如是我聞:
一時,世尊在波羅奈國仙人墮處鹿野園中,與大苾芻眾二萬人俱;菩薩摩訶薩一萬二千,其名曰:師子菩薩摩訶薩、師子意菩薩摩訶薩、善住意菩薩摩訶薩、勝思惟菩薩摩訶薩、持世菩薩摩訶薩、人授菩薩摩訶薩、水天菩薩摩訶薩、寶積菩薩摩訶薩、隱密菩薩摩訶薩、賢護菩薩摩訶薩、電天菩薩摩訶薩、遍照菩薩摩訶薩、智積菩薩摩訶薩、不休息菩薩摩訶薩、不空見菩薩摩訶薩、慈氏菩薩摩訶薩、妙吉祥童真菩薩摩訶薩等;復有二萬天子,所謂善道天子、安意天子等,是諸天子,皆悉安住大乘法中,並余無數百千大眾,咸悉恭敬圍繞世尊,聽受說法。
爾時會中有一菩薩摩訶薩名勝華藏,從座而起,偏袒右肩右膝著地,合掌頂禮前白佛言:「世尊!我有所問,惟愿如來、應供、正等正覺,哀愍聽許,略為宣說。」
佛言:「勝華藏!如來、應供、正等正覺,隨有問者,即為開曉。今恣汝問,當爲汝說。」

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the World Honored One was in the Deer Park at the place of the fallen ascetics in the country of Varanasi (ancient Indian city), together with 20,000 great Bhikshus (Buddhist monks); and 12,000 Bodhisattva Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas), whose names were: Simha Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Lion Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Simhamati Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Lion Mind Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Subhuti Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Well-Dwelling Mind Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Uttamamati Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Supreme Thought Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Dharanimdhara Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Earth Holder Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Manudatta Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Manudatta Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Varunadeva Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Water God Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Ratnakara Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Treasure Accumulation Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Guhyaka Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Secret Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Bhadrapala Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Virtuous Protector Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Vidyuddeva Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Lightning God Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Samantaprabha Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Universal Light Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Jnanakara Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Wisdom Accumulation Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Anavarata Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Unceasing Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Amoghadarshana Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Infallible Vision Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Maitreya Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Maitreya Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), Manjushri Kumara Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Manjushri Youth Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva), and others; there were also 20,000 Devas (gods), such as the Deva of Good Path, the Deva of Peaceful Mind, and so on. At that time, in the assembly, there was a Bodhisattva Mahasattva named Shrestha-Pushpa-Garbha (Superior Flower Treasury), who rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and with palms joined, bowed to the Buddha and said: 'World Honored One! I have some questions to ask. I beseech the Tathagata (Thus Come One), Arhat (Worthy One), Samyak-sambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), to compassionately allow me and briefly explain them.' The Buddha said: 'Shrestha-Pushpa-Garbha! The Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, will enlighten and explain to anyone who asks. Now you may ask freely, and I will answer you.' Then, Shrestha-Pushpa-Garbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva said to the Buddha:
言:「世尊!菩薩摩訶薩云何得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,成就五神通,得如幻三摩地?得是三摩地已,諸有眾生善根成熟,即以自神力如應現化,隨諸眾生所起信解,即為說法,而令速證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」
佛告勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩言:「善哉善哉!勝華藏!汝今善問如是等義。汝於過去,已曾親近俱胝那庾多百千諸佛,于諸佛所深種善根,而復能為一切眾生起悲愍心。汝應善聽,極善作意,今為汝說。」於是勝華藏菩薩受教而聽。
佛言:「勝華藏!當知有一法,若菩薩摩訶薩能具足者,即得如幻三摩地。得是三摩地已,諸有眾生善根成熟,即以自神力如應現化,隨諸眾生所起信解,即為說法,而令速證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。勝華藏!所言一法者,謂無依止法。若菩薩摩訶薩成就此法已,乃至遍三界中不作依止想,若內若外悉無依止,由如是故,即具正見;以正見故,得正相應及正所行,是故獲得無障礙慧;慧無礙故,心亦無礙,于無礙心中即起正行。勝華藏!云何菩薩能起正行?謂了一切法悉從緣生,于緣生法中無有少法而實積聚。何以故?以彼諸緣皆不實故,是中雲何有法可生?若法緣生,即是無生,是故一切法皆悉無生。菩薩若能如實了知一切法無生,即得成就諸菩薩道。所有一切眾

