觀世音菩薩授記經

如是我聞:
一時,佛在波羅奈仙人鹿苑中,與大比丘眾二萬人俱,菩薩萬二千,其名曰:師子菩薩、師子意菩薩、安意菩薩、無喻意菩薩、持地菩薩、般羅達菩薩、神天菩薩、實事菩薩、伽睺多菩薩、賢力菩薩、明天菩薩、愛喜菩薩、文殊師利菩薩、智行菩薩、專行菩薩、現無礙菩薩、彌勒菩薩,如是等上首,菩薩摩訶薩萬二千人俱。復有二萬天子,善界天子、善住天子等,以為上首,皆住大乘。
爾時,世尊與無量百千眷屬圍繞而為說法。
爾時,會中有一菩薩,名華德藏,即從坐起,偏袒右肩,右膝著地,合掌向佛,而作是言:「惟愿世尊,賜我中間,欲有所問。」
佛告華德藏菩薩:「恣汝所問,諸有疑者,吾已知之,當爲解說,令汝歡喜。」
爾時,華德藏白佛言:「世尊!菩薩摩訶薩,云何不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,及五神通,得如幻三昧,以善方便能化其身,隨眾形類所成善根,而為說法,令得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提?」
佛告華德藏菩薩摩訶薩:「善哉!善哉!能于如來等正覺前

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Deer Park at Varanasi, together with twenty thousand great Bhikshus and twelve thousand Bodhisattvas. Their names were: Simha Bodhisattva (Lion Bodhisattva), Simhamati Bodhisattva (Lion-Mind Bodhisattva), Anamati Bodhisattva (Peaceful-Mind Bodhisattva), Anupamamati Bodhisattva (Incomparable-Mind Bodhisattva), Dharanimdhara Bodhisattva (Earth-Holder Bodhisattva), Parada Bodhisattva (Other Shore Bodhisattva), Devadeva Bodhisattva (God of Gods Bodhisattva), Satyartha Bodhisattva (Truth-Meaning Bodhisattva), Gahuta Bodhisattva (Profound Bodhisattva), Bhadravala Bodhisattva (Virtuous-Power Bodhisattva), Divyakara Bodhisattva (Light-Maker Bodhisattva), Priyadarshana Bodhisattva (Pleasing-to-See Bodhisattva), Manjushri Bodhisattva (Gentle Glory Bodhisattva), Jnana-chara Bodhisattva (Wisdom-Practice Bodhisattva), Eka-chara Bodhisattva (Sole-Practice Bodhisattva), Apratihata-darshana Bodhisattva (Unobstructed-Vision Bodhisattva), and Maitreya Bodhisattva (Loving-Kindness Bodhisattva). These were the leading Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, totaling twelve thousand. There were also twenty thousand Devas, with leaders such as the Good Realm Deva and the Good Abode Deva, all dwelling in the Mahayana. At that time, the World Honored One was surrounded by countless hundreds and thousands of attendants, and was expounding the Dharma. Then, in the assembly, there was a Bodhisattva named Pushpakuta (Flower Treasury), who rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and with palms joined, addressed the Buddha, saying: 'World Honored One, I wish that you would grant me the opportunity to ask some questions.' The Buddha said to Pushpakuta Bodhisattva: 'Ask whatever you wish. I know all that you doubt, and I will explain it to you, so that you may be joyful.' Then, Pushpakuta Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! How can a Bodhisattva Mahasattva not regress from Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment), and attain the five supernormal powers, as well as the Maya-samadhi (Illusion-like Samadhi), so that with skillful means, they can transform their bodies, according to the different forms and good roots of sentient beings, and expound the Dharma to them, enabling them to also attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi?' The Buddha said to Pushpakuta Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 'Excellent! Excellent! That you are able to ask such a question before the Tathagata, the Perfectly Enlightened One,'
,問如是義。汝華德藏,已於過去諸佛,殖諸善根,供養無數百千萬億諸佛世尊,于諸眾生興大悲心。善哉!華德藏!諦聽!諦聽!善思念之!當爲汝說。」
對曰:「唯然!愿樂欲聞。」
佛告華德藏菩薩摩訶薩:「成就一法,得如幻三昧。得是三昧,以善方便能化其身,隨眾形類所成善根,而為說法,令得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。何等一法?謂無依止。不依三界,亦不依內,又不依外,于無所依得正觀察。正觀察已,便得正盡,而於覺知無所損減。以無減心悉度正慧,謂一切法從緣而起,虛假而有。一切諸法因緣而生,若無因緣,無有生法。雖一切法,從因緣生,而無所生。如是通達無生法者,得入菩薩真實之道,亦名得入大慈悲心,憐愍度脫一切眾生。善能深解如是義已,則知一切諸法如幻,但以憶想語言造化法耳。然此憶想語言造化諸法,究竟悉空。善能通達諸法空已,是名逮得如幻三昧。得三昧已,以善方便能化其身,隨眾形類而成善根,而為說法,令得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」
爾時,華德藏菩薩摩訶薩白佛言:「世尊!於此眾中,頗有菩薩得是三昧乎?」
佛言:「有!今是會中,彌勒菩薩、文殊師利等六十正士,不可思議大誓莊嚴,得是三昧。」
又白佛言:「世尊!

