聞如是:
一時佛在比羅勒國,與千二百五十比丘,及眾菩薩、國王、大臣、人民、長者、居士、清信士女,不可稱計,一時來會。
佛告諸比丘:「皆悉寂靜定意聽,我前世初求得菩薩道時,戒行普具,精進一心,修集智慧,行於善權,功德累積,不可稱說。諸天、釋梵、天龍、鬼神、帝王、人民,無能行者。」
阿難聞佛言,更整衣服,長跪叉手,白佛言:「愿欲聞之。」
佛告阿難:「乃往過去無數世,時有菩薩名曰一切妙,仁慈惠施,救濟群生,常行四等心,度世危厄,愍育苦人。時于兜術天上教授天人,常以晝夜各三時定意,思惟三界——照觀十方天下人民善惡之道,知有孝順父母、奉敬三尊、恭順師長、修諸功德者——常以天眼遍察五道。時有迦夷國中有一長者,孤無兒子,夫妻兩目皆盲,心願入山,求無上慧,修清凈志,信樂空閑。菩薩念言:『此人發意所學微妙,而兩目無所見,若入山中者,或墮溝坑、或逢毒蟲,所見枉害。若我壽終,為其作子,供養父母,終其年壽。』

現代漢語譯本 安公的記錄中缺失翻譯,現在附上西晉的記錄。 我聽聞是這樣的: 一時,佛在比羅勒國,與一千二百五十位比丘,以及眾菩薩、國王、大臣、人民、長者、居士、清信士女,人數不可計數,一時都來集會。 佛告訴眾比丘:『你們都安靜下來,集中精神聽。我前世最初求得菩薩道時,戒行圓滿,精進一心,修習智慧,行使善巧方便,功德積累,不可言說。諸天、釋梵、天龍、鬼神、帝王、人民,沒有誰能像我這樣修行。』 阿難聽聞佛的言語,整理衣物,長跪合掌,對佛說:『我願意聽聞。』 佛告訴阿難:『在過去無數世之前,那時有一位菩薩名叫一切妙,他仁慈惠施,救濟眾生,常行四等心,度脫世間的危難,憐憫養育受苦的人。當時他在兜率天上教導天人,常常在白天和夜晚各三次入定,思惟三界——觀察十方天下人民的善惡之道,知道有孝順父母、奉敬三寶、恭順師長、修諸功德的人——他常常用天眼遍察五道。當時在迦夷國中有一位長者,孤獨沒有兒子,夫妻倆眼睛都瞎了,他們心裡想入山,求無上智慧,修清凈的志向,喜歡空閑。菩薩心想:『這個人發心所學非常微妙,但是兩眼看不見,如果入山的話,可能會掉入溝壑,或者遇到毒蟲,所見都是枉害。如果我壽命終結,就為他們做兒子,供養父母,直到他們終老。』 『於是菩薩壽命終結,就下生到盲人父母的家中做兒子。』
English version The Sutra of the Bodhisattva Śyāma Spoken by the Buddha The translation is missing in An Gong's records, now attached from the Western Jin records. Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the country of Pirolaka, with twelve hundred and fifty bhikshus, as well as many bodhisattvas, kings, ministers, people, elders, laymen, and devout laywomen, an uncountable number, all gathered together. The Buddha told the bhikshus: 'All of you be quiet and listen attentively. When I first sought the Bodhisattva path in my past lives, my precepts were complete, I was diligent and single-minded, cultivated wisdom, practiced skillful means, and accumulated immeasurable merit. No one among the gods, Śakra, Brahma, dragons, spirits, kings, or people could practice like I did.' Upon hearing the Buddha's words, Ananda adjusted his robes, knelt with palms together, and said to the Buddha: 'I wish to hear it.' The Buddha told Ananda: 'In the countless past lives, there was a bodhisattva named All-Wonderful, who was benevolent and generous, saving all beings, constantly practicing the four immeasurable minds, delivering the world from dangers, and compassionately nurturing those who suffered. At that time, he was teaching the devas in the Tusita Heaven, and he would enter samadhi three times each day and night, contemplating the three realms—observing the good and evil ways of the people in the ten directions, knowing those who were filial to their parents, revered the Three Jewels, respected their teachers, and cultivated various merits—he would often use his divine eye to observe the five paths. At that time, in the country of Kashi, there was an elder who was lonely and had no son, and both he and his wife were blind. They wished to enter the mountains, seek supreme wisdom, cultivate pure aspirations, and enjoy solitude. The bodhisattva thought: 'This person's aspiration is profound, but both his eyes are blind. If he enters the mountains, he might fall into ditches or encounter poisonous insects, and all he sees will be harmful. If my life ends, I will be born as their son, support my parents, and care for them until their old age.' 'Thus, when the bodhisattva's life ended, he was born into the home of the blind parents as their son.'