【English Translation】 English version: Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva said, 'World Honored One! How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva attain non-retrogression from Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment), achieve the five supernormal powers, and obtain the Samadhi of Illusion (a meditative state like a dream)? Having obtained this Samadhi, if the good roots of sentient beings are mature, they can use their own divine power to manifest appropriate transformations according to the faith and understanding of sentient beings, and preach the Dharma to them, enabling them to quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' The Buddha said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Superior Flower Treasury, 'Excellent, excellent! Superior Flower Treasury! You have asked well about these meanings. In the past, you have been close to countless Buddhas, planted deep good roots with them, and are able to generate compassion for all sentient beings. You should listen well and pay close attention, and I will now explain it to you.' Thereupon, the Bodhisattva Superior Flower Treasury received the teaching and listened attentively. The Buddha said, 'Superior Flower Treasury! You should know that there is one Dharma, which if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva can fully possess, they will obtain the Samadhi of Illusion. Having obtained this Samadhi, if the good roots of sentient beings are mature, they can use their own divine power to manifest appropriate transformations according to the faith and understanding of sentient beings, and preach the Dharma to them, enabling them to quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. Superior Flower Treasury! The one Dharma is the Dharma of Non-reliance. If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva achieves this Dharma, they will not cling to anything, even throughout the three realms (desire realm, form realm, formless realm), whether internal or external, they will have no reliance. Because of this, they will obtain right view; with right view, they will obtain right correspondence and right conduct, and therefore obtain unobstructed wisdom; with unobstructed wisdom, the mind is also unobstructed, and in the unobstructed mind, right conduct arises. Superior Flower Treasury! How does a Bodhisattva generate right conduct? It is by understanding that all dharmas arise from conditions, and in dharmas arising from conditions, there is not a single entity that can be accumulated. Why is this? Because those conditions are not real, so how can any dharma arise from them? If a dharma arises from conditions, it is non-arising, therefore all dharmas are non-arising. If a Bodhisattva can truly understand that all dharmas are non-arising, they will achieve the Bodhisattva path. All merits will follow.'
生根欲及事,能以悲心而悉隨入;得深信解,了知一切法悉如幻化,乃至分別一切法,皆是化事,以彼分別畢竟空故,而一切法亦復皆空。如是知已,即得如幻三摩地。得是三摩地已,乃至能令眾生速證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」
勝華藏菩薩復白佛言:「世尊!今此會中,有幾許菩薩摩訶薩,得是如幻三摩地?」
佛言:「勝華藏!今此會中,有慈氏菩薩、妙吉祥童真菩薩等六十大士,皆已被于不思議鎧,得是如幻三摩地法門。」
勝華藏言:「余世界中,亦有菩薩大士得是三摩地耶?」
佛言:「勝華藏!西方過此百千俱胝佛剎,有世界名極樂,有佛號無量光如來、應供、正等正覺,現住說法,教化眾生。彼佛剎中,有菩薩名觀自在,復有菩薩名大勢至,彼二菩薩得是三摩地,於七夜中為余菩薩說是法門,諸菩薩聞已,亦得是三摩地。」
勝華藏菩薩復白佛言:「世尊!彼佛剎中所有菩薩得如幻三摩地者,應多於此。何以故?此佛剎中諸菩薩等,于慈氏菩薩、妙吉祥童真菩薩所,不能專勤請問聽受如是法門,是故少有得此三摩地者。」
佛言:「勝華藏!如是如是,如汝所說。彼佛剎中所有菩薩,安住如幻三摩地者,無量無數不可稱計。」
爾時勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩復白

【English Translation】 English version For matters that beings desire, they can enter completely in accordance with them with a compassionate heart; having obtained deep faith and understanding, they know that all dharmas are like illusions, and even the differentiation of all dharmas are merely illusory phenomena, because these differentiations are ultimately empty, and all dharmas are also empty. Having understood in this way, one obtains the Illusory Samadhi (Samadhi, meditative absorption). Having obtained this samadhi, one can even enable beings to quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unsurpassed perfect enlightenment). Bodhisattva Shèng Huá Zàng (Victorious Flower Treasury) then said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! In this assembly, how many Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas) have attained this Illusory Samadhi?' The Buddha said: 'Shèng Huá Zàng! In this assembly, there are sixty great beings such as Bodhisattva Maitreya, Bodhisattva Manjushri Kumara, etc., who have already donned the inconceivable armor and attained this Illusory Samadhi Dharma gate.' Shèng Huá Zàng said: 'In other worlds, are there also great Bodhisattvas who have attained this samadhi?' The Buddha said: 'Shèng Huá Zàng! Passing through hundreds of thousands of kotis (ten million) of Buddha-lands to the west, there is a world named Sukhavati (Pure Land), where there is a Buddha named Amitabha Tathagata (Infinite Light Thus Come One), Arhat (Worthy One), Samyak-sambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), who is now teaching the Dharma and guiding beings. In that Buddha-land, there is a Bodhisattva named Avalokiteshvara (Perceiver of the World's Sounds), and another Bodhisattva named Mahasthamaprapta (Great Strength Arrived), these two Bodhisattvas have attained this samadhi, and for seven nights they have been expounding this Dharma gate to other Bodhisattvas, and those Bodhisattvas, having heard it, have also attained this samadhi.' Bodhisattva Shèng Huá Zàng again said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! The Bodhisattvas in that Buddha-land who have attained the Illusory Samadhi should be more numerous than here. Why is that? Because the Bodhisattvas in this Buddha-land are not able to diligently and earnestly ask and listen to such a Dharma gate from Bodhisattva Maitreya and Bodhisattva Manjushri Kumara, therefore, few have attained this samadhi.' The Buddha said: 'Shèng Huá Zàng! It is so, it is so, just as you have said. The Bodhisattvas in that Buddha-land who abide in the Illusory Samadhi are immeasurable, countless, and beyond reckoning.' At that time, Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Shèng Huá Zàng again said to the Buddha
佛言:「世尊!惟愿如來、應供、正等正覺,如其所應現神通相,使彼佛剎二大士等,來此娑婆世界。復令此會大眾得見極樂世界,瞻睹無量光如來、應供、正等正覺。所以者何?此佛剎中諸善男子善女人,若得見彼無量光如來,即能發起阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,各各愿生於彼佛剎,普得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。又若彼二大士來此剎中,所有此土修菩薩乘諸善男子善女人善根增長,或復于彼二大士所聞說法已,即令獲得如幻三摩地。」
爾時世尊受勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩請已,即從眉間放大光明,其光金色,於此三千大千世界普遍照耀,其中所有須彌山、目真鄰陀山、摩訶目真鄰陀山、雪山、輪圍山、大輪圍山等,乃至極余世界邊際,一切山石叢林暗暝等處,此金色光而悉照破。世間所有日月光明廣大熾盛,以佛光明所映蔽故,猶如眼光其量微小。是時光明金色晃耀,照徹西方百千俱胝佛剎,乃至極樂世界無量光如來所,其光旋環繞佛七匝,普照耀已,于彼佛前隱而不現。是時極樂世界所有菩薩、聲聞及餘眾生之類,乘前光明,悉能見此娑婆世界,及見釋迦牟尼如來,菩薩聲聞大眾圍繞,如觀掌中庵摩勒果,皆生歡喜愛樂之心,咸作是言:「南無世尊釋迦牟尼如來、應供、正等正覺!」
時此娑婆世界