【English Translation】 English version: The Buddha asked the Bodhisattva Flower-Virtue-Treasury about this meaning. The Buddha said, 'Flower-Virtue-Treasury, you have already planted good roots in the past with all the Buddhas, made offerings to countless hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas, World Honored Ones, and have aroused great compassion for all sentient beings. Excellent! Flower-Virtue-Treasury! Listen carefully! Listen carefully! Think well about it! I will explain it to you.' The Bodhisattva Flower-Virtue-Treasury replied, 'Yes, I am very willing to listen.' The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Flower-Virtue-Treasury, 'Accomplishing one dharma, one obtains the Illusory Samadhi (meditative absorption like an illusion). Having obtained this samadhi, one can skillfully transform one's body, according to the good roots formed by various kinds of beings, and preach the Dharma to them, enabling them to attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment). What is this one dharma? It is non-reliance. Not relying on the Three Realms (desire realm, form realm, formless realm), nor relying on the internal, nor relying on the external, one obtains correct observation in non-reliance. Having correctly observed, one then obtains correct exhaustion, and in awareness there is no diminution. With a mind without diminution, one completely penetrates correct wisdom, understanding that all dharmas arise from conditions, and are illusory and unreal. All dharmas arise from causes and conditions; if there are no causes and conditions, there is no arising of dharmas. Although all dharmas arise from causes and conditions, there is actually no real arising. One who understands the dharma of no-arising in this way can enter the true path of a Bodhisattva, also called entering the great compassionate heart, pitying and liberating all sentient beings. If one can deeply understand this meaning, one will know that all dharmas are like illusions, merely created by memory, thought, and language. However, these dharmas created by memory, thought, and language are ultimately empty. If one can understand that all dharmas are empty, it is called attaining the Illusory Samadhi. Having obtained the samadhi, one can skillfully transform one's body, according to the good roots formed by various kinds of beings, and preach the Dharma to them, enabling them to attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' At that time, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Flower-Virtue-Treasury said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! Among this assembly, are there any Bodhisattvas who have obtained this samadhi?' The Buddha said, 'Yes! In this assembly now, Bodhisattva Maitreya (future Buddha), Bodhisattva Manjushri (foremost in wisdom), and sixty other righteous ones, adorned with inconceivable great vows, have obtained this samadhi.' The Bodhisattva Flower-Virtue-Treasury again said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One!'
