《華嚴經》的性海容納了香水般的百川,法界的義天顯現出寶光般的萬象。它窮盡了佛陀的真智,涵蓋了所有有情眾生的靈性之源。因此,世主妙嚴文殊(Manjusri,智慧的象徵)結集了此經,在龍宮誦出,從雞足山傳來,代代相傳,廣為流傳於華夏。李長者合論四十軸,觀國師疏鈔一百卷,龍樹尊者(Nagarjuna)二十萬偈,佛國禪師五十四贊。這四家的學說,是學者們所遵循的。如果要概括大經的要點,揭示法界的綱目,標明知識的儀相,闡述善財(Sudhana)的悟門,使人與境相互交融,事與理同時顯現,那麼,意蘊詳盡而文字簡練的,莫過於這圖讚了。信受奉行,是為此圖讚的序引。
善財童子最初來到裟羅林中,參訪文殊師利菩薩(Manjusri)。像王回顧,師子低吟。六千比丘當場開悟成道,五眾益友頓時開啟初心。善財童子獲得了根本智的指南法門,證得了十信心。

Praises on the Guide Map of Manjusri by Chan Master Foguo
Composed by Zhang Shangying, Secretariat Drafter
The nature-ocean of the Avatamsaka Sutra accommodates hundreds of rivers of fragrant water. The righteous heaven of the Dharma Realm manifests myriad images of precious light. It exhausts the true wisdom of the Buddhas and encompasses the spiritual source of all sentient beings. Therefore, World Lord Wonderful Adornment Manjusri (Manjusri, symbol of wisdom) compiled this sutra, recited it in the Dragon Palace, and transmitted it from Chicken Foot Mountain. It has been passed down through generations and widely circulated in China. Elder Li combined forty scrolls of treatises, National Master Guan wrote one hundred volumes of commentaries, Venerable Nagarjuna (Nagarjuna) composed two hundred thousand verses, and Chan Master Foguo wrote fifty-four praises. The doctrines of these four masters are followed by scholars. If one wants to summarize the essentials of the great sutra, reveal the outline of the Dharma Realm, mark the appearance of knowledge, and explain Sudhana's (Sudhana) enlightenment, so that people and environment intermingle and both phenomena and principles are revealed, then nothing is more detailed in meaning and concise in writing than these praises on the map. Believing, accepting, and practicing are the introduction to these praises.
Sudhana first arrived in the Shala Grove to visit Manjusri Bodhisattva (Manjusri). The elephant king looked back, and the lion groaned. Six thousand bhikshus attained enlightenment on the spot, and the beneficial friends of the five aggregates immediately awakened their initial minds. Sudhana obtained the guiding Dharma gate of fundamental wisdom and attained the ten faiths.
Praise says:
Leaving the forest and entering it again, it is east of the Shala Buddha Temple When the lion roars, the fragrant grass is green, where the elephant king turns, fallen flowers are red Six thousand beggars have fulfilled the ten faiths, and the eminent people of the five aggregates have attained one faith I cherish my teacher as he goes south, the smoke and water of hundreds of cities are vast and boundless
Sudhana went to Mount Wonderful Peak for the second time to visit Bhikshu Deyun. After searching for seven days, he saw him walking slowly on another peak. Sudhana prostrated and asked for the Dharma, entered the realm of the Buddha, obtained the Dharma gate of remembering all Buddhas and seeing them universally, and attained the Abode of Initial Aspiration.

一入多門,又到一門,分明是普眼照耀乾坤。 十年觀海,深深領會其中趣味,千年聽經,品品都存在心中。 白浪涌起如花,呈現奇異的祥瑞,紅蓮顯現佛陀,獨稱至尊。
須彌山(Sumeru)般的筆墨也難以寫盡,萬頃滄波令人心神欲斷。
善財童子第四次前往楞伽(Lanka)道旁,參訪善住比丘(Shanzhu Bhikshu)。善住比丘來往于空中,廣現神通變化,手摩日月,身出煙焰,遍游諸佛剎土,普散天花。善財童子因此得到普速疾供養諸佛法門,證得修行位。

迢迢千里來到海邊的楞伽,遙望空中,景象真是美好。 唸唸之間,遍游諸佛剎土,紛紛揚揚,飄落美麗的天花。 手摩日月,超越三輪之外,身出煙雲,四面遮蔽。 如果還要追求升官發財的快樂,就像禹門(Yumen)的洪流中跳躍的金蝸牛。

【English Translation】 English version On the summit of Wonderful Peak, walking around with unfixed traces.
Seven days have passed, yet you said you couldn't find me; why do we meet now? The place where the aspiration for practice arises aligns with the conditions for a spiritual teacher; within the gate of Universal Vision, the realm of the Buddha appears. Looking back from the slope under the setting sun, countless layers of white clouds and green mountains are seen.
Sudhana (Shancai Tongzi) went to Haimen Kingdom for the third time to visit Bhikshu Haiyun (Haiyun Bhikshu). Bhikshu Haiyun contemplated the sea for twelve years, manifesting the Buddha. For twelve hundred years, he touched the crown of heads and expounded the scriptures, remembering and upholding them, which is difficult to write down even with gathered pens. Therefore, Sudhana obtained the Universal Eye Dharma Gate and attained the Abiding in the Ground of Healing.
Eulogy says:
Once entering many gates, and arriving at another gate, it is clear that the Universal Eye illuminates the universe. Ten years of contemplating the sea, deeply understanding its interest; a thousand years of hearing the scriptures, each item remains in the mind. White waves surge like flowers, presenting extraordinary auspiciousness; the red lotus manifests the Buddha, uniquely called the Honored One.
Even Sumeru (Sumeru) of gathered pens cannot fully write it down; the vast blue waves of ten thousand acres almost break the spirit.
Sudhana went to the side of Lanka (Lanka) Road for the fourth time to visit Bhikshu Shanzhu (Shanzhu Bhikshu). Bhikshu Shanzhu came and went in the air, widely manifesting supernatural transformations, touching the sun and moon with his hands, emitting smoke and flames from his body, traveling throughout the Buddha lands, and scattering heavenly flowers everywhere. Therefore, Sudhana obtained the Dharma Gate of Universally and Swiftly Offering to All Buddhas and attained the position of Practicing.
Eulogy says:
Traveling far to the seaside Lanka, gazing remotely at the sky, the scene is truly beautiful. In every thought, traveling throughout the Buddha lands, fluttering and dazzling, falling heavenly flowers. Touching the sun and moon, beyond the three wheels; emitting smoke and clouds from the body, covering all four sides. If you seek further the happiness of being born into nobility and pleasure, it's like a golden snail jumping in the torrential waves of Yumen (Yumen).
Sudhana went to Daricha Kingdom (Daricha) for the fifth time to visit Mijia the Elder (Mijia the Elder). After inquiring, he paid respects, scattered fragrant flowers and treasures, emitted light and illuminated, distinguished the wheel of letters, and thoroughly investigated ten thousand

善財童子第七次前往摩利伽羅國,參訪海幢比丘。用半年時間觀察三昧(Samadhi),在禪定境界中顯現十四種類,涌現百千種景象。般若(Prajna)智慧的光芒照耀,有什麼不能彰顯的呢?獲得普眼捨得法門,證得正心住。

【English Translation】 English version: Comprehending the Dharani (總持) method of similar sounds, obtaining the Dharani (陀羅尼) Dharma gate of wonderful sounds, and attaining the state of being born into nobility.
A verse of praise says:
Sandalwood, golden flowers, fragrant treasures and jewels, Scattered in profusion, revealing majestic power. Surging light illuminates the three thousand worlds, Distinct words divide into myriad-character wheels. Dense forests and barbarian lands harbor tigers and leopards, Deep and still pools gather dragons and unicorns.
Wonderful sounds chant Dharani (陀羅尼) language, Distinguishing all the barbarians and **.
Sudhana (善財童子), on his sixth journey, went to Zhulin City (住林城) to visit the Elder Jietuo (解脫). He manifested the Buddha lands of the ten directions within his own body. The Buddha lands are not different, so what is the distinction? Not coming yet coming, seeing when one wishes to see. He obtained the unobstructed and adorned Dharma gate of the Tathagata (如來), and attained the Abiding in Perfection.
A verse of praise says:
In twelve years, arriving at Zhulin (住林), Visiting a kindred spirit deep within Zhulin (住林).
Sometimes wanting to see the Buddhas of the ten directions, At other times, idly contemplating a single mind. Neither going nor coming, like a flame's shadow, Conditions arising and ceasing, time passes by. The adorned gate opens, who arrives? In the secluded path, fallen flowers and flowing water are deep.
Sudhana (善財童子), on his seventh journey, went to Molijialuo (摩利伽羅) country to visit the Bhikshu Haichuang (海幢). He observed Samadhi (三昧) for half a year. In the state of Samadhi (三昧), fourteen categories appeared, surging with hundreds of thousands of forms. The light of Prajna (般若) wisdom shines, what is not revealed? He obtained the Dharma gate of Universal Eye Giving, and attained the Abiding in Right Mind.

Time has passed by half a lifetime, All day long, in darkness, still as a mountain. Fourteen categories are born from the body, Hundreds of thousands of kinds surge from the pores. Observing with one mind without rest, Six months of contemplation are not idle. The spring scenery of Molijialuo (摩利伽羅) is beautiful, Willows, orioles, swallows, their language soft and gentle.

【English Translation】 English version Sudhana Kumara, on his eighth pilgrimage, arrived at the Hai Chao Chu Garden (Hǎi Cháo Chù Yuánlín, Ocean Tide Place Garden) and visited Upasika Xiu She (Xiūshè Yōupóyí, Xiu She, a female lay practitioner). Her halls and pavilions were magnificent, and the ponds were interspersed harmoniously. Wisdom and compassion moved in unison, transcending the duality of birth and death. Destroying afflictions, he aroused the Bodhi mind, comprehended the ultimate vow, obtained the Dharma Gate of the Banner of Freedom from Sorrow and Peace (Líyōu Ānyǐn Zhuàng Fǎmén, Dharma Gate of the Unworried and Peaceful Banner), and attained the stage of non-retrogression. Ode: Between the jeweled trees and gardens are jeweled walls, the golden light net covers the golden bed, the thousand-layered halls and pavilions are lofty and magnificent, the myriad streams of ponds are filled with fragrance. The ultimate vow gate pervades the Dharma realm, the Bodhi mind is vast and extends to the dust-like directions, Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges have served, the high and stable banner is the place to rest. Sudhana Kumara, on his ninth pilgrimage, arrived at the Naravasu Country (Nàluósù Guó) and visited the Rishi Vimu Ghosha (Pímù Qúshā Xiānrén). Countless Rishis praised in unison. Yixia Lin (Yǐxià Lín) held his hand, and the Buddha-fields appeared before him, realizing true and pure wisdom. Freely contracting and expanding, he obtained the Dharma Gate of the Unsurpassed Banner (Wúshèng Zhuàng Fǎmén, Dharma Gate of the Unsurpassable Banner), and attained the stage of the Youthful Dwelling. Ode: Rishi Vimu descended from the jeweled bed, Motou (Mótóu) held his hand to see the extraordinary auspiciousness, the Buddha realms of the ten directions appeared simultaneously, the myriad phenomena suddenly manifested like stars scattered across the sky. The unsurpassed wonderful banner rises with auspicious colors, the treasury of Vairocana (Zhēnà, i.e., Vairocana Buddha) reveals spiritual light, yet he returned to his original seat to seek the truth, and felt that his lifelong views had grown. Sudhana Kumara, on his tenth pilgrimage, arrived at the Isha Hamlet (Yīshā Jùluò) and visited the Ascetic Brahman Victorious Heat (Shèngrè Póluómén). He scorched his body with five heats. Sudhana Kumara's mind generated doubts, and the devas praised together. Victorious Heat Brahman immediately regretted his faults, directly climbed the mountain of knives, and threw himself into the fire pile, obtaining the Dharma Gate of the Inexhaustible Wheel (Wújìn Lún Fǎmén, Dharma Gate of the Inexhaustible Wheel), and attained the stage of the Prince Dwelling. 善財童子第十二次前往三眼國,參訪善見比丘。頭頂(本經作頸)有三道圓光,光芒一尋。胸前有萬字標誌,手掌有金輪。

善財童子第十三次前往名聞河渚中,參訪自在童子。八部龍天在空中告知,一萬個童子快樂地一起玩沙。精通工巧方術、經商種田、算術印章。獲得工巧大神通智法門,證得饒益行。

Sudhana (Shàncái Tóngzǐ) , on his eleventh pilgrimage, went to Simhavijrmbhita City (Shīzi Fènxùn Chéng) to visit the maiden Bhadra (Cí Tóngnǚ). In the Lion Palace, the Dragon-Victorious Heavenly Garments, in each and every vessel, the Buddhas appear in reflection. Able to realize the realms of knowledge and wisdom understood by all practices, attaining the Prajnaparamita (Bōrě Bōluómìduō) Dharma gate, realizing the Abhisheka (Guàndǐng) stage.
Eulogy: Riding cranes and clouds, entering the imperial land, Gradually observing the true realm, increasingly immeasurable. In the city of Suani (Suāní, mythical lion), the voice and appearance are beautiful, The Dragon-Victorious throne is high, the elegant rhyme is long. Each and every vessel contains Buddha-lands, Within the layers of reflections, divine light appears. Thousands of doors and myriad households open this morning, Countless Parala (Bōluó) flowers bloom, filling the hall.
Sudhana, on his twelfth pilgrimage, went to the Land of Three Eyes (Sānyǎn Guó) to visit the Bhikshu Shubhadrashana (Shànjiàn Bǐqiū). On the crown of his head (the sutra says neck) are three circles of light, each a fathom in diameter. On his chest is the Svastika (Wànzì) symbol, and on his palms are golden wheels.
Manifesting. Following the opportunity, following the Dharma. Without thought, without illumination. Attaining the Dharma gate of Following the Lamp, realizing the Joyful Conduct.

Then one knows to seek friends in the Land of Three Eyes, Suddenly seeing my teacher, his light a fathom in diameter. Thirty-eight rivers revere the Buddha's work, Hearing the sound of the tide for hundreds of millions of kalpas. Why must one care about being young when renouncing the world? A moment of wasted time, the years pass too deeply.
Sudhana, on his thirteenth pilgrimage, went to the shore of the Famous River (Míngwén Hé Zhǔ zhōng) to visit the boy Indriyeshvara (Zìzài Tóngzǐ). The Eight Classes of Dragons and Devas announce in the sky, ten thousand boys happily play in the sand together. Skilled in crafts, arts, commerce, agriculture, arithmetic, and seals. Attaining the Dharma gate of the Great Wisdom of Skillful Means, realizing the Conduct of Benefiting Others.

Innumerable, endlessly revolving, Aryuta (a large number) counting Laksha (one hundred thousand). What use are skillful writing, arithmetic, and seals? Medicine, divination, commerce, and agriculture are not worth boasting about. If one can comprehend the Great Wisdom Light, then all the stars and moon in the sky belong to the royal family. Sudhana (善財童子) for the fourteenth time arrived in the city of Hai Zhu (海住城), and paid homage to Bhikshuni Zu (足優婆夷). She spread out ten billion seats, accommodating immeasurable people. From a small vessel, immeasurable treasures emerged, satisfying all who came from all directions. Sudhana obtained the inexhaustible Dharma-treasure gate of blessings and virtues, and attained the irreversible practice. Eulogy: The city of Hai Zhu stands tall, with a rich auspicious aura, and even more to see are the extraordinary events, endless and infinite. Know that within the vague and obscure, there are mysteries beyond thousands of kinds, all originating from that subtle single vessel. The Four Sages (possibly referring to Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas) impart the opportunity, achieving the holy fruit, the Six Realms (gods, humans, asuras, animals, hungry ghosts, hell beings) after eating, escape the cage of the mundane. Shaolin Temple has a truly unique flavor, the fragrance of flowers and fruits fills the trees, a vibrant red. Sudhana for the fifteenth time arrived in the city of Da Xing (大興城), and paid homage to Upasaka Ming Zhi (明智居士). He was on a high platform, looking up at the sky, all kinds of treasures falling in profusion, whether rich or poor, all received wealth and Dharma. Sudhana obtained the Dharma-treasure gate of spontaneous birth, and attained the unyielding practice. Eulogy: All phenomena are clear and bright, without a speck of dust, Upasaka Ming Zhi is on the high platform. The poor seeking wealth come in droves, the virtuous listening to the Dharma come in layers. Giving objects appropriately and timely, the path of the heart is far-reaching, the birth of treasures is spontaneous, the treasure gate opens. All kinds of things fall from the sky, countless humans and gods return satisfied and warm. Sudhana for the sixteenth time arrived in the city of Shi Zi Gong (師子宮城), and paid homage to Elder Bao Ji (寶髻長者). The elder held Sudhana's hand to view the residence, layers upon layers of exquisite pavilions, seeing the beings of the Ten Realms.

A Verse in Praise: Holding hands, return home to see the skills, Sudhana (Shancai) grows in power at first sight. Peering from the top of the ten-layered pavilion, the Tathagatas of the three worlds are at the highest level. Today, in the human realm, wonderful fruits are achieved, from the incense and lamps offered at the Buddha's place in the past. If you consider this matter extraordinary, you would fail to appreciate the ten-thousand-year-old vine of Nanshan.
Sudhana (Shancai Tongzi) went to the country of Tenggen for the seventeenth time to visit the Elder Puyan (Puyan Zhangzhe). He harmonized incense and medicine, regulated body and mind, exercised equal compassion, and benefited immeasurable beings. All beings are delivered, all Buddhas are seen, attaining the Dharma gate of universal joy of seeing all Buddhas, and realizing the practice of good manifestation.
A Verse in Praise: Entering the country of Tenggen, the road is vast and indistinct, where does the universal gate and universal eye lead? Body and mind are peaceful and without illness, the harmony of incense and medicine has a special method. The delicacies of Chan joy are equally distributed with grace, fine clothing and upper garments are equally shared.
If you seek to see Buddhas born from dust motes, carefully taste the flavor of Paramita.
Sudhana (Shancai Tongzi) went to the country of Duoluochuang for the eighteenth time to visit King Wuyanzu (Wuyanzu Wang). He was summoned into the palace to carefully observe good and evil, demonstrating taming and subduing, causing him to cultivate meritorious deeds, understanding that birth is like illusion and illusion is like birth, attaining the Dharma gate of illusion, and realizing the practice of non-attachment.
A Verse in Praise: The king of Chuang summons him into the deep palace with one decree, the affairs of the phoenix pavilion and dragon court are not the same.
Swords and halberds, mountains of knives, become wonderful functions, cauldrons of boiling water and charcoal braziers manifest divine power. False words and evil tongues must be cut off, killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct are strictly forbidden.

善財童子第二十次來到安住城,參訪不動優婆夷(Acala Upasika)。凡是被她的光芒觸及的人,立刻感到清涼,經歷無數劫都不會生起慾望之心。
種種殊勝的佛法,都能在一智中無礙通達。善財童子從她那裡得到了求法無厭法門,證得了善法行。

不動優婆夷的相貌美好,世間罕見。她正是當年的那位女子。過去劫中遇到無垢佛(Vimala Buddha),至今修成了有為之身。多少生在慾海中澄清波浪,一片心田沒有一點塵埃。求法既然沒有休止,美麗的容顏也就不值得珍惜了。
善財童子第二十一次來到都薩羅城(Tosala),參訪遍行外道(Paritrana)。遍行外道在山頂上緩緩行走,色相圓滿光明。十千天人和九十六種外道,都在觀察他的根器和機緣。他無所依賴,也無所作為。善財童子從他那裡得到了一切處菩薩行法門,證得了真實行。

Sudhana Kumara, on his nineteenth pilgrimage, visited Mahaprabha Raja (Great Light King) in Myuraka City. The Great Light King entered the Samadhi of Manifestation, realizing all-knowing wisdom. Various Dharmas manifested, surrounded by devas. His noble lineage was magnificent, inspiring endless admiration. Sudhana obtained the Dharma-gate of the Great Compassion Banner from him, attaining the practice of difficult achievement.
A verse of praise says:
The city of a hundred treasures shines with fresh sights. Again, we see the king in deep meditation, perfectly complete. Mountains, rivers, plants, and trees all revolve with him; birds, beasts, fish, and dragons all appear before him. He gathers and holds countless beings with the Dharma; how many heavens are there of devoted protectors? To transmit the Dharma is truly rare; even the Bodhisattvas of the Ten Bhumis and the Three Worthies cannot compare.
Sudhana Kumara, on his twentieth pilgrimage, visited Acala Upasika (Immovable Laywoman) in Anavatita City. Those touched by her light immediately felt coolness, and would not generate desire even after countless kalpas.
All kinds of supreme Dharmas are unobstructed in one wisdom. Sudhana obtained the Dharma-gate of Seeking Dharma Without Satiety from her, attaining the practice of good Dharma.
A verse of praise says:
The laywoman's appearance is beautiful, rare in the world. She is precisely that woman from long ago. In past kalpas, she met Vimala Buddha (Stainless Buddha), and has now attained a conditioned body. In how many lives has she cleared the waves of the sea of desire, her heart-field without a speck of dust. Since her seeking of Dharma has not ceased, she does not begrudge her youthful beauty.
Sudhana Kumara, on his twenty-first pilgrimage, visited Paritrana (Wandering Ascetic) in Tosala City. The Wandering Ascetic walked slowly on the mountaintop, his form radiant and bright. Ten thousand devas and ninety-six kinds of heretics were observing his capacity and potential. He was without reliance and without action. Sudhana obtained the Dharma-gate of the Bodhisattva's Practice in All Places from him, attaining the practice of truth.

Searching for him in the city at dusk, then going outside the city to find him in the middle of the night. His brilliant aura condenses on the green peaks, his radiant form walks among the white clouds. He manifests bodies according to the different kinds of beings,

【English Translation】 One by one, expounding the Dharma according to the occasion, yet unheard.
Within the dust motes of east, west, south, and north, all the heretics and demons emerge in droves. Sudhana (善財童子) at the age of twenty-two, went to the country of Great Extent, to visit the Elder Utpaladeva (優缽羅華長者, meaning Blue Lotus). He collected various precious fragrances and blended them into a single flavor, transforming auspicious omens that universally perfumed the entire Dharma Realm, enabling those who smelled the fragrance to obtain the fragrance of the Dharmakaya (法身, Dharma body), acquire the Dharma-gate of harmonizing fragrances, and realize the dedication of being apart from the characteristics of sentient beings. A verse in praise says: The Utpaladeva blooms towards the sun, the flavors of the entire sky enter the spiritual altar.
The fragrances of Snow Mountain and Ox Head are all collected, the treasures of Elephant Treasury and Dragon Palace are all gathered. A single incense stick universally perfumes, transforming into rain and dew, auspicious omens rise in the ten directions, accompanied by wind and thunder. My family does not need the method of harmonizing fragrances, it naturally spreads its fragrance throughout the nine regions. Sudhana (善財童子) at the age of twenty-three, went to the city of Tower Pavilions, to visit the Ship Captain Bhisma (船師婆施羅, meaning Terrible). He and all the merchants discussed treasures together, jointly estimated the depth of the ocean, observed the moon and stars from afar, understood the past, and knew the future, obtaining the Dharma-gate of the Great Compassion Banner, and realizing the indestructible dedication.
A verse in praise says: Throughout his life, he makes a living gathering in the tower, merchants coming and going, mooring at the ancient shore. When seagulls and egrets pass, the smartweed by the river is tender, after the swallows and geese return, white duckweed blooms in autumn. In the azure sky, there is a moon searching for pearl bays, in the vast ocean, there is no wind reaching the treasure island. Rowing oars and paddling sculls, where are the guests from? The sails entering the clouds, drifting far away. Sudhana (善財童子) at the age of twenty-four, went to the city of Delight, to visit the Elder Anuttarajaya (無上勝長者, meaning Supreme Victory). The Elder managed worldly affairs in the Worry-Free Forest, the eight classes of dragons and gods, everything.
人畜無貪無嗔無斗無諍。得一切處無作神通法門。證等一切佛迴向。

十有餘年四海游 因尋上勝到無憂 幾多魔畜貪瞋息 八部龍天斗諍休 一切處修菩薩行 三千世界鬼神愁 秪因成就如斯力 喚得勞生盡轉頭

善財童子第二十六次前往險難國中,參訪婆須蜜女(Vasumitrā)。顯現出真正的金色,身體發出光明。有時顯現,有時觸碰,沒有污染,沒有執著。瞭解色、受、想、行、識皆是空性,都獲得道果。獲得遠離貪慾際的法門。證得功德藏迴向。

【English Translation】 English version: People and animals are without greed, without hatred, without strife, and without contention. They obtain the Dharma gate of effortless supernatural powers in all places. They attain the dedication equal to all Buddhas.
Praise says:
For more than ten years, I traveled the four seas, seeking the supreme and reaching the place of no sorrow. How many demons and animals have ceased their greed and hatred, and the eight classes of dragons and gods have stopped their strife and contention. Practicing the Bodhisattva path in all places, the ghosts and spirits of the three thousand worlds are filled with sorrow. Only because of achieving such power, it calls the toiling beings to turn their heads.
Sudhana (Śreṣṭhidāraka) for the twenty-fifth time went to the country of Suna, to visit the Bhikshuni Śīghanapraśrabdhi (師子顰呻比丘尼). In the Sunlight Garden of King Myosho (妙勝光王), there are springs flowing with the eight virtues and precious trees with hundreds of flowers. Everywhere they appear, each showing their own body. He obtains the Dharma gate of accomplishing all wisdom. He attains the dedication of all places.
Praise says:
The Bhikshuni has already obtained the mind-born body, going everywhere in the dust worlds to instruct people. The springs and pools are filled with spiritual energy, possessing the eight virtues, the precious trees and hundreds of flowers in the garden are all new. Everywhere they appear, reflecting the mirror of the mind, each turning the Dharma wheel according to what is appropriate.
For many kalpas, she has been able to roar like a lion, yet who knows where she is groaning.
Sudhana (Śreṣṭhidāraka) for the twenty-sixth time went to the country of Dangerous Difficulties, to visit the woman Vasumitra (婆須蜜女). She manifests true golden color, her body emits light. Sometimes appearing, sometimes touching, without defilement, without attachment. Understanding that form, feeling, thought, action, and consciousness are all empty, all attain the fruit of the path. He obtains the Dharma gate of leaving the boundary of greed. He attains the dedication of the treasury of merit.
Praise says:
Meeting and asking, what is the cause? The noble conduct is like a precious coin of the Tathagata.
Holding hands and embracing, the mind is as calm as the moon, kissing the lips and touching the tongue, the precepts are as round as pearls. Humans or non-humans, women all appear according to conditions, the forms of gods and goddesses should not be biased. The three virtues are already clear, leaving the boundary of greed, the intoxicated immortals in the wine towers and flower caves.

【English Translation】 English version Sudhana went to the city of Seven Reaches of Goodness and visited the layman Viseṣṭhila (鞞瑟胝羅). The Tathāgata's (如來) stupa (塔) opened, revealing a sandalwood (栴檀) seat, and hundreds of thousands of Buddhas came to this place. Those who had not entered nirvāṇa (涅槃) were there only to tame sentient beings. Sudhana obtained the Dharma gate of not entering final nirvāṇa and attained the dedication of good roots.
Eulogy: Mountains and rivers overlap, making the journey difficult, but upon arriving here, one feels joyful and uplifted. The layman Viseṣṭhila is as full as the moon, and the sandalwood stupa is as vast as the sky. One only sees the Buddhas manifesting in various forms to tame sentient beings, but does not see the Tathāgata entering nirvāṇa. In the state of samādhi (三昧), one spontaneously attains perfect enlightenment (samyak-saṃbodhi), and sees the countless lands of the ten directions in the palm of one's hand.
Sudhana, for the twenty-eighth time, went to Mount Potalaka (補陀落迦) and visited the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (觀自在). The assembly of Bodhisattvas each sat on jewels, like full moons, together proclaiming the sound of compassion, speaking of being free from fear, and appropriately guiding and transforming sentient beings. Sudhana obtained the Dharma gate of great compassionate practice and attained the dedication of according with sentient beings.
Eulogy: Seeking along the western mountain under the rocks, the vajra (金剛) jewels shine like the autumn moon. Sudhana earnestly asks, inquiring of Avalokiteśvara how to cultivate. May all sentient beings be free from fear, and may hundreds of thousands of different kinds be equally tamed. Entering samādhi through hearing, thinking, and practice, even the barking of dogs and crowing of roosters do not cease.
Sudhana, for the twenty-ninth time, right there in the air, visited the Bodhisattva Samantagati (正趣). Samantagati emitted great light, overshadowing all other appearances. His feet pressed on the ground, causing six kinds of tremors. He passed through lands as numerous as dust motes, encountering immeasurable Buddhas. Sudhana obtained the Universal Gate of Swift Practice and attained the dedication of the aspect of Suchness (真如).
Eulogy: Majestically, this realm is in the great void, his body emits light that shines differently. The light of the sun, moon, and stars is overshadowed, and the faces of gods, humans, dragons, and ghosts become blurred. Never has any land been passed through in vain, and at every teacher's door, there is transformation and understanding.

Ode: The setting sun in the west emits light even in the night, As if the land of 'Kapilavastu' (the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha) shines with brilliance. Dense clouds and heavy fog spread across the flat land, Violent storms and torrential rain sweep through the vast expanse. Hanging the sun and moon in the darkness, Building bridges in dangerous places. Knowing that countless kalpas of practice are needed to achieve expedient means, Meeting today is truly a joyous occasion.
Sudhana visits the Bodhi field for the thirty-third time, consulting 'Purity Virtue Light Night-Shining Spirit'. He is proficient in the ten kinds of sacred wisdom, possesses the four Dhyana Samadhi minds, Deeply understands the majestic light of the Three Jewels, and discerns the Five Contemplations to Stop the Mind. Opens the door to renunciation, points out the right path, Obtains the 'Dharma Gate of Universal Wandering', and attains the 'Ground of Freedom from Defilement' (the second stage of a Bodhisattva's path).
Ode: Rejoicing that seeking a teacher does not require a distant search, Hearing the Dharma sounds without leaving the Bodhi field. Reflecting on the wonderful Dharma heard in the past, It is not as profound as the understanding gained tonight. Obtains the 'Dharma Gate of Great Power Universal Joy Banner', and attains the 'Ground of Radiance' (the third stage of a Bodhisattva's path).

In every thought, the ocean of thoughts is born and generated, In every body, appearances are shown, manifesting clouds of bodies. The subtlety of the wisdom of others' minds, wisdom is not wisdom, The hearing penetration of the heavenly ear, hearing is not hearing. How many kalpas of diligence have been spent seeking great use, And now the power suddenly surpasses the multitude.

The realm of the mind is manifested layer upon layer, and the Buddha's light is gradually known. How is the wonderful eye different from my body? There is no doubt about the Treasure King Maitreya. Where are Samantabhadra and Puyan now? Snow fills the long sky and flowers fill the branches. Sudhana, on his thirty-sixth visit, in the Bodhimanda, called upon the Night Goddess Silent Sound Ocean (Shijing Yin Hai Zhu Ye Shen). In every moment, he gives rise to boundless joy. He initiates the Dharma meaning of the immeasurable great compassion Dharma treasury, like clouds and like the sea. He obtains the Dharma gate of giving rise to vast joy and adornment. He attains the Manifest Ground. Ode: A million asamkhya of monks surround the body, and new lotuses emerge from the Mani banner seat. From the beginning, joy is born in every moment, and the mind that arises is true in every place. I see and contemplate immeasurable realms, forming clouds and seas with past causes. Briefly speaking, how many teachers and friends are encountered? The Tathagatas of the two lands are old acquaintances. Sudhana, on his thirty-seventh visit, went to the assembly of the Tathagata and called upon the Night Goddess Protecting All Cities (Shouhu Yiqie Cheng Zhu Ye Shen). Universally manifesting colored bodies, she expounds the Buddha Dharma treasury. The wisdom of hearing, thinking, and cultivating secretly meets the needs of all beings. She causes all sentient beings to guard the city of their minds. She obtains the Dharma gate of the profound and unhindered wonderful sound. She attains the Difficult to Conquer Ground. Ode: In the light of the jeweled seat, bodies are universally manifested, and the Buddha treasury is opened again to benefit the people. I contemplate the boundless expanse of the Dharma realm; who believes that Dharani benefits people? The Dharma wheel of practice is repeatedly expounded, and the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and cultivating is proclaimed again.

善財童子第三十九次前往道場中,參訪大愿精進力救護眾生主夜神(Mahāpraṇidhānavīryabalavatī-trāṇajanatā-rātridevatā)。她隨機應變,隨眾生的根器顯現不同的形象,能以一身化為多身,她的妙色妙智如同日月般光明。普遍救度罪人,使他們獲得清凈的心眼,得到教化眾生,使他們生起善根的法門,證得不動地(Acala)。

善財童子第四十次前往毗嵐園中,參訪妙德圓滿主夜神(Suprabhāsā-sampūrṇā-rātridevatā)。她普遍觀察十方一切諸佛降生,往昔是佛的乳母,如今是毗嵐園的主人。領悟受生藏,生於如來之家,得到受生自在。
【English Translation】 English version: The wonderful sound, though played on a barbarian's instrument, the tune is fresh like 'Yangchun Snow'.
Sudhana (Śreṣṭhidāraka) in his thirty-eighth pilgrimage, went to the Buddha's assembly and consulted Kāyaprasāriṇī-vikurvita-kusuma-prabhā-rātridevatā (The Night Goddess Spreading Flowers). She manifests bodies according to the minds of beings, universally enabling them to see the lotus covering and protecting them from dangerous and evil paths, rescuing sentient beings, causing them to cut off the net of love and desire, attain the Dharma gate of birth of vast joy and bright light, and realize the Dūraṅgama (Far-Going Ground).
Eulogy says:
Flowers bloom in the darkness, all protected and guided home, not allowing them to be driven on dangerous roads.
After the net of ignorance is destroyed by the sword, the dense forest of greed and attachment is crushed by the pestle. The King of Wisdom Mountain rises like the sun, when the Jewel Light Maiden aspires to enlightenment. Calculating, it has been many kalpas, it is deeply wonderful to meet in the Far-Going Ground.
Sudhana in his thirty-ninth pilgrimage, went to the Bodhimaṇḍa and consulted Mahāpraṇidhānavīryabalavatī-trāṇajanatā-rātridevatā (The Night Goddess Saving Beings with Great Vow and Vigorous Power). She adapts to circumstances and manifests different forms according to the capacities of beings, able to transform one body into many bodies, her wonderful form and wisdom are as bright as the sun and moon. She universally saves sinners, enabling them to obtain pure hearts and eyes, and attain the Dharma gate of teaching and transforming beings, causing them to generate good roots, and realize the Acala (Immovable Ground).
Eulogy says:
The prince saved sinners in the past, and now universally manifests one and many bodies. Ten thousand faithful ones have hearts free from defilement, hundreds of millions of nayutas have eyes free from dust. Her wonderful form is as clear as the stillness of autumn, her wheel of wisdom is as bright as the new sun. After the Jewel Light Buddha emerged from the forest, how many times have we seen the Udumbara flower bloom?
Sudhana in his fortieth pilgrimage, went to the Vīraṇa Garden and consulted Suprabhāsā-sampūrṇā-rātridevatā (The Night Goddess of Perfect Light). She universally observes the descent of all Buddhas in the ten directions, in the past she was the wet nurse of the Buddha, and now she is the master of the Vīraṇa Garden. She understands the womb of birth, born into the family of the Tathāgata, and attains freedom in receiving birth.

A verse of praise says: Meeting you, who directly speaks of the causes of beings' birth, One then becomes a member of the Tathagata's (Buddha's) family. In a single thought, one fully beholds Buddhas as numerous as dust particles, The ten directions together gaze upon the descending majestic power. If you wish to know who is the master of the garden today, It is the wet nurse of that year. There is another scene never seen in the world, With each step, a new flower blooms.
Sudhana (boy of wealth) for the forty-first time went to the Dharma Realm Lecture Hall to visit the Shakyas' Gopa (cowherd girl), ten thousand palace deities came together to greet and praise, manifesting the Dharma as it is. The past cause and condition was the Buddha's Bodhi wisdom seed in the Fragrant Tusk Garden. He obtained the Samadhi Ocean Dharma Gate of Observation and attained the Dharmamegha-bhumi (cloud of dharma).
A verse of praise says: Because of wandering in the Dharma Realm Lecture Hall, Meeting Gopa, who is different from others. She fully speaks of the myriad things before one's eyes, And also says of the many merits of countless kalpas (aeons). The Dharma cloud gently extends over the mountains, The net of teachings is spread throughout the empty space.
Examining human life becomes a laughable matter, The apricot blossoms in the Fragrant Tusk Garden are red.
Sudhana for the forty-second time went to this world to visit the Buddha's mother, Holy Queen Maya (illusion), sitting on a jeweled lotus in a great tower, her appearance dignified and her majestic light prominent. In every thought, a Buddha is born, and in every life, she acts as a mother. He obtained the Dharma Gate of Great Vow Wisdom Illusory Birth.
A verse of praise says: How should I approach to inquire? The Rakshasa (demon) guarding the hall repeatedly states.
Looking from afar at the layers of wonderful towers, Suddenly seeing that each lotus leaf is new. In every thought, vowing to be the mother of all Buddhas, In every life, manifesting as the body of a queen. Pitiable is the heart's capacity, vast and inclusive, Encompassing all the people of the world as numerous as dust particles.
Sudhana for the forty-third time went to the Trayastrimsa Heaven (thirty-three heavens) to visit the Goddess Light (Devi), serving Buddhas as numerous as dust particles for countless kalpas, upholding the Buddha's teachings without ever forgetting, possessing...

善財童子第四十四次前往迦毗羅城(釋迦牟尼佛的故鄉)。參訪童子師遍友(一位知識淵博的導師)。遍友立即指引方向,卻不發一言。這顯示了無法之法才是真法,真法是無法的道理。
得到就是得到,空過此處難以開啟前程。過去只是聽聞他的名聲,今天終於見面。
贊曰: 不遠萬里互相尋訪卻不說話,卻說他得到了全部的藝能。 求人如果都像這樣,我這一生難道是偶然? 如果說傳道是朋友間的妄說,那麼名師的規範也是虛傳。 已經傾盡肝膽來尋訪善知識,料想前面一定還有因緣。
善財童子第四十五次不離開所處的地方。參訪善知眾藝童子(一位精通各種技藝的導師)。善知眾藝童子以無礙的智慧窮盡世間的技藝,唱誦各種字母進入各種法門。鳥獸的聲音、雲霞的氣候,都使他獲得了善知眾藝菩薩的字智法門。
贊曰: 聽說我的老師精通各種技藝,如今相見,請您嘗試宣講。 『阿多波者』,言語真實可信,『縒[牛*羅]迦陀』,字字都詮釋明白。 四十二字母門流佈之後,三千世界古今都在傳揚。
大光明智慧是什麼樣的呢?就像雲彩消散,長空中的月亮一樣。
【English Translation】 English version: Increasingly, compassion and wisdom are invariably present. He obtained the Dharma gate of unobstructed thought, purity, and adornment.
A Gatha: The lord of the thirty-three heavens (the ruler of the heavens), who knows in what age the karmic connections were formed? The initial aspiration was awakened from the realm of the blue lotus, and fulfillment was attained in the light of the wondrous moon. Diligently cultivating for countless kalpas, and feeling that practice has continued for many years. People in Jambudvipa (the world we live in) ask each other, and all Dharmas are now manifest before them.
Sudhana (a youth seeking enlightenment) for the forty-fourth time went to Kapilavastu (the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha). He visited the teacher of youths, Veprayu (a knowledgeable teacher). Veprayu immediately pointed the way but did not utter a word. This shows that the Dharma of no-Dharma is the true Dharma, and the true Dharma is the principle of no-Dharma.
To obtain is to obtain; passing through here makes it difficult to start the journey ahead. In the past, I only heard of his name; today, I finally meet him.
A Gatha: Traveling thousands of miles to seek each other without a word, yet saying that he has obtained all the arts and skills. If seeking people is always like this, is my life just a coincidence? If saying that transmitting the Dharma is just idle talk between friends, then the norms of a famous teacher are also falsely transmitted. Having exhausted my heart and soul to seek a wise teacher, I expect that there must be a karmic connection ahead.
Sudhana for the forty-fifth time did not leave where he was. He visited the youth, Samantabhadra (a teacher skilled in all arts). Samantabhadra exhausted the worldly arts with unobstructed wisdom, chanting various letters to enter various Dharma gates. The sounds of birds and animals, the clouds and weather, all enabled him to obtain the wisdom of letters of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra.
A Gatha: Hearing that my teacher is proficient in all arts, now that we meet, please try to expound them. 'A-ta-po-ja', words are true and reliable; 'Sa-[niu*luo]-jia-tuo', every word is explained clearly. After the forty-two letter gates are spread, the three thousand worlds have transmitted them from ancient times to the present.
What is the great bright wisdom like? It is like the clouds dispersing, and the moon in the long sky.

善財童子第四十六詣婆呾那城。參 賢勝優婆夷。心自開解利樂眾生。眼耳鼻舌身意智性出生功德。普現光明。得無依處道場法門。

自開自解自為人 便向紅塵利有情

【English Translation】 English version Sudhana visited Bhadrottama in Bhadra as his forty-sixth teacher. His mind naturally opened, enabling him to benefit and bring joy to sentient beings. From his eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind, and intellect, meritorious qualities arose, universally manifesting light. He attained the Anāśraya-sthāna-bodhimaṇḍa-dharmamukha (the Dharma-gate of the Ground of Enlightenment of the State of No-support).
A verse in praise says: He awakens himself, liberates himself, and teaches others, then turns to the world to benefit sentient beings.
Eyes, ears, and nose contain a gathering of merits, tongue, body, and mind manifest the light of wisdom. Able to give birth, able to leave, the courtyard is quiet, endless and without reliance, the realm is clear. Comprehending the perfect place of the Bodhimaṇḍa, one's body is sharp as a sword, bringing peace to the world.
Sudhana visited Dṛḍhamokṣa in Wotian city as his forty-seventh teacher. For hundreds of thousands of kalpas, he diligently sought the true Dharma in the presence of the Buddhas of the ten directions, never resting. He roared like a great lion, possessing a great accumulation of merit and wisdom, and attained the Asakta-smṛti-viśuddha-alaṃkāra-dharmamukha (the Dharma-gate of Pure Adornment of Unattached Mindfulness).
A verse in praise says: Diligent people are rare, lazy people are many, the teacher's diligence and the path of Dharma are perfectly in harmony. In the presence of the Buddhas of the ten directions, there is no rest, for hundreds of kalpas, the body and mind have experienced much tempering. After the clouds have dispersed from the ten-thousand-foot peak, a crane comes to rest on the top of the thousand-fathom pine. Pitying himself for being in the world yet maintaining purity, flowers fall, and green sedge grows in the idle courtyard.
Sudhana visited Su-candra in this city as his forty-eighth teacher. Su-candra did not discuss the meaning of the Dharma, but merely indicated his name, showing that in non-attainment there is also no non-attainment.
In this non-attainment, there is also no non-attainment, this is what is called true attainment. He attained the Viśuddha-jñāna-prabhāsa-dharmamukha (the Dharma-gate of Pure Wisdom Light).
A verse in praise says: The noble Su-candra points to another, the previous good friends were all missed in vain. Reflecting on these two places, there are few words,
卻笑諸方路布多 悲焰明輝休語會 智光解脫是如何 君今不為通訊息 白玉無瑕自琢磨
善財童子第四十九詣出生城。參 無勝軍長者。垂示二法。而為開誘。見無量佛。得無盡藏。悟其所以。實亦省逕。得無盡相法門。

迢遙遠入出生城 鬧市門頭話道情 多謝吾師言兩句 卻深思我路千程 得無量藏因誰悟 見盡高人合自明

Sudhana (善財童子) made his forty-ninth pilgrimage to the City of Birth (Janaka-pura), where he visited the Elder Vimoksha-sena (無勝軍長者). The elder revealed two dharmas, using them to guide and enlighten Sudhana, enabling him to see countless Buddhas and obtain the inexhaustible treasury of dharma, understanding the reasons behind it, truly taking a shortcut. Sudhana thus attained the Gate of the Dharma of Inexhaustible Characteristics. Ode: Far away, entering the City of Birth, Talking about the feelings of the Way at the gate of the bustling market. Sudhana (善財童子) made his fiftieth pilgrimage to the village south of this city, where he visited the Most Silent Brahmin (Atanta). Sudhana thus attained the Gate of the Dharma of Sincere Vows. Ode: The dharma gate in the village south of the city seems low, Hearing the vows, one is delighted and not confused. Acting at will, everywhere is fulfilled, No regression, no future regression, the purpose is the same. 【English Translation】 English version: A Gatha:
Virtue and life harmoniously blend, together in illusion, vitality boundless, inexhaustible. Dwelling together, cultivating together, ultimately achieving liberation, together in compassion, together in wisdom, manifesting inconceivable functions. Same affinity, same thoughts, minds secretly unite, same views, same principles, wisdom penetrates. If one wishes to attain Buddhahood in one lifetime, the Vairocana (meaning 'universally illuminating') Pavilion is in the South.
Sudhana (Śreṣṭhidāraka) for the fifty-second time visited the Vairocana Treasury Pavilion, calling on Maitreya Bodhisattva (meaning 'the benevolent one'). He stood before the gate, arriving from afar, prostrated and entered to view the wonderful realm.
Layer upon layer reflected, all Buddhas fully manifest. Once out, the door closes again, beyond the reach of thought. He obtained the Dharma gate of attaining Buddhahood in one lifetime, the realm of the three times.
A Gatha:
Standing for a moment before the pavilion gate, the host of the Nāgapuṣpa (the tree under which Maitreya will attain enlightenment) Assembly returns from afar. Not only snapping fingers to view the profound mystery, but also listening to the compassionate voice, subtle and minute. Reason and action are like the sun and moon, the Bodhicitta (meaning 'the mind of enlightenment') is the pivot of the Way. Where do so many realms come from, and where do they go? Like a lone goose flying across ten thousand miles of sky.
Sudhana for the fifty-third time visited the Buddha assembly, calling on Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (meaning 'universal worthy'). Samantabhadra Bodhisattva was riding the White Elephant King, seated on a red lotus throne. Sudhana single-mindedly drew near, inquiring about the essentials of the Dharma. Wisdom and compassion were complete, practice and vows accomplished, and he immediately obtained the Buddha's virtues, manifesting like an ocean of fruition. He obtained Dharma gates of samādhi (meaning 'concentration') as numerous as dust motes in all Buddha lands.
A Gatha:
After traveling a hundred and one yojanas (an ancient Indian unit of distance), returning after receiving the touch on the crown of the head, single-mindedly desiring to see Samantabhadra. Samantabhadra Bodhisattva appears dignified on the red lotus throne, the white elephant is clearly seen. After kalpas (an extremely long period of time) like sands, wisdom and compassion are like the full sun, after practices and vows as minute as dust, they are truly perfected.
The Buddha's ocean of merit is repeatedly proclaimed, what is distressing is seeing the waves turning vast and boundless.
Chan Master Foguo (Buddha Country) used to reside at Turtle Temple, now resides in Phoenix City. Seeing Sudhana calling on all good advisors, with no end in sight. 'Tut!' Directly pointing to the human mind!
下承當豁然。休歇大用現前。

時光已是覺蹉跎 嗟爾平生跋涉多 五十餘人皆問訊 百重城郭盡經過

而今到此休分別 直下承當得也么 忽若更雲南北去 分明雞子過新羅

【English Translation】 English version: Immediately accepting, one will suddenly understand. Cease all activities, and the great function will manifest before you.
A verse in praise says: Time has already made one feel wasted; alas, you have traveled too much in your life. More than fifty people all come to inquire; you have passed through layer upon layer of city walls.
Now that you have arrived here, cease all discrimination. Directly accept; can you do it? If you still speak of going north or south, it is clearly as redundant as transporting eggs to Silla (an ancient Korean kingdom).
