如是我聞:
一時,佛住佉陀羅山,依正覺仙人所住之處,與千二百五十比丘俱。賢劫千菩薩彌勒為首。
爾時,長老優波離,即從坐起,整衣服,為佛作禮,白佛言:「世尊先於功德經中,說虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩名,能除一切惡不善業,治王旃陀羅乃至沙門旃陀羅,諸惡律儀,如此惡事若欲治,當云何觀虛空藏菩薩?設得見者,云何共住布薩僧事?若優婆塞破五戒、犯八戒齋,出家比丘、比丘尼、沙彌、沙彌尼、式叉摩尼犯四重禁,在家菩薩毀六重法,出家菩薩犯八重禁,如是過人,世尊先於毗尼中說,決定驅儐,如大石破。今於此經說大悲虛空藏能救諸苦,及說咒以除罪咎。設有此人,云何知之?以何為證?惟愿天尊!分別解說。」

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was dwelling on Khara Mountain, at the place where the Enlightened Sage resided, together with twelve hundred and fifty Bhikshus. The thousand Bodhisattvas of the Bhadrakalpa were led by Maitreya Bodhisattva. At that time, the elder Upali rose from his seat, arranged his robes, bowed to the Buddha, and said to the Buddha: 『World Honored One, you previously mentioned in the Sutra of Merits the name of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who can eliminate all evil and unwholesome deeds, and can govern the Chandala (outcast) kings and even the Shramana Chandalas (outcast monks), and their various evil behaviors. If one wishes to rectify these evil deeds, how should one contemplate Akasagarbha Bodhisattva? If one is able to see him, how should one conduct Posadha (monastic confession ceremony) and other monastic affairs together? If an Upasaka (layman) breaks the five precepts, violates the eight precepts of fasting, if a Bhikshu (monk), Bhiksuni (nun), Sramanera (novice monk), Sramanerika (novice nun), or Siksamana (probationary nun) commits the four grave offenses, if a Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva) at home violates the six grave dharmas, if a Bodhisattva who has left home violates the eight grave offenses, such transgressors, as the World Honored One previously stated in the Vinaya (monastic code), should be resolutely expelled, like a large stone being broken. Now, in this sutra, it is said that the compassionate Akasagarbha Bodhisattva can save all sufferings, and that mantras can eliminate transgressions. If there are such people, how should one know them? What should be the proof? May the Heavenly Honored One please explain this in detail.』 The Buddha said to Upali: 『You and all those in the future who uphold the Vinaya well should teach these beings who have committed offenses, and comfort their minds. The World Honored One』s great compassion and vast vows are immeasurable, and he does not abandon any beings. In the Sutra of Profound Merits, the method of governing transgressions is called the decisive Vinaya. There are thirty-five Buddhas, who save the world with great compassion, and you should respectfully bow to them. When you bow, you should wear the clothes of shame, feeling deep shame as if your eyes were festering, like a leper following the instructions of a good doctor. You should also be like this, generating a sense of shame. 十五佛名,別稱大悲虛空藏菩薩名。澡浴身體,燒眾名香,堅黑沉水。明星出時,長跪合掌,悲泣雨淚,稱虛空藏,白言:『大德、大悲菩薩,愍念我故,為我現身。』
「爾時,當起是想:是虛空藏菩薩頂上有如意珠,其如意珠作紫金色。若見如意珠,即見天冠。此天冠中,有三十五佛像現,如意珠中十方佛像現。虛空藏菩薩身長二十由旬,若現大身,與觀世音等。此菩薩結加趺坐,手捉如意珠王,其如意珠演眾法音與毗尼合。
「若此菩薩!憐愍眾生故,作比丘像及一切色像,若於夢中若坐禪時,以摩尼珠印,印彼人臂,印文有除罪字,得此字已,還入僧中,如本說戒。若優婆塞得此字者,不障出家,設不得此字,便使空中有聲唱言:『罪滅罪滅。』若無空聲使知毗尼者,夢見虛空藏菩薩,告言:『毗尼薩毗尼薩,某甲比丘、某甲優婆塞,更令懺悔。』一日乃至七七日禮三十五佛,虛空藏菩薩力故,汝罪輕微。知法者!復教令涂治圊廁,經八百日。日日告言:『汝作不凈事,汝今一心涂一切廁,莫令人知。涂已澡浴,禮三十五佛,稱虛空藏。向十二部經,五體投地,說汝過惡。』如是懺悔,復經三七日。爾時,智者應集親厚,于佛像前,稱三十五佛名,稱文殊師利、稱賢劫菩薩,為其作證,更白羯磨

【English Translation】 English version These are the names of fifteen Buddhas, also known as the names of the Great Compassionate Akasagarbha Bodhisattva. Bathe the body, burn various precious incenses, such as solid black agarwood. When the morning star appears, kneel with palms together, weep with sorrow, recite the name of Akasagarbha, and say: 『Great Virtuous, Great Compassionate Bodhisattva, please have mercy on me and manifest your form for my sake.』 