。父母歡喜,甚愛重之。本發大意欲行入山,以生子故,便留樂世間。子年七歲,號字曰睒。睒至孝仁慈,奉行十善,不殺、不盜、不淫、不欺誑、不飲酒、不妄言、不綺語、不嫉妒、不咒詛、通道不疑,晝夜精進。奉事父母如人事天,言常含笑不傷人意,行則應法不妄傾邪。父母喜悅,無復憂愁。年過十歲,睒長跪白父母言:『本發大意欲入深山,求志空寂無上正真。豈以子故而絕本願?人在世間無常百變,命非金石對至無期。愿如本意,宜及上時,入山清凈。我自尋隨與父母俱,供養隨意不失時節。』父母報睒言:『子之孝順天自知之,不違本誓便共入山。』
「睒即以家中所有之物,皆施國中諸貧窮者,便與父母俱共入山。睒至山中,以蒲草為父母作屋,施作床蓐,不寒不熱,恒得時宜。適入山中一年,眾果豐茂,食之香甘,泉水涌出,清而且涼,池中蓮華,五色精明,栴檀雜香,樹木豐茂,倍于常時。風雨時節,不寒不熱,樹葉相接,以障雨露,蔭覆日光,其下常涼。飛鳥翔集,奇妙異類,皆作音樂之聲,以娛樂盲父母。師子、熊羆、虎狼、毒獸,皆自慈心相向,無復相害之意,皆食啖草果,無恐懼之心。獐鹿、熊羆、雜類之獸,皆來附近睒,音聲相和,皆作娛樂之音
現代漢語譯本:父母非常高興,極其疼愛他。他原本打算入山修行,但因為有了孩子,就留下來在世間生活。孩子七歲時,取名為睒。睒非常孝順仁慈,奉行十善:不殺生、不偷盜、不邪淫、不欺騙、不飲酒、不妄語、不花言巧語、不嫉妒、不詛咒,信仰正道毫不懷疑,日夜精進修行。侍奉父母如同侍奉上天,說話總是面帶微笑,不傷害別人的心意,行為符合法度,不偏斜不正。父母非常高興,不再有憂愁。到了十多歲,睒長跪在父母面前說:『我原本發願要進入深山,尋求空寂無上的真理。難道因為我而放棄本來的願望嗎?人在世間,無常變化,生命並非金石,終有盡時。希望能夠按照我本來的意願,趁著時機,進入山中清修。我會自己尋找地方,和父母一起,供養你們,不會耽誤時節。』父母對睒說:『你的孝順,上天自然知道。我們不違揹你本來的誓願,就一起入山吧。』 睒於是把家中所有的東西,都佈施給國內的貧窮之人,然後就和父母一起進入山中。睒到了山中,用蒲草為父母搭建房屋,鋪設床鋪,不冷不熱,總是很舒適。剛入山一年,各種果實豐茂,吃起來香甜可口,泉水涌出,清澈涼爽,池塘里的蓮花,五彩繽紛,光彩奪目,栴檀等各種香氣瀰漫,樹木茂盛,比平時更加繁盛。風雨適時,不冷不熱,樹葉相互交錯,遮擋雨露,遮蔽陽光,樹下總是涼爽。飛鳥聚集,各種奇特的鳥類,都發出美妙的音樂聲,來娛樂盲眼的父母。獅子、熊、虎、狼等毒獸,都以慈悲之心相待,不再有互相傷害的念頭,都吃草和果實,沒有恐懼之心。獐、鹿、熊等各種野獸,都來到睒的附近,發出和諧的聲音,都發出娛樂的音樂。
English version: The parents were very happy and loved him dearly. He originally intended to go into the mountains to practice, but because he had a child, he stayed in the world. When the child was seven years old, he was named Shan. Shan was very filial and kind, practicing the ten virtues: not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery, not deceiving, not drinking alcohol, not lying, not using flowery language, not being jealous, not cursing, believing in the right path without doubt, and practicing diligently day and night. He served his parents as if serving heaven, always speaking with a smile, not hurting others' feelings, and acting in accordance with the law, without being biased or crooked. The parents were very happy and no longer had any worries. When he was over ten years old, Shan knelt before his parents and said, 'I originally vowed to enter the deep mountains to seek the empty and supreme truth. Should I abandon my original wish because of me? People in the world are impermanent and changing, and life is not like gold or stone, it will eventually end. I hope to follow my original intention and take the opportunity to enter the mountains for quiet cultivation. I will find a place myself and be with my parents, providing for you, and not delaying the time.' The parents said to Shan, 'Your filial piety is known by heaven. We will not violate your original vow, let's go into the mountains together.' Shan then gave all the things in his house to the poor people in the country, and then went into the mountains with his parents. When Shan arrived in the mountains, he used reeds to build houses for his parents, and laid out beds, which were neither cold nor hot, and always comfortable. Just one year after entering the mountains, various fruits were abundant, tasted sweet and delicious, springs gushed out, clear and cool, the lotus flowers in the pond were colorful and dazzling, the fragrance of sandalwood and other fragrances permeated the air, and the trees were lush, more prosperous than usual. The wind and rain were timely, neither cold nor hot, the leaves intertwined, sheltering from the rain and dew, and blocking the sunlight, the area under the trees was always cool. Birds gathered, and various strange birds made beautiful music to entertain the blind parents. Lions, bears, tigers, wolves, and other poisonous beasts treated each other with compassion, no longer had the intention of harming each other, and ate grass and fruit, without fear. Deer, bears, and other kinds of beasts came near Shan, making harmonious sounds, all making entertaining music.