【English Translation】 English version: The Buddha said, 'World Honored One! I beseech the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha (one of the ten epithets of a Buddha, meaning worthy of offerings, having attained true and equal enlightenment), to manifest supernatural powers as is appropriate, so that the two great Bodhisattvas from the Land of Bliss may come to this Saha world. Furthermore, may the assembly here be able to see the Land of Bliss, and behold the Immeasurable Light Tathagata (another name for Amitabha Buddha), Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha. Why is this so? Because if the virtuous men and women in this Buddha-land can see that Immeasurable Light Tathagata, they will be able to arouse the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (the mind of unsurpassed, true, and equal enlightenment), each vowing to be reborn in that Buddha-land, universally attaining non-retrogression in Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. Moreover, if those two great Bodhisattvas come to this land, all the virtuous men and women in this land who cultivate the Bodhisattva path will have their roots of goodness increased, or upon hearing the Dharma preached by those two great Bodhisattvas, they will immediately attain the Illusory Samadhi (a state of meditative concentration that is like a dream or illusion).' At that time, after the World Honored One received the request of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva (great Bodhisattva) Supreme Flower Treasury, he emitted a great light from between his eyebrows. The light was golden, and it universally illuminated this three-thousand-great-thousand world. All the Mount Sumeru (the central mountain in Buddhist cosmology), Mount Mucilinda, Mount Mahamucilinda, the Snow Mountains, Mount Cakravada, Mount Mahacakravada, and even the edges of other worlds, all the dark places of mountains, rocks, and forests, were illuminated by this golden light. All the light of the sun and moon in the world, though vast and blazing, was obscured by the Buddha's light, becoming as small as the light of the eye. At that time, the golden light shone brightly, illuminating hundreds of thousands of kotis of Buddha-lands in the west, reaching even to where the Immeasurable Light Tathagata was in the Land of Bliss. The light circled the Buddha seven times, and after universally illuminating, it disappeared before the Buddha. At that time, all the Bodhisattvas, Sravakas, and other beings in the Land of Bliss, by means of the previous light, were able to see this Saha world, and see Shakyamuni Tathagata, surrounded by the assembly of Bodhisattvas and Sravakas, as clearly as looking at an Amalaka fruit (a type of fruit) in the palm of their hand. He abandons other pure and adorned Buddha lands, and delights in this defiled land of the Saha world (the world we inhabit), using his great compassionate vows to teach sentient beings. Those beings mostly generate inferior faith and understanding, vigorously giving rise to various karmas and afflictions such as greed, anger, and ignorance. The various adornments did not interfere with each other, just as a strong man might stretch and bend his arm, they arrived in this Saha world (the world we inhabit). And these Bodhisattvas, through their spiritual powers, each manifested eighty-four kotis (a unit of large number) of meritorious and adorned wonderful pavilions, placing them in the Buddha's assembly. According to their respective spiritual powers, they made the ground of this Saha world as flat as the palm of a hand, and yet the Buddha's assembly did not feel crowded. These pavilions emitted great light, illuminating this three thousand great thousand world (a world in Buddhist cosmology). At this time, the two Bodhisattvas approached the Buddha, bowed their heads to his feet, circumambulated him three times to the right, and then stood to one side. These two great beings have already accumulated pure and immaculate roots of goodness over countless kalpas (eons). Moreover, they have attained the Dharma gate of the Illusory Samadhi (a state of meditative absorption), and from this Samadhi, they can manifest various forms, miraculous powers, and other such things. And he saw countless vast pavilions adorned with wondrous treasures. Then, Śrīghana Bodhisattva, having seen these sights, again said to the Buddha: 'It is rare, World Honored One! 佛言勝華藏:「乃往過去阿僧祇阿僧祇劫前,又經廣大無量無邊不可思議劫數,過是劫已,將此三千大千世界碎為微塵,一塵一劫,過是微塵劫數之前,時有世界,名無量功德寶莊嚴普現妙樂,有佛出世,號師子游戲金光王如來、應供、正等正覺、明行足、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈夫、天人師、佛、世尊。彼佛剎中,所有功德莊嚴等事,廣大無量。勝華藏!于汝意云何?彼無量光如來、應供、正等正覺,極樂世界中所有功德莊嚴,是為多不?」
勝華藏言:「甚多。世尊!無量無邊不可思議。」
佛言勝華藏:「我以譬喻略明斯義。譬如有人,取彼一毛析為百分,將其一分于大海中取一滴水。勝華藏!于汝意云何?彼毛端水是為多邪?余大海水而為多邪?」
勝華藏白佛言:

At that time, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva (great Bodhisattva) Superior Flower Treasury again said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! These two great beings, under which Buddha did they generate the aspiration for Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi? Was their aspiration generated long ago or recently? What is the name of that Tathagata? We beseech the World Honored One to explain this in detail, so that other Bodhisattvas may understand what they have cultivated, and what they have practiced, so that ultimately they may all fulfill their practices and vows.' The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Superior Flower Treasury: 'You should listen carefully, and pay close attention, I will now explain it to you.' At that time, the Bodhisattva Superior Flower Treasury received the teaching and listened attentively. The Buddha said to Superior Flower Treasury: 'In the past, countless Asamkhya (innumerable) kalpas ago, and after passing through vast, immeasurable, and inconceivable kalpas, after these kalpas had passed, this three-thousand great thousand world was crushed into fine dust, each dust representing a kalpa. Before these dust-kalpas had passed, there was a world named Immeasurable Merit Treasure Adornment Universally Manifesting Wonderful Joy, where a Buddha appeared in the world, named Lion Game Golden Light King Tathagata (Thus Come One), Arhat (Worthy of Offerings), Samyak-sambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), Vidyā-carana-sampanna (Perfect in Knowledge and Conduct), Sugata (Well-Gone One), Lokavid (Knower of the World), Anuttara (Unsurpassed One), Purusa-damya-sarathi (Tamer of Men), Sasta deva-manusyanam (Teacher of Gods and Humans), Buddha (Enlightened One), Bhagavan (World Honored One). In that Buddha's land, all the merits and adornments were vast and immeasurable. Superior Flower Treasury! What do you think? The immeasurable light Tathagata (One of Immeasurable Light), Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, all the merits and adornments in the Land of Ultimate Bliss, are they many or not?' Superior Flower Treasury said: 'Very many. World Honored One! Immeasurable, boundless, and inconceivable.' The Buddha said to Superior Flower Treasury: 'I will use a metaphor to briefly explain this principle. For example, if someone were to take a single hair, divide it into one hundred parts, and then take one of those parts and take a drop of water from the great ocean. Superior Flower Treasury! What do you think? Is the water on the tip of that hair more, or is the rest of the ocean water more?' Superior Flower Treasury said to the Buddha:
「世尊!毛端之水極為微少,余大海水深廣無量。」

The Buddha said to Shèng Huá Zàng: 『You should know that the Land of Ultimate Bliss of Amitabha Buddha, all its meritorious adornments, are like the water on the tip of a hair; while the Immeasurable Meritorious Adornment Manifesting Wonderful Joy Land of Simhavikridita-kanakavarna Buddha, all its meritorious adornments, are like the water of the great ocean. Moreover, the assembly of Bodhisattvas and Śrāvakas in the presence of Simhavikridita-kanakavarna Buddha is hundreds of thousands of times greater than the assembly of Bodhisattvas and Śrāvakas in the presence of Amitabha Buddha. In the Dharma of Simhavikridita-kanakavarna Buddha, there is a king named Shèng Wēi, who is sovereign and honored in a thousand worlds, vast and wealthy, and who governs the world with the righteous Dharma. He possesses seventy-six thousand supreme gardens for his enjoyment; each of his sons also has ten thousand gardens for their enjoyment.』
Bodhisattva Shèng Huá Zàng asked the Buddha: 『World Honored One! Are there women in that Buddha-land?』
The Buddha said: 『No. Good man! In that Buddha-land, even the name of a woman cannot be heard, let alone the presence of women. Those who are born there are all born by transformation, pure and white, all practicing pure conduct. All beings there take the joy of Dharma and meditation as their food, and do not accept any coarse or impure food. Shèng Huá Zàng! That king and his sons, for eighty-four thousand kotis of years, respectfully made offerings to Simhavikridita-kanakavarna Buddha. That World Honored One, knowing that the king had generated pure faith in his heart, then expounded to them the Dharma of the Immeasurable Seal Skillful Means. Shèng Huá Zàng! What is called the Dharma of the Immeasurable Seal Skillful Means? It refers to all the practices initiated by Bodhisattva Mahāsattvas, who never seek anything in any dharma. Why is that? 菩薩行無量佈施、無量持戒、無量忍辱、無量精進、無量禪定、無量智慧,于無量生死中隨入,于無量眾生中慈愍,無量剎土莊嚴,無量聲聞莊嚴,無量色相成就,具足無量音聲及無量辯才。
「勝華藏!諸菩薩乃至一發心所有善根,尚起無量廣大之心迴向一切,況復積集無量行愿,普用迴向一切眾生,使諸眾生悉證無生,如佛涅槃而得涅槃。善男子!此即名為無量回向。以是迴向故,即空、無相、無愿而悉無量,真如、實際、法界亦復無量,解脫、無生、離諸繫著。善男子!以要言之,無量義者,即一切法無量。何故說一切法為無量邪?以一切法無生無滅故無量,若法無量即無生無滅,若法無生無滅即無量,是名無量印法門。
「勝華藏!爾時彼師子游戲金光王如來,為彼勝威王,如是宣說無量印善巧法門時,其王於一切法而得覺了。
「複次勝華藏!彼勝威王于佛法中修禪定行,後於一時安處禪定。其王忽然左右二脅,生二蓮華殊妙可愛,清凈猶如龍實栴檀香,于其華中生二童子,跏趺而坐。其王見已嘆未曾有,即向童子說伽陀曰:

Even the roots of virtue from a single thought of aspiration of the Bodhisattvas are directed towards all with immeasurable and vast minds. How much more so when they accumulate immeasurable practices and vows, universally dedicating them to all beings, enabling all beings to realize non-arising (anutpāda), and attain nirvāṇa (liberation) just as the Buddha attained nirvāṇa. 「『我今當以何等物, 供養正覺二足尊? 此事愿佛開我心, 令我聞已心安定。 我今無華亦無香, 復無飲食及衣服, 諸妙供養悉皆無, 將何供養最勝者?』

【English Translation】 English version In the emptiness of Dharma, you now ask me what my name is, Yet, all dharmas originally have no name, why do you inquire with a name? In the emptiness of Dharma, there are no Devas (gods) or Nagas (dragons), nor Yakshas (a type of guardian spirit) or Rakshasas (demons), Neither humans nor non-humans, nor immortals, all of them do not exist.
Then, the boy born from the left side also spoke a gatha (verse) to answer the king:
'Both the name and the entity named are empty, neither the namer nor the named exist, In the absence of names for all dharmas, names are merely used to indicate them. One should know the true nature of a name, in which there is neither seeing nor hearing, Originally there is neither arising nor ceasing, why do you inquire with a name? All actions and all names, since they are indicated by provisional names, Therefore, I now also use provisional names, one is called Bao Yan (Jewel Adornment) and the other Bao Shang (Jewel Above).'
After these two boys spoke the gatha, due to the power of their past good deeds, they obtained the five supernormal powers, and together with King Sheng Wei, they went to where the Tathagata (Buddha) Lion Game Golden Light King was. Upon arriving, they each bowed their heads to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated the Buddha three times to the right, and then retreated to stand on one side. 'What should we use now to make offerings to the Rightly Enlightened Two-Footed Honored One (a title for the Buddha)? We wish that the Buddha would open our minds, so that after hearing, our hearts may be at peace. We have no flowers, no incense, no food or clothing, All kinds of wonderful offerings are absent, what shall we use to make offerings to the most supreme one?'
At that time, the Buddha spoke a gatha for the two boys:
'If one can generate a Bodhi mind (mind of enlightenment), and widely bring benefit and joy to sentient beings, This can be called a true offering, an offering to the Buddha with the thirty-two marks (of a Buddha). If someone were to use as many Buddha lands as there are sands in the Ganges River, Filled with the most supreme and wonderful flowers, to make offerings to the World Honored One (a title for the Buddha), the savior of the world,

If a person can generate the Bodhi mind, I say that this person is one of the highest wisdom.'

'The Able One (a title for Shakyamuni Buddha) roars like a lion, and all the gods and humans universally hear it, We now, in front of the World Honored One, each make our sincere and supreme vows: 'We, even into the endless future, vow that our practices will span countless kalpas, Even if we follow the cycle of birth and death, we will save countless sentient beings. We now, with this cause, will contemplate throughout the endless future, Universally for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, we will practice without懈怠(xie dai, laziness) in countless kalpas. We now generate the Bodhi mind, and do not delight in the fruits of Sravaka (a disciple who hears the Buddha's teachings and practices) and Pratyekabuddha (one who achieves enlightenment on their own), If we have a mind that clings to the small vehicle, we will surely receive the retribution of false speech. We do not delight in the fruits of the two vehicles (Sravaka and Pratyekabuddha), but only with compassion for sentient beings, Even if we go through countless kalpas, we vow to practice constantly without懈怠(xie dai, laziness). Just as the World Honored Buddha has accomplished, just as the Buddha-ksetra (Buddha's land) should be vast and adorned, May I, when I become a Buddha in the future,'
, 剎土倍多俱胝數。 又愿當來佛剎中, 無有聲聞緣覺眾, 純一菩薩所莊嚴, 廣集無量諸智聚。 愿我得是莊嚴已, 當令眾生得離垢, 從諸佛法所出生, 普使當持佛法藏。 若我今時諸所說, 真實無妄無別異, 愿此大海及山川, 乃至大地皆震動。」 當發如是愿言時, 大地即時皆震動, 不鼓音樂自然鳴, 出微妙音遍十方, 天雨眾華眾妙香, 殊麗嚴好極可愛, 俱胝百千妙天衣, 周遍繽紛而散佈。』
「爾時彼二童子,各發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。勝華藏!于汝意云何?彼時勝威王者豈異人乎?即今無量光如來、應供、正等正覺是。彼時寶嚴童子者,今觀自在菩薩摩訶薩是。寶上童子者,今大勢至菩薩摩訶薩是。是二菩薩,于彼師子游戲金光王如來所,首發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。」
複次勝華藏菩薩前白佛言:「世尊!此二大士甚為希有,如是名字難可得聞,而復具足甚深信解,所發菩提心無與等比。世尊!此二大士于師子游戲金光王如來之後,又復供養幾許諸佛?」
佛言:「善男子!所有殑伽河沙尚可知其邊際數量,此二大士于彼佛后其所供養諸佛如來,我亦不能知其邊際。何以故?此二

