【English Translation】 English version: Hundreds of monks gathered. Among them, who can hold the torch of wisdom, establish the banner of Dharma, propagate the teachings of Buddhism in the present, and build a bridge of liberation for future generations, if not we, the professors? Therefore, it can make the precepts of Bhikkhus and Bhikkhunis diligent and tireless, and the practitioners of the Sangha follow one after another, without end. The ceremony of Posadha can wash away the afflictions of sentient beings, and the merit of upholding the Dharma can illuminate all things in the world like the sun and the moon. May this boundless merit be used first to adorn Brahma, Indra, the Four Heavenly Kings, and the Eight Classes of Dragons and Devas, may their merits increase day by day, their majesty become more and more prosperous, eliminate plagues, benefit sentient beings, so that there is no worry of turmoil on the borders, and the people have the joy of abundant harvests. And may this merit be dedicated to the Holy Divine Tsanpo (title for the Tibetan Emperor), may his wisdom be comparable to that of Yu Shun, and his achievements comparable to those of Shang Tang, bestow grace upon all directions, and cherish the people like a single child. Secondly, may this merit adorn my Jier Shanglun (name of a Tibetan official), may his glory be higher than in previous years, and his joy increase to this day. Furthermore, may this merit adorn the Dudu Shegong (name of a Tibetan official), may his fortune increase year by year, and his lifespan exceed that of gold and stone. Then, may the merit be distributed to the entire Dharma realm, and extended to all sentient beings.
End of the Four Seasons Text
The light of the Buddha shines, and no disaster cannot be eliminated. The wisdom of Prajna flows, and no happiness cannot be attained. Now, opening the treasure of the Eight Dragons (referring to the Eight Dragon Kings), opening the true texts of the Five Mudras (referring to the five hand gestures or esoteric teachings), gathering the Sanskrit chanting of two hundred monks, reciting the scriptures for thirty days, this is protected by our current Holy Divine Tsanpo (title for the Tibetan Emperor), may the origin of merit be narrated here. Respectfully hoping that the morality of the Holy Divine Tsanpo surpasses that of Fuxi and Xuanyuan, his achievements surpass those of Yao and Shun, grasping political power, examining the people's conditions, upholding justice to assist in governing, making the world peaceful, widely promoting the Ten Virtuous Deeds, especially promoting subtle blessings, especially establishing good causes, establishing the Four Seasons Dharma Assembly, hoping that all affairs will last forever. Therefore, from Zhouque (place name) to distant Dunhuang, repairs and reverence are carried out every year, as an eternal precept. This gathering now is the end of the spring season. On this day, the fields are just turning green, the peach blossoms are in full bloom, the color of jade is coming to an end, and the golden words are announcing the end. May this supreme and boundless merit be used first to adorn.
The transformation of the Buddha is everywhere, and the divine power is never tired, grace extends to plants and animals, and happiness fills sentient beings. The Lord of Heaven (referring to the Buddha) alone undertakes these affairs, as for these wonderful things, where is there a need for too many words to describe them? The rise of these auspicious signs must have a reason. Now it is late spring, the beginning of the four seasons, willow catkins are falling from the southern branches, and ice is melting on the northern shores.

【English Translation】 English version: May the transformative deeds of the Guangfa King (Guangfa King, referring to the Buddha) dispel a thousand calamities. May the propagation of the Great Sage's (Dasheng, referring to the Buddha) glorious words lead to ten thousand good deeds. Therefore, not confined to the Moon Palace (Yuedian, referring to a temple), the frost bell is struck at night, gathering the monastic community. They compete to hold banners and canopies, arrayed at the four gates, forming a grand assembly that circles the entire capital city of the prefecture. The golden image of the Buddha is set up, as if not on Vulture Peak (Vulture Peak, also known as Gṛdhrakūṭa, where the Buddha preached). The light from the brow opens like a lotus in the palace. Overturning cities and towns, shaking mountains and valleys, Kāvil (Kāvil, referring to Kapilavastu, the Buddha's hometown) is weary of desire; why wait until old age? It is hoped that the Four Heavenly Kings (Four Heavenly Kings, Buddhist guardian deities) will protect the world, and a hundred blessings will be secretly bestowed, sweeping away wars and disasters from the Heavenly Gate (Tianmen, referring to the gate of heaven), and hiding epidemics in the Earthly Gate (Dihu, referring to the gate of the earth). Auspicious clouds bring the auspicious colors of the world, condensing in the sky, causing inverted weapons to cease, cultivating virtue, and ceasing warfare. May all these merits be dedicated to the Dragon Gods and the Eight Classes of Beings (Dragon Gods and the Eight Classes of Beings, Buddhist guardian deities), wishing their majestic light to be ever radiant and their divine power boundless, so that disasters do not arise and chaos does not occur. Furthermore, with supreme blessings, may we support the holy deity Tsanpo (Tsanpo, the title of the ancient Tibetan dynasty's ruler), wishing all nations to pay tribute and the whole world to come to court. May the imperial fortune be ever prosperous, as long-lasting as gold and stone. Furthermore, with supreme blessings, may we adorn the Jie'er Military Commissioner (Jie'er Dudu, an ancient official position), wishing him a long life and extremely high rank, with messengers from Liaomen (Liaomen, referring to the border) bringing nine halberds (Jiuji, ancient weapons). Then, may these merits be universally bestowed upon the Dharma realm and extended to all sentient beings, relying on this supreme cause to attain the blissful fruit.