。睒至孝慈心,履地常恐地痛,天神、山神,皆作人形,晝夜慰勞三道人。三道人一心定意,無復憂愁。睒常與父母,取百種果蓏,以食父母,恒有盈餘,渴飲泉水,無所乏短。父母時渴欲飲,睒著鹿皮之衣,提瓶行取水。麋鹿、眾鳥亦復往飲水,不相畏難。
「時有迦夷國王入山射獵,王遙見水邊有麋鹿,引弓射鹿。箭誤中睒胸,睒被毒箭,舉身皆痛,便大呼言:『誰持一毒箭,射殺三道人者?』王聞人聲,即便下馬,往到睒前。睒謂王言:『象坐牙死,犀坐其角、翠為毛故、獐鹿為皮肉故;今我無角、無牙、無毛、皮肉不可啖,我今坐何等罪死耶?』王問睒言:『卿是何等人?被鹿皮衣,與禽獸無異。』睒言:『我是王國中人,與盲父母俱來入山中,學道二十餘年,未曾為虎狼、毒蟲所見害,今便為王所射殺。』登爾之時,山中大風暴起,吹折樹木,百鳥悲鳴,師子、熊羆、走獸之輩,皆大號呼,動一山中;日無精光、流泉為竭、眾華萎死、雷電動地。時盲父母驚起,自相謂言:『睒行取水,經久不還,將無為虎狼、毒蟲所害?禽獸悲鳴,音聲號呼,不如常時。風起四面,樹木摧折,必有災異。』
「王時怖懅,大自悔責:『我所作無狀!我本射鹿,箭誤相中耳。射殺道人,其罪甚重
睒有至孝慈愛之心,行走在地上常常害怕踩痛了土地。天神、山神都化作人形,日夜慰勞這三位修行人。三位修行人一心安定,不再有憂愁。睒常常和父母一起,採摘各種水果,給父母食用,總是剩餘很多。他們口渴了就喝泉水,從不缺乏。父母有時口渴想喝水,睒就穿著鹿皮衣服,提著瓶子去取水。麋鹿、各種鳥類也來這裡喝水,彼此不相畏懼。 當時,迦夷國王進山打獵,國王遠遠看見水邊有麋鹿,就拉弓射鹿。箭誤中了睒的胸膛,睒被毒箭射中,全身疼痛,便大聲呼喊道:『是誰拿著毒箭,射殺我們這三個修行人?』國王聽到人聲,立刻下馬,走到睒的面前。睒對國王說:『象因為象牙而死,犀牛因為犀角而死,翠鳥因為羽毛而死,獐鹿因為皮肉而死;現在我沒有角、沒有牙、沒有毛,皮肉也不能吃,我今天因為什麼罪而死呢?』國王問睒說:『你是什麼人?穿著鹿皮衣服,和禽獸沒什麼區別。』睒說:『我是王國中的人,和失明的父母一起來到山中,修行二十多年,不曾被虎狼、毒蟲傷害,今天卻被你射殺了。』就在這時,山中颳起大風,吹折樹木,百鳥悲鳴,獅子、熊羆、走獸等都大聲號叫,震動了整個山中;太陽失去了光輝,泉水乾涸,花朵凋零,雷聲震動大地。這時,失明的父母驚醒,互相說道:『睒去取水,很久沒有回來,難道是被虎狼、毒蟲傷害了嗎?禽獸悲鳴,聲音號叫,和往常不一樣。四面颳起大風,樹木被摧折,一定有災禍發生了。』 國王當時感到恐懼,深深地自責:『我所做的事情太不像話了!我本來是射鹿,箭卻誤中了他。射殺修行人,罪過太大了!』
Shǎn had a heart of utmost filial piety and kindness, always fearing to hurt the earth when walking on it. The gods of heaven and mountains all transformed into human forms, comforting the three ascetics day and night. The three ascetics were at peace, with no more worries. Shǎn often gathered various fruits with his parents for them to eat, always having plenty left over. When thirsty, they drank from the spring, never lacking anything. When his parents were thirsty, Shǎn would wear his deerskin clothes, take a bottle, and go to fetch water. Deer and various birds would also come to drink, not fearing each other. At that time, King Jiāyí entered the mountains to hunt. The king saw a deer by the water from afar and drew his bow to shoot it. The arrow mistakenly hit Shǎn in the chest. Shǎn, struck by the poisoned arrow, felt pain all over his body and cried out loudly: 'Who is it that holds a poisoned arrow, shooting and killing us three ascetics?' Upon hearing the human voice, the king immediately dismounted and went to Shǎn. Shǎn said to the king: 'Elephants die for their tusks, rhinoceroses for their horns, kingfishers for their feathers, and deer for their skin and flesh; now I have no horns, no tusks, no feathers, and my skin and flesh are not edible, what crime have I committed to die today?' The king asked Shǎn: 'Who are you? Wearing deerskin clothes, you are no different from beasts.' Shǎn said: 'I am a person from the kingdom, and I came to the mountains with my blind parents to practice asceticism for over twenty years. I have never been harmed by tigers, wolves, or poisonous insects, but today I am shot and killed by you.' At that moment, a great storm arose in the mountains, breaking trees, birds cried sadly, lions, bears, and other beasts all roared loudly, shaking the entire mountain; the sun lost its light, the spring dried up, flowers withered, and thunder shook the earth. At this time, the blind parents woke up in alarm and said to each other: 'Shǎn went to fetch water and has not returned for a long time. Could he have been harmed by tigers, wolves, or poisonous insects? The beasts are crying sadly, their voices are different from usual. A great wind is blowing from all directions, and trees are being broken. Surely some disaster has occurred.' The king was terrified and deeply remorseful: 'What I have done is outrageous! I originally intended to shoot a deer, but the arrow mistakenly hit him. Killing an ascetic is a grave sin!'
