During the five days of setting up the altar, offerings are made to the monks at each altar. Seven people distribute food and light lamps. Every night, the Great □□□□□ is chanted.

The intentions expressed in setting up the altar, reciting scriptures, offering to monks, chanting Buddha's name, lighting lamps, and giving alms, as listed on the right, are □□□□□ may the Longtian Babu (the eight classes of deities protecting Buddhism) protect Dunhuang, may the Fan Shi Si Wang (the Four Heavenly Kings) pacify the people and quell the border wars, may □□□□□ be auspicious and propitious, may the old year depart to another place, may it be a sign of good omen and auspiciousness, following □□□□ in □ the heavenly court.