A Text for Traveling the City
How great is the manifestation of the benefits of my Dharma King (Fawang, referring to the Buddha)! Therefore, descending from the Tuṣita Heaven (Doushuai Tian, one of the heavens in the Buddhist desire realm), he appears in the royal city. Observing the wonderful forms, there is the suffering of boils and sores. Cherishing the relics surpasses living in palaces. Subduing the Four Maras (Four Maras, referring to the afflictions, the five aggregates, death, and the heavenly demons in Buddhism), he attains perfect enlightenment, dwelling in the Three Realms (Three Realms, referring to the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm in Buddhism), and is uniquely called the Supreme One. The miraculous transformations are immeasurable and cannot be expressed in words. Now is the season of spring sunshine, the earth cracks open, and sprouts grow. Birds sing towards spring, and the wind sways. Thus, the Naiyuan (Naiyuan, referring to a temple) is opened wide, and the lotus palace is opened. The golden Buddha image shines brightly on the thoroughfares, and the silver light from the brow spreads in all directions. Faintly and bustlingly, like a city of swirling white rice. Towering and majestic, like the palaces surrounding Kapilavastu. The noble and the humble must gather, and the great and the small rush like clouds. The sounds of sheng and song compete, emitting wonderful Dharma melodies. They compete to display the Cao Kui (Cao Kui, ancient sacrificial items), hoping that a hundred blessings will descend. A thousand obstacles will dissipate like clouds, seeing the supreme image and obtaining good causes. Gazing upon the wonderful forms, generating blessings. May all these many good deeds, without limiting the good causes, first be used to adorn Śakra and Brahmā (Śakra and Brahmā, referring to Indra and Brahma), the Four Heavenly Kings (Four Heavenly Kings, Buddhist guardian deities), and the Dragon Gods and the Eight Classes of Beings (Dragon Gods and the Eight Classes of Beings, Buddhist guardian deities). May they increase their power and enhance their supernatural abilities, driving away demonic influences and eliminating epidemics. Secondly, with supreme blessings, may we dedicate them to adorn our current holy deity Tsanpo (Tsanpo, the title of the ancient Tibetan dynasty's ruler).

【English Translation】 English version: Pu (universal). Humbly wishing for longevity and stability, like the universe itself, with the four seas submitting. Secondly, using solemn rituals, Shang Lun Mai and Military Governor Du, like clouds and rain, nourish the parched land. In the Ming Dynasty, the tribal leaders should maintain loyalty to the holy war. Then, upwards exhaust the empty realm, and beside the ten directions. Relying on this supreme cause, achieve the path of perfect enlightenment.
Xingcheng Text
Responding to transformations without end, tireless in action. Grace benefiting plants and animals, fortune covering all living beings. The Buddha, the 'Heaven among Heavens,' uniquely possesses such power. As for the wonders within, how can they be expressed by verbose words? The auspiciousness of this gathering has its reasons. Now, as the four seasons are about to end and the three months of spring begin, we bid farewell to the old and welcome the new, eliminating disasters and building blessings. Hoping to strengthen the borders and protect the people. Therefore, the moon palace is no longer silent, and the frost bell is struck at night, gathering monks. Taking out banners and flowers, carrying the Buddha statue, circling the city once through the four gates, the solemn appearance is as radiant as the clouds of Vulture Peak, and the light between the eyebrows is like the descent of Lotus Peak. Overturning cities and markets, shaking valleys and mountains, the prosperity of Shravasti surpassing the city walls is not just for a year. Hoping that the Four Heavenly Kings will protect the world, and a hundred blessings will be added imperceptibly, so that wars will be eliminated invisibly, and plagues will be hidden underground. Hoping that auspicious clouds will spread, and the color of joy will condense in the sky. Inverting weapons, stopping wars, and cultivating virtue. Dedicating all the merits to the dragons, gods and the eight classes of beings. May the Buddha's power be forever glorious and the divine power boundless. May disasters not arise and chaos not occur. Also, offering good blessings to the holy god Tsanpo (title for the Tibetan King). May all nations pay tribute and the four seas come to court. May the national fortune be forever prosperous and as long-lived as gold and stone. May His Royal Highness the Crown Prince's prestige be far-reaching like thunder, and as unfathomable as the Shao Sea. May Lady Changqing's descendants be forever prosperous. May the concubines offer praises like divine flowers. Also, using all the supreme blessings to adorn our Military Governor Du, hoping that he will have boundless fortune.