勝華藏菩薩再次向佛稟告說:『世尊!這兩位大士真是非常稀有,這樣的名字難以聽聞,而且還具足甚深的信解,所發起的菩提心無與倫比。世尊!這兩位大士在師子游戲金光王如來之後,又供養了多少諸佛呢?』
佛說:『善男子!所有恒河沙的數量尚且可以知道其邊際,這兩位大士在那位佛之後所供養的諸佛如來,我也無法知道其邊際。為什麼呢?這兩位大士所發起的菩提心,已經超越了所有世間和出世間的數量。』
【English Translation】 English version 'The number of Buddha lands is countless, reaching billions of kotis. And may it be that in my future Buddha land, there are no Sravakas (those who attain enlightenment by hearing the Dharma) or Pratyekabuddhas (those who attain enlightenment through their own practice), But only Bodhisattvas, who are pure and adorned, widely gathering immeasurable wisdom. May I, having attained such adornment, enable all beings to be free from defilement, Born from the teachings of all Buddhas, universally enabling them to hold the treasury of the Buddha's Dharma. If all that I have spoken today is true, without falsehood or difference, May this great ocean and mountains, and even the entire earth, shake.' 'At that time, those two youths each generated the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (the mind of unsurpassed, complete, and perfect enlightenment). O Suvarnagarbha (name of a Bodhisattva)! What do you think? Was the King of Great Majesty at that time someone else? He is now the Tathagata Amitabha (name of a Buddha), the Arhat (worthy of offerings), the Samyak-sambuddha (perfectly enlightened one). The youth Ratnavyuha at that time is now the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Avalokitesvara (great Bodhisattva). The youth Ratnottama is now the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahasthamaprapta. These two Bodhisattvas, at the place of the Tathagata Simhavikridita-kanakavarna (name of a Buddha), first generated the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.'
Again, Suvarnagarbha Bodhisattva addressed the Buddha, saying: 'World Honored One! These two great beings are truly rare, such names are difficult to hear, and they also possess profound faith and understanding, and the Bodhi mind they have generated is unparalleled. World Honored One! After the Tathagata Simhavikridita-kanakavarna, how many Buddhas did these two great beings further make offerings to?'
The Buddha said: 'Good man! The number of sands in all the Ganges rivers can still be known to have a limit, but the number of Buddhas and Tathagatas that these two great beings made offerings to after that Buddha, I cannot know its limit. Why? The Bodhi mind generated by these two great beings has surpassed all worldly and transcendental numbers.'
大士悉已被于不思議鎧,具足無量殊勝功德,是故不能知其邊際。」
爾時勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩復白佛言:「世尊!彼無量功德寶莊嚴普現妙樂世界,在何方處?」
佛言:「善男子!今此西方極樂世界,即是彼往昔時無量功德寶莊嚴普現妙樂世界。」
勝華藏言:「此二大士,當於何時成就阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果?當得何等佛剎功德莊嚴?而佛壽量其數幾何?復有幾許菩薩之眾?惟愿如來、應供、正等正覺,廣為悲愍利樂一切世間天人,宣說此二大士當成佛事,令余菩薩聞已悉得大愿圓滿。」
佛言:「勝華藏!汝應善聽,極善作意,今為汝說。」是時勝華藏菩薩受教而聽。
佛言:「善男子!當知西方無量光如來,壽命無量,極不可計,假使俱胝那庾多百千劫中,亦復不能說其邊際。其佛正法住世,八萬四千那庾多劫,佛涅槃后,以諸眾生善根力故,亦得值遇余佛出世,而諸菩薩安住唸佛三昧,常得見佛中無間缺。善男子!又復無量光如來涅槃之後,其說法處七寶莊嚴妙蓮華樹,自然演出微妙法音,經於一夜至明旦時,觀自在菩薩摩訶薩,即于眾寶莊嚴菩提樹下,安處其座成等正覺。成正覺已,號曰普明高顯吉祥峰王如來、應供、正等正覺、明行足、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈

Where is that world of immeasurable meritorious adornments, the wondrously manifested joy world?』 The Buddha said: 『Good man! This Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is the very same world of immeasurable meritorious adornments, the wondrously manifested joy world, from their past.』 Sheng Huazang said: 『When will these two great beings achieve the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment)? What kind of Buddha-land meritorious adornments will they obtain? And how long will the Buddha's lifespan be? How many Bodhisattvas will there be in their assembly? You should know that the Western Amitabha Tathagata (Immeasurable Light Buddha), has an immeasurable lifespan, which is extremely uncountable. Even if one were to count for kotis (ten million) of nayutas (hundred million) of hundreds of thousands of kalpas (eons), one could not describe its limits. His Dharma will abide in the world for eighty-four thousand nayutas of kalpas. After the Buddha's Nirvana, due to the power of sentient beings' good roots, they will also encounter other Buddhas appearing in the world. And those Bodhisattvas who abide in the Samadhi of Buddha-Recollection will always be able to see the Buddha without interruption. Good man! Furthermore, after the Nirvana of Amitabha Tathagata, the place where he taught the Dharma, the wondrous lotus trees adorned with seven treasures, will naturally emit subtle Dharma sounds. 佛言:「不也。善男子!彼世界名眾寶普嚴。彼佛如來隨其所應作諸利樂,而此大勢至菩薩摩訶薩于彼法中,隨佛壽量住世久近,承事供養,乃至彼佛入涅槃后,奉持佛法令法久住,至於最後法欲滅時,大勢至菩薩于其剎中,得成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果。成正覺已,號曰善住功德寶峰王如來、應供、正等正覺、明行足、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈夫、天人師、佛、世尊。其佛剎中所有功德莊嚴等事,菩薩大眾皆悉具足,其佛壽命及正法住世,與普明高顯吉祥峰王如來皆悉同等,一切圓滿不增不減。」

