如是我聞:

一時佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園,與大比丘眾一千二百五十人及七萬二千菩薩。是時長老舍利弗承佛神力,即從坐起,偏袒右肩,右膝著地,合掌禮佛,白佛言:「世尊!云何善男子、善女人懺悔滅罪,速得三藐三菩提?」

佛告舍利弗言:「人慾學三藐三菩提,或聲聞乘人,或緣覺乘人,或大乘人,或餘眾生,應誦十方十世界十佛名號,然十千燈,若酥、若油、香及磨香,亦隨燈數,種種花、種種果、種種葉,作大供養,行大布施。盛十頻伽水,盛十坩水,沐浴清凈,以香薰身,著新凈衣,更洗手足,兩手各持十枚蓮華,應當菜食,給使、僕人皆令凈潔。於十方面各施佛座(上方佛座宜須小高),懺悔之人於十方面隨便設座,即于坐處禮十方佛,口自發露懺悔從來所作行業,亦悔無始生死以來所造眾惡,改往修來,誓不復作!」佛言:「舍利弗!東方名阿輸歌世界(此謂無憂),于彼有佛,名月勝吉;南方難陀世界(此謂歡喜),于彼有佛,名旃檀吉;西方跋陀羅世界(此謂賢),于彼有佛,名無邊光明;北方饒益眼世界,于彼有佛,名幢吉;東南方

Thus have I heard:

At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Jeta Grove of Anāthapiṇḍika in Śrāvastī, with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty Bhikṣus and seventy-two thousand Bodhisattvas. At that time, the elder Śāriputra, empowered by the Buddha's spiritual strength, rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms in reverence to the Buddha, and said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One! How should good men and good women repent and extinguish their sins, and quickly attain Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment)?'

The Buddha said to Śāriputra: 'Those who wish to learn Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment), whether they are followers of the Śrāvakayāna, the Pratyekabuddhayāna, the Mahāyāna, or other sentient beings, should recite the names of the ten Buddhas in the ten directions and ten worlds, light ten thousand lamps, whether of ghee, oil, fragrance, or ground incense, and according to the number of lamps, prepare various kinds of flowers, various kinds of fruits, and various kinds of leaves, make great offerings, and perform great acts of charity. Fill ten Kalaviṅka water vessels with water, fill ten crucibles with water, bathe to purify the body, fumigate the body with incense, wear new and clean clothes, wash hands and feet again, hold ten lotus flowers in each hand, should eat vegetarian food, and make all servants and attendants clean. Set up Buddha seats in the ten directions (the Buddha seat above should be slightly higher), and the person who repents should set up seats at will in the ten directions, and in the place of the seat, prostrate to the Buddhas of the ten directions, and verbally confess and repent of the actions he has done in the past, and also repent of all the evil deeds he has committed since beginningless birth and death, correct past mistakes, cultivate future good deeds, and vow not to repeat them!' Day and night, six times a day, they diligently practice the Way, prostrate in worship, baring their right shoulder, placing their right knee on the ground, joining their palms towards the Buddha, and then speak these words: 'I pay homage to all Buddhas, Tathagatas, those Buddhas in the ten directions who have attained Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment), now turning the Dharma wheel, now emitting the light of the Dharma wheel, now receiving the Dharma wheel, now raining the Dharma rain, now striking the Dharma drum, now blowing the Dharma conch, now erecting the Dharma banner, now lighting the Dharma torch, now using the Dharma to bestow abundance upon sentient beings, according to what all sentient beings desire, all is spoken for them, able to greatly benefit and bring peace to sentient beings, for the sake of compassion for the world, for the sake of benefiting gods and humans, I now bow my head to those Tathagatas. Those Tathagatas, those Buddhas are worthy of respect and should be offered to. The Buddhas are great wisdom, are the eyes of the world, able to bear witness for the world, lead the world, knowing and seeing directly. I respectfully bow to those Buddhas with body, speech, and mind.' 'From beginningless birth and death, the evil deeds I have created have become obstacles for all sentient beings, or arising from greed, or arising from hatred, or arising from delusion, not recognizing the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, not recognizing good and bad dharmas, or using evil body, speech, and mind to harm the Buddha, causing the Buddha's body to bleed, or slandering the true Dharma, or breaking the harmony of the Sangha, or killing a true Arhat, or killing parents, or completely creating the ten unwholesome paths, or having done, now doing, about to do, or seeing others do and praising and rejoicing, or using the actions of body, speech, and mind to create all kinds of evil deeds, using harsh words to hurt people, scolding, slandering others, or using unjust scales to deceive people, or in the six realms of reincarnation, disturbing parents, or taking the property of pagodas and temples, or using the property of the Sangha, or using the property of the Sangha from all directions, or...'


