【English Translation】 English version: The Sutra of Repentance by Reciting the Names of the Thirty-Five Buddhas (Extracted from the Upali's Questions Sutra) Translated by the Tripitaka Master Śramaṇa Amoghavajra of Daxingshan Temple, who was granted the title of Grand Master of the Three Departments, Special Advanced Official of the Honglu Court, Duke of Su of the State, with a fief of three thousand households, bestowed with purple robes, posthumously granted the title of Minister of Works, with the posthumous name of Dajian, the honorary title of Great Wisdom, and the Great Master of the Great Benevolence Temple, under imperial decree.

'May all the Buddhas and World Honored Ones in all the worlds of the ten directions, who have appeared in the world and uphold the Dharma, observe and have compassion on me. Whether in this life or in other lives, from beginningless time, I have committed many sins, either by myself, or by rejoicing in others' actions, or by instructing others to do so; or I have stolen the property of the Buddha or the Sangha of the four directions, either by myself, or by rejoicing in others' actions, or by instructing others to do so.'
作;或造五無間罪、十不善業道,或自作、或隨喜作、或教他作。由此業障,覆蔽身心,生於八難,或墮地獄、傍生、鬼趣,或生邊地及彌戾車,或生長壽天,設得人身諸根不具,或起邪見撥無因果,或厭諸佛出興於世。如是一切業障,我今對一切諸佛世尊,具一切智者、具五眼者、證實際者、稱量者、知者、見者前,我今誠心悉皆懺悔,不敢覆藏,愿我尸羅律儀復得如故。復愿諸佛世尊攝受護念證明於我,若我今生或復餘生,無始時來於流轉生死,或曾舍施傍生一團之食、或曾持一凈戒、或曾修梵行善根、或曾修少分無上智善根,悉皆合集計校籌量。如三世一切諸佛于最勝無上回向愿中,愿皆迴向無上正等菩提。
「一切罪懺悔, 諸福皆隨喜, 及勸請諸佛, 愿證無上智, 過去及未來, 現在人中尊, 無量功德海, 我今稽首禮。」
(右此三十五佛名並懺悔法,出《烏波離所問經》,能凈業障重罪,現生所求禪定解脫,及諸地位皆能滿足。五天竺國修行大乘人,常於六時禮懺不闕,功德廣多文煩不能盡錄,但依天竺所行者略記之,余如本經所述也)

【English Translation】 English version: What I have done, or created the five heinous crimes (killing father, killing mother, killing an Arhat, disrupting the Sangha, shedding the blood of a Buddha), the ten unwholesome paths of action (killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, greed, hatred, wrong view), whether I did it myself, or rejoiced in others doing it, or instructed others to do it. Due to these karmic obstacles, which cover my body and mind, I am born into the eight difficulties (hell, hungry ghosts, animals, borderlands, long-life heavens, defective faculties, wrong views, no Buddha appearing in the world), or fall into hell, the realm of animals, or the realm of ghosts, or am born in borderlands and among the Mlecchas (barbarians), or am born in the long-life heavens, even if I obtain a human body, my faculties are incomplete, or I develop wrong views denying cause and effect, or I am disgusted by the Buddhas appearing in the world. All such karmic obstacles, I now, before all the Buddhas, World Honored Ones, those who possess all wisdom, those who possess the five eyes (physical eye, heavenly eye, wisdom eye, Dharma eye, Buddha eye), those who have realized the true reality, those who can measure all things, those who know all things, those who see all things, I sincerely and wholeheartedly repent of all of them, daring not to conceal anything, and I wish that my precepts and vows be restored to their original state. I also wish that all the Buddhas, World Honored Ones, will accept, protect, and bear witness to me, if in this life or in other lives, from beginningless time in the cycle of birth and death, I have ever given a morsel of food to an animal, or ever upheld a pure precept, or ever cultivated virtuous roots of pure conduct, or ever cultivated a small portion of the virtuous roots of unsurpassed wisdom, all of them are gathered together, calculated, and measured. Just as all the Buddhas of the three times, in their most supreme and unsurpassed dedication of merit, may all be dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment.
'I repent of all sins, I rejoice in all merits, and I urge all Buddhas, may they attain unsurpassed wisdom. Past, future, and present, the honored ones among humans, with immeasurable merit like the ocean, I bow my head in reverence today.'
(The above thirty-five Buddhas' names and the method of repentance are from the 'Upali's Questions Sutra', which can purify heavy karmic obstacles, fulfill the desired samadhi and liberation in this life, and all stages of practice. The Mahayana practitioners in the five regions of India often perform repentance rituals at six times of the day without fail. The merits are vast, and the text is too voluminous to record completely. It is only a brief record based on the practices in India, and the rest is as described in the original sutra.)
The Buddha speaks the text of repentance with the names of the Thirty-Five Buddhas.