。坐貪小肉,重受其殃。我今以一國珍寶、庫藏之物、宮殿、妓女、丘郭、城邑,以救子命。』時王便前,以手挽拔睒胸箭,箭深不可得出。飛鳥、走獸,四面雲集,號呼動一山中。王益惶怖,三百六十節節皆動。睒語王言:『非王之過,自我宿罪所致。我不惜身命,但憐念我盲父母,年既衰老,兩目無所見。一旦無我,亦當終歿,無所依仰。以是之故,用自懊惱酷毒耳。』
「登爾之時,諸天龍神、山神、水神、樹神,皆為肅動。王復重言:『我寧入泥犁中,百劫受罪,使睒身活。』長跪向睒悔過言:『若子命終,我當不復還國,便住山中,供養卿父母,如卿在時,勿以爲念。諸天龍神皆當證知,不負此誓。』睒聞王此誓言,雖被毒箭,心喜意悅,雖死不恨:『以我盲父母累王供養,道人現世罪滅,得福無量。』王言:『卿語我父母處,及子未死,語我知之。』睒即指示語:『從此步徑去是不遠,自當見一草屋,我父母在其中止。王徐徐往,勿令我父母怖懅,以善權方便,解語其意。為我上謝父母,無常今至,當就後世。不惜我命,但念父母年老,兩目復盲,一旦無我,無所依仰,以此懊惱自酷毒耳。死自當分,宿罪所致,無有得脫者。今自懺悔于父母,從無數劫以來,所行眾惡,於此罪滅、福生
貪圖一點小肉,卻要承受更大的災禍。我現在用一國的珍寶、庫藏之物、宮殿、**、丘郭、城邑,來救你的性命。』當時國王上前,用手去拔睒胸口的箭,箭插得很深,拔不出來。飛鳥、走獸,四面八方聚集過來,號叫的聲音震動了整座山。國王更加惶恐,全身三百六十個關節都在顫抖。睒對國王說:『這不是您的過錯,是我自己前世的罪孽所致。我並不愛惜自己的性命,只是可憐我那雙目失明的父母,他們年紀已經老邁,兩眼什麼都看不見。一旦沒有了我,他們也將會死去,無所依靠。正因為如此,我才感到懊惱和痛苦。』 當他倒下的時候,諸天龍神、山神、水神、樹神,都為之震動。國王再次說道:『我寧願下地獄,受百劫的罪,也要讓睒活過來。』他長跪在睒面前懺悔說:『如果你的性命終結,我將不再回國,就住在山中,像你活著的時候一樣供養你的父母,不要為此擔憂。諸天龍神都可以作證,我絕不違背這個誓言。』睒聽到國王的誓言,雖然身中劇毒的箭,心中卻感到歡喜和愉悅,即使死去也沒有怨恨:『讓國王供養我失明的父母,道人現世的罪業得以消除,得到的福報是無量的。』國王說:『你告訴我你父母所在的地方,以及你還沒死的時候,告訴我。』睒立即指著路說:『從這條小路走去不遠,自然會看到一間草屋,我的父母就在那裡居住。你慢慢地走過去,不要讓我父母感到害怕,用善巧方便的方法,向他們解釋清楚。替我向父母謝罪,無常已經到來,我將要前往後世。我並不愛惜自己的性命,只是想到父母年老,雙目失明,一旦沒有了我,就無所依靠,因此感到懊惱和痛苦。死亡是命中註定的,是前世的罪孽所致,沒有人能夠逃脫。現在我向父母懺悔,從無數劫以來,所造作的種種惡業,希望在此罪業消除,福報增長。』
'Greedy for a small piece of meat, one suffers a great calamity. I will now use the treasures of the kingdom, the stores, palaces, **, hills, and cities to save your life.' Then the king stepped forward and tried to pull the arrow from Shǎn's chest, but the arrow was deeply embedded and could not be removed. Birds and beasts gathered from all directions, their cries shaking the entire mountain. The king was even more terrified, and all three hundred and sixty joints of his body trembled. Shǎn said to the king, 'It is not your fault, but the result of my past sins. I do not cherish my life, but I pity my blind parents, who are old and cannot see. Once I am gone, they will also die, with no one to rely on. It is for this reason that I feel regret and pain.' When he fell, the gods, dragons, mountain spirits, water spirits, and tree spirits were all moved. The king said again, 'I would rather go to hell and suffer for a hundred kalpas than let Shǎn die.' He knelt before Shǎn and repented, saying, 'If your life ends, I will not return to the kingdom, but will stay in the mountains and care for your parents as if you were still alive. Do not worry about it. The gods and dragons will bear witness that I will not break this vow.' When Shǎn heard the king's vow, although he was struck by a poisoned arrow, his heart was filled with joy and pleasure, and he had no resentment even in death. 'Let the king care for my blind parents, and the sins of the Taoist in this life will be eliminated, and he will receive immeasurable blessings.' The king said, 'Tell me where your parents are, and tell me before you die.' Shǎn immediately pointed the way and said, 'Go not far along this path, and you will see a thatched hut where my parents live. Go slowly and do not frighten them. Use skillful means to explain the situation to them. Apologize to my parents for me, for impermanence has arrived, and I am about to go to the next life. I do not cherish my life, but I think of my parents, who are old and blind, and once I am gone, they will have no one to rely on, and therefore I feel regret and pain. Death is inevitable, and it is the result of past sins, from which no one can escape. Now I repent to my parents for all the evil deeds I have committed since countless kalpas, hoping that these sins will be eliminated and blessings will increase.'