At that time, one should contemplate this: on the crown of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva's head is a wish-fulfilling jewel, which is purple-gold in color. If one sees the wish-fulfilling jewel, it is equivalent to seeing the heavenly crown. Within this heavenly crown, thirty-five Buddha images appear, and in the wish-fulfilling jewel, Buddha images from the ten directions appear. Akasagarbha Bodhisattva's body is twenty yojanas (an ancient Indian unit of length) long. If he manifests a large body, he is like Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. This Bodhisattva sits in the lotus position, holding the wish-fulfilling jewel king in his hand. This wish-fulfilling jewel emits various Dharma sounds that are in accordance with the Vinaya (monastic rules). If this Bodhisattva, out of compassion for sentient beings, transforms into the form of a Bhikkhu (monk) or any other form, whether in a dream or during meditation, he will use a Mani jewel seal to imprint on that person's arm. The imprint will have the words 『removing sin.』 After receiving this mark, one can return to the Sangha (monastic community) and live according to the original precepts. If an Upasaka (male lay practitioner) receives this mark, it will not hinder his ordination. If one does not receive this mark, a voice will be heard in the sky saying: 『Sin is extinguished, sin is extinguished.』 If there is no voice in the sky, then let someone who knows the Vinaya dream of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva, who will tell him: 『Vinaya, Vinaya (precepts, precepts), so-and-so Bhikkhu, so-and-so Upasaka, must repent again.』 For one day up to forty-nine days, prostrate to the thirty-five Buddhas. Because of the power of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva, your sins will be lessened. One who knows the Dharma should then instruct him to clean and plaster the latrines for eight hundred days. Every day, tell him: 『You have done impure deeds, now you must wholeheartedly clean all the latrines, and do not let anyone know.』 After cleaning, bathe, prostrate to the thirty-five Buddhas, and recite the name of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva. Facing the twelve divisions of scriptures, prostrate with five limbs touching the ground, and confess your faults. After repenting in this way, continue for another twenty-one days. At that time, a wise person should gather close friends, in front of the Buddha image, recite the names of the thirty-five Buddhas, recite the names of Manjusri Bodhisattva, and recite the names of the Bodhisattvas of the Bhadrakalpa, to bear witness for him, and then perform the Karma (Sangha ritual).
,如前受戒法。此人因苦行力故,罪業永除,不障三種菩提業。」
佛告優波離:「汝持是觀虛空藏法,為未來世無慚愧眾生、多犯惡者廣分別說。」
說是語時,時虛空藏菩薩,結加趺坐,放金色光,如意珠中見三十五佛已,白佛言:「世尊!我此如意珠寶從首楞嚴出,是故眾生見珠者,得如意自在。」
爾時,世尊敕優波離:「汝持此經,不得為多眾廣說。但為一人持毗尼者,為未來世無眼目眾生,作眼目故,慎莫忘失。」
時,優波離聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。◎
◎右觀虛空藏菩薩經,按《開元錄》,系是單譯,止有二紙。經后舊尚有八紙經文,準校勘大藏竹堂講師批,該是後人採集虛空藏經咒,並諸經中佛名及咒,以為勸世修行法,不可連在觀虛空藏經后,下竺本及福本皆無。
又按此經,世尊先於深功德經說治罪法,名決定毗尼。有三十五佛者,即出《寶積經》第九十卷〈優波離會〉,與《決定毗尼經》同本,余文皆例此。然詳觀所批理,亦可以意會,徒存似是,姑為刪之。

【English Translation】 English version: Just like the previous method of receiving precepts. This person, due to the power of ascetic practices, will have their karmic offenses permanently removed, and will not be hindered in the three Bodhi (enlightenment) practices. The Buddha told Upali (one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha, foremost in upholding the precepts): 『You should uphold this method of contemplating Akasagarbha (a Bodhisattva, meaning 'the treasury of space'), and widely explain it to the shameless beings of the future world who commit many evil deeds.』 When the Buddha spoke these words, the Bodhisattva Akasagarbha, sitting in full lotus posture, emitted golden light, and after seeing the thirty-five Buddhas in the wish-fulfilling jewel, said to the Buddha: 『World Honored One! This wish-fulfilling jewel of mine comes from the Surangama (a kind of Samadhi), therefore, those beings who see this jewel will obtain wish-fulfilling freedom.』 At that time, the World Honored One instructed Upali: 『You should uphold this sutra, but do not widely preach it to many people. If there are sentient beings! Afflicted by various diseases, their minds scattered, deaf, blind, mute, with incomplete faculties, with different limbs, and with signs of death, such things. If they single-mindedly recite the name of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva, all diseases will be removed.