Xing ** Sutra Text
The Buddhas arise with great compassion, universally saving all sentient beings without discrimination. Seeing different circumstances, responding to the causes of events, old age and weakness, so that those who turn to the Dharma receive blessings. Hoping that those who despise and slander the Dharma will suffer misfortune, all blessings and misfortunes are caused by one's own thoughts, not because the saints have any favoritism or hatred. Now, the meaning of reciting the sutras in this Dharma assembly is that Lun Chepu, the State Minister of our Eastern Army, prays for the soldiers of the Western Expedition, hoping to establish merit. Hoping that you, the Prime Minister, are born with intelligence and endowed with beauty, guarding one side like Mount Yue, and planning strategies in the tent.

Although our Prime Minister was indignant, his hair standing on end in anger, he then selected virtuous and capable generals to lead troops on a western expedition. Although he planned strategies and was resourceful, he still needed to rely on the blessings of merit to ensure peace and success. Therefore, we remotely pray to the monks of the Three Danger Mountains and remotely pray to the Dragon Canon scriptures, hoping that the army will be safe and the country will be forever peaceful. Therefore, we sincerely and wholeheartedly recite the Diamond Sutra, and many monks and nuns proclaim the Prajna Sutra. Thinking about this supreme merit, what could be better? First, we use solemn rituals to offer to the Four Heavenly Kings, Dragon Gods, and Eight Classes of beings who protect the world, wishing that their majestic light will be more prominent and their blessings will increase, so that the Chen and Qi states in the west will be subdued, and the Rong and Di tribes in the north will submit. We also use solemn rituals to offer to the generals and prime ministers on the expedition, humbly wishing that their talents and wisdom will improve day by day, their blessings will accumulate like mountains, their lifespans will be long, and they will sit firmly in high positions. May all the generals and soldiers be protected by the Three Jewels and adorned with all virtues. Then.
Turning the Sutra Text
The benefits of my Buddha-dharma are truly difficult to describe in detail. Those who take refuge in the Buddha-dharma will surely succeed. Now, who is it that opens the Dragon Canon, gathers together to strike the great bell with one heart, and invites two kinds of Sangha? It is our Prime Minister, who respectfully prays for the generals and soldiers on the western expedition, and blesses them to establish merit. Humbly, Prime Minister, you are a spirit descended from a famous mountain, your divine power awes all things, and the people all remember your kindness. Going beyond the border is to appease the people and stabilize the frontier. Since the beginning of this spring, the people in Fuyang have begun to cultivate the land, but thieves have plundered their livestock. Therefore, we have launched a large-scale military campaign to eliminate these evil people. Although our army is strong and our soldiers are brave, merit is the key to avoiding disaster. Therefore, we travel far to the shifting sands, sincerely praying and turning the scriptures. Now, we have done our best, and the supreme merit has been fulfilled. We use solemn rituals to offer to the generals and prime ministers on the expedition, wishing that all Buddhas will protect them and that they will have no worries about being injured. May the Eight Classes of deities secretly bless them, so that they will have the intention of subduing and harmonizing. Then, the people and horses will be safe and smooth, the soldiers will be healthy and peaceful, each will guard their homes, and the war will cease. Then, spread the merit to the Dharma realm and extend it to all sentient beings, relying on this expedient method, all can attain the path of enlightenment.
Placing the Umbrella Text
To eliminate disasters and stabilize turmoil, there is no better method than the secret words of the Buddha's crown. To accumulate blessings and prolong life, one must rely on the recitation of Xingcheng. Now is the season of bright spring sunshine, but the cold is still present, so please ask the monks and nuns of the two divisions to erect a white canopy.