。愿我與父母,世世相值,不相遠離。愿父母終保年壽,勿有憂患,天龍、鬼神常隨護助,災害消滅,所欲應意,無為自然。』
「王便將數人徑詣父母許。王去之後,睒便奄然而死。飛鳥、禽獸,皆大號哭,繞睒尸上,以舌舐睒身血。盲父母聞此音聲,益用怖懼,彷徨而住。王行馳駃,觸動草木,肅有人聲,父母驚言:『此是何人?非我子行。』王言:『我是迦夷國王,聞道人在山中學道,故來供養道人。』父母言:『大王來大善,勞屈威尊,遠臨草野。王體中安隱不?宮殿夫人、太子、官屬、人民,皆安善不?風雨和調、五穀豐足不?鄰國不相侵害不?』王答道人言:『蒙道人恩,皆自平安。』
「王問訊盲父母:『來在山中,勞心勤苦,樹木之間,飛鳥走獸,無有侵害道人者不?在山中,寒暑隨時,現世安隱不?』盲父母言:『蒙大王厚恩,常自安隱。我有孝子名睒,常為我取百種果蓏,泉水恒自豐饒,山中風雨和調,無所乏短。我有草蓆可坐、果蓏可食。睒行取水,且欲來還。』
「王聞盲父母言,又大傷心,淚出而言:『我罪惡無狀,入山射獵,見水邊有群鹿,引弓射之。箭誤中道人子,睒身被毒箭甚痛故,來語二道人。』父母聞之,舉身自撲,如太山崩,地為震動

May my parents always be healthy and live long, without worries or disasters, may the dragons and spirits always follow and protect them, may disasters be eliminated, may all their wishes be fulfilled, and may everything be natural and effortless.' English version: 'The king then took several people directly to the place of Shan's parents. After the king left, Shan suddenly died. Birds and beasts all cried loudly, circling Shan's corpse, licking the blood on his body with their tongues. The blind parents heard these sounds and became even more frightened, wandering around. The king rode quickly, disturbing the grass and trees, making noises. The parents said in alarm, 'Who is this? It's not the sound of my son walking.' The king said, 'I am the King of Kasi, I heard that there is a Taoist practicing in the mountains, so I came to make offerings to the Taoist.' The parents said, 'It is very good that the great king has come, it is an honor for you to come to this wilderness from afar. Is the king's body well? Are the ladies, the crown prince, the officials, and the people in the palace all safe? Is the weather favorable, and are the five grains abundant? Are the neighboring countries not invading?' The king replied to the Taoist, 'Thanks to the Taoist's blessings, everything is safe.' English version: 'The king asked the blind parents, 'Coming to the mountains, you must be working hard, among the trees, are there any birds or beasts that have harmed the Taoists? In the mountains, with the changing seasons, is your current life peaceful?' The blind parents said, 'Thanks to the great king's kindness, we are always safe. I have a filial son named Shan, who often gets all kinds of fruits for me, and the spring water is always abundant. The weather in the mountains is favorable, and we lack nothing. I have a grass mat to sit on and fruits to eat. Shan has gone to fetch water and should be back soon.' English version: 'When the king heard the blind parents' words, he was even more heartbroken, and with tears in his eyes, he said, 'My sins are great, I went into the mountains to hunt, and I saw a group of deer by the water, so I drew my bow and shot an arrow. The arrow mistakenly hit the Taoist's son, Shan, who was in great pain from the poisoned arrow, so he came to tell the two Taoists.' When the parents heard this, they threw themselves to the ground, like Mount Tai collapsing, and the earth shook.'
