden ailments, or from the joints, or from accumulated food; knowing the causes of these diseases, and using medicine to treat them according to the cause, so that one may obtain peace and happiness.'

「云何名為已生諸病,治令病出?謂知其病應從眼出,或於鼻中別別治療而出,或煙薰水灌鼻而出,或從鼻竅引氣而出,或吐瀉出,或於遍身攻汗而出,乃至身份上下,隨應而出;知如是等病可出處,善用藥治,令得安樂。

「云何名為斷除病源,令后不生?謂識知病源如是相狀,應如是除,當勤勇力現前作事,而善除斷,即使其病後永不生,令得安樂。如是等,名為四種知病識藥。

「如來、應供、正等正覺,亦復如是,出現世間,宣說四種無上法藥。何等為四?謂苦聖諦、集聖諦、滅聖諦、道聖諦。如是四諦,佛如實知,為眾生說,而令斷除生法。苦本生法斷故,而老病死憂悲苦惱,諸苦永滅。如來、應供、正等正覺為是利故,宣說如是無上法藥,令諸眾生得離諸苦。諸苾芻,又如轉輪聖王,四兵具足,故得如意自在,如來、應供、正等正覺亦復如是。」

佛說此經已,諸苾芻眾,歡喜信受

現代漢語譯本 『什麼叫做治療已產生的疾病,使病排出呢?就是知道疾病應該從眼睛排出,或者在鼻子里分別治療使之排出,或者用煙燻水灌鼻使之排出,或者從鼻孔引氣使之排出,或者通過嘔吐瀉下排出,或者在全身發汗排出,乃至身體的上下部分,根據情況使之排出;知道這些疾病可以排出的地方,善用藥物治療,使之得到安樂。 『什麼叫做斷除病根,使以後不再產生呢?就是認識到病根是這樣的形態,應該這樣去除,應當勤奮努力地去做,並且善於斷除,即使疾病以後永遠不再產生,使之得到安樂。像這樣,叫做四種認識疾病和藥物的方法。 『如來、應供、正等正覺也是這樣,出現在世間,宣說四種無上的法藥。哪四種呢?就是苦聖諦、集聖諦、滅聖諦、道聖諦。這四種真理,佛如實地知道,為眾生宣說,從而使他們斷除生法。因為苦的根本生法斷除了,所以衰老、疾病、死亡、憂愁、悲傷、痛苦等一切苦難都永遠消滅了。如來、應供、正等正覺爲了這個利益,宣說這樣的無上法藥,使一切眾生能夠脫離各種痛苦。各位比丘,又像轉輪聖王,四種軍隊都具備,所以能夠如意自在,如來、應供、正等正覺也是這樣。』 佛說完這部經后,各位比丘都歡喜信受。

English version 'What is meant by treating diseases that have already arisen, causing the disease to be expelled? It means knowing that the disease should be expelled from the eyes, or treated separately in the nose to be expelled, or expelled by smoking and irrigating the nose, or expelled by drawing air from the nostrils, or expelled by vomiting and diarrhea, or expelled by sweating all over the body, even from the upper and lower parts of the body, as appropriate; knowing where these diseases can be expelled, using medicine skillfully to treat them, so that they may obtain peace and comfort.' 'What is meant by cutting off the source of disease, so that it does not arise again? It means recognizing that the source of disease has such a form, and should be removed in this way, one should diligently and vigorously do the work, and skillfully cut it off, so that the disease will never arise again, and one may obtain peace and comfort. These are called the four ways of knowing disease and medicine.' 'The Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, is also like this, appearing in the world, proclaiming the four supreme Dharma medicines. What are the four? They are the Noble Truth of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering, and the Noble Truth of the Path to the Cessation of Suffering. These four truths, the Buddha knows truly, and proclaims them to sentient beings, thereby enabling them to cut off the law of birth. Because the root of suffering, the law of birth, is cut off, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, grief, pain, and all sufferings are forever extinguished. The Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, for this benefit, proclaims such supreme Dharma medicine, so that all sentient beings may be liberated from all sufferings. Monks, just like a Wheel-Turning King, who has four armies complete, and thus obtains freedom and ease, the Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, is also like this.' After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, all the monks joyfully accepted it.