唯此世界菩薩得是三昧,他方世界復有菩薩,成就如是如幻三昧?」
佛告華德藏:「西方過此億百千剎,有世界名安樂,其國有佛,號阿彌陀如來、應供、正遍知,今現在說法。彼有菩薩,一名觀世音,二名得大勢,得是三昧。複次,華德藏!若有菩薩,從彼正士,七日七夜聽受是法,便逮得如幻三昧。」
華德藏菩薩白佛言:「世尊!彼國應有無量菩薩得是三昧。何以故?其餘菩薩生彼國者,皆當往至彼正士所,聽受是法。」
佛言:「如是!如是!如汝所言。有無量阿僧祇菩薩摩訶薩,從彼正士得是三昧。」
華德藏菩薩白佛言:「善哉!世尊、如來、應供、正遍知!愿以神力,令彼正士至此世界,又令彼此兩得相見。何以故?以彼正士至此剎故,善男子、善女人,成善根者,聞其說法得是三昧;又愿見彼安樂世界阿彌陀佛,令此善男子、善女人,發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,愿生彼國。生彼國已,絕不退轉阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」
爾時,世尊受彼請已,即放眉間白毫相光,遍照三千大千國土,於此世界草木土石,須彌山、王目真鄰陀山、大目真鄰陀山、斫迦羅山、大斫迦羅山,乃至世界中間幽冥之處,普皆金色,莫不大明。日月暉曜及大力威光,悉不復現。遍照西方億百千剎

【English Translation】 English version: 'Is it only the Bodhisattvas of this world who attain this samadhi (meditative absorption), or are there Bodhisattvas in other worlds who also achieve such an illusion-like samadhi?' The Buddha told Huade (a Bodhisattva's name): 'Passing through hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddha-lands to the west, there is a world called Sukhavati (Land of Bliss), and in that country there is a Buddha named Amitabha Tathagata (Thus-Gone One), Arhat (Worthy One), Samyaksambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), who is now teaching the Dharma. There are two Bodhisattvas there, one named Avalokitesvara (The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World), and the other named Mahasthamaprapta (The One Who Has Attained Great Strength), and they have both attained this samadhi.' 'Furthermore, Huadezang (a Bodhisattva's name)! If there are Bodhisattvas who, for seven days and seven nights, listen to and receive this Dharma from those noble beings (referring to Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta), they will attain the illusion-like samadhi.' Bodhisattva Huadezang said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! There must be countless Bodhisattvas in that country who have attained this samadhi. Why? Because other Bodhisattvas who are born in that country will all go to those noble beings to listen to and receive this Dharma.' The Buddha said: 'So it is! So it is! Just as you have said. There are countless asamkhya (immeasurable number) Bodhisattva-mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas) who have attained this samadhi from those noble beings.' Bodhisattva Huadezang said to the Buddha: 'Excellent! World Honored One, Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha! I wish that you would use your divine power to cause those noble beings to come to this world, and also allow the people of these two worlds to see each other. Why? Because when those noble beings come to this world, good men and good women, if they have cultivated good roots, will attain this samadhi by hearing their teachings; and also, I wish to see Amitabha Buddha of the Land of Bliss, so that these good men and good women will generate the anuttara-samyak-sambodhi-citta (mind of unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment), and wish to be reborn in that country. Once reborn in that country, they will never regress from anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' At that time, the World Honored One, having accepted his request, immediately emitted light from the white hair-mark (urna, one of the 32 marks of a Buddha) between his eyebrows, illuminating the three-thousand great-thousand world system (tri-sahasra-maha-sahasra-lokadhatu, a cosmic system in Buddhist cosmology). The grass, trees, soil, and stones of this world, Mount Sumeru (the central mountain in Buddhist cosmology), Mount Raja-mucilinda (a mountain name), Mount Maha-mucilinda (a mountain name), Mount Cakravada (a mountain name), Mount Maha-cakravada (a mountain name), and even the dark places in the middle of the world, all became golden, and there was no place that was not bright. The radiance of the sun and moon and their powerful light all disappeared. The light illuminated hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddha-lands to the west.
乃至安樂世界,悉皆金色。大光右繞彼佛七匝,于如來前廓然不現。
彼國眾生、菩薩、聲聞,悉見此土及釋迦文與諸大眾圍繞說法,猶如掌中觀阿摩勒果,皆生愛樂歡喜之心,唱如是言:「南無釋迦如來、應供、正遍知。」
於此眾會,比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷,天龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽、人非人等,釋梵四天王,菩薩、聲聞,皆見安樂世界阿彌陀佛,菩薩、聲聞眷屬圍繞,晃若寶山高顯殊特,威光赫奕普照諸剎,如凈目人於一尋內睹人面貌明瞭無礙。既見是已,歡喜踴躍,唱如是言:「南無阿彌陀如來、應供、正遍知。」
時,此眾中八萬四千眾生,皆發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,及種善根,愿生彼國。
爾時,安樂世界菩薩、聲聞,見此剎已,怪未曾有,歡喜合掌,禮釋迦牟尼如來、應供、正遍知,作如是言:「南無釋迦牟尼佛,能為菩薩、聲聞說如是法!」
爾時,安樂世界六種震動,動、遍動、等遍動,搖、遍搖、等遍搖,震、遍震、等遍震。
爾時,觀世音及得大勢菩薩摩訶薩白彼佛言:「甚奇,世尊!釋迦如來現希有事。何以故?彼釋迦牟尼如來、應供、正遍知,少現名號,令無想大地六種震動。」