破佛所制戒,或不隨和上阿阇梨語,或瞋或罵,或誹謗聲聞、緣覺、大乘,或因慳嫉造諸惡業,或惡罵如來,或法說非法,或非法說法,如是一切諸惡,我今於十方諸佛發露懺悔!彼諸如來現見、現知、現證,我于佛前一心發露,不敢覆藏;發露已,后誓不敢作。是諸罪業應入地獄、餓鬼、畜生、阿修羅道,或經八難,愿此諸罪現前消滅,未來不生!

「『我今日在諸佛前,發露懺悔,不敢覆藏;發露之後,誓不敢作。如過去諸菩薩為修行菩提,如彼所懺悔,我今亦復如是懺業障礙,發露之後,不敢復作;如未來諸菩薩摩訶薩當懺悔,我亦如是懺悔發露,發露之後誓不更作;如現在十方菩薩摩訶薩,為修行菩提今現懺悔,我亦如是懺悔發露,誓不更作;如過去、未來、現在三世諸菩薩摩訶薩,為修行菩提,已懺悔、當懺悔、現懺悔,我亦如是懺悔,誓不敢作。』舍利弗!若善男子、善女人當如是懺悔。

「是故舍利弗!若善男子、善女人慾得於一切諸法清凈,無有障礙,應當如是懺悔諸惡業障;既發露已,誓不更作。若樂生剎利、富貴種姓,多饒財寶,種種具足,形貌端正,欲得大乘者,當如是懺悔;若欲得四天王處,當如是懺悔;若欲得三十三天、炎摩天、兜率陀天、化樂天、他化自在天,應如是懺悔

『所以舍利弗!如果善男子、善女人想要得到一切諸法清凈,沒有障礙,應當這樣懺悔各種惡業的障礙;既然發露之後,發誓不再犯。如果喜歡生在剎利(Kshatriya,印度種姓制度中的第二等級,即武士階層)、富貴種姓,擁有眾多財寶,各種條件具足,容貌端正,想要得到大乘的利益,應當這樣懺悔;如果想要得到四天王處,應當這樣懺悔;如果想要得到三十三天、炎摩天、兜率陀天、化樂天、他化自在天,應當這樣懺悔。

【English Translation】 English version Transgressing the precepts established by the Buddha, or not following the words of the Upadhyaya (preceptor) or Acharya (teacher), or being angry or abusive, or slandering the Śrāvakas (hearers), Pratyekabuddhas (solitary realizers), or the Mahāyāna (Great Vehicle), or creating various evil karmas due to stinginess and jealousy, or reviling the Tathāgata (Thus Gone One), or saying what is not the Dharma is the Dharma, or saying what is the Dharma is not the Dharma, all such evils, I now confess and repent before the Buddhas of the ten directions! May those Tathāgatas see, know, and realize directly; I confess wholeheartedly before the Buddha, daring not to conceal; having confessed, I vow never to commit them again. These sinful deeds should lead to hell (Naraka), hungry ghosts (Preta), animals (Tiryagyoni), Asura realms, or experiencing the eight difficulties; may these sins be extinguished in the present and not arise in the future!

'Today, before all the Buddhas, I confess and repent, daring not to conceal; having confessed, I vow never to commit them again. Just as the Bodhisattvas (enlightenment beings) of the past confessed for the sake of cultivating Bodhi (enlightenment), so too do I now confess my karmic obstacles, daring not to commit them again after confession; just as the future Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (great Bodhisattvas) will confess, so too do I confess and reveal, vowing never to commit them again after confession; just as the Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas of the ten directions in the present are now confessing for the sake of cultivating Bodhi, so too do I confess and reveal, vowing never to commit them again; just as the Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas of the past, future, and present three times have confessed, will confess, and are now confessing for the sake of cultivating Bodhi, so too do I confess, vowing never to commit them again.' Śāriputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples)! If good men and good women should confess in this way.