If the merits and adornments of such a Buddha-land were compared to the merits and adornments of the Lion's Play Golden Light King Tathagata's (another Buddha) land, the former would not equal one part in a hundred, not one in a thousand, not one in a hundred thousand, not one in a numerical part, not one in a metaphorical part, and not even one in an Upanishad part (an extremely small unit). Moreover, in that land, there are no names of Sravakas (those who practice by hearing the Dharma) or Pratyekabuddhas (those who attain enlightenment on their own), only a pure assembly of great Bodhisattvas. Furthermore, O good man! If all the Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas in the assembly of Immeasurable Light Tathagata were gathered and compared, the assembly of Bodhisattvas in the assembly of Universal Brightness High Manifestation Auspicious Peak King Tathagata would be many times greater. 爾時世尊作是說時,會中有九十六俱胝天人,異口同音作如是言:「南無十方三世一切諸佛,及未來世普明高顯吉祥峰王如來、善住功德寶峰王如來,普集一切諸佛一切善利,我皆隨喜,我等悉發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。」

Then, all the Buddhas gave them predictions, saying, 'You will all attain non-retrogression on the path to Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' At that time, there were seven thousand Bodhisattvas in the assembly who attained the forbearance of non-origination, eighty-four nayutas of beings who were freed from dust and defilement and attained the pure Dharma eye, and eight thousand Bhikshus who were free from all outflows and attained liberation of mind. At that time, Bodhisattva Mahasattva Guanzizai (Avalokiteshvara) and Bodhisattva Mahasattva Dashizhi (Mahasthamaprapta), in this assembly, manifested various forms and supernatural powers according to their abilities, so that all in the assembly could see them. Then, the countless Asankhyeya Buddhas of the ten directions, having seen these signs and heard the proclamation that these two Bodhisattvas would achieve Buddhahood, all praised together, saying, 'Rare indeed is the World Honored One, Tathagata Shakyamuni, who is able to protect and care for these two Bodhisattvas. We also rejoice in this.'
等諸佛亦共稱讚。」
複次勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩白佛言:「世尊!佛所宣說如是甚深微妙經典,若善男子善女人,有能受持讀誦為他廣說者,得幾所福?」
佛言:「止止。善男子!勿致斯問。何以故?諸有劣信解者,于佛所說如是深經不能生信,故我不說。」
勝華藏菩薩白佛言:「世尊!今此會中亦有廣大具深信解諸善男子善女人等,惟愿如來略為宣說受持功德,與后末世一切眾生作大明照。」
佛言勝華藏:「諦聽諦聽!今為汝說。」時勝華藏菩薩受教而聽。
佛言:「善男子!假使有人,有大勢力,福德具足,悉能了知眾生界分,作如是言:『如佛所說世界無邊眾生無盡,我能于彼一切眾生頂肩荷負,經無量無邊俱胝劫數,復能以其飲食衣服一切樂具,周遍供給一切眾生。』勝華藏!于汝意云何,此人以是因緣得福多不?」
勝華藏白佛言:「甚多世尊!若有人經一彈指間,於一眾生起慈心者得福尚多,況如是邪?」
佛言:「勝華藏!我今實言告汝,若有善男子善女人於此深經自能生信、勸令他信者,其所得福倍多於彼。又若有人於此深經能受持讀誦為他廣說者,當知是人,以菩提心而為依止。」
爾時勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩白佛言:「世尊!如來所說如是深