A great light circled the Buddha seven times from the right, then disappeared before the Tathagata (Buddha). The beings, Bodhisattvas (enlightenment beings), and Sravakas (disciples who hear the teachings) in that land, all see this Saha world and Sakyamuni (Sakyamuni Buddha) surrounded by the great assembly, expounding the Dharma, as clearly as viewing an Amalaka fruit in the palm of their hand. They all give rise to loving and joyful hearts, chanting: 『Namo Sakya Tathagata (Sakyamuni Buddha), Arhat (worthy of offerings), Samyaksambuddha (perfectly enlightened one).』 In this assembly, Bhikshus (monks), Bhikshunis (nuns), Upasakas (male lay practitioners), Upasikas (female lay practitioners), Devas (gods), Nagas (dragons), Yakshas (a type of spirit), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Asuras (demigods), Garudas (large birds), Kinnaras (celestial musicians), Mahoragas (large serpents), humans and non-humans, the Four Heavenly Kings of Sakra and Brahma, Bodhisattvas, and Sravakas, all see Amitabha Buddha in the World of Bliss (Sukhavati), surrounded by his Bodhisattva and Sravaka retinue, shining like a jeweled mountain, lofty and extraordinary, with majestic light illuminating all Buddha lands, as clearly as a person with clear vision sees another's face within a fathom. Having seen this, they rejoice and leap with joy, chanting: 『Namo Amitabha Tathagata (Amitabha Buddha), Arhat (worthy of offerings), Samyaksambuddha (perfectly enlightened one).』 At that time, eighty-four thousand beings in this assembly all generated the Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi mind (the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment), and planted good roots, wishing to be reborn in that land. Then, the Bodhisattvas and Sravakas of the World of Bliss (Sukhavati), having seen this realm, were amazed, feeling it was unprecedented. They joyfully joined their palms, bowed to Sakyamuni Tathagata (Sakyamuni Buddha), Arhat (worthy of offerings), Samyaksambuddha (perfectly enlightened one), and said: 『Namo Sakyamuni Buddha, who is able to expound such Dharma for Bodhisattvas and Sravakas!』 At that time, the World of Bliss (Sukhavati) experienced six kinds of earthquakes: shaking, universal shaking, equal universal shaking; quaking, universal quaking, equal universal quaking; trembling, universal trembling, equal universal trembling. Some jade maidens held red sandalwood incense, sinking sandalwood incense, or black sinking sandalwood incense, standing solemnly. 爾時,華德藏菩薩承佛神力,白佛言:「甚奇!世尊!未曾有也!今此娑婆世界,眾妙寶臺莊嚴如是,是誰威力?」
佛言:「是觀世音及得大勢神通之力,於此世界現大莊嚴。」

At that time, those Bodhisattvas, through their supernatural powers, made the ground of this world as flat as water. They were surrounded by eighty billion Bodhisattvas, adorned with great merit, their appearance dignified and extraordinary, beyond comparison, their light illuminating the Saha world. These Bodhisattvas went to where Sakyamuni Buddha was, bowed their heads to his feet, circumambulated him seven times to the right, and then stood to one side. They said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! World Honored One! This great being is now able to achieve such a samādhi (meditative absorption). Why is this? Because this righteous being is able to manifest the adorned Buddha-lands.' The differences and subjugations of Sravakas and Bodhisattvas are also like this. That Tathagata of Golden Light Lion Play also speaks the Three Vehicles of Dharma for sentient beings. Even if I were to speak for kalpas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, I could not exhaust the merits and adornments of this Buddha-land, nor the happiness of the Bodhisattvas and Sravakas. At that time, in the Dharma of the Tathagata of Golden Light Lion Play, there was a king named King Weide. He governed and transformed a thousand worlds with the righteous Dharma, and was called the Dharma King. This King Weide had many children, all possessing the twenty-eight marks of a great man. The beings of that land purely cultivate Brahma-conduct, are all born by transformation, and take the joy of meditation as their food. That King Weide served the Tathagata for eighty-four trillion years without practicing other Dharmas. The Buddha, knowing his sincere heart, then expounded the immeasurable Dharma seals for him. What are the immeasurable Dharma seals? Huadezang Bodhisattva! In all practices, one should generate immeasurable vows. Why? Because Bodhisattva Mahasattvas have immeasurable giving, immeasurable precepts, immeasurable patience, immeasurable diligence, immeasurable meditation, immeasurable wisdom, the six perfections they practice encompass immeasurable births and deaths, immeasurable compassion for sentient beings, immeasurable adornment of pure lands, immeasurable sound, and immeasurable eloquence. Huadezang! Even a single thought of good that is in accordance with the turning of merit is immeasurable. How is the turning of merit immeasurable? For example, turning merit to all sentient beings, causing all sentient beings to attain non-birth, and to enter Nirvana with the Nirvana of the Buddha, this is called immeasurable turning of merit. Immeasurable boundless emptiness, immeasurable non-form, immeasurable non-desire, practice is like this, the reality of non-desire, the non-birth of Dharma-nature, unattached liberation, Nirvana.'