'Therefore, Śāriputra! If good men and good women wish to attain purity in all dharmas, without obstacles, they should confess the obstacles of various evil karmas in this way; having confessed, they vow never to commit them again. If they desire to be born into Kshatriya (warrior caste) or wealthy families, with abundant wealth, complete with all kinds of qualities, and with handsome appearance, and wish to attain the benefits of the Mahāyāna, they should confess in this way; if they wish to attain the realm of the Four Heavenly Kings, they should confess in this way; if they wish to attain the Trayastrimsa Heaven, Yama Heaven, Tusita Heaven, Nirmānarati Heaven, Paranirmita-vasavartin Heaven, they should confess in this way.


;若欲得梵身天、梵富樓天、大梵天、少光、無量光、光曜少凈、無量凈、遍凈、受福無掛礙天、果實天、無想天、不煩不熱、善見、善現、色究竟,當如是懺悔。若樂生無色界空處、識處、不用處、非想非非想處,當如是懺悔。若欲得須陀洹、斯陀含、阿那含、阿羅漢果,當如是懺悔。若欲得聲聞三明、六通、神力自在、聰明利智;若欲得緣覺菩提,當如是懺悔;若欲得一切智清凈智、不可思議智、無等等智、正遍智,如是當懺悔。

「舍利弗!何以故?一切諸法由因緣生,如來所說有法從緣生,有法從緣滅,以因緣展轉,于彼法過去,彼已滅、已轉,彼業無障礙,彼諸法未生,亦無障礙。舍利弗!何以故?一切諸法如來所說,皆悉空寂,無眾生、無壽命、無人,不生不滅。舍利弗!一切諸法自身所造,自身者亦是有。舍利弗!若善男子、善女人慾入此法慧,所謂無真實眾生,此謂說滅一切業障。」懺悔品竟。

爾時舍利弗白佛言:「世尊!善男子、善女人慾得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,欲得聲聞乘、緣覺乘、大乘,或有餘人修功德,云何當生隨喜善根?」

爾時佛告舍利弗:「善男子、善女人若欲隨喜,晝夜六時偏袒右肩,右膝著地,恭敬合掌,如是當說此言:『若有眾生於十方已作功德事,若布

施、若持戒、若修行,我于彼一切隨喜,以第一隨喜、勝隨喜、最上隨喜、無上隨喜、無等隨喜、無等等隨喜,我悉如是隨喜。若有眾生於十方當作功德,若佈施、若持戒、若修行,我于彼一切隨喜,以第一隨喜、勝隨喜、最上隨喜、無上隨喜、無等隨喜、無等等隨喜,我悉如是隨喜。若有眾生於十方今現作功德,若佈施、若持戒、若修行,我于彼一切隨喜,以第一隨喜、勝隨喜、最上隨喜、無上隨喜、無等隨喜、無等等隨喜,我悉如是隨喜。

'If there are those Bodhisattvas' (bodhicitta, the mind of enlightenment) initial arising of the bodhicitta merit, if those Bodhisattvas have already accumulated merit through hundreds of kalpas (aeons) of practice, if those Bodhisattvas have already attained the merit of the Anutpattika-dharma-kshanti (non-arising dharma-acceptance, insight into the non-arising and non-ceasing nature of phenomena), if those Bodhisattvas have already attained the merit of the Avaivartika-bhumi (non-retreating stage, the state of non-regression), if Bodhisattvas progress from the first stage to the tenth stage, I rejoice in all of their merit, with the foremost rejoicing, the superior rejoicing, up to the unequaled-of-the-unequaled rejoicing. If Bodhisattvas have previously cultivated meritorious roots corresponding to the Six Paramitas (sat-paramita, six perfections: generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom), I rejoice in all of it, with the foremost rejoicing up to the unequaled-of-the-unequaled rejoicing. If future Bodhisattvas will cultivate meritorious roots corresponding to the Six Paramitas, I rejoice in all of it, with the foremost rejoicing up to the unequaled-of-the-unequaled rejoicing. If worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River were filled with the seven treasures and offered to all the Buddhas, the merit of the previous entreaty by good men and good women surpasses this merit immeasurably. Thus, I entreat for Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. Sariputra! This is called the assembly of entreaty. With this assembly of entreaty, if good men and good women make entreaties now, their merit is inconceivable. Why is that? Sariputra! I first cultivated the Bodhi path, and I have thus entreated all the Buddhas to turn the Wheel of Dharma. With this merit, I attained Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. 『Just as the past Bodhisattvas (beings striving for enlightenment) cultivated roots of good for Bodhi (enlightenment), cultivated dedication for all-knowing wisdom; so do I, dedicate to all-knowing wisdom, with this root of good I shall attain anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, attain all-knowing wisdom. Just as the future Bodhisattvas will cultivate dedication of roots of good for all-knowing wisdom; so do I, with dedication of roots of good for all-knowing wisdom. 「舍利弗!此謂迴向功德聚。此功德聚,勝前佈施功德聚,百分千萬億分,乃至算數譬喻所不能及。