。王便自往前扶牽,父母仰天號哭,自訴言:『我子睒天下至孝,仁慈無有過者,踐地常恐地痛,今有何罪而王射殺之?曏者,大風卒起,吹折樹木,百鳥悲鳴,號哭動一山中。我在山中二十餘年,未曾有此災異,疑我子取水,經久不還,必當有故。』諸神皆驚,肅肅而動。母啼號不可復止,父言:『且止!人生無有不死者,無常自然,不可得卻。』且問王言:『睒為射何許,今為死活?』王具以睒口中所言,向盲父母說之。聞王此言,又大感絕:『我一旦無子,俱亦當死,愿王牽我二人,往臨睒尸上。』
「王即牽盲父母往到尸上,父抱其兩腳,母抱其頭著膝上,各以一手捫摸其胸箭,仰天大喚言:『諸天及龍神、山神、樹神、水神,我子仁慈至孝,諸神所知,何能不一哀我子是善子?』母便以舌舐睒胸瘡:『愿毒入我口,我年已老,目無所見,以身代子之命。睒活、我死,死不恨也。』於是,盲父母言:『若睒有至誠至孝者,天地所知,箭當拔出,毒藥當除,睒當更生。』
「於是,第二忉利天王釋座即為大動,以天眼見二道人抱子號哭,乃聞第四兜術天、諸天宮、龍宮,皆儼儼而為動。釋梵四天王即從第四天上來,如人伸臂頃,來下住睒前,以神藥灌睒口中。藥入睒口,箭自拔出,便活如故
於是,國王便親自上前攙扶他們。父母仰天痛哭,自訴道:『我的兒子睒是天下最孝順的人,仁慈善良無人能比。他走路時常怕踩痛地面,如今有什麼罪過,竟被國王射殺了?剛才,突然颳起大風,吹折了樹木,百鳥悲鳴,哭聲響徹整個山中。我在這山中住了二十多年,從未有過這樣的災異,懷疑我的兒子去取水,很久沒有回來,一定出了什麼事。』諸神都感到震驚,肅然不安。母親的哭聲無法停止,父親說:『先別哭了!人生沒有不死的人,無常是自然規律,無法避免。』接著問國王:『睒是被射在哪裡?現在是死是活?』國王把睒臨死前說的話,都告訴了盲人父母。他們聽了國王的話,更加感到絕望:『我們一旦失去兒子,也活不下去了,希望國王能帶我們二人,去到睒的屍體旁。』 國王便攙扶著盲人父母來到屍體旁,父親抱著他的雙腳,母親抱著他的頭放在膝蓋上,各自用一隻手撫摸著他胸前的箭傷,仰天大喊道:『諸天神、龍神、山神、樹神、水神,我的兒子仁慈孝順,諸神都知道,怎麼能不哀憐我的兒子是如此善良?』母親便用舌頭舔舐睒胸前的傷口:『希望毒藥進入我的口中,我年紀大了,眼睛也看不見了,願意用我的生命代替兒子的生命。睒活過來,我死了,也沒有遺憾。』於是,盲人父母說:『如果睒真的有至誠至孝之心,天地都知道,箭就應當拔出,毒藥應當消除,睒就應當復活。』 這時,第二忉利天的天王釋提桓因的寶座劇烈震動,他用天眼看到兩位道人抱著兒子痛哭,又聽到第四兜率天、諸天宮、龍宮,都為之震動。釋梵四天王立即從第四天降臨,如同人伸出手臂的時間,來到睒的面前,用神藥灌入睒的口中。藥進入睒的口中,箭就自動拔出,睒便像原來一樣活了過來。
Then, the king himself went forward to help them up. The parents cried out to the heavens, lamenting: 'My son, Sham, is the most filial person in the world, his kindness and compassion are unmatched. He always feared hurting the ground when he walked, what crime has he committed to be shot by the king? Just now, a great wind suddenly arose, breaking trees, and the birds cried mournfully, their cries echoing throughout the mountain. I have lived in this mountain for over twenty years, and have never experienced such a calamity. I suspect my son went to fetch water and has not returned for a long time, something must have happened.' All the gods were shocked and stirred with unease. The mother's crying could not be stopped, and the father said: 'Stop crying for now! No one can escape death, impermanence is natural and cannot be avoided.' Then he asked the king: 'Where was Sham shot? Is he dead or alive?' The king told the blind parents everything Sham had said before he died. Hearing the king's words, they felt even more desperate: 'Once we lose our son, we will not be able to live either. We wish the king would take us both to Sham's corpse.' The king then led the blind parents to the corpse. The father held his feet, and the mother held his head on her lap, each using one hand to touch the arrow wound on his chest. They cried out to the heavens: 'All the gods, dragons, mountain gods, tree gods, and water gods, my son is kind and filial, as all the gods know. How can you not pity my son, who is so good?' The mother then licked the wound on Sham's chest with her tongue: 'May the poison enter my mouth. I am old, and my eyes cannot see. I am willing to give my life for my son's. If Sham lives, and I die, I will have no regrets.' Then, the blind parents said: 'If