【English Translation】 English version 'Clothing, food, medicine, and bedding, among such offerings, which is the most supreme?' 'At that time, that Buddha spoke a verse for the youths:' 'One should generate the Bodhi mind (bódhicitta, the mind of enlightenment), to widely liberate all sentient beings, this is the offering to the Samyak-saṃbuddha (perfectly enlightened one), who possesses the thirty-two excellent marks (lakṣaṇa). Even if one were to offer precious and wonderful adornments filling countless Buddha lands like the sands of the Ganges, to all the Tathāgatas (the Buddhas), and joyfully accept them with reverence, it would not compare to dedicating a compassionate heart towards Bodhi (enlightenment). This merit is the most supreme, immeasurable and boundless. No other offering can surpass it, its transcendence is beyond calculation. Such a Bodhi mind will surely achieve Samyak-saṃbodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment).' 'Then, the two youths spoke another verse:' 'Gods, dragons, and spirits, listen to my lion's roar (siṃhanāda, a metaphor for the Buddha's powerful teaching), today before the Tathāgata, I make a great vow, generating the Bodhi mind. The cycle of birth and death is immeasurable kalpas (aeons), its beginning is unknowable. For the sake of one sentient being, I would practice the path for that many kalpas. How much more so, in these countless kalpas, liberating immeasurable beings, practicing the Bodhi path (bodhimārga, the path to enlightenment), how could I give rise to a weary heart? If I were to start from now, to generate a mind of greed, then I would be deceiving all the Buddhas of the ten directions. The defilements of anger and ignorance, as well as stinginess and jealousy, are the same. Now I speak the truth, and stay away from falsehood. If I were to start from now, to generate a mind of a Śrāvaka (a disciple who hears the teachings), not delighting in practicing Bodhi, then I would be deceiving the World Honored One. Nor do I seek to become a Pratyekabuddha (a solitary enlightened one), seeking only self-liberation, I shall, for countless kalpas, liberate sentient beings with great compassion. Like the Buddha land today, pure, wonderful, and adorned, when I attain the path, it will surpass it by hundreds of millions of times. In my land, there will be no Śrāvakas, nor will there be the Pratyekabuddha yāna (vehicle, referring to the path of practice), only Bodhisattvas (beings seeking enlightenment) will fill it.'

佛言:「善男子!今此西方安樂世界,當於爾時,號無量德聚安樂示現。」

Sentient beings are pure and without defilement, all possessing the most sublime bliss, Born into Right Enlightenment (referring to the Buddha's enlightenment), holding all the treasures of the Dharma. If this vow is true and not false, it should shake the great thousand worlds. Having spoken this verse, at that time, the whole world shook, Hundreds and thousands of musical instruments, played harmonious and beautiful music, Splendid and exquisite garments, swirling and descending, The gods in the sky, scattered various powdered incense, The fragrance spread everywhere, delighting the hearts of all beings.'
The Buddha said to Huadezang (a Bodhisattva's name): 'What do you think? Was the majestic king at that time someone else? It was my former self. The two boys at that time are now Avalokiteshvara (a Bodhisattva's name) and Mahasthamaprapta (a Bodhisattva's name) Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Good man! These two Bodhisattvas, under that Buddha, first aroused the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (the mind of unsurpassed, right, and complete enlightenment).'
At that time, Huadezang said to the Buddha: 'How marvelous! World Honored One! These two good men, before arousing the Bodhi mind, had already achieved such profound wisdom, understanding that all names are not to be clung to. World Honored One! Did these two righteous ones offer to and make various merits to the previous Buddhas?'