佛說:『停止,停止。善男子!不要問這個問題。為什麼呢?因為那些信心和理解力低下的人,對於佛所說的如此深奧的經典不能產生信心,所以我才不說。』
勝華藏菩薩對佛說:『世尊!現在這個法會中也有許多具有深厚信心和理解力的善男子善女人等,只希望如來能夠簡略地宣說受持此經典的功德,為後世末法時代的一切眾生作大光明照耀。』
佛對勝華藏說:『仔細聽,仔細聽!我現在為你解說。』當時,勝華藏菩薩接受教誨,專心聽講。
佛說:『善男子!假設有人,具有強大的勢力,福德圓滿,完全能夠了解眾生的界限,並說:『如佛所說,世界無邊,眾生無盡,我能夠將所有這些眾生都頂在頭上或肩上揹負,經歷無量無邊的俱胝(koti,千萬)劫數,並且還能用飲食、衣服和一切快樂的用具,周遍地供給所有眾生。』勝華藏!你認為如何,這個人因為這個因緣得到的福德多不多呢?』
勝華藏對佛說:『非常多,世尊!如果有人在一彈指間,對一個眾生生起慈悲心,所得到的福德尚且很多,何況是像這樣呢?』
佛說:『勝華藏!我現在真實地告訴你,如果有善男子善女人,對於這部深奧的經典,自己能夠生起信心,並且勸導他人也生起信心,他們所得到的福德比那個人還要多很多倍。而且,如果有人能夠受持、讀誦這部深奧的經典,併爲他人廣泛宣說,應當知道這個人是以菩提心(bodhicitta,覺悟之心)作為依靠。』
這時,勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩對佛說:『世尊!如來所說的如此深奧的經典,'
【English Translation】 English version: All Buddhas also jointly praise it.』
Then, Mahasattva (great being) Superior Flower Treasury Bodhisattva said to the Buddha, 『World Honored One! If a virtuous man or virtuous woman can receive, uphold, read, recite, and widely explain such a profound and subtle scripture as the one the Buddha has expounded, how much merit will they obtain?』
The Buddha said, 『Stop, stop. Virtuous man! Do not ask this question. Why? Because those with inferior faith and understanding cannot generate faith in such a profound scripture spoken by the Buddha, therefore I do not speak of it.』
Superior Flower Treasury Bodhisattva said to the Buddha, 『World Honored One! In this assembly, there are also many virtuous men and virtuous women who possess deep faith and understanding. I only wish that the Tathagata (Buddha) would briefly explain the merits of receiving and upholding this scripture, so that it may serve as a great light for all sentient beings in the future Dharma-ending age.』
The Buddha said to Superior Flower Treasury, 『Listen carefully, listen carefully! Now I will explain it for you.』 At that time, Superior Flower Treasury Bodhisattva received the teaching and listened attentively.
The Buddha said, 『Virtuous man! Suppose there is a person with great power and abundant merit, who is fully capable of understanding the boundaries of sentient beings, and says, 『As the Buddha has said, the worlds are boundless and sentient beings are endless. I can carry all these sentient beings on my head or shoulders for countless kalpas (aeons), and I can also provide all sentient beings with food, clothing, and all kinds of enjoyable things.』 Superior Flower Treasury! What do you think, would this person obtain much merit from this cause?』
Superior Flower Treasury said to the Buddha, 『Very much, World Honored One! If someone generates a compassionate heart towards one sentient being for the duration of a finger snap, the merit obtained is already much, how much more so in this case?』
The Buddha said, 『Superior Flower Treasury! I now truthfully tell you, if a virtuous man or virtuous woman can generate faith in this profound scripture themselves and persuade others to generate faith as well, the merit they obtain is many times greater than that person. Moreover, if someone can receive, uphold, read, recite, and widely explain this profound scripture, know that this person relies on the bodhicitta (mind of enlightenment).』
At that time, Mahasattva Superior Flower Treasury Bodhisattva said to the Buddha, 『World Honored One! Such a profound scripture as the one the Tathagata has spoken,』
經,若佛現在若涅槃后,我當受持讀誦為他廣說,宣通流佈使不斷絕。」
勝華藏菩薩發是言時,會中有九十六俱胝菩薩異口同音作如是言:「世尊!我等於佛所說深經,亦當受持讀誦為他廣說。」
爾時娑婆世界主大梵天王、帝釋天主、護世四王,及余無數諸天子眾,各以天曼陀羅華散於佛上,及以天華散諸菩薩,復作百千俱胝種天妙音樂而為供養。又發是言:「一切眾生得聞如是甚深正法,光明普照得大善利,我等於此法門咸當受持宣通流佈。」
佛言:「如是如是。諸善男子!如汝所說。今此正法不可思議,若人曾於十千佛所深種善根,是人方得此經墮手,況復有能受持讀誦,生信解邪!」
複次佛告勝華藏菩薩摩訶薩言:「今此正法若得聞者,隨彼方處一切女人轉成男子,唯除二種,謂慳、嫉者。」
即時會中有一女人,名曰離塵,心生信解,從座而起,前白佛言:「世尊!我今內心已滅慳嫉,我發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。若我發心真實無妄,當得成佛。及如佛所言,聞此法時隨處即得轉女人相。是事實者,愿我轉身得成男子。」爾時彼女發如是言已,即得轉成男子之身。時佛為授不退轉阿耨多羅三藐三菩提記,當得成佛,號除一切煩惱如來、應供、正等正覺。

【English Translation】 English version: 'The sutra says, whether the Buddha is present or after his Nirvana, I shall uphold, recite, and widely explain it to others, ensuring its continuous propagation.' When Bodhisattva Superior Flower Treasury (a Bodhisattva's name, meaning the excellent lotus treasure) spoke these words, ninety-six kotis (koti is an Indian numerical unit, here meaning extremely many) of Bodhisattvas in the assembly said in unison: 'World Honored One! We too shall uphold, recite, and widely explain the profound sutras spoken by the Buddha.' At that time, the Great Brahma King, the lord of the Saha world (the world we live in), Indra, the lord of the gods, the Four Guardian Kings, and countless other heavenly beings, each scattered celestial Mandarava flowers upon the Buddha, and celestial flowers upon the Bodhisattvas, and also offered hundreds of thousands of kotis of kinds of celestial music. They also made a vow, saying: 'If all sentient beings can hear such profound Dharma, be illuminated by its light, and gain great benefits, we shall all uphold and propagate this Dharma gate.' The Buddha said: 'So it is, so it is. Good men! As you have said. This Dharma is inconceivable. If a person has deeply planted good roots at the place of ten thousand Buddhas, that person can obtain this sutra, let alone uphold, recite, and generate faith and understanding!' The Buddha further said to Bodhisattva Mahasattva Superior Flower Treasury (a great Bodhisattva among Bodhisattvas): 'If anyone hears this Dharma, then in any place, all women will transform into men, except for two types of people, namely those who are stingy and jealous.' At that time, there was a woman named Free from Dust in the assembly, who generated faith and understanding in her heart. She rose from her seat and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! My heart has now eliminated stinginess and jealousy, and I have generated the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment). If my aspiration is true and not false, I should be able to attain Buddhahood. And as the Buddha said, upon hearing this Dharma, one can immediately transform from a woman's body in any place. If this is true, may I transform into a man.' At that time, after she spoke these words, she immediately transformed into a man's body. The Buddha then prophesied that she would certainly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi in the future, and would become a Buddha named Tathagata (one of the ten titles of a Buddha) Who Eliminates All Afflictions, Worthy of Offerings, and Perfectly Enlightened. 【English Translation】 English version: After this sutra was spoken, all the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas) such as Sheng Huazang (Superior Lotus Treasury), along with all the Bhikshu (monk) assembly, and even all the great assembly of the world including Devas (gods), humans, Asuras (demigods), etc., having heard what the Buddha had spoken, were all greatly delighted, and faithfully accepted and practiced it.