English version: Regarding these five places, who donated to build them? At that time, there was Commander Jie'er, who, for the sake of blessing the people of the whole city and fulfilling their wishes, established this place of merit. Respectfully hoping that Commander Jie'er fairly nurtures all things, and does his utmost to stabilize the border. Fearing that diseases would spread and disasters would occur frequently, he preemptively cultivated great vows and established good causes. Hoping that the Buddhist banner could save the city from the invasion of evil spirits, and erecting the sutra banner to achieve blessings. Now that it is possible to make all things complete and wishes fulfilled, the blessings are long-lasting and immeasurable. Using this supreme merit, first to adorn Brahma, Sakra, the Four Heavenly Kings, the Dragon Gods, and the Eight Classes of Gods and Demigods.
Text for Placing the Umbrella
Generally, observing auspicious signs and giving rise to good thoughts is unsurpassed by the manifested body. Eliminating disasters and fearing misfortune is unsurpassed by the Buddha's Crown Mantra. However, the body without a body manifests a body to relieve suffering; the speech without speech recites the heart mantra to resolve danger. The rise of great events is no greater than this. Now, within the prefecture of Dunhuang, a victorious banner of white dharma is erected, and the Buddha's Crown is placed at the four gates, so that black karma may be swept away. Now, who donated to build this assembly? At that time, there were the two Commanders, Yue Mu Du Gong and others, who built it for the sake of praying for the peace of the whole city. Hoping that Commander Jie'er considers that Dunhuang's west borders the extreme west, and its north neighbors the Hu people, with horses leaping and bows drawn, and thieves without rules. Fearing that they would trample on crops and reduce the source of food and clothing, and that poor harvests would cause the people to worry about hunger. Therefore, they discussed with each other, determined to stabilize the people. To speak of protecting the country and securing the state, nothing surpasses building this sutra banner and umbrella. Hoping to eliminate disasters in barren lands, and eliminate plagues in desolate places. May the five grains be free from the disasters of frost and hail, and all things ascend to the city of longevity. First, use this blessing to dedicate to the holy Tsan-pu (title of the Tibetan King), hoping that the throne will be forever stable and the life as long as gold and stone. May the four seas be clear and all nations pay tribute. Also, use this good deed to adorn Commander Jie'er, so that he may nourish all things like frost and rain, and relieve drought. In the Ming Dynasty tribes, may all officials maintain loyalty to the wise era. Also, use this good deed to adorn the two professors, Acarya (teacher). Hoping that they can completely eradicate all suffering, transcend reincarnation, and have a life as long as the pine trees in winter, and blessings as lush as the grass in spring. Then, slightly benefit plants and animals, extending to the boundless. Relying on this supreme cause, ascend to the path of perfect enlightenment.

【English Translation】 English version: To sweep away calamities, we need to rely on the power of children. Therefore, we let Śūnyatā (善住, emptiness) hear this to increase longevity, and Ānanda (慶喜, great joy) is able to attain his original mind. Goblins fear and flee from punishment, and celestial demons are terrified and seek help. O great divine child, there is nothing to describe you adequately! Now is the time when the gentle breeze blows and dormant creatures begin to stir. What is it that will open banners and canopies, linger among the monastic community, and be solemn and reverent? This is the so-called festival of Yaśas (耶時, fame), and we also discuss figures like Governor Du. They nurture the people as if they were their own children and worry about the country as if it were their own family, fearing that evil influences will wreak havoc in the city and that various products will repeatedly suffer adversity and disaster. Therefore, in the auspicious month of the Three Yangs, we pray to Śākyamuni (釋尊, the Buddha) for three blessings, and at the beginning of each season, we establish the benefits of the Four Gates (四門, the four cardinal directions). We gather all these extraordinary and subtle supreme fields of merit and use them all to adorn Brahmā (梵天, the creator god), Indra (釋天, the king of gods), the Four Heavenly Kings, and the Eight Classes of Dragons and Gods. We humbly pray that the Buddha's majestic light will flourish, that the power of blessings will increase, that the people will be nurtured, and that the country will be protected. Our holy and divine Tsanpo (贊普, Tibetan king). We only wish that your sacred body will be strong and long-lasting, that the days and months will pass, and that the fortune of the kingdom will be ever prosperous. May the heavens be long and the earth enduring, and may the festival's Governor Song Huang be as long-lived as Mount Meru, with blessings and prosperity mutually supporting each other. May the tribal officials and others assist in governing peacefully, with integrity and uprightness. Then the four seasons will be favorable, the five grains will be abundant, all calamities will be eliminated, and myriad auspicious signs will gather. Prajñā (般若, wisdom) divine child is the teacher of all Buddhas, and the masses in the city together universally recite [this].