'Good man! Even the number of the sands of the Ganges River can be counted, but the various good roots that these two great beings planted by offering to the Buddhas are immeasurable. Although they had not aroused the Bodhi mind, they adorned themselves with inconceivable merits, and were the most courageous among all beings.'
At that time, Bodhisattva Huadezang said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! Where is the land of immeasurable merit and joy that is manifested?'
The Buddha said: 'Good man! This Western Land of Bliss now, at that time, was called the manifestation of immeasurable merit and joy.'
Bodhisattva Huadezang said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! I wish you would explain it for us, so that countless beings may receive great benefit. In which land will this Avalokiteshvara achieve Right and Complete Enlightenment? The adornments, light, and name of that world, the lifespan of the Sravakas and Bodhisattvas, all of it,

If the World Honored One were to speak of the vows previously made by the Bodhisattvas, then other Bodhisattvas, upon hearing these vows, would surely practice accordingly and achieve fulfillment. The Buddha said, 'Excellent! Listen carefully! I shall explain it to you.' The Bodhisattva replied, 'Yes! We are eager to hear.' The Buddha said, 'Good man! The lifespan of Amitabha Buddha (Amitabha Buddha) is immeasurable, spanning hundreds of thousands of millions of kalpas, yet it will eventually come to an end. Good man! In the distant, immeasurable kalpas to come, Amitabha Buddha will enter Parinirvana (Parinirvana). After Parinirvana, the duration of the True Dharma's presence in the world will be equal to the Buddha's lifespan. After the Dharma's extinction, the beings that have been liberated will be the same as those liberated during the Buddha's lifetime. After the Buddha's Nirvana, there may be beings who do not see the Buddha, but there will be Bodhisattvas who, through the Samadhi of Buddha Recitation (Samadhi of Buddha Recitation), will constantly see Amitabha Buddha. After the Dharma is extinguished, they will, in their own land, attain Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, and be named Supratiṣṭhita-guṇa-ratna-rāja-tathāgata, Arhat, Samyak-saṃbuddha, Vidyā-caraṇa-saṃpanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara, Puruṣa-damya-sārathi, Śāsta deva-manusyānām, Buddha, Bhagavat. Like the land of Samantaprabhāsa-guṇa-parvata-rāja-tathāgata, the light, lifespan, Bodhisattva assembly, and even the duration of the Dharma, there will be no difference. They will always see the Buddha, hear and receive the true Dharma, and make offerings to the Sangha. At that time, the sixty billion people in the assembly exclaimed in unison, 'Namo daśadig-parinirvāṇa-buddha.' They agreed with one mind and generated the aspiration for Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi. The Buddha then prophesied that they would all attain Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi in the future. Furthermore, eighty-four thousand nayutas of beings were freed from dust and defilements, and attained the pure Dharma eye in all dharmas. Seven thousand Bhikshus exhausted their outflows and understood the meaning. At that time, Avalokiteśvara and Mahāsthāmaprāpta Bodhisattva, through their spiritual powers, caused the assembly to see countless Buddhas and World Honored Ones in the ten directions, all of whom were giving them prophecies of Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi. 所福?唯愿如來分別解說。何以故?當來惡世薄德眾生,於此如來甚深經典,而不信受,以是因緣,長夜受苦難得解脫。世尊!唯愿說之,憐愍利益諸眾生故。世尊!今此會中,多有利根善男子、善女人,于當來世而作大明。」
佛言:「華德藏!善哉諦聽!當爲汝說。」
對曰:「受教!愿樂欲聞。」
佛言:「若善男子,以三千大千世界一切眾生置兩肩上,盡其形壽,隨所須欲,衣食臥具,床褥湯藥,而供養之,所得功德,寧為多不?」
「甚多!世尊!若以慈心,供一眾生隨其所須,功德無量,何況一切。」
佛言:「若善男子、善女人,於此經典,受持讀誦,解說書寫,種種供養廣宣流佈,發菩提心,所得功德,百千萬倍不可為譬。」
華德藏菩薩白佛言:「世尊!我從今日,於此如來所說經典,及過去當來三佛名號,常當受持讀誦,解說書寫,廣宣流佈,遠離貪恚癡心,發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,終不虛妄。世尊!我成佛者,若有女人聞如是法,現轉女身;轉女身已,當爲授記,得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,號曰離垢多陀阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀。」