Sham truly has a heart of utmost sincerity and filial piety, as heaven and earth know, then the arrow should be pulled out, the poison should be removed, and Sham should be revived.' At that moment, the throne of Sakra, the king of the second heaven of Trayastrimsa, shook violently. He used his divine eye to see two ascetics weeping over their son, and he heard that the fourth heaven of Tusita, all the heavenly palaces, and the dragon palaces were all trembling. The four great heavenly kings of Sakra and Brahma immediately descended from the fourth heaven, as quickly as a person could stretch out their arm, and came to Sham. They poured divine medicine into Sham's mouth. As the medicine entered Sham's mouth, the arrow pulled itself out, and Sham came back to life as before.
。父母驚喜,見睒已死更活,兩目皆開。飛鳥、禽獸皆作歡樂之音,風息云消,日為重光,泉水涌出,眾華五色、樹色,光榮倍于常。
「時王大歡喜,不能自勝,禮天帝釋,還禮父母及子睒:『愿我國財以上道人,身自留住供養,現世罪滅,宿怨得除。』睒答王言:『欲報恩者,王且還國,安慰國人,皆令奉持五戒。王勿復射獵,夭傷蟲獸,現世身不安隱,壽盡當入泥犁中。人居世間,恩愛暫有,別離久長,不得常在。王宿有功德,今得為王,莫以得自在故,而自放恣。』於時國王大自悔責,自今以後,當如睒教敕,不敢有廢。諸隨王射獵者數百人,見睒已死,神人持藥來下,入口即活,父母眼開,皆踴躍發意,奉持五戒,終身不犯。王還國已,宣令國中,諸有貧窮、盲父母,如睒比者,皆當供養,不得捐舍,犯者令有重罪。於是,國中人民以睒活故,上下相教,奉修五戒,修行十善,死得昇天,無入三惡道者。」
佛告阿難:「諸來會者,宿命睒身,我身是也;時盲父者,今現父王閱頭檀是也;時盲母者,今現我母王夫人摩耶是也;迦夷國王者,阿難是也;時天帝釋者,彌勒是也
父母驚喜,看到睒已經死了又活過來,兩隻眼睛都睜開了。飛鳥、禽獸都發出歡樂的聲音,風停了,云消散了,太陽重新發出光芒,泉水涌了出來,各種花朵呈現五彩繽紛的顏色,樹木的顏色也比平時更加光彩奪目。 當時國王非常高興,無法控制自己的情緒,向天帝釋行禮,又向睒的父母和睒行禮:『我願意把國家的財富都用來供養有道之人,自己也留下來供養他們,這樣可以消除今生的罪過,解除前世的怨恨。』睒回答國王說:『如果想報答我的恩情,國王應該回到國家,安撫百姓,讓他們都奉行五戒。國王不要再打獵,傷害蟲獸,這樣今生會不得安寧,壽命終了會墮入地獄。人在世間,恩愛只是暫時的,離別卻是長久的,不能永遠在一起。國王前世有功德,今生才能當國王,不要因為有了權力就放縱自己。』當時國王非常後悔自責,發誓從今以後,一定要按照睒的教誨去做,不敢有絲毫違背。那些跟隨國王打獵的幾百人,看到睒已經死了,神人拿著藥來,讓他入口就活了,父母的眼睛也睜開了,都高興地發願,奉行五戒,終身不犯。國王回到國家后,向全國宣佈,凡是有貧窮、失明的父母,像睒的父母一樣的,都要供養他們,不得拋棄,違犯者要處以重罪。於是,全國人民因為睒復活的緣故,上下互相教導,奉行五戒,修行十善,死後可以昇天,沒有墮入三惡道的。 佛告訴阿難:『各位來參加法會的人,前世的睒就是我;當時的盲人父親,就是現在的父王閱頭檀;當時的盲人母親,就是現在的我的母親王夫人摩耶;迦夷國王,就是你阿難;當時的天帝釋,就是彌勒。』
The parents were overjoyed, seeing that Shǎn, who had died, was now alive again, with both eyes open. Birds and beasts all made sounds of joy, the wind ceased, the clouds dispersed, the sun shone with renewed light, springs gushed forth, and all the flowers were five-colored, the trees more glorious than usual. At that time, the king was overjoyed, unable to contain himself. He paid homage to the Heavenly Emperor Śakra, and then to Shǎn's parents and Shǎn himself: 'I wish to use the wealth of my kingdom to support those who follow the Way, and I myself will stay to serve them, so that the sins of this life may be extinguished and past grievances resolved.' Shǎn replied to the king: 'If you wish to repay my kindness, King, you should return to your kingdom, comfort your people, and have them all observe the five precepts. King, do not hunt again, harming insects and beasts, for in this life you will not find peace, and when your life ends, you will fall into hell. In this world, love and affection are temporary, while separation is long-lasting, and we cannot be together forever. King, you have