我聞如是。釋迦牟尼佛悲門三昧觀眾生品本起經中說。佛從癸丑年七月七日入胎。至甲寅年四月八日生。至壬申年年十九。二月八日出家。至癸未年年三十。是臘月月八日得成道。至癸酉年年八十。二月十五日方便入涅槃。

正法從甲戌年至癸巳年。足滿五百歲止住。像法從甲午年至癸酉年足滿一千歲止住。末法從甲戌年至癸丑年足滿一萬歲止住。入末法過九千八百年後。月光菩薩出真丹國說法大度眾生。滿五十二年入涅槃后。首楞嚴經般舟三昧先滅不現。余經次第滅無量壽經在後得百年住。大度眾生然後滅去至大惡世。我今誓願持令不滅。教化眾生至彌勒佛出。佛從癸酉年入涅槃后。至未來賢劫初。彌勒成佛時有五十六億萬歲。我從末法初始立大誓願。修習苦行。如是過五十六億萬歲。必愿具足佛道功德見彌勒佛。如願中說入道之由莫不行愿。早修禪業少習弘經。中間障難事緣非一。略記本源兼發誓愿及造金字二部經典。

稽首歸命諸大菩薩。四十二地諸賢聖僧。

稽首歸命一切緣覺。聲聞學無學眾。

【English Translation】 English version The Vow of Great Dhyana Master Si of Nan Yue

Thus have I heard. In the Sūtra on the Original Cause of the Chapter on Contemplating Sentient Beings in the Samādhi of Compassion of Śākyamuni Buddha, it is said that the Buddha entered the womb on the seventh day of the seventh month of the year Gui Chou, was born on the eighth day of the fourth month of the year Jia Yin, left home on the eighth day of the second month at the age of nineteen in the year Ren Shen, attained enlightenment on the eighth day of the twelfth month at the age of thirty in the year Gui Wei, and expediently entered Nirvana on the fifteenth day of the second month at the age of eighty in the year Gui You.

The Dharma will abide in its Correct Form from the year Jia Xu to the year Gui Si, completing five hundred years. The Semblance Dharma will abide from the year Jia Wu to the year Gui You, completing one thousand years. The Dharma will abide in its Degenerate Form from the year Jia Xu to the year Gui Chou, completing ten thousand years. After nine thousand eight hundred years into the Degenerate Dharma, Bodhisattva Candraprabha (Moonlight Bodhisattva) will preach the Dharma in the country of Zhen Dan, greatly liberating sentient beings, and will enter Nirvana after fifty-two years. After that, the Śūraṅgama Sūtra and the Pratyutpanna Samādhi Sūtra will be the first to perish and disappear. The remaining sūtras will gradually perish, with the Amitāyus Sūtra being the last to perish, remaining for another hundred years, greatly liberating sentient beings before perishing and entering the age of great evil. Now I vow to uphold this sūtra so that it will not perish, and to teach sentient beings until the appearance of Maitreya Buddha. From the year Gui You when the Buddha entered Nirvana, to the beginning of the future Bhadrakalpa, when Maitreya attains Buddhahood, there will be five billion six hundred million years. I make this great vow from the beginning of the Degenerate Dharma, practicing asceticism. After five billion six hundred million years, I will surely fulfill the merits of the Buddha path and see Maitreya Buddha. As stated in the vows, the cause of entering the path is none other than practice and vows. In my early years, I practiced dhyana and studied and propagated the sūtras a little. The obstacles and circumstances in between were not just one or two. I briefly record the origin, make vows, and write two parts of the sūtras in golden letters.

I bow in reverence and take refuge in all the Buddhas of the ten directions.

I bow in reverence and take refuge in the twelve divisions of the scriptures.

I bow in reverence and take refuge in all the great Bodhisattvas and the virtuous and holy Sangha of the forty-two stages.

I bow in reverence and take refuge in all Pratyekabuddhas and Śrāvakas, both learners and non-learners.


又復。

稽首梵釋四王天龍八部。冥空善神護法大將。慧思自惟。有此神識無始已來。不種無漏善根。是故恒為愛見所牽。無明覆蔽致令虛妄。生死日增苦輪常轉未曾休息。往來五道橫使六識輪迴六趣。進不值釋迦出世。后復未蒙彌勒三會。居前後眾難之中。又藉往昔微善根力。釋迦末世得善人身。仰承聖教之所宣說。釋迦牟尼說法住世八十餘年。導利眾生化緣既訖便取滅度。滅度之後正法住世逕五百歲。正法滅已像法住世逕一千歲。像法滅已末法住世逕一萬年。我慧思即是末法八十二年。太歲在乙未十一月十一日。于大魏國南豫州汝陽郡武津縣生。至年十五出家修道。誦法華經及諸大乘。精進苦行至年二十。見世無常眾生多死。輒自思惟。此身無常苦空無有我人不得自在。生滅敗壞眾苦不息。甚可怖畏。世法如雲有為難信。其愛著者即為煩惱大火所燒。若棄捨者則至無為涅槃大樂。一切眾生迷失正道永無出心。我為眾生及為我身求解脫故。發菩提心立大誓願。欲求如來一切神通。若不自證何能度人。先學已證然後得行。自求道果為度十方無量眾生。為斷十方一切眾生諸煩惱故。為令十方無量眾生。通達一切諸法門故。為欲成就十方無量一切眾生菩提道故。求無上道為首楞嚴。遍歷齊國諸大禪師學摩訶衍。恒居

【English Translation】 English version: Furthermore, I, Huisi, bow my head in reverence to Brahma, Shakra (Indra, the lord of gods), the Four Heavenly Kings, the Eight Classes of Gods and Dragons (Devas, Nagas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Asuras, Garudas, Kinnaras, and Mahoragas), the benevolent spirits in the dark void, and the great Dharma-protecting generals. I, Huisi, reflect upon myself, that since beginningless time, I have not planted any undefiled roots of goodness. Therefore, I am constantly drawn by love and wrong views, and obscured by ignorance, leading to delusion. Birth and death increase daily, and the wheel of suffering constantly turns without rest. I travel through the five paths (hell, hungry ghosts, animals, humans, and asuras), and my six consciousnesses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and mind) are horizontally used to transmigrate through the six realms (hell, hungry ghosts, animals, asuras, humans, and heavens). I did not encounter Shakyamuni Buddha's appearance in the world, nor will I be able to attend Maitreya Buddha's three assemblies in the future. I dwell in the midst of difficult circumstances. Fortunately, relying on the power of slight good roots from the past, I obtained a good human body in the final age of Shakyamuni Buddha's Dharma, and I rely on the teachings proclaimed by the Holy One. Shakyamuni Buddha taught the Dharma and lived in the world for over eighty years, guiding and benefiting sentient beings. After the conditions for transformation were fulfilled, he entered Nirvana. After the Buddha's Nirvana, the Proper Dharma Age lasted for five hundred years. After the Proper Dharma Age ended, the Semblance Dharma Age lasted for one thousand years. After the Semblance Dharma Age ended, the Dharma Decline Age lasted for ten thousand years. I, Huisi, am in the eighty-second year of the Dharma Decline Age. The year is Yiwèi (乙未), the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and I was born in Wujin County, Ruyang Commandery, Nanyù Province of the Great Wei Kingdom. At the age of fifteen, I left home to cultivate the Way, reciting the Lotus Sutra and various Mahayana scriptures. I diligently practiced asceticism until the age of twenty. Seeing the impermanence of the world and the frequent deaths of sentient beings, I often contemplate: this body is impermanent, full of suffering, empty, without self, without person, not free, subject to birth, death, decay, and various sufferings that do not cease, which is truly frightening. Worldly dharmas are like clouds, and conditioned dharmas are difficult to believe. Those who are attached to love are burned by the great fire of afflictions; if one abandons love, one will reach the great bliss of unconditioned Nirvana. All sentient beings are lost in the wrong path and have no intention of liberation. For the sake of sentient beings and for my own liberation, I generate the Bodhi mind and make great vows, desiring to attain all the supernatural powers of the Tathagata. If I do not realize it myself, how can I liberate others? First learn and realize, then practice. I seek the fruit of the Way for myself in order to liberate countless sentient beings in the ten directions; to cut off all the afflictions of all sentient beings in the ten directions; to enable countless sentient beings in the ten directions to understand all the Dharma gates; to accomplish the Bodhi path of countless sentient beings in the ten directions, I seek the unsurpassed Way for the Shurangama Samadhi, traveling to various great Chan masters in the Qi kingdom to learn Mahayana, constantly residing


林野經行修禪。年三十四時在河南兗州界論義。故遭值諸惡比丘以惡毒藥令慧思食。舉身爛壞五臟亦爛。垂死之間而更得活。初意。欲渡河遍歷諸禪師。中路值此惡毒困藥。厭此言說知其妨道。即持余命還歸信州不復渡河。心心專念入深山中。欲去之間是時信州刺史。共諸守令苦苦留停。建立禪齋說摩訶衍義。頻經三年未曾休息。梁州許昌而復來請。又信州刺史復欲送啟。將歸鄴郡慧思意決不欲向北。心欲南行即便舍眾渡。向淮南山中停住。從年二十至三十八。恒在河南習學大乘。親覲供養諸大禪師。遊行諸州非一處住。是時國敕喚國內一切禪師入臺供養。慧思自量。愚無道德。不肯隨敕方便舍避。渡淮南入山至年三十九。是末法一百二十年。淮南郢州刺史劉懷寶共遊郢州山中。喚出講摩訶衍義。是時為義相答。故有諸法師起大瞋怒。有五人惡論師以生金藥置飲食中令慧思食。所有餘殘三人啖之一日即死。慧思於時身懷極困。得停七日氣命垂盡。臨死之際一心合掌向十方佛懺悔。念般若波羅蜜作如是言。不得他心智不應說法。如是念時生金毒藥。即得消除還更得差。從是已后數遭非一。年至四十是末法一百二十一年。在光州開岳寺。巴子立五百家共光州刺史。請講摩訶衍般若波羅蜜經一遍。至年四十一是末法一百二十

二年。在光州境大蘇山中。講摩訶衍義一遍。至年四十二是末法一百二十三年。在光州城西觀邑寺上。又講摩訶衍義一遍。是時多有眾惡論師。競來惱亂生嫉妒心。咸欲殺害毀壞般若波羅蜜義。我于彼時起大悲心念眾惡論師。即發誓愿作如是言。誓造金字摩訶般若及諸大乘。琉璃寶函奉盛經卷。現無量身於十方國土講說是經。令一切眾惡論師。鹹得信心住不退轉。至年四十三是末法一百二十四年。在南定州。刺史請講摩訶衍義一遍。是時多有眾惡論師。競起噁心作大惱亂。復作種種諸惡方便。斷諸檀越不令送食。經五十日唯遣弟子化得以濟身命。於時發願。我為是等及一切眾生。誓造金字摩訶衍般若波羅蜜一部。以凈琉璃七寶作函奉盛經卷。眾寶高座七寶帳蓋珠交露幔。華香瓔珞種種供具。供養般若波羅蜜。然後我當十方六道普現無量色身。不計劫數至成菩提。當爲十方一切眾生。講說般若波羅蜜經。於是中間若作法師如曇無竭。若作求法弟子如薩陀波侖。發願之後眾惡比丘皆悉退散。發此愿已即便教化作如是言。我造金字摩訶般若波羅蜜經。至年四十四是末法一百二十五年。太歲戊寅還於大蘇山光州境內。唱告諸方。我欲奉造金字摩訶般若波羅蜜經。須造經首誰能造者。時有一比丘名曰僧合而忽自來。作如是言。我

【English Translation】 English version It is possible to create the Prajna (Wisdom) in golden characters. Having obtained the scripture, he then propagated teachings in various states. The prefects and the local people, both monastic and lay, contributed their wealth to purchase gold for transcribing the scripture. Starting the propagation on the fifteenth day of the first month and continuing until the eleventh day of the eleventh month, at Qiguang Temple in Guangcheng County, Guangcheng Prefecture, Nanguang State, he finally fulfilled his wish to transcribe a complete copy of the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra (Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra) in golden characters, and crafted a crystal treasure box to contain it. At that time, he made a great vow, wishing that this golden-character Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra and the seven-jeweled box, by the power of this great vow, would be indestructible by all demons and various calamities. He wished that in the future, when Maitreya (Future Buddha) appears in the world, he would universally expound this Prajnaparamita Sutra for all immeasurable beings.

By the power of my vow and the golden characters, may the world adorned by Maitreya experience six kinds of tremors, causing the assembly to doubt and bow their heads to ask the Buddha, 'What is the cause of this great earthquake?' May the World-Honored One explain it in detail.' At that time, Maitreya Buddha told his disciples, 'You should all join your palms together with one mind, listen carefully, and believe sincerely. In the past, there was a Buddha named Sakyamuni (Founder of Buddhism) who appeared in the world and expounded this Prajnaparamita Sutra, widely delivering sentient beings. After that Buddha World-Honored One passed away, the Dharma and semblance Dharma have already passed, and the remaining Dharma dwells in the world. In the age of the degenerate Dharma, at this time, the world is evil, and the five turbidities arise together. People's lives are short, not even a hundred years, they practice the ten evil deeds and kill each other. At this time, the Prajnaparamita Sutra flourishes in the world. At that time, there was a bhiksu (Buddhist monk) named Huisi who transcribed this Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra, using gold for the characters, and using a crystal treasure box to contain this scripture, making a great vow, 'I shall deliver immeasurable sentient beings. In the future kalpa of the worthy ones, when Maitreya appears in the world and expounds this Maha Prajna Sutra, Paramita Sutra, I, by my vow.'

At that time, the World Honored Buddha told the assembly: 'You should know that this is due to the power of the vows of that Bhiksu (monk); the golden scripture treasure box is about to appear now.' The assembly reported to the Buddha: 'We wish that the World Honored One, with your divine powers, would allow us to see the golden scripture treasure box.' The Buddha said: 'You should wholeheartedly pay homage to the past Buddha Sakyamuni (the historical Buddha), and you should also wholeheartedly and attentively recite the Prajna Paramita Sutra (the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra).' When the Buddha spoke these words, the earth once again experienced six kinds of tremors, emitting great light, illuminating the immeasurable worlds in the ten directions. The fragrance was especially wonderful and surpassed sandalwood by hundreds of thousands of times. Those who smelled this fragrance all aroused the Bodhi mind (the mind of enlightenment). A lapis lazuli treasure box appeared before the assembly, which could only be seen with the eyes, and no one was able to open it. At this time, the assembly rejoiced and happily reported to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, how can we see the Prajna Sutra text?' Maitreya Buddha said: 'That scripture maker has great vows. You should wholeheartedly recite his name, and you will naturally be able to see it.' When these words were spoken, the entire assembly recited my name: 'Namo Huisi (Homage to Huisi)'. At this time, from the four directions, they emerged from the earth, filling the void, their bodies all golden, possessing the thirty-two marks, immeasurable light. At that very moment, all sentient beings were able to fully possess the sacred path of the Three Vehicles (Sravakayana, Pratyekabuddhayana, Bodhisattvayana), and even fully possess the Omniscience (sarva-jnana, the wisdom of knowing everything). If this vow is not fulfilled, I will not attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi ( unsurpassed perfect enlightenment). At that time, I will also transform myself and appear among them, manifesting as their retinue, calling them my disciples, subduing all kinds of demons, and destroying all kinds of heretics, so that those wise ones will gain great fame. At that time, I will also transform myself into the fourfold assembly (bhikshus, bhikshunis, upasakas, upasikas), appearing everywhere in forests, villages, and settlements, to protect them. Or I will transform into the form of a mighty ghost king, or a shramana (ascetic), or an upasaka (lay devotee), or a king, minister, or prime minister, ordering the country to punish all evil people who break the precepts. If there are those who are stubborn and do not repent, I will cause them to fall into Avici Hell (the most painful of the eight great hells), using all kinds of coercive means to make them change their minds, so that they will return to the one who preaches the Dharma, kowtow and beg for mercy, and become disciples before they can be released, turning all evil deeds into auspiciousness. Once they generate the Bodhi mind, all the filth and ugliness they see will become pure, and the seven treasures (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, tridacna, red pearl, agate) and beautiful fruits will be complete in due season, without the difference of the four seasons. The land they live in, the beings of gods and humans will all appear in the same golden color, complete with the thirty-two marks (the Buddha's thirty-two auspicious physical characteristics) and eighty minor marks (the Buddha's eighty minor perfections), possessing the six supernormal powers (divine eye, divine ear, knowledge of others' minds, knowledge of past lives, divine feet, extinction of outflows), without difference from the Buddha, except for the Buddha's wisdom, which no one can know. If sentient beings in the ten directions hear my name, uphold the precepts, diligently practice the Six Perfections (paramita, the six perfections to reach the other shore: generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom), receive and uphold my vows, and call upon my name, wishing to see my form, practicing for seven to twenty-one days. Then they will be able to see me, and all their good wishes will be fulfilled. If this is not so, may I not attain supreme perfect enlightenment (anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, unsurpassed, correct, and complete enlightenment).

Suppose I attain Buddhahood, if there are sentient beings in the ten directions who have committed the five heinous crimes (panchānantarya, patricide, matricide, killing an Arhat, disrupting the Sangha, and shedding the blood of a Buddha) and should fall into hell. At the time of their death, if they encounter a virtuous friend who teaches them to call upon my name. After hearing this, the sinners, with palms joined, continuously call upon my name. The light will shine universally, without sun or moon. If this is not so, may I not attain supreme perfect enlightenment.

If there are sentient beings in the great hells who hear my name, they will be liberated. If this is not so, may I not attain supreme perfect enlightenment.

If there are sentient beings who have fallen into the realm of hungry ghosts, experiencing hundreds of thousands of kalpas, and have not even heard the name of food or drink. They are constantly burned by the blazing fire of hunger, suffering great pain and affliction. If they hear my name, they will be satisfied. They will gain the power of right mindfulness, abandon the body of a hungry ghost, and be reborn in the human or heavenly realms. They will generate the Bodhicitta (bodhicitta, the mind that seeks enlightenment for the sake of all beings), and will not regress. If this is not so, may I not attain supreme perfect enlightenment.

If there are sentient beings who, due to evil karma, have fallen into the animal realm, suffering all kinds of pain. If they hear my name, all their suffering will be extinguished forever. They will attain a handsome and beautiful body in the human or heavenly realms. They will hear the true Dharma and possess the holy path. If there are sentient beings who are imprisoned in jail, suffering the torture of whips and lashes. If they call upon my name and generate the Bodhicitta. They will be liberated, and their wounds and scars will also disappear. Because of this, they will generate the Bodhicitta and abide in the state of non-regression. If this is not so, may I not attain supreme perfect enlightenment.

【English Translation】 English version: Destroying [afflictions] immediately attains liberation. Generate the Bodhi mind and dwell in non-retrogression. If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

All limitless sentient beings in the ten directions, suffering from hundreds of thousands of illnesses and karmic obstacles, with incomplete faculties. If they recite my name, holding it without forgetting, and contemplate with right mindfulness, their illnesses will be extinguished, and their faculties will be restored to completeness. If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

If there are Bhikshus (monks) in the mountains and forests, reciting the Prajna (wisdom) and all the Great Vehicle (Mahayana) sutras, cultivating Dhyana (meditation) and supernatural powers, but due to past karmic obstacles, they are unable to attain them. They should, during the day and night, each three times, recite the names of the Buddhas of the ten directions and hold my name. In this way, their wishes and various requests will be fulfilled. If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

If I attain Buddhahood, sentient beings in the six realms of the ten directions, upon hearing my name, will immediately generate the unsurpassed Bodhi mind and dwell in non-retrogression. If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

If I attain Buddhahood, immeasurable light will constantly illuminate everything. If all the four assemblies (Bhikshus, Bhikshunis, Upasakas, Upasikas) seek the Buddha path, upon hearing my name and practicing my vows, they will immediately attain the ten Bhumi (stages of a Bodhisattva) completely and enter the wisdom of the Tathagata (Buddha). If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

If I attain Buddhahood, all the Buddhas in the ten directions will jointly praise and proclaim my original vows and the merits of the Buddha. Sentient beings who hear this will immediately receive prediction of their future Buddhahood. If this vow is not fulfilled, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

When I attain Buddhahood in the future, I will expound the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Wisdom) for the masses. The ten directions will experience six kinds of shaking. A jeweled casket containing golden scriptures will emerge before me. I will expound the causes and conditions of my original vows for the masses, just like the assemblies of all the Buddhas, without any difference. If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

As for the vows I have made above, for the sake of seeking the Buddha path, I do not count the number of kalpas (eons) and diligently cultivate various skillful means, learning various subtle Dharma (teachings), generating great compassion for sentient beings, and constantly without weariness. My merits and wisdom are all completely fulfilled. The above-mentioned vows will surely be fulfilled and are not false. If this is not so, I shall not attain supreme enlightenment.

I vow to attain the reward of a great immortal in this life and obtain the six supernatural powers. With various transformations, in the ten directions and six realms, I will universally manifest physical bodies and teach the Dharma simultaneously. Sentient beings who hear this

【English Translation】 English version May I attain the state of non-retrogression and quickly achieve Bodhi (bodhi, enlightenment). If this is not so, may I not attain supreme and wonderful enlightenment.

After this vow, if anyone, for the sake of the words of this Golden Sutra, the lapis lazuli treasure box, and for expounding the Seven-Jeweled Canopy, golden and silver bell nets, the adorned seat, and all other offerings of the Prajñā Sutra, if an evil person comes wanting to steal these treasures, may this malicious person immediately suffer from heart pain and faint, or become mentally deranged, speaking nonsense, and confessing their crimes. If their hand touches these things, may their hand immediately shatter and break; if they look with evil eyes, may both eyes immediately become blind; if they slander with evil words, may their mouth become mute and lose its tongue. If they come with malicious intent, wanting to create disturbance and set up various obstacles, may both their legs break, or may they suffer from leprosy, or may they directly fall into Avīci Hell (Avīci, the hell of incessant suffering), emitting a great evil sound that resounds in all directions, so that all evil people may see these things, in order to let the Dharma long abide in the world, to protect the True Dharma, and to transform sentient beings, I make such a vow. I have no malice, nor do I have jealousy, the virtuous and holy beings of the ten directions will naturally know my mind. To further declare my vow, I speak the following verses:

May my body and mind attain, Prajñāpāramitā (Prajñāpāramitā, perfection of wisdom), Complete with immeasurable meanings, widely expounding for sentient beings. All possess the 'as-you-wish' spiritual powers, and their wisdom is equally complete. They can fly immediately after birth and possess all the Dhyanas (meditative states). They are equal to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, without the distinction of the Two Vehicles (Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas). In the ten directions of the world, in those impure and defiled lands, where evil beings filled with the Three Obstacles (klesha-avarana, karma-avarana, vipaka-avarana) have not even heard the names of the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), I will use the power of my great vows, with compassion, to equally transform them. Transforming the defiled lands into pure lands, and the beings also become equal. Devas and humans are without difference, able to fly and emit light. All women are transformed into men, cutting off the names of the Three Evil Paths (hell, hungry ghosts, animals). In the great hells of the ten directions, I will go to all of them. In the ten directions of the world, stubborn and evil beings, in the Three Evil Paths (hell, hungry ghosts, animals) and the Eight Difficulties (eight conditions where one has no opportunity to practice the Dharma), all hear my name. Using gentleness or harshness, I will certainly cause them to enter the Buddha's Path. Or first, I will follow their wishes, and later cause them to cut off afflictions. May I cure all diseases and eliminate hunger and thirst. May I always be able to walk and cultivate various samadhis. May I obtain a quiet place in the deep mountains. I cultivate this vow with the help of divine elixirs. I cultivate the inner elixir with the help of the outer elixir. If you want to pacify sentient beings, you must first pacify yourself. 應當常常憶念根本誓願,捨棄一切有為之事。名聲、利益供養乃至惡劣的弟子,內外一切都應當捨棄。專心尋求四如意足(chanda-riddhipada, viriya-riddhipada, citta-riddhipada, vimamsa-riddhipada),八種自在(身能飛行,變化等八種神通),五眼(肉眼、天眼、慧眼、法眼、佛眼)以及一切種智(sarva-akarajnata)。爲了成就佛陀的一切智慧,應當發起大精進。具備神通力量,才能教化眾生。應當憶念十方佛陀、如海般智慧的諸位大菩薩。 世間所有僧侶和在家信徒,慇勤地請求講經說法並供養,乃至強行勸請講經的人。這些僧侶和在家信徒都不是善知識,而是惡知識。為什麼呢?這些人都是惡魔所驅使。起初假裝慇勤,好像很有好心,之後就會爭鬥生起忿怒。善惡兩種魔都不是好事。從今以後不應該相信這些人。所有學士也都是這樣,都不可信任,如同怨家假裝親近。苦啊苦啊!不可思議,各個剎土的國王和剎帝利(kshatriya)也是如此。選擇啊選擇啊!

南嶽思大禪師(Nan Yue Si Da Chan Shi)所立誓願文

【English Translation】 English version: For the sake of protecting the true Dharma, I make this vow. May the Buddha have compassion and pity, and quickly enable me to achieve it. May all the Buddhas and World Honored Ones jointly witness, and Brahma, Indra, and the Four Heavenly Kings serve as proof. The sun, moon, constellations, and stars, the Vajra (diamond) strongmen and immortals, The Five Sacred Mountains, the Four Seas, and famous mountains, all the great Holy Kings also serve as proof. May you protect me with compassion, so that this vow may be quickly fulfilled.

One should constantly remember the fundamental vow and abandon all conditioned activities. Fame, profit, offerings, and even wicked disciples, both internal and external, should all be abandoned. Focus on seeking the Four Bases of Spiritual Power (chanda-riddhipada, viriya-riddhipada, citta-riddhipada, vimamsa-riddhipada), the Eightfold Mastery (the eight kinds of supernatural powers such as flying and transformation), the Five Eyes (physical eye, heavenly eye, wisdom eye, Dharma eye, Buddha eye), and the Omniscience (sarva-akarajnata). To achieve the Buddha's omniscience, one should generate great diligence. Possessing supernatural powers, one can transform sentient beings. One should remember the Buddhas of the ten directions and the great Bodhisattvas with wisdom like the sea. All the monks and laypeople in the world who earnestly request teachings and make offerings, even those who forcefully urge one to lecture on the sutras, these monks and laypeople are not good teachers but evil teachers. Why? These people are all driven by demons. At first, they pretend to be diligent and seem to have good intentions, but later they will fight and generate anger. Both good and evil demons are not good things. From now on, one should not trust these people. All scholars are the same and cannot be trusted, like enemies pretending to be relatives. Alas, alas! Inconceivable! The kings and Kshatriyas (kshatriya) in all Buddha-lands are also like this. Choose, choose, choose, choose!

The Vow of Great Master Si of Nan Yue (Nan Yue Si Da Chan Shi)