「舍利弗!若善男子、善女人受持此經為他廣說,所得功德無數無量。舍利弗!若有人能令三千大千世界雜類眾生,於一念頃俱得人身已,復能令得緣覺菩提,常以四事供養,施與一一緣覺七寶,如須彌山,如是日日乃至入涅槃,入涅槃已起七寶塔,花香、幡蓋種種供養。

『如同過去的釋迦牟尼佛(Sakyamuni Buddha),坐在菩提樹下,安住于不可思議的無垢禪定,降伏惡魔,所有諸法可知、可見、可覺,在夜後分明星出現時,以一念相應的智慧修行滅苦之道,證得醍醐(涅槃);我也要像這樣,一切眾生學習阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。如同無量光明如來(Amitabha Tathagata)、勝光明如來、清凈光明如來、功德光明如來、師子如來、百光如來、高明如來、網光如來、珠光如來、火光如來、光王如來、莊嚴如來、寶幢如來、法幢如來、身勝如來等應供、正遍知,如同其餘諸佛、世尊,已經證得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,已經轉動法輪,爲了饒益眾多眾生,爲了安穩諸眾生,爲了慈悲世間乃至以義理饒益一切天、人;我也要像這樣,爲了一切眾生證得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,應當轉動法輪,爲了饒益眾多眾生,爲了安穩眾生,爲了慈悲世間乃至以義理饒益一切天、人。』

『舍利弗(Sariputra)!這叫做迴向功德聚集。這功德聚集,勝過之前的佈施功德聚集,百分、千萬億分,乃至算數譬喻都不能比及。

『舍利弗!如果善男子、善女人受持這部經,為他人廣泛解說,所得到的功德無數無量。舍利弗!如果有人能夠令三千大千世界各種各樣的眾生,在一念之間都得到人身,又能令他們證得緣覺菩提(Pratyekabuddha-bodhi),常常以四事供養,施與每一位緣覺七寶,像須彌山(Sumeru)一樣,這樣日日供養乃至入涅槃,入涅槃后建造七寶塔,用花香、幡蓋種種供養。

【English Translation】 English version: Wisdom is the root of all knowledge. With this root of goodness, may all sentient beings attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unsurpassed, complete and perfect enlightenment), and gain all wisdom.

『Just as the past Sakyamuni Buddha (釋迦牟尼佛), sitting under the Bodhi tree, abiding in inconceivable, immaculate Samadhi, subdued the demons, and all dharmas were knowable, visible, and perceivable. In the later part of the night, when the morning star appeared, with a single thought corresponding to the wisdom practice of the path to extinguish suffering, he attained the essence of enlightenment; I, too, will be like this, with all sentient beings learning Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. Like the Immeasurable Light Tathagata (無量光明如來), the Victorious Light Tathagata, the Pure Light Tathagata, the Merit Light Tathagata, the Lion Tathagata, the Hundred Light Tathagata, the High Light Tathagata, the Net Light Tathagata, the Pearl Light Tathagata, the Fire Light Tathagata, the Light King Tathagata, the Adornment Tathagata, the Jewel Banner Tathagata, the Dharma Banner Tathagata, the Body Victorious Tathagata, and other worthy of offerings, perfectly enlightened ones, like all other Buddhas, World Honored Ones, who have already attained Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, have already turned the Dharma wheel, for the benefit of many sentient beings, for the peace and security of all sentient beings, for compassion towards the world, and even to benefit all gods and humans with righteousness; I, too, will be like this, for all sentient beings to attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, I shall turn the Dharma wheel, for the benefit of many sentient beings, for the peace and security of sentient beings, for compassion towards the world, and even to benefit all gods and humans with righteousness.』

『Sariputra (舍利弗)! This is called the accumulation of merit from dedication. This accumulation of merit surpasses the previous accumulation of merit from giving, by hundreds of thousands of millions of times, even beyond what numbers and metaphors can reach.』

『Sariputra! If a good man or good woman receives and upholds this sutra and widely explains it to others, the merit obtained will be countless and immeasurable. Sariputra! If someone can cause the various kinds of sentient beings in the three thousand great thousand worlds to all obtain human bodies in a single thought, and can also enable them to attain Pratyekabuddha-bodhi (緣覺菩提), constantly making offerings with the four requisites, giving each Pratyekabuddha seven treasures, like Mount Sumeru (須彌山), offering in this way day after day until they enter Nirvana, and after entering Nirvana, building seven-jeweled stupas, making various offerings with flowers, incense, banners, and canopies.』


舍利弗!于汝意云何,是善男子、善女人所得功德寧為多不?」

舍利弗言:「甚多,世尊!甚多,善逝!」

「是故舍利弗!若善男子、善女人受持此經,所得功德復多於彼,愿此功德為阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,此功德比先功德,百分千萬億分,乃至算數譬喻所不能及。何以故?舍利弗!善男子、善女人信此經,勸請十方諸佛為轉法輪,如我所說法施勝於財施!」

爾時四眾一萬人俱從坐起,皆偏袒右肩,右膝著地,合掌向佛,而說此言:「世尊!我等當受持此經,為人廣說當信。何以故?世尊我等欲得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提!我當成就如是善根、如是善法!」

是時帝釋天王散以天花,供養世尊及此經法,而說此言:「世尊!此經有大功德,為增長諸菩薩善根,為滅業障。」

是時佛告帝釋:「如是,如是!憍尸迦!何以故?天王!我念過去阿僧祇劫,是時有大光聚如來、應供、正遍知出現於世。天王!大光聚如來、應供、正遍知,壽六十八億歲,初始說法有百千萬億弟子,彼一切皆阿羅漢盡諸有漏;第二說法有九十九千億弟子,亦皆漏盡得阿羅漢;第三說法有九十八億百千弟子,諸漏已盡,得阿羅漢。天王!彼大光明聚如來、應供、正遍知,為一切世間諸天、梵王、沙門、婆羅門故

『因此,舍利弗!如果善男子、善女人受持這部經,所獲得的功德比他們還要多。愿以此功德迴向阿耨多羅三藐三菩提(anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi,無上正等正覺)。此功德與先前的功德相比,百分、千萬、億分,乃至用算術譬喻都無法企及。為什麼呢?舍利弗!善男子、善女人相信這部經,勸請十方諸佛為眾生轉法輪(dharma-cakra,佛法的傳播),像我所說的法佈施勝過財物佈施!』

這時,四眾(比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷)一萬人一起從座位上站起來,都袒露右肩,右膝著地,合掌向佛,說了這樣的話:『世尊!我們應當受持這部經,為他人廣泛宣說,並且深信不疑。為什麼呢?世尊!我們想要獲得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提!我們應當成就這樣的善根、這樣的善法!』

【English Translation】 English version: Śāriputra! What do you think, are the merits acquired by these good men and good women many or not?'

Śāriputra said: 'Very many, World Honored One (Bhagavan)! Very many, Well-Gone One (Sugata)!'

'Therefore, Śāriputra! If good men and good women receive and uphold this sutra, the merits they acquire will be even greater than those. May these merits be dedicated to anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment). These merits, compared to the previous merits, cannot be reached by a hundred, a thousand, a million, or even by arithmetic analogies. Why? Śāriputra! Good men and good women believe in this sutra and encourage the Buddhas of the ten directions to turn the Dharma wheel (dharma-cakra, the wheel of Dharma), as the Dharma giving I speak of is superior to material giving!'

At that time, ten thousand people from the four assemblies (bhikṣus, bhikṣuṇīs, upāsakas, upāsikās) rose together from their seats, all baring their right shoulders, kneeling on their right knees, and, with palms joined, facing the Buddha, they spoke these words: 'World Honored One! We shall receive and uphold this sutra, widely proclaim it to others, and believe in it deeply. Why? World Honored One! We desire to attain anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi! We shall accomplish such good roots and such good dharmas!'

At that time, Śakra devānām indraḥ (the king of the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven) scattered heavenly flowers, offering them to the World Honored One and this sutra, and spoke these words: 'World Honored One! This sutra has great merit, for increasing the good roots of all bodhisattvas (enlightenment beings), and for eradicating karmic obstacles.'

At that time, the Buddha said to Śakra (Śakra): 'So it is, so it is! Kauśika (another name for Śakra)! Why? King of Gods! I recall in the past asaṃkhya-kalpas (innumerable eons), at that time, Mahātejaskandha-tathāgata (Great Radiance Accumulation Thus Come One), arhat (worthy of offerings), samyak-saṃbuddha (perfectly enlightened one) appeared in the world. King of Gods! Mahātejaskandha-tathāgata, arhat, samyak-saṃbuddha, lived for sixty-eight billion years. Initially, when he preached the Dharma, he had a hundred million trillion disciples, all of whom were arhats, having exhausted all outflows; the second time he preached the Dharma, he had ninety-nine trillion disciples, all of whom had also exhausted their outflows and attained arhatship; the third time he preached the Dharma, he had ninety-eight billion hundred thousand disciples, all of whom had exhausted their outflows and attained arhatship. King of Gods! That Great Radiance Accumulation Thus Come One, arhat, samyak-saṃbuddha, for the sake of all the devas (gods), brahmās (creator gods), śrāmaṇas (ascetics), and brāhmaṇas (priests) in the world'


,住經六十八億歲。是時帝釋天王及四眾,從光明聚如來受持此經,為多利益一切世間,為成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。

「復有一天女,名竭伽陀,受持此經,發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,厭離女人,得丈夫身,常生人、天之中,不經惡趣,八萬四千世作轉輪王。憍尸迦!于汝意云何,至此彼竭伽陀女人豈異人乎?即我身是。我昔于億百千世界值無數佛,同名光明聚如來,于彼佛所悉聞此經。若善男子、善女人聞此如來名,必定當得大般涅槃。若有女人聞此光明聚如來名者,當轉女身,壽命終時,無有疑亂,不更受女身。憍尸迦!此經大功德恩,能攝受諸菩薩摩訶薩善根,能滅諸業障礙。」

是時帝釋白佛言:「世尊!當何名此經?云何受持?」是時佛告帝釋:「憍尸迦!此經名『滅業障礙』,汝當受持;亦名『菩薩藏』,汝當受持;亦名『斷一切疑』,如是受持。」

佛說經已,帝釋、天王及長老舍利弗、比丘眾,及諸菩薩、天、人、阿修羅、乾闥婆,一切世間聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

佛說完此經,帝釋、天王及長老舍利弗(Śāriputra,佛陀十大弟子之一)、比丘眾,及諸菩薩、天、人、阿修羅(asura,一種神道)、乾闥婆(gandharva,一種天神),一切世間聽聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

【English Translation】 English version: Dwelt for sixty-eight billion years. At that time, Śakra-devānām-Indra (the king of the gods in Buddhism) and the fourfold assembly received and upheld this sutra from Ratna-ucchraya Tathagata (the Tathagata of accumulated light), for the great benefit of all the world, and for the attainment of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment).

'Furthermore, there was a goddess named Gaggatā, who received and upheld this sutra, generated the mind of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, became weary of the female body, obtained a male body, and was constantly born among humans and gods, without experiencing evil destinies, and for eighty-four thousand lifetimes became a cakravartin-rāja (wheel-turning king). Kauśika (another name for Śakra)! What do you think, is that Gaggatā woman who came here different from anyone else? It is myself. In the past, in hundreds of thousands of millions of worlds, I encountered countless Buddhas, all with the same name, Ratna-ucchraya Tathagata, and from those Buddhas, I heard this sutra in its entirety. If good men or good women hear the name of this Tathagata, they will certainly attain mahā-parinirvāṇa (great nirvana). If any woman hears the name of this Ratna-ucchraya Tathagata, she will transform her female body, and at the end of her life, she will be without doubt or confusion, and will no longer receive a female body. Kauśika! This sutra has great meritorious grace, capable of gathering the roots of goodness of all bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (great bodhisattvas), and capable of extinguishing the obstacles of all karmas.'

At that time, Śakra (Indra) said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One! What should this sutra be called? How should it be upheld?' At that time, the Buddha told Śakra: 'Kauśika! This sutra is named 'Extinguishing Karmic Obstacles,' you should uphold it; it is also named 'Bodhisattva Treasury,' you should uphold it; it is also named 'Cutting Off All Doubts,' uphold it in this way.'

After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, Śakra, the king of the gods, and the elder Śāriputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples), the assembly of monks, and all the bodhisattvas, gods, humans, asuras (a type of deity), gandharvas (a type of celestial musician), all the world, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced and practiced accordingly.