accumulated merit in past lives, and that is why you are king now. Do not become complacent and self-indulgent because you have power.' At that time, the king was filled with remorse and self-reproach, vowing that from now on, he would follow Shǎn's teachings and dare not disobey them. The hundreds of people who had followed the king on the hunt, seeing that Shǎn had died, and then a divine being had come down with medicine, which brought him back to life upon entering his mouth, and that his parents' eyes had opened, all rejoiced and made a vow to observe the five precepts for the rest of their lives. After the king returned to his kingdom, he proclaimed throughout the land that all those who had poor or blind parents, like Shǎn's parents, should support them and not abandon them, and those who violated this would be severely punished. Thus, because of Shǎn's revival, the people of the kingdom, from the highest to the lowest, taught each other to observe the five precepts and practice the ten virtues, so that after death they could ascend to heaven, and none would fall into the three evil realms. The Buddha told Ananda: 'All those who have come to this assembly, Shǎn in his past life was me; the blind father at that time is now my father, King Śuddhodana; the blind mother at that time is now my mother, Queen Māyā; King of Kāśī at that time was you, Ananda; and the Heavenly Emperor Śakra at that time was Maitreya.'
。使我疾成無上正真之道決,皆是我父母育養慈恩;從死得生,感動天龍鬼神,父母恩重孝子所致;今得為佛,並度國人,皆由孝順之德。」
佛告阿難:「汝廣為一切人民說之,人有父母,不可不孝。道不可不學,濟神離苦,后得無為,皆由慈孝、學道所致。」
佛說經已,諸菩薩、比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷、國王、大臣、人民、長者、居士,莫不加敬,稽首佛足,作禮而去
現代漢語譯本:使我迅速成就無上正真之道,這都是我父母養育的慈愛恩情;從死亡中獲得新生,感動了天龍鬼神,這是因為父母恩情深重,孝子所感召的;如今我得以成佛,並且度化國人,這都是由於孝順的美德。 佛告訴阿難:『你要廣泛地為一切人民宣說,人有父母,不可以不孝順。道不可以不學習,救濟靈魂脫離苦難,最終獲得無為的境界,這都是由於慈愛孝順、學習道法所導致的。』 佛說完這部經后,所有的菩薩、比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷、國王、大臣、人民、長者、居士,沒有不更加敬重的,都叩拜佛的腳,行禮后離去。
English version: That I quickly achieved the supreme and true path, all this is due to the nurturing kindness of my parents; to be reborn from death, moving the dragons, gods, and spirits, is caused by the profound grace of parents and the filial piety of their children; now that I have become a Buddha and am able to liberate the people of the nation, it is all due to the virtue of filial piety. The Buddha said to Ananda, 'You should widely proclaim to all people that those who have parents must not be unfilial. The path must be learned, to save souls from suffering, and ultimately attain the state of non-action, all this is caused by loving-kindness, filial piety, and learning the path.' After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, all the Bodhisattvas, Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis, Upasakas, Upasikas, kings, ministers, people, elders, and lay practitioners, without exception, showed even greater respect, bowed at the Buddha's feet, paid their respects, and departed.