【English Translation】 English version: If one desires to be free from illness, they should burn black, solid aloeswood, or much Tagara incense, and pay homage to the great virtuous man of the void (referring to Akasagarbha Bodhisattva). This great virtuous man will appear in a dream at night, taking the form of a Brahmin, and appear before that person. Then, he will manifest as the image of Shakyamuni Buddha, the goddess of merit, the goddess of melodious sound, or as a Rakshasa, a minister, a soldier, a good medicine, or as the image of parents. In the dream at night, before the sick person, he will truthfully describe various remedies and decoctions suitable for the illness. Upon taking one dose, the illness will be completely cured, with no trace remaining. Furthermore, there are those who, in pursuit of their endeavors, wish to understand more about the meaning of the Dharma, or who, in a quiet place, wish to practice meditation, gain wisdom, achieve fame, acquire skillful techniques, attain freedom, receive a wonderful title, gain power, obtain wealth and ability, acquire a beautiful voice, have children, gain family members, acquire merit, practice giving, uphold precepts, practice patience, diligence, and meditation. They wish to obtain meaningful words, to be respected by others, to escape all calamities, to cease giving, and to abide in wisdom. They wish to have a long life, to obtain all the necessary tools, and to be able to use them. This person should pay homage to Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva (great Bodhisattva). If they are in an Aranya (quiet place), in a forest, or by the roadside, they should burn black, solid aloeswood or much Tagara incense, sincerely join their palms, prostrate with their five limbs touching the ground, pay homage in all ten directions, and recite the Dharani (mantra) verses. They will immediately obtain what they desire. The Buddha said, 'It is better if someone recites and chants the names of these Buddhas of the ten directions, and respectfully bows in reverence. This person will be reborn in the family of a Chakravartin King (a king who rules the world) in every lifetime, with a dignified appearance and high virtue; when approaching death, hundreds of billions of Buddhas will extend their hands to receive them, ensuring they do not fall into the three evil realms (hell, hungry ghosts, animals). Even if someone has committed the five heinous offenses (killing one's father, killing one's mother, killing an Arhat, disrupting the Sangha, and shedding the blood of a Buddha) and should fall into hell, they can experience a minor retribution in this life, such as a headache that will be relieved, thus offsetting the karma and not falling into the three evil realms to suffer. If a Bodhisattva violates the initial precept (referring to the fundamental precepts of the Bodhisattva vows), they should sincerely and earnestly repent before the ten assemblies (referring to the ten types of monastic communities, such as monks and nuns); if they violate a precept with their hands, they should sincerely and earnestly repent before the five assemblies; if they touch a woman with their hands, see with their eyes and generate evil thoughts, or before one or two people, they should sincerely and earnestly repent. If a Bodhisattva commits the five unpardonable offenses, violates a woman, or violates a man, or commits offenses with their hands, violates a stupa, or violates the Sangha, and other such offenses. The Bodhisattva should, before the thirty-five Buddhas, sincerely repent for the serious offenses committed, alone day and night. The method of repentance is to take refuge in the Buddha, take refuge in the Dharma, and take refuge in the Sangha.' Those who recite the names of these four Bodhisattvas and pay homage to them will not fall into the three evil realms after death. Eastern Emptiness Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva representing emptiness in the East), Southern Good Contemplation Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva representing good contemplation in the South), Western Joyful Faith Pure Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva representing joy and purity in the West), Northern Supernatural Flower Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva representing supernatural powers and flower-like beauty in the North). After several years, the people of the entire country knew about it. They all said: 'This Chetatha (遮他陀), harms his father and loves his mother, and it has been going on for years.' I then reflected and realized that I was no different from livestock, having completely lost my humanity. So, I jumped over the city wall of Kalunluo (加倫邏國) and fled to a deep swamp. This will bring blessings to people. If it is a virtuous man, he will be peaceful in this life, and whatever he seeks in his heart will be obtained. If it is a woman, she can transform into a man. If one can sincerely practice the Way for six periods of the day and night, reciting and upholding this mantra, one will obtain the merit of a kalpa (an eon, a unit of time in Buddhism).
二劫之罪,永不入惡趣。要用春秋涼時三月、四月八月、九月。