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本: 『世尊,什麼是福德?』 唯愿如來為我們分別解說。為什麼呢?因為未來惡世中,福德淺薄的眾生,對於如來如此甚深的經典,不會信受奉行,因為這個緣故,他們將在漫長的黑夜中受苦,難以解脫。世尊!唯愿您為我們解說,爲了憐憫和利益一切眾生。世尊!現在這個法會中,有很多具有利根的善男子、善女人,他們將在未來世成為大光明。
佛說:『華德藏(菩薩名)!很好,仔細聽!我將為你們解說。』
華德藏菩薩回答說:『謹遵教誨!我們非常樂意聽聞。』
佛說:『如果一位善男子,將三千大千世界所有眾生都放在自己的雙肩上,盡其一生,隨他們的需要,提供衣食、臥具、床褥、湯藥等供養,他所獲得的功德,難道不多嗎?』
『非常多!世尊!如果以慈悲心,供養一個眾生,隨其所需,功德就已無量,何況是供養一切眾生呢。』
佛說:『如果善男子、善女人,對於這部經典,能夠受持、讀誦、解說、書寫,並以種種供養廣為流傳,發起菩提心,他們所獲得的功德,是前者的百千萬倍,無法比擬的。』
華德藏菩薩對佛說:『世尊!我從今天起,對於如來所說的這部經典,以及過去、未來三佛的名號,將常常受持、讀誦、解說、書寫,廣為流傳,遠離貪、嗔、癡之心,發起阿耨多羅三藐三菩提(無上正等正覺),永不虛妄。世尊!如果我成佛時,有女人聽到這樣的法,當下就能轉為男身;轉為男身後,我將為她授記,讓她證得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,佛號為離垢多陀阿伽度阿羅呵三藐三佛陀(如來、應供、正遍知)。』
說完這部經后,華德藏菩薩摩訶薩(大菩薩),以及諸比丘、比丘尼、菩薩、聲聞、天龍(天神和龍)、夜叉(守護神)、乾闥婆(天樂神)、阿修羅(非天神)、迦樓羅(金翅鳥神)、緊那羅(歌神)等,
【English Translation】 English version: 'World Honored One, what is the merit?' We wish that the Tathagata would explain it separately. Why is that? Because in the evil world to come, beings with shallow merit will not believe and accept these profound sutras of the Tathagata. Because of this reason, they will suffer in the long night and find it difficult to be liberated. World Honored One! We wish that you would explain it for the sake of compassion and benefit for all beings. World Honored One! In this assembly now, there are many good men and good women with sharp roots, who will become great lights in the future world.
The Buddha said, 'Flower Virtue Treasury (a Bodhisattva's name)! Excellent, listen carefully! I will explain it for you.'
Flower Virtue Treasury Bodhisattva replied, 'We accept your teachings! We are very eager to hear.'
The Buddha said, 'If a good man were to place all the beings of the three thousand great thousand worlds on his two shoulders, and for the rest of his life, provide them with all their needs, such as clothing, food, bedding, mattresses, and medicine, would the merit he obtained be great or not?'
'Very great! World Honored One! If one were to offer with a compassionate heart to just one being according to their needs, the merit would be immeasurable, how much more so for offering to all beings?'
The Buddha said, 'If good men and good women, with regard to this sutra, can receive, uphold, recite, explain, write, and make various offerings to widely propagate it, and generate the Bodhi mind, the merit they obtain is a hundred million times greater and cannot be compared.'
Flower Virtue Treasury Bodhisattva said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! From today onwards, with regard to this sutra spoken by the Tathagata, and the names of the three Buddhas of the past and future, I will always receive, uphold, recite, explain, write, and widely propagate them, staying away from greed, hatred, and delusion, and generate Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment), never being false. World Honored One! If I become a Buddha, if there is a woman who hears this Dharma, she will immediately transform into a male body; after transforming into a male body, I will give her a prediction that she will attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and her Buddha name will be Immaculate Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha (Tathagata, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened).'
After speaking this sutra, Flower Virtue Treasury Bodhisattva Mahasattva (great Bodhisattva), and all the Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis, Bodhisattvas, Sravakas, Devas (gods), Nagas (dragons), Yakshas (guardian spirits), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Asuras (demigods), Garudas (mythical birds), Kinnaras (celestial musicians), etc.,
摩睺羅伽、人非人等,聞佛所說,皆大歡喜。

【English Translation】 English version Mahoragas (a type of serpent deity), beings both human and non-human, upon hearing what the Buddha had spoken, were all greatly delighted.
The Sutra of the Prediction of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